¹ And He cried in my ears with a loud voice, saying, Let the overseers of the city draw near, even each with his destroying weapon in his hand. ² Six men came from the direction of the upper gate that faces north. Each had his shattering weapon in his hand. Among them was a certain man clothed in linen with a writing case (secretary's inkhorn) at his side. They went in and stood beside the copper altar. ³ And the glory of the God of Israel went up from over the cherubim, upon which he had been, to the threshold of the house. And he called to the man clothed with linen, who had the writer's inkhorn by his side; ⁴ and said to him, Go through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that groan and that grieve for all the iniquities that are done in the midst of them. ⁵ I heard God say to the other men: "Follow him through the city and kill. Spare no one! Have mercy on no one. ⁶ Slay utterly old man and youth, and virgin, and infants, and women: but go ye not nigh any on whom is the mark: begin at my sanctuary. So they began with the elder men who were within in the house. ⁷ And He said to them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain. Go out! And they went out and killed in the city. ⁸ While they were killing, and I was left, I fell on my face, and cried, and said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Will you destroy all the residue of Israel in your pouring out of your wrath on Jerusalem?” ⁹ Then he said to me, "The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion: for they say, 'The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD doesn't see.' ¹⁰ And I also, Mine eye does not pity, nor do I spare; their way on their own head I have put.'" ¹¹ And look! The man clothed in linen and with a writing case at his side was bringing back a word, saying, "I have done all that you commanded me."

²³ "the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians. When he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to kill you.

²⁴ And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. And Jehu had appointed eighty men outside, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, his life shall be for the life of him.

¹⁵ And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, and as he was about to destroy it, the LORD saw and was grieved on account of the calamity. Then he said to the angel, the destroyer, "It is enough; slacken your hand." And the angel of the LORD was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

⁸ And I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? And I said, Here am I: send me.

⁶ "I send him against a godless nation. I commission him against the people of my fury to capture booty and to seize plunder, and to trample them down like mud (clay) in the streets. ⁷ But this is not what is in his mind, and this is not his design; but his purpose is destruction, and the cutting off of more and more nations.

⁶ So I stopped. And lo! a voice from the house, of one speaking to me, and the man stood near me. ⁷ He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell among the children of Israel forever. The house of Israel will no more defile my holy name, neither they, nor their kings, by their prostitution, and by the dead bodies of their kings in their high places;

⁷ "The Sovereign LORD will do nothing without revealing his secrets to his servants the prophets. ⁸ The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Sovereign LORD has spoken; who will not prophesy?

¹⁰ On the Lord’s day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, ¹¹ saying, “Write in a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

⁷ He said with a loud voice, "Fear God, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters."

¹ And make an altar of hard wood, a square altar, five cubits long, five cubits wide and three cubits high. ² "Place a horn at each of its four corners. The four horns and the altar must be made out of one piece of wood covered with copper. ³ "Make all the utensils for it out of copper: pots for taking away the altar’s ashes, also shovels, bowls, forks, and incense burners. ⁴ "Make a grate for it out of copper mesh. Make a copper ring for each of the four corners of the grate. ⁵ "Place the grate under the ledge of the altar so that it comes halfway up the altar. ⁶ "Prepare poles out of acacia wood for the altar. Cover them with copper. ⁷ The poles for it shall be put through the rings, so the poles will be on the two sides of the altar when it's carried.

²⁹ He set the altar of burnt offering at the door of the tabernacle of the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, as the LORD commanded Moses.

⁴ He shall put on the holy linen tunic. He shall have the linen trousers on his body, and shall put on the linen sash, and he shall be clothed with the linen turban. They are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.

³⁵ Only, the high places were not removed. The people still sacrificed and burned incense in the high places. He built the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD.

¹ Then he made a brass altar, twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide and ten cubits high.

³ Jotham built the Upper Gate of the LORD’s Temple and did extensive building of the wall at the Ophel.

¹⁵ For, look, I am calling to all the clans of the kingdoms of the north," declares the LORD, "and they will come and set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its surrounding walls, and against all the cities of Judah.

