² Abram said, Sovereign LORD, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?

¹ the LORD said to Abram: "Leave your country, your people, and your father's household, and go to the land I will show you. ² "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

² And he said to the elder servant of his house, who was ruler over all he had: Put thy hand under my thigh,

¹⁰ And the servant took ten of his master's camels, and all sorts of good things of his master's, and went to Mesopotamia, to the town of Nahor.

²¹ Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife because she was childless. the LORD answered his prayer. His wife Rebekah became pregnant.

¹ When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister. She said to Jacob, "Give me children, or else I will die." ² But Jacob was angry with Rachel, and said, Am I in the place of God, who has kept your body from having fruit?

⁴ And Joseph found favour in his eyes, and attended on him; and he set him over his house, and all that he had he gave into his hand. ⁵ And it happened that from the time he appointed him over his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the house of the Egyptian on account of Joseph. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house and in the field. ⁶ He left all that he had in Joseph's hand. He did not concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Joseph was well-built and handsome.

⁹ No one is greater in this house than I am, and he has not kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

¹⁹ So they went up to Joseph's chief servant at the door of the house,

¹ And Joseph charged the steward of his house, saying, Fill the men's sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put the money of each in the mouth of his sack.

¹¹ She vowed a vow, and said, “the LORD of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

³ Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him.

¹² Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.

² A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame and share the inheritance among the brothers.

⁵ To them I will give in my house and within my walls a memorial and a name better than of sons and of daughters. I will give them an everlasting name, that will not be cut off.

⁵ He gave him no inheritance here, not even a foot of ground. But God promised to give possession of the land to Abraham and his descendants, even though he did not yet have a child.
