Ezekiel 33 Cross References - VIN

1 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 Son of man, speak to the sons of thy people, and say to them, When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman, 3 if he see the sword coming upon the land, and blow the trumpet, and warn the people; 4 and he who heareth the trumpet doth not take warning; and the sword cometh and cutteth him off; his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and didn't take warning; his blood shall be on him; whereas if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul. 6 "'But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and does not blow his horn to warn the people and the enemy comes and kills someone, that watchman must die because of his sin. I will hold him responsible for their deaths.' 7 "So you, son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israel; therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 8 When I say to the wicked man, O wicked man, you will surely die and you do not speak to warn the wicked man from his way, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at your hand. 9 "But if you warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life. 10 "You, son of man, tell the house of Israel: 'Thus you speak, saying, "Our transgressions and our sins are on us, and we pine away in them; how then can we live?"' 11 Say to them: '"As I am alive!" Declares the Sovereign LORD. "I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Only that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back! Turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?"' 12 "So you, son of man, say to your people that the righteousness of the righteous shall not save him in the day of his transgression, and the wickedness of the wicked will not cause him to stumble on the day of his returning from his wickedness; and the righteous will not be able to live by it on the day when he returns to his sin. 13 When I tell the righteous that he will surely live; if he trusts in his righteousness, and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds will be remembered; but he will die in his iniquity that he has committed. 14 Again, when I say to the wicked man, You will surely die, if he turns from his sin and does what is lawful and right, 15 if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he will surely live. He will not die. 16 None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has done what is lawful and right; he will surely live. 17 "Yet your people say, 'The way of the Lord is not fair!' yet their way is not fair. 18 When the righteous man turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall even die in it. 19 And when the wicked man turns from his wickedness and does what is lawful and right, he will live by it. 20 Yet you say, The way of the Lord is not fair. O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways. 21 In the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, one who had escaped out of Jerusalem came to me, saying, “The city has been defeated!” 22 Now the hand of the the LORD had been upon me the evening before the fugitive came; and He had opened my mouth by the time the man came to me in the morning. So my mouth was opened, and I was no longer dumb. 23 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 24 "Son of man, the inhabitants of these ruins on the soil of Israel are saying, 'Abraham was one man, and he took possession of the land, and we are many; the land has been given for us as a possession.' 25 Therefore say to them, The Sovereign LORD says thus: You eat with the blood and lift up your eyes to your idols and shed blood. And will you possess the land? 26 You rely on your sword, you work abomination, and every one of you defiles his neighbour's wife. Shall you possess the land? 27 Thus you will say to them. The Sovereign LORD says thus: As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword and he who is in the open field I will give to the beasts to be devoured and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence. 28 And I will make the land a desolation and a wasteland, and the pride of its strength will come to an end, and the mountains of Israel will be desolate with no one traveling through them." ' 29 And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I have made the land desolate and a waste because of all their abominations which they have done. 30 "Son of man, your people are talking about you by the walls and in the doorways of their homes. They are saying to each other: 'Let's go and hear the word that has come from the LORD.' 31 And they come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words. But they will not do them. For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their unjust gain. 32 And, behold, you are to them as a singer of love songs with a beautiful voice, and playing well on an instrument. For they hear your words, but they are not doing them. 33 “When this comes to pass—behold, it comes—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

He came closer and closer. 26 The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper, and said, "Look, a man running alone." They pursued meaninglessness {— } and became meaningless themselves {— } as they followed the lifestyles of the nations that surrounded them, a practice that the LORD had warned them not to do. 16 They abandoned all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two molten calf-shaped idols; they made a pole of Asherah worship and bowed down to the army of the heavens and served Baal. 17 They made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, they practiced divination and read omens, and they sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD to provoke him. 18 the LORD was very angry with Israel. He removed them from his sight. Only the tribe of Judah kept its place.

You struck them, but they felt no pain. You consumed them, yet they refused to take correction. They made their faces harder than rock; they have refused to return. 4 Then I said, "These are only the poor, they're foolish, for they don't know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God. 5 Let me go to the leaders and speak to them. For they know the LORD's way, the requirement of their God." "But they, all together, have broken the yoke and torn off the restraints. 6 Therefore a lion from the forest will attack them, a wolf from the desert will devastate them. A leopard is watching their towns, and everyone who goes out of them will be torn to pieces. For their transgressions are many, and their apostasies numerous. 7 "How can I forgive you? There is no limit to their evil deeds. They don't argue the case of the orphan to secure justice. They don't defend the rights of the poor. 29 'Should I not punish them for this?,' asks the LORD, 'Should I not avenge myself on a nation like this?' 30 An astounding and horrible thing has happened in the land. 31 "The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. As I looked, I saw a hole in the wall. 8 He said to me: "Son of man, dig through the wall. So I dug through the wall, and I saw a door." 9 And he said unto me, Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing here. 10 So I went in and looked, and saw every form of creeping things, abominable animals, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed around on the wall. 11 Standing in front of them were seventy elders of the house of Israel. Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan stood among them. Each man had his censer in his hand and the fragrance of the cloud of incense was rising. 12 Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'. 13 Then he said to me, You will see even more disgusting things which they do. 14 Then he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the LORD's house toward the north; and I saw women sitting there weeping for Tammuz (the god). 15 He said to me: "Do you see this, son of man? Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries. 5 Those who are near, and those who are far from you, will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult. 6 Behold, the princes of Israel, each one in you used his power to shed blood. 7 In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow. 8 You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths. 9 In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. 10 In you they have let the shame of their fathers be seen; in you they have done wrong to a woman at the time when she was unclean. 11 And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has violated his sister, his father's daughter. 12 They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. 13 And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. 14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it. 15 And I will disperse thee in the nations, and will scatter thee among the countries, and I will put an end to thy uncleanness in thee.