¹⁵ Behold I am about to bring against you, house of Israel, saith the Lord, a nation from afar; a nation the sound of whose tongue thou wilt not understand. ¹⁶ "Their quiver is like an open grave. All of them are mighty men. ¹⁷ "They'll devour your harvest and your food. They'll devour your sons and your daughters. They'll devour your vines and your fig trees. With their swords they'll batter down your fortified cities in which you trust.

¹⁶ "The snorting of their horses is heard from Dan. At the neighing of their stallions, the whole earth quakes. They're coming to devour the land and all it contains, the city and all who live in it. ¹⁷ Look, I'll send snakes among you, vipers that cannot be charmed, and they'll bite you,"

⁹ I'm now sending for all the tribes from the north, declares the LORD, and for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. I'll bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I'll utterly destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting desolation.

¹⁰ When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the LORD; and they sat in the entry of the New Gate of the LORD's house.

² And He spoke to the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in among the wheels, under the cherub, and fill your hands with coals of fire from between the cherubs, and scatter them on the city. And he went in before me.

⁶ And then at his command to the man clothed in linen, saying, "Take fire from among the wheel area from among the cherubim," he went and stood beside the wheel. ⁷ The cherub stretched out his hand from between the cherubim to the fire that was between the cherubim, and took some of it, and put it into the hands of him who was clothed in linen, who took it and went out.

⁶ And out of the temple came the seven angels with the seven plagues, dressed in clean and bright linen and girded with golden sashes around their chests.

²³ I got up and went to the plain. the LORD’s glory was standing there like the glory I saw by the Chebar River. So I immediately bowed down.

⁴ And look! There was the glory of the God of Israel like the vision that I saw in the valley.

⁴ And the glory of the LORD lifted up from the cherub, over the threshold of the house. And the house was filled with the cloud. And the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the LORD.

²² Then the cherubim raised their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. ²³ The glory of the LORD went up from within the city and stood over the mountain that is east of the city.

² I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the sound of rushing water, and the earth was shining because of his glory. ³ This vision was like the one I saw when he came to destroy Jerusalem and like the one I saw by the Chebar River. I immediately bowed down. ⁴ And then the glory of the LORD came to the temple by the way of the gate facing east.

⁷ They're to take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat the lamb.

¹³ "The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you live. When I see the blood I will pass over you. No plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

¹³ “Go inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the LORD's wrath that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

¹⁹ because your heart was tender and you have humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its people (that they should become a waste and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before Me), I have heard you, says the LORD. ²⁰ 'Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.'”'” So they brought this message back to the king.

⁵³ Rage seizes me because of the wicked, those who forsake your law.

¹³⁶ Streams of waters flowed down my eyes when I kept not your law.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹⁷ If you don't listen, I'll cry secretly because of your pride. My eyes will cry bitterly, flowing tears, because the LORD's flock has been taken captive.

¹¹ Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Strike with your hand and stamp with your foot and say, Alas! Because of all the evil abominations of the house of Israel, they shall fall by the sword, by the famine and by the plague.

⁶ “Therefore sigh, you son of man. You shall sigh before their eyes with a broken heart and with bitterness.

¹⁶ Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other. The LORD listened and took note, and a scroll of remembrance was written in his presence about those who fear the LORD and honor His name.

²² placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge of what is to come.

²¹ I am afraid that when I come again, my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of their acts of impurity, sexual immorality, and debauchery.

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

¹⁹ Nevertheless, God's firm foundation stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

⁸ (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— ⁹ if all this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment.

² And I saw another angel ascending from the east, with the seal of the living God. And he called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: ³ “Do not harm the land or sea or trees until we have sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree, but only those who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

⁶ He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, to slander his name, and his dwelling place, and those who live in heaven. ⁷ It was allowed to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. It was also given authority over every tribe, people, languages, and nation.

¹ Then I looked, and there was the lamb, standing on Mount Zion! With him were 144,000 people who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.

⁴ Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was given. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony to Jesus and because of the word of God, and who had not worshipped the beast or his image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

²⁷ He said to them, "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and each of you kill his brother and friend and neighbor.'"

