⁵ The pride of Israel testifies against him, and Israel and Ephraim stumble in their guilt, and Judah stumbles with them.

¹⁹ But even Judah did not obey the commands of the LORD their God. They were guided by the rules Israel made. ²⁰ And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of the plunderers, until He had cast them out from His presence.

⁵ The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

²¹ Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

¹⁶ for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

¹³ A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high.

⁹ The look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They do not hide it. Woe to their soul. For they have brought disaster upon themselves.

⁹ All the people will know it. Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria who say with pride and arrogance of heart: ¹⁰ "The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with cut stones. The fig trees have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars."

¹ Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine! ² See, the Lord has a strong and cruel one; like a rain of ice, a storm of destruction, like the overflowing of a strong river, he will violently overcome them. ³ The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trampled under foot;

⁹ All who make idols are nothing. The things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind. They are shamefully ignorant.

¹² For our trespasses are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities;

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you.

³¹ You have gone in the way of your sister; and I will give her cup into your hand. ³² So says the Sovereign LORD: You shall drink of your sister's cup deep and large; you shall be laughed to scorn and mocked; for it holds much. ³³ '"You will be filled with drunkenness and sorrow, the cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria. ³⁴ '"You will drink it and drain it. Then you will gnaw its fragments and tear your breasts. "I have spoken," declares the Sovereign LORD.' ³⁵ Therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because you have forgotten me and cast me behind your back, therefore you also bear your lewdness and your prostitutions.

⁵ You will stumble in the day, and the prophet will stumble with you in the night. I will destroy your mother.

¹⁴ For, I, will be as a lion unto Ephraim, and as a young lion to the house of Judah,—I, I, will tear in pieces, and depart, I will carry off, and none be able to rescue.

¹⁰ Israel's arrogance testifies against him; but they do not return to the LORD their God, nor seek him in all of this.

¹⁴ "Israel has neglected its maker in building palaces. Judah has multiplied its fortified cities, but I will send fire to their cities, and it will consume their fortresses."

¹ "Return, Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have fallen due to your own iniquity.

⁴ Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke the punishment, because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his rules, and their lies have led them astray, after which their ancestors walked! ⁵ "I will send fire upon Judah and it will devour the fortified buildings of Jerusalem."

² Fallen is Israel the virgin never to rise again! She is abandoned on her own land, with no one to raise her up.

³¹ So you testify against yourselves that you are the sons of those who murdered the prophets.

²² He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?