25 There is a conspiracy of her prophets within it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They take treasure and precious things. They have made many widows within it. 26 her priests do violence to my law, and profane my holy things: they put no difference between the holy and profane, neither do they make known [the difference] between the unclean and the clean, and they hide their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27 Her rulers in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood and to destroy souls, to get unjust gain. 28 '"Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them. They see false visions and divine lies for them. They say: "This is what the Sovereign LORD says, when the LORD has not spoken." 29 The people in the land useth wicked extortion and robbery. They vex the poor and needy and oppress the stranger against right. 30 '"I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one. 31 I will pour out my wrath upon them; I consumed them in the fire of mine anger: I gave their way upon their head, says the Sovereign LORD.

I will pray to the LORD our God, just as you have asked. I will tell you what he says. Make known to them the detestable things of their ancestors. 5 And say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: In the day that I chose Israel, and lifted up My hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt; when I lifted up My hand to them, saying, I am the LORD your God; 6 in that day I swore to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands. 7 And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God. 8 But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. 9 But I worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them, in bringing them out of the land of Egypt. 10 Therefore I brought them out from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the desert. 11 and I gave them my statutes and declared unto them my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them. 12 '""I also gave them certain days to worship me as a sign between us so that they would know that I, the LORD, made them holy. 13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. 14 But I wrought for my name`s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 15 Yet even l lifted up my hand to them. in the desert,— That I would not b1ing them into the land which I had given to them flowing with milk and honey, The beauty, it was. of all lands: 16 because they rejected my ordinances, and did not walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols. 17 '""But I had compassion on them. I did not destroy them or completely wipe them out in the desert. 18 I said to their children in the wilderness, 'Don't walk in the statutes of your fathers. Don't observe their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols. 19 I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my rights, and do them; 20 Make my Sabbaths holy. They shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.' 21 '""But the children rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes. They were not careful to obey my ordinances. If a man obeys them, he will live. They profaned my Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. 22 But I withdrew my hand, and wrought for my name`s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 23 Again I lifted up my hand upon them in the wilderness, to disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries: 24 because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes, and had profaned my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. 25 Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good and by which they could not live. 26 Yea I let them defile themselves with their gifts, when they caused every firstborn to pass through the fire,-.that I might make them desolate. To the end they might know that, I, am the LORD. 27 Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me, in that they have committed a sin against Me. 28 For after I had brought them into the land that I promised to give them, when they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees: they made there offerings, and provoked me with their oblations, making sweet savours there, and poured out their drink offerings. 29 Then I said to them, What is the high place to which ye go? and its name is called Bamah to this day. 30 Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Sovereign LORD: Are you defiled in the same way as your fathers? And do you go whoring after their abominations? 31 When you offer your gifts, when you make your sons pass through the fire, do you pollute yourselves with all your idols to this day? Should I be inquired of by you, house of Israel? As I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I will not be inquired of by you! 32 And it shall not be as ye say, We will be as the nations, and as the tribes of the earth, to worship stocks and stones.

Matthew 6:24

24 No one can serve two masters: Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

Matthew 7:24-27

24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the floods rose, the winds blew and beat upon that house, and down it fell — with a mighty crash."

Matthew 13:22

22 The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Matthew 19:22

22 When the young man heard this, he went away in sorrow, because he had great wealth.

Luke 6:48-49

48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid his foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the torrent crashed against that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the man who merely hears them and does not practice them is like a man who built a house upon the ground without a foundation. The torrent burst upon it, and at once it collapsed, and the wreck of that house was complete."

15 And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16 Then He told them a parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced an abundance. 17 And he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' 18 Then he said: ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my produce and my goods. 19 Then I will say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take it easy. Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ 20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul will be demanded of you. Then who will have all you have prepared?' 21 This is how it will be for anyone who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.”

James 1:22-24

22 Obey the message; do not merely listen to it, and deceive yourselves. 23 For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, 24 and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

James 2:14-16

14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone claims to have faith, but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? 15 Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you tells him, “Go in peace; stay warm and well fed,” but does not provide for his physical needs, what good is that?