⁷ Phinehas, son of Eleazar and grandson of the priest Aaron, saw this. He left the assembly and grabbed a spear in his hand. ⁸ and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. So the plague of the sons of Israel was stayed.

³⁹ See, now, that I, even I am he, and there is not a god besides me; I put to death and I give life; I wound and I heal; there is not one who delivers from my hand! ⁴⁰ For I lift up My hand to heaven and say, as surely as I live forever, ⁴¹ if I sharpen my glittering sword, my hand grasps it in judgment; I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will repay those who hate me. ⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, of the blood of the slain and of the captivity, of the bare head of the enemies.

¹⁵ Now one day before Saul's arrival, the LORD had revealed to Samuel:

⁴⁰ Then Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal; don't let any man of them escape!" So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the wadi of Kishon and killed them there.

⁹ the LORD Almighty swore in my ears, Truly many houses shall be deserted, big and fair, without inhabitant.

¹⁴ the LORD Almighty has disclosed himself in my ears: "Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you until you die," says the LORD Almighty.

¹¹ '"As I live, declares the Sovereign LORD,' 'because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominations I will withdraw, and my eye will have no pity and I will not spare you.

⁴ '"I will not look on you with pity or spare you. I will repay you for your conduct and the detestable practices among you. THEN YOU WILL KNOW THAT I AM the LORD.'

⁹ '"I will not look on you with pity or spare you (my eye will not feel sorry for you). I will repay you in accordance with your conduct and the detestable practices among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow.

¹⁸ Therefore will I also deal with them in anger; My eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them.

¹⁰ And I also, Mine eye does not pity, nor do I spare; their way on their own head I have put.'"

¹⁴ I the LORD have spoken. It shall come, and I will do it. I will not let go, nor will I spare, nor will I repent. According to your ways, and according to your doings, they shall judge you, says the Sovereign LORD.

¹⁵ and said unto them, "Have ye saved the women alive? ¹⁶ Lo, these, through the counsel of Balaam, caused the children of Israel to commit sin against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague on the assembly of the LORD. ¹⁷ "So kill all the Midianite boys and every Midianite woman who has gone to bed with a man.

³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any:

⁶ And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children:

¹⁸ When we come to the land, you must tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you must gather your father and mother, and your brothers, and your whole family to your house. ¹⁹ Then if anyone goes out of your house into the street, his blood will be on his head, we will not be responsible; but if any damage comes to anyone in the house, his blood will be on our heads.

¹⁷ The city and all that is in it will be devoted to the LORD; only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in the house will live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent. ¹⁸ Now as for you, everything that has been turned over for destruction. Don't covet or take any of these things. Otherwise, you'll make the camp of Israel itself an object worthy of destruction, and bring trouble on it. ¹⁹ But all of the silver and gold, and the items of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD, and they must go to the LORD's treasury." ²⁰ So the army shouted and the trumpets were blown again. As soon as the army heard the sound of the trumpets, they shouted loudly and the wall collapsed. The army charged straight ahead into the city and captured it. ²¹ They turned over everyone in the city for destruction and executed them, including both men and women, young and old, and oxen, sheep, and donkeys. ²² Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute's house, and bring the woman and all that she has out from there, as you swore to her.” ²³ And the young men, the spies, went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brothers, and all whom she had; yea, they brought all her family, and set them outside the camp of Israel. ²⁴ Then, after burning up the town and everything in it, they put the silver and gold and the vessels of brass and iron into the store-house of the Lord's house. ²⁵ But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her family and all who were with her, and she has lived in the midst of Israel until this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

³ Now, go and attack Amalek. Completely destroy all that they have. Don't spare them, but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, both ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

¹⁷ And he brought up [against] them the king of the Chaldees, and slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and spared not young man nor maiden, old man nor him of hoary head: he gave [them] all into his hand.

²⁹ "'I am going to bring disaster on the city that is named after me. Do you think you will go unpunished? You will not go unpunished! I am declaring war on all those who live on earth,' declares the LORD Almighty.

