⁵ Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear and sincerity of heart, just as you would show to Christ. ⁶ And do this not only to please them while they are watching, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. ⁷ Serve willingly, as if you were serving the Lord and not merely people, ⁸ because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free.

¹ As many as are under the yoke of slavery should consider their own owners to be worthy of full respect, so that God’s name and doctrine not be slandered. ² Moreover, those who have believing masters should be respectful to them, because they are fellow believers. In fact, they must serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dear to them. These are the things you must teach and exhort.
