¹⁵ So Jacob went down to Egypt, where he and our fathers died.

³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. ⁴ I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph's hand will close your eyes.” ⁵ Jacob left Beer-sheba. Israel's sons put their father Jacob, their children, and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to bring him back. ⁶ They took their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan. Jacob and all his family arrived in Egypt. ⁷ He brought his sons, his grandsons, his daughters, and his granddaughters, his entire family.

³³ When Jacob finished instructing his sons he drew his feet up to the bed. Then he took his last breath and was gathered to his people.

⁶ And Yoseph and all his brothers and all that generation die:

¹⁵ how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.

²² Your ancestors went down to Egypt with seventy people, but the LORD your God has now made you as numerous as the stars in the sky."

⁵ And you shall speak and say before the LORD your God, My father was a perishing Aramean! And he went down to Egypt with few men, and lived there, and became a nation there, great, mighty and many.

⁴ and to Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau. To Esau I gave the hill country of Seir to possess, but Jacob and his children went down to Egypt.

²¹ By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. ²² By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites and gave instructions about his bones.