⁵ God said to me: "Son of man, look toward the north." So I looked toward the north. There in the entrance to the north gate beside the altar, I saw the idol that provokes jealousy and stirs up God's anger. ⁶ And he said to me, "Son of man, "Do you see what they are doing—great detestable things that the house of Israel is committing here so as to drive me from my sanctuary, and yet you will see again greater detestable things." ⁷ Then he took me to the entrance of the courtyard. As I looked, I saw a hole in the wall. ⁸ He said to me: "Son of man, dig through the wall. So I dug through the wall, and I saw a door." ⁹ And he said unto me, Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing here. ¹⁰ So I went in and looked, and saw every form of creeping things, abominable animals, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed around on the wall. ¹¹ Standing in front of them were seventy elders of the house of Israel. Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan stood among them. Each man had his censer in his hand and the fragrance of the cloud of incense was rising. ¹² Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'. ¹³ Then he said to me, You will see even more disgusting things which they do. ¹⁴ Then he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the LORD's house toward the north; and I saw women sitting there weeping for Tammuz (the god). ¹⁵ He said to me: "Do you see this, son of man? Yet you will see still greater abominations than these." ¹⁶ And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD’s house, and, behold, at the entrance of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the LORD and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

¹ And the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the eastern gate of the house of the LORD, the gate which faces eastward. And, behold, at the opening of the gate were twenty five men. And I saw among them Jaazaniah the son of Azzur, and Pelatiah, the son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.

² "You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins."

⁴⁷ That servant who knows his master’s will but does not get ready or follow his instructions will be beaten with many blows.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

³ “Do not harm the land or sea or trees until we have sealed the foreheads of the servants of our God.”

⁴ These are the ones who have not defiled themselves with women; for they are chaste. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were redeemed from among men, as first-fruits to God and to the Lamb.

¹ A psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have entered your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have reduced Jerusalem to ruins. ² They have given the bodies of your servants as food to the birds of the air, and the flesh of your saints to the beasts of the earth. ³ They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy. He has stood with his right hand as an adversary, and has slain all who were pleasant to the eye. He has poured out his wrath like fire in the tent of the daughter of Zion. ⁵ The Lord has become as an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel. He has swallowed up all her palaces. He has destroyed his strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation in the daughter of Judah. ⁶ He has broken down his dwelling place like the garden; he has ruined his appointed feasts; the LORD has made them forget in Zion festival and Sabbath, and he has despised in his anger king and priest. ⁷ The LORD has rejected his altar, he has disowned his sanctuary, and has given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces. They have made a shout in the house of the LORD, as in the day of a solemn assembly.

²⁰ '"Once they were proud of their beautiful jewels, but they used them to make disgusting idols. That is why the LORD has made their wealth repulsive to them. ²¹ '"I will hand it all over as plunder to foreigners and as loot to the wicked of the earth, and they will defile it. ²² '"I will turn my face away from them. They will desecrate my treasured place. Robbers will enter it and desecrate it.

¹ Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices.

²³ And Abraham drew near to Yahweh and said, "Will you also sweep away the righteous with the wicked?

⁵ Then Moses and Aaron went down on their faces before the meeting of the people.

⁴ When Moses heard this, he fell on his face.

²¹ "Separate yourselves from this congregation, that I may consume them at once." ²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, God of the spirits of all flesh; shall one man sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation?

⁴⁵ Get away from this congregation so that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.

¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights, -- I ate no bread and drank no water, -- because of all your sin which ye had sinned, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

⁶ And Joshua tore his clothing, and fell on his face to the earth before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel. And they threw dust on their heads.

¹⁶ David looked up and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and heaven, with a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

⁵ At the time of the evening sacrifice, I arose from my discouragement. Still in my torn garment and robe, I fell to my knees with my hands outstretched to the LORD my God,

¹⁰ Then I said, Ah, Sovereign LORD! Surely You have greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, You shall have peace; but the sword reaches to the soul.

¹³ I said: "Alas, O Sovereign LORD, prophets are telling them: 'You will not see wars or famines, for I will give you lasting peace in this place."

