⁵ ‘If you will obey me and are faithful to the terms of my covenant, then out of all the nations you will be my own special possession, for all the earth is mine.

¹⁴ When Moses went down from the mountain to the people, he consecrated the people, and they washed their clothes. ¹⁵ And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near [your] wives.

⁵ He sent young Israelite men to offer up burnt offerings and sacrifice bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

¹ And the two sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, each took his censer and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them. ² And fire went out from before the LORD and consumed them; and they died before the LORD. ³ Therefore Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and in the presence of all the people I will display my glory.'" So Aaron was silent.

⁶ When they came to the threshing floor of Nakon, Uzza reached out to the ark of God and took hold of it, because the oxen had stumbled. ⁷ the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God's ark. ⁸ David was angry because the LORD had burst out against Uzza, and he called that place Perez-Uzza until this day.

⁹ When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the Ark, because the bulls stumbled. ¹⁰ the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah. He struck him down because he had put his hand on the Ark. So he died there before God. ¹¹ David was angry because the LORD's wrath had broken out against Uzzah. ¹³ For because you didn’t carry it at first, the LORD our God broke out in anger against us, because we didn’t seek him according to the ordinance.”

³ but they had been unable to celebrate it then because not enough priests had consecrated themselves and the people had not yet been gathered together in Jerusalem.

¹⁵ And they slaughtered the Passover lamb on the fourteenth day of the second month. And the priests and the Levites were disgraced, so they consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings into the house of the LORD.

¹¹ Get out of her my people! Touch no unclean thing! Come out from it and be pure, you who carry the vessels of the LORD.

⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened.

¹⁰ At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and found her dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

³⁰ That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. ³¹ For if we were judging ourselves, we would not come under judgment. ³² But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
