⁶ And Saul enquired of the LORD, but the LORD did not answer him by dreams nor by Urim nor by prophets.

¹² He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And he saw the Lord by his side, saying, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your seed this land on which you are sleeping. ¹⁴ "Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ "Remember, I am with you. I will watch over you wherever you go. I will also bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I do what I have promised you."

² And God spoke to Israel in a vision of the night and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here I am. ³ Then he said, "I am the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. ⁴ I will go down with you into Egypt. I will also surely bring you up again. Joseph's hand will close your eyes.”

³⁰ You will put the Urim and the Thummim into the breastplate of judgment, and they will come to be on Aaron's heart when he enters before the LORD. Thus Aaron will bear the judgment of the sons of Israel on his heart before the LORD continually.

⁶ He said: "Listen to my words: 'When there are prophets of the LORD among you, I make myself known to them in visions or speak to them in dreams.

²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before LORD. At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even

³⁷ Saul inquired of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you give them into the hand of Israel?" But God did not answer him that day.

¹³ Saul died because of his unfaithfulness to the LORD. He did not obey the word of the LORD (YHWH). He asked a medium to request information from a dead person. ¹⁴ and didn’t inquire of the LORD. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

¹⁴ »God does speak, now one-way and then another, though man may not perceive it. ¹⁵ "In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men as they slumber in their beds, ¹⁶ he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings,

⁹ We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet. There is no one who knows how long.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:" ² These proverbs are for gaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; ³ To receive the discipline of wisdom, justice, and right, and equity; ⁴ for giving prudence to the naïve, knowledge and discretion to the young. ⁵ Let the wise listen and increase their learning; let the person of understanding receive guidance ⁶ to understand a proverb, and parables, the words and riddles of the wise. ⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. ⁸ My son, listen to your father's instruction, and do not forsake your mother's teaching: ⁹ for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck. ¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not comply with them;" ¹¹ If they say: 'Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us lurk for the innocent without cause; ¹² Let's swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down into the pit. ¹³ We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with plunder. ¹⁴ Throw in your lot with us. We'll all have one purse." ¹⁵ My son, do not go along with them, and keep your feet away from their paths! ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood. ¹⁷ Look, it is useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds, ¹⁸ but these people lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush only themselves. ¹⁹ Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it. ²⁰ Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares. ²¹ At the corner of noisy streets she calleth, at the entrances of gates; in the city she sayeth her speeches: ²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you. ²⁴ Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand; ²⁵ because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction, ²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; ²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD, ³⁰ Consented not to my counsel, disdained all my rebuke, ³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with the fruit of their own schemes. ³² for the waywardness of the simple ones will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. ³³ But whoever listens to me will dwell securely, and will be at ease, without fear of harm."

¹ Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth. ² May another praise you and not your own mouth, a stranger and not your own lips. ³ A stone is heavy, and sand a burden, but a fool's anger is heavier than both. ⁴ Fury is cruel, and anger overwhelming, Yet who can stand before jealousy? ⁵ Better is open rebuke than hidden love. ⁶ The wounds of a friend mean well, but the kisses of an enemy are profane. ⁷ One who is full tramples a honeycomb, but to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. ⁸ Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is a man who strays from his place. ⁹ Perfume and incense will gladden a heart, and the pleasantness of one's friend is ⌊personal advice⌋. ¹⁰ Do not forsake your own friend and your father's friend. And do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far off. ¹¹ Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, then I can answer my tormentor. ¹² A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it. ¹³ Take the coat of anyone who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if he cosigns for an immoral woman. ¹⁴ A friend's loud blessing early in the morning will be thought of as a curse. ¹⁵ A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike: ¹⁶ restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand. ¹⁷ As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. ¹⁸ He who tends a fig tree will eat its fruit, and he who guards his master will be honored. ¹⁹ As water reflects a face, so a man's heart reflects the man. ²⁰ Sheol and Abaddon are never satiated, and neither are human eyes. ²¹ The crucible is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but man is tested by his praise. ²² Though thou pound a fool in a mortar, amidst grain, with a pestle, his folly, will not depart from him. ²³ Keep well informed of the condition of your flocks and pay attention to your herds, ²⁴ Riches are not forever: and a crown does not endure for every generation. ²⁵ The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in. ²⁶ The lambs will be for thy clothing, and the goats the price for a field. ²⁷ There will be plenty of goats' milk for your food, for your family's food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.

¹ The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion. ² There are many princes after the transgression of a land. But a man of understanding and knowledge remains for a long time. ³ A needy man who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain which leaves no crops. ⁴ Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law strive with them. ⁵ Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully. ⁶ Better is the poor man who walks in uprightness, than the rich man who is perverse in his ways. ⁷ Whoever keeps the law is a wise son, but a companion of gluttons shames his father. ⁸ He who increases his wealth by excessive interest gathers it for one who has pity on the poor. ⁹ Whoever turns away from listening to the Law even his prayer is detestable. ¹⁰ Whoever misleads the upright along an evil way will himself fall into his own pit, but the blameless will inherit what is good. ¹¹ The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but the poor who has understanding sees through him. ¹² When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves. ¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. ¹⁴ Blessed is the man who always fears; but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble. ¹⁵ As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people. ¹⁶ A tyrannical ruler lacks judgment. One who hates ill-gotten gain will have long days. ¹⁷ A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him. ¹⁸ Whoever walks blamelessly is kept safe; but one with perverse ways will fall suddenly. ¹⁹ One who works his land will have an abundance of food; but one who chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty. ²⁰ A faithful man is rich with blessings; but one who is eager to be rich will not go unpunished. ²¹ To show partiality is not good; yet a man will do wrong for a piece of bread. ²² A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him. ²³ He who rebukes a man will afterward find more favor than he who flatters with the tongue. ²⁴ Whoever robs his father or his mother, and says, "It's not wrong." He is a partner with a destroyer. ²⁵ An arrogant man stirs up dissension, but anyone who trusts in the LORD prospers. ²⁶ One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe. ²⁷ He who gives to the poor will not lack. But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. ²⁸ When the wicked rise to power, people hide themselves, but when the wicked perish, the righteous increase.

²⁸ Let the prophet who has a dream relate the dream, but let whoever receives my word speak my word truthfully. What does straw have in common with wheat?" declares the LORD.

⁹ Her gates are sunk into the ground; he has destroyed and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the nations: the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the LORD.

¹ In the seventh year, in the fifth month, the tenth day of the month, some of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me. ² Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ³ Son of man, speak to the old men of Israel, and say to them, Thus said the Sovereign LORD: Come ye to seek me? I live, if I will be sought for you, says the Sovereign LORD.

²⁰ But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but He does listen to the one who worships Him and does His will.

³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures.