¹⁹ Have you completely rejected Judah? Do you despise Zion? Why have you struck us, so that there is no healing for us? We hoped for peace, but no good came, for a time of healing, but there was only terror.

¹⁴ Then I said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Behold, my soul has not been polluted; for from my youth up even until now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself, or is torn of animals. No abominable meat has come into my mouth!”

¹³ When I prophesied, Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down on my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, “Ah Sovereign LORD! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?”

² When they finished eating the grass of the land, then I said, “Sovereign LORD, forgive, I beg you! How could Jacob stand? For he is small.” ³ So the Lord relented from this. "This will not happen," said the LORD. ⁴ Thus the Sovereign LORD showed me and behold, the Sovereign LORD called for judgment by fire; and it dried up the great deep, and would have devoured the land. ⁵ Then I said, Sovereign LORD, I beg You, stop. How can Jacob stand? For he is small. ⁶ So the LORD relented from this. "This will not happen, either," said the Lord GOD.

²⁹ For I know that after my death you will become utterly corrupt, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you. And evil will happen to you in the latter end of the days, because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him to anger through the work of your hands.

⁵ They have dealt corruptly with him. [They are] not his sons, [it is] their blemish, a perverse and crooked generation.

¹⁵ But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, thick and sated. And he abandoned God who made him, and fell away from the Rock of his salvation. ¹⁶ They provoked him to jealousy over foreigners and to anger over detestable things. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to demons, not God, to gods that they did not know, to new gods that came up of late, which your fathers did not dread. ¹⁸ "You ignored the rock that fathered you and forgot the God who gave you life. ¹⁹ The LORD saw it and became jealous, provoked by his sons and daughters. ²⁰ He said, “I will hide my face from them. I will see what their end will be; for they are a very perverse generation, children in whom is no faithfulness. ²¹ They made me jealous with not God; They irritated me with their vanities: And I will make them jealous with not a people; With a foolish nation will I irritate them. ²² For a fire has been kindled in My anger, and it burns to the lowest Sheol, and consumes the earth and its produce; and sets on fire the foundations of the mountains.

⁷ Now this happened because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God when he brought them up from the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt and they feared other gods. ⁸ They walked in the statutes of the nations whom the LORD had driven out from before the Israelites, which the kings of Israel had introduced. ⁹ The Israelites secretly did things which were not right, against the LORD their God; they built high places for themselves in all their towns, from the watchtower up to the fortified city. ¹⁰ and they set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill, and under every green tree; ¹¹ and there they burned incense in all the high places, as the nations whom the LORD carried away before them did; and they did wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger; ¹² They served idols which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this thing!" ¹³ Nevertheless, the LORD had warned both Israel and Judah by means of every prophet and seer: "Turn away from your evil practices and keep my commandments and statutes according to the entire law that I gave your ancestors and that I sent to you through my servants, the prophets." ¹⁴ And they did not give ear, but became stiff-necked, like their fathers who had no faith in the Lord their God. ¹⁵ They rejected the LORD's statutes, the covenant that he had made with their ancestors, and his warnings that he gave them. They pursued meaninglessness {— } and became meaningless themselves {— } as they followed the lifestyles of the nations that surrounded them, a practice that the LORD had warned them not to do. ¹⁶ They abandoned all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two molten calf-shaped idols; they made a pole of Asherah worship and bowed down to the army of the heavens and served Baal. ¹⁷ They made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, they practiced divination and read omens, and they sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD to provoke him. ¹⁸ the LORD was very angry with Israel. He removed them from his sight. Only the tribe of Judah kept its place. ¹⁹ But even Judah did not obey the commands of the LORD their God. They were guided by the rules Israel made. ²⁰ And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of the plunderers, until He had cast them out from His presence. ²¹ for he rent Israel away from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat, king,—and Jeroboam thrust away Israel from following the LORD, and caused them to commit a great sin. ²² The Israelites practiced all the sins that Jeroboam had practiced, and never wavered from them ²³ until the Lord removed them from his presence, as he spoke by the ministry of all his servants the prophets. Now when Israel was removed from their own land to Assyria, where they continue to this day;

¹⁶ Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he filled Jerusalem from one end to another, apart from his sin which he caused Judah to sin by doing evil in the eyes of the LORD.

