⁴ They are all adulterers. They are burning like an oven that the baker stops stirring, from the kneading of the dough, until it is leavened.

⁷ "How can I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me, and they have sworn by those who are not gods. But I fed them to the full, and they committed adultery, and flocked to the house of a prostitute. ⁸ They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each one neighing after his neighbor's wife.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place for traveling men, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

¹² My people consult with their wooden idol, and answer to a stick of wood. Indeed the spirit of prostitution has led them astray, and they have been unfaithful to their God.

⁶ Because they are kindled like an oven, their heart burns within them; all night their anger smolders, in the morning it blazes like a flaming fire. ⁷ They are all hot as an oven, and devour their judges. All their kings have fallen; not one among them calls to Me.

⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.
