¹ This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

¹⁸ Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High. ¹⁹ And he blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth. ²⁰ And blessed be God Most High who delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave to him a tenth of everything.

¹⁴ Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. Look, it is between Kadesh and Bered. ¹⁵ Hagar bore Abram a son. Abram gave the name Ishmael to the son she had borne. ¹⁶ Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.

² I cry out to God Most High, to God who accomplishes my requests for me.

² His abode is in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion.

³⁵ They remembered that God was their rock, that the Most High was their defender.

⁵⁶ But they tested and rebelled against God Most High and did not keep his statutes.

² "Who has stirred up one from the east, calling him in righteousness to his service? He hands nations over to him and subdues kings before him. He turns them to dust with his sword, to windblown chaff with his bow. ³ "He pursues them and moves on unscathed. He goes by a path his feet have not traveled before.

² It gives me great pleasure to tell about the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me.

¹⁸ O king, the Most High God gave your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, and majesty, and glory, and honor.

²¹ He was driven away from human society and given the mind of an animal. He lived with wild donkeys, ate grass like cattle, and his body was soaked with dew from the sky until he realized that the Most High God is sovereign over human kingdoms and places over them whomever he desires.

⁶ With what shall I come before the LORD and bow myself before the high God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?

⁷ And he shouted in a loud voice, “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me.”

¹⁷ This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.”

²⁰ where Jesus our forerunner has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.