⁴ and also the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was not willing to forgive.

¹⁴ All the leaders of the priests and the people likewise increased in unfaithfulness according to all the detestable things of the nations. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had consecrated in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹³ Yet you say, What does El know? Can He judge through murkiness?

¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees."

⁷ They say, "The LORD cannot see, and the God of Jacob will not notice."

⁴ Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that deal corruptly; they have forsaken the LORD, they have contemned the Holy One of Israel, they are turned away backward.

¹⁵ Woe to those who go deep to hide their purpose from the LORD! And their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? And who knows us?

² But your iniquities have separated you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. ³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity. Your lips have spoken lies. Your tongue mutters wickedness. ⁴ No one calls for justice and no one pleads his case truthfully. People trust pointless arguments and speak lies. They conceive trouble and give birth to evil. ⁵ They hatch viper eggs and weave spider webs. Those who eat their eggs will die. When an egg is crushed, a poisonous snake is hatched. ⁶ Their webs cannot become clothing, and they cannot cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands. ⁷ Their feet run to do evil. They hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil. Ruin and destruction are on their highways. ⁸ The way of peace they know not; and there is no justice in their paths: they have made themselves crooked paths: whosoever goes in them shall not know peace.

¹² For our trespasses are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us. For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities; ¹³ transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and murmuring words of falsehood from the heart. ¹⁴ And justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. ¹⁵ Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

³⁴ On your skirts is found the lifeblood of the innocent poor, even though you didn't catch them breaking in. Yet despite all these things,

¹ "Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, and look please, and take note, and search at its public squares, if you can find a person who does justice, who seeks honesty, so that I may forgive it. ² Although they say, 'As surely as the LORD lives,' still they are swearing falsely." ³ O LORD, are not Your eyes for the truth? You struck them, but they felt no pain. You consumed them, yet they refused to take correction. They made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return. ⁴ Then I said, "These are only the poor, they're foolish, for they don't know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God. ⁵ Let me go to the leaders and speak to them. For they know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God." "But they, all together, have broken the yoke and torn off the restraints. ⁶ Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the desert will devastate them. A leopard is watching their towns, and everyone who goes out of them will be torn to pieces. For their transgressions are many, and their apostasies numerous. ⁷ "How can I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me, and they have sworn by those who are not gods. But I fed them to the full, and they committed adultery, and flocked to the house of a prostitute. ⁸ They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each one neighing after his neighbor's wife. ⁹ Shouldn't I punish them for these things?” says the LORD. “Shouldn't my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁸ "Look, you're trusting in deceptive words that cannot benefit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not, Except on your dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence."

¹³ But it hath happened because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous. ¹⁴ they reeled blind in the streets. They are defiled with blood, so that not any are able to touch their garments.

²³ '"Prepare chains for the land is full of bloodshed and the city full of violence.

¹² Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'.

¹⁷ And he said to me, "Have you seen, son of man? Was it too small a thing for the house of Judah to do the detestable things that they did here? For they filled up the land with violence, and they provoked me to anger again, and look! They are putting the branch to their nose.

² You, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the city of blood? So now cause her to know all her abominations. ³ You shall say, 'The Sovereign LORD says: “A city that sheds blood within herself, that her time may come, and that makes idols against herself to defile her! ⁴ You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled in your idols which you have made! You have caused your days to draw near, and have come even to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries. ⁵ Those who are near, and those who are far from you, will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult. ⁶ Behold, the princes of Israel, each one in you used his power to shed blood. ⁷ In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow. ⁸ You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths. ⁹ In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. ¹⁰ In you they have let the shame of their fathers be seen; in you they have done wrong to a woman at the time when she was unclean. ¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has violated his sister, his father's daughter. ¹² They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets within it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They take treasure and precious things. They have made many widows within it. ²⁶ her priests do violence to my law, and profane my holy things: they put no difference between the holy and profane, neither do they make known [the difference] between the unclean and the clean, and they hide their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain. ²⁸ '"Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them. They see false visions and divine lies for them. They say: "This is what the Sovereign LORD says, when the LORD has not spoken." ²⁹ The people in the land useth wicked extortion and robbery. They vex the poor and needy and oppress the stranger against right. ³⁰ '"I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. ³¹ I will pour out my wrath upon them; I consumed them in the fire of mine anger: I gave their way upon their head, says the Sovereign LORD.

