⁸ The Israelites said to Samuel, "Don't stop crying out to the LORD our God for us that he may deliver us from the hand of the Philistines."

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to the LORD your God for your servants, and not we will die, for we have added this evil to all our sins to ask a king for ourselves. ²⁰ "Do not be afraid!" Samuel answered. "Even though you have done such an evil thing, do not turn away from the LORD. Serve him with all your heart. ²¹ Don't turn aside after useless things that cannot profit or deliver because they're useless. ²² For the LORD will not forsake his people for the sake of his great name, because the LORD has decided to make you his own people. ²³ Now as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. I'll also instruct you in the way that is good and right. ²⁴ Only, fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart. Indeed, consider what great things he has done for you.

⁴ "'Perhaps the LORD your God will hear the words of Rabshakeh. His master the king of Assyria has sent him to reproach the living God! He will rebuke the words the LORD your God has heard. Therefore, offer a prayer for the remnant that survives.'"

¹ For Zion's sake I will not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until her righteousness shines out like the dawn, and her salvation like a burning lamp.

⁶ I have set watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. They will never be silent day nor night. You who call on the LORD, take no rest, ⁷ and give him no rest, till he establishes, and till he makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
