¹⁶ »I saw that you had indeed sinned against the LORD your God. You made yourselves an idol, cast in the shape of a calf. You turned aside quickly from the way the LORD had commanded you.

¹⁹ As Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, he became angry. He threw the tablets from his hands and shattered them at the base of the mountain.

⁴⁰ They said to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us! As for this Moses who led us out of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.’ ⁴¹ They even made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice to their idol, and held a celebration over what their own hands had made.
