¹² Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel; and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

³ Your nakedness will be uncovered. Yes, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance, and will spare no one.”

⁵ You have not gone up into the breaks, nor built the wall for the house of Israel, that it might stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.

³⁰ '"I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.

⁸ "Like a bear that has lost her cubs, I will attack you. I will rip you open. Like a lion I will devour you. Like a wild animal I will tear you apart.

¹⁴ So the swift runner will not escape, the valiant will not fortify his strength, and the mighty warrior will not save his life.

² The Sovereign LORD has sworn by His holiness that the days are coming that He will lift you up with meat hooks, and the last of you with fishhooks. ³ Each of you will go out through the breaches of the walls straight to Mt. Hermon," declares the LORD.

⁴ "For this is what the LORD says to the house of Israel: 'Seek me and live, ⁵ "Do not seek Bethel, nor enter into Gilgal. Do not pass to Beersheba. For Gilgal will surely go into captivity (exile), and Bethel will come to nothing. ⁶ Seek ye the LORD and live, lest he shall break through the house of Joseph as fire, and devour, and none quenching to the house of God. ⁷ Ah, you who turn justice into wormwood and hurl righteousness to the ground! ⁸ The one who made the Pleiades and Orion and who turns deep darkness into the morning and darkens day into night, the one who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out on the surface of the earth, the LORD is his name! ⁹ He raiseth destruction upon the mighty people, and bringeth down the stronghold. ¹⁰ You hate the one who reproves in the gate, and abhor him who speaks the truth (with integrity). ¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes of wheat from him- therefore you who have built houses of cut stone will not dwell in them. You who have planted pleasant vineyards shall not drink their wine. ¹² For I know how many are your offences, and how great are your sins-- you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the courts. ¹³ therefore the prudent person remains silent at such a time, for the time is evil. ¹⁴ Seek good and not evil that you may live, and so the Lord God Almighty will be with you. As you have said, ¹⁵ Hate evil and love good and establish justice in the gate; perhaps the LORD, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

¹ I saw the LORD standing beside the altar. He said: "Strike the capitals that the thresholds may shake! Break them in pieces on the head of all of them and I will slay the last of them with the sword. Not one of them will get away. Not one of them will escape! ² Though they dig into Sheol, from there my hand will take them and though they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down. ³ Though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out there; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and it will bite them. ⁴ Though they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword, and it will kill them. I will set my eyes on them for evil, and not for good.

²⁵ Reconcile quickly with your adversary, while you are still on the way to court. Otherwise he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.

⁴⁴ For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.

³² Now no one knows anything about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, not even the Son, but only the Father. ³³ Take heed, watch; for you do not know when the time will come. ³⁴ It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. ³⁵ Therefore keep watch, because you do not know when the master of the house will return—whether in the evening, at midnight, when the rooster crows, or in the morning. ³⁶ lest he come suddenly, and find you sleeping. ³⁷ What I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³¹ Or what king on his way to war with another king will not first sit down and consider whether he can engage with ten thousand men the one coming against him with twenty thousand? ³² And if he is unable, he will send a delegation while the other king is still far off, to ask for terms of peace.

³ “Truly I tell you,” He said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. ⁴ For they all contributed out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.” ⁵ As some of the disciples were remarking how the temple was adorned with beautiful stones and consecrated gifts, Jesus said, ⁶ “As for what you see here, the time will come when not one stone will be left on another; every one will be toppled.” ⁷ “Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” ⁸ And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them! ⁹ When you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be alarmed. These things must happen first, but the end is not imminent.” ¹⁰ Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ¹¹ There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, along with fearful sights and great signs from heaven. ¹² "But before all these things happen they will lay hands on you and persecute you. They will deliver you up to synagogues and to prison, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my sake. ¹³ It will result in [an opportunity for] witnessing to them. ¹⁴ So make up your mind not to worry beforehand how to defend yourselves. ¹⁵ For I will give you speech and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. ¹⁶ "You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. ¹⁷ »Men will hate you because of my name. ¹⁸ But not a hair of your head will perish. ¹⁹ By your endurance you will gain your lives. ²⁰ "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies you will know that desolation is near. ²¹ Then let those in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country stay out of the city. ²² For these are the days of vengeance, to fulfill all that has been written. ²³ How miserable those days will be for pregnant and nursing mothers. For there will be great distress upon the land and wrath against this people. ²⁴ They will fall by the edge of the sword, and will be led captive into all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ²⁵ “There will be signs in sun, moon, and stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, at the roaring and tossing of the sea; ²⁶ Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. ²⁷ At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. ²⁸ When these things begin to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” ²⁹ He told them a parable: "Look at the fig tree, and all the trees. ³⁰ When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. ³¹ So also when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. ³² I tell you assuredly, this generation will certainly not pass away until all has happened. ³³ Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. ³⁴ But watch yourselves, or your hearts will be weighed down by dissipation, drunkenness, and the worries of life—and that day will spring upon you suddenly like a snare. ³⁵ For it will come upon all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. ³⁶ But watch at all times, and pray that ye may be able to escape all the things that are about to come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

² for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. ⁴ But you, brethren, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.

¹ What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? ² You crave what you do not have. You kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures. ⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God. ⁵ Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy? ⁶ But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” ⁷ Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. ⁹ Grieve, mourn, and weep. Turn your laughter to mourning, and your joy to gloom. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will raise you up.

³ Remember therefore what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.