¹ I said, "Please listen, you heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: Isn't it for you to know justice? ² you who despise good and love evil, who tear off the skin of my people, along with the flesh from their bones. ³ Who eat the flesh of my people? They strip their skin and they break their bones; and spread them as for the caldron and as flesh within the caldron.

⁹ Hear this, O rulers of the house of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel, those detesting justice and perverting all that is right, ¹⁰ he who builds Zion with blood and Jerusalem with wickedness. ¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will come on us.” ¹² Therefore, because of you, Zion will be plowed up like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the temple Mount like a forest high place."

³ Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together. ⁴ The best of them is like a brier. The most upright is worse than a thorn hedge. The day of your watchmen, even your visitation, has come; now is the time of their confusion.

¹ Woe to the oppressive city for she is rebellious and polluted (defiled)! ² She obeyed not the voice. She received not correction. She trusted not in the LORD. She did not draw near to her God. ³ Her officials in her midst are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing until the morning. ⁴ Her prophets are vain-glorious, treacherous persons; her priests profane the sanctuary, they do violence to the law.

³⁵ And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ I tell you truly all this will come on this generation. ³⁷ "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁵⁰ As a result, this generation will be charged with the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the foundation of the world,

⁴¹ if I sharpen my glittering sword, my hand grasps it in judgment; I will take vengeance on my adversaries, and will repay those who hate me.

²³ then hear from Heaven, and do, and judge Your servants by repaying the wicked, by bringing his way back on his own head, and by justifying the righteous, by giving to him according to his righteousness.

⁶ "See, it stands written before me. I will not keep silent but will pay back in full; I will pay it back into their laps

⁸ '"I am about to pour out my wrath on you and spend my anger against you. I will judge you according to your conduct and repay you for all your detestable practices. ⁹ '"I will not look on you with pity or spare you (my eye will not feel sorry for you). I will repay you in accordance with your conduct and the detestable practices among you. Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow.

⁵ I heard God say to the other men: "Follow him through the city and kill. Spare no one! Have mercy on no one.

²¹ But as for those whose heart walks after their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their way on their own heads, says the Sovereign LORD.

³¹ "You will feel my anger when I turn it loose on you like a blazing fire. And I will hand you over to brutal men, experts at destruction. ³² You will be for fuel to the fire. Your blood will be in the middle of the land. You will be remembered no more; for I, the LORD, have spoken it.”'”

³¹ I will pour out my wrath upon them; I consumed them in the fire of mine anger: I gave their way upon their head, says the Sovereign LORD.

⁷ The days of visitation are come, the days of recompense are come, Israel shall know it. The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is mad! For the multitude of thine iniquity, the enmity is great.

⁴ "Yes, and what are you to me, Tyre, and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Will you repay me? And if you repay me, I will swiftly and speedily return your repayment on your own head.

³⁰ For we know him who said, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people."

²⁰ Bless the LORD, you his angels, you mighty heroes who do his word by obeying the sound of his word.

¹⁰ "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.' ¹¹ I summon a bird of prey from the east. I summon a man to fulfill my purpose from a far off land. What I have said I will bring about. What I have determined (purposed) I will do.

¹⁰ The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, They are the ones the LORD has sent to go back and forth through the earth. ¹¹ Then they reported to the angel of the LORD who stood among the myrtle trees, "We have wandered throughout the earth and look! the entire earth is at rest. Everything is quiet and peaceful."

⁷ When the strong horses went out, they were anxious to go to patrol the earth. And he said, "Go, patrol the earth." And they patrolled the earth. ⁸ Then he called to me, "Look! The horses that went north have caused my spirit to rest in the north country."

² So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and foul and loathsome sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshipped his image.

¹⁷ The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!"
