1 After all of these acts of faithfulness occurred, King Sennacherib of Assyria came, invaded Judah, and laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he intended to fight against Jerusalem,
3 He consulted with his princes and his mighty men to stop up the waters of the springs which were without the city: and they helped him.
4 A large crowd gathered as they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land. They said: Why should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water?
5 Hezekiah worked hard. He rebuilt all the broken sections of the wall. He built the towers taller and built another wall outside the city wall. He strengthened the Millo in the City of David, and made plenty of weapons and shields.
6 and appointed military officers over the people; and having assembled them before him in the street of the valley gate, he spoke affectionately to them, and said,
7 “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
8 with him, is an arm of flesh, but, with us, is the LORD our God, to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people leaned upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do you trust, that you remain in the siege in Jerusalem?
11 "Hezekiah your king is telling you that the LORD your God will save you from me. But he is lying! You will die of hunger and thirst."
12 Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it?
13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
14 Who from all the gods of these nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, which were able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God shall be able to deliver you from my hand?
15 And now, do not let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, nor believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand, from the hand of my fathers; also, surely your god shall not deliver you from my hand.
16 Sennacherib's officers said more against the LORD God and his servant Hezekiah.
17 And he had written letters to blaspheme the LORD, the God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah shall not deliver His people from my hand.
18 And they called with a great voice in Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to terrify them, that they might capture the city.
19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of man`s hand.
20 King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, prayed about this and called to heaven.
21 The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, some of his own offspring killed him there with the sword.
22 And the LORD saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
23 many brought gifts for the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezekias king of Juda. And he was thenceforth magnified in the eyes of all the nations.
24 Hezekiah became sick and was about to die. He prayed to the LORD, who answered him and gave him a miraculous sign.
25 But Hezekiah didn't render again according to the grace done to him. His heart was lifted up; therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.
26 And Hezekiah was humbled for the pride of his heart, he and the people of Jerusalem, and the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
27 Hezekiah became richer and was highly honored. He prepared storehouses for himself to hold silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuables.
28 And he made storehouses for the increase of grain and wine and oil, and stalls for all kinds of animals, and stalls for flocks.
29 He made towns for himself. He gathered much property in flocks and herds: for God had given him great wealth.
30 Hezekiah stopped up the upper outlet of the Gihon springs and diverted them down to the western side of the city of David. He prospered in everything he did.
31 When the leaders of Babylon sent ambassadors to ask him about the miraculous sign that had happened in the land, God left him. God did this to test him, to find out everything that was in Hezekiah's heart.
32 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
33 Hezekiah slept in death with his ancestors. He was buried in the upper tombs of David's descendants. When Hezekiah died, all of Judah and the people in Jerusalem honored him. His son Manasseh succeeded him as king.

3 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD as David his father had done.
4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.
5 Hezekiah had faith in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah who were before him.
6 He held on to the LORD; he did not depart from following him, and he kept his commands that the LORD had commanded Moses.
7 And the LORD was with him. He was blessed wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him.
8 He smote the Philistines unto Gazah and its borders, from the watchmen`s tower to the fortified city.
9 It was the fourth year of King Hezekiah, the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel. Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and laid siege to it.
10 And at the end of three years they took it. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel.
11 Then the king of Assyria deported Israel to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Habor, in the river regions of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
12 because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not listen to them, nor do them.
13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house.
16 And at that time Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of the Lord's house, and from the door-pillars plated by him, cut off and gave it to the king of Assyria.
17 The king of Assyria sent his commander-in-chief (Tartan), his quartermaster, and his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They stood at the channel for the Upper Pool on the road to the Laundryman's Field.
18 And they called to the king, and Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder went out to them.
19 Rabshakeh told them, "Tell Hezekiah right now, 'This is what the great king, the king of Assyria says: "Why are you so confident?

3 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
4 He said to them: "Tell Hezekiah, This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: ‘What makes you so confident?
5 You say, yea, a word of the lips, `Counsel and mastery for war.' Now, on whom do you trust, that you revolt against me?
6 Look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
7 And if thou say to me, We rely upon the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
8 »Now, make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses if you can put riders on them.
9 But how can you drive back one governor among the least of my master's servants, when you trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?
10 And now have I come up against this land to destroy it without the LORD? the LORD said to me, Go up to this land and destroy it.
11 And Eliakim and Shebna and Joah said to the chief of the cupbearers, Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. But do not speak to us in Jewish in the ears of the people on the wall.
12 And Rab-shakeh said, Is it to thy master and to thee that my master sent me to speak these words? Is it not to the men that sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you?
13 Then the field commander stood and shouted loudly in the Judean language: "Listen to the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 "'This is what the king says: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot rescue you.
15 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us. This city won't be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."'
16 "'Do not listen to Hezekiah, because this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me! Come out, and give yourselves up to me! Everyone will eat from his own grapevine and fig tree and drink from his own cistern.
17 until I come and take you to a land like your land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards,
18 lest Hezekiah mislead you, saying, 'the LORD will save us!' Did the gods of the nations each save his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
20 Who among all the gods of these lands who delivered their land from my hand, that the LORD will deliver Jerusalem from my hand?
21 But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."

1 Manasseh was a son of twelve years when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty five years.
2 And he did evil in the eyes of the LORD according to the detestable things of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites.
3 For again he rebuilt the high places that his father Hezekiah had broken down, and raised up altars for the Baals, and made Asherahs and bowed himself to all the host of the heavens, and served them.
4 He built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, "My name shall be in Jerusalem forever."
5 He built altars for all the army of the sky in the two courts of the LORD’s house.
6 He also made his children to pass through the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom; and he practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and consulted mediums, and spiritists: he worked much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
7 He set the engraved image of the idol, which he had made, in God's house, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever.
8 I will not any more remove the foot of Israel from off the land which I have appointed for your fathers, if only they will observe to do all that I have commanded them, even all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given by Moses.”
9 And Manasseh made Judah and the people of Jerusalem to err, to do worse than the nations whom the LORD had destroyed before the sons of Israel.
10 the LORD spoke to Manasseh and his people. But they would not pay attention.
11 So the LORD made the army commanders of the king of Assyria invade Judah. They took Manasseh captive, put a hook in his nose, put him in bronze shackles, and brought him to Babylon.
12 But, in his distress, he appeased the face of the LORD his God,—and humbled himself greatly, before the God of his fathers;
13 And prayed unto him: and he received his entreaty, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.
14 Then afterward he built an outer wall for the city of David west of the Gihon in the valley, and for the entrance into the Gate of the Fishes. And it encircled the Ophel and raised it very high. Then he placed strong commanders in all the fortified cities of Judah.
15 And he removed the foreign gods and the carved image from the house of the LORD and all the altars which he built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside the city.
16 And he reinstated the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed on it peace-offerings and thank-offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD the God of Israel.
17 Even so, the people continued to sacrifice in the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
18 Everything else about Manasseh, including his prayer to his God and the words that the seers spoke to him in the name of the LORD the God of Israel are in the records of the kings of Israel.
19 And his prayer, and how he responded to him, all his sin and his unfaithful acts, and the places where he built the high places and set up Asherahs and idols before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the words of the seers.
20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. And Amon his son reigned in his stead.
