⁵ The LORD appeared to Solomon one night in a dream and told him, "Ask me for whatever you want and I'll give it to you."

¹² He dreamed and saw a stairway set upon the earth, and its top reached to heaven. Behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. ¹³ And he saw the Lord by his side, saying, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your seed this land on which you are sleeping.

⁹ The LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

⁷ That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.” ⁸ Solomon said to God, "You have shown great loving kindness to David my father, and have made me king in his place. ⁹ Now, LORD God, your promise to my father David is fulfilled, because you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth. ¹⁰ Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of yours?” ¹¹ Then God said to Solomon, "Because this was with your heart and you did not ask for wealth, possessions, honor, and the lives of your enemies, and also did not ask for long life, but have asked for wisdom and knowledge that you might judge my people over whom I have made you king, ¹² Wisdom and knowledge are given to you; and I will give you wealth and honour, such as no king has had before you or ever will have after you.

As Jesus, his disciples, and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus (the son of Timaeus) was sitting by the road. ⁴⁷ When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” ⁴⁸ Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" ⁴⁹ Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." Then they called the blind man and told him, "Courage! Get up, he is calling you." ⁵⁰ Throwing off his cloak, Bartimaeus jumped up and came to Jesus. ⁵¹ “What do you want Me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “Rabboni,” said the blind man, “I want to see again.”

²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

¹³ And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it."

¹⁶ It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you, and I appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that should remain, so that the Father might grant you whatever you ask in my Name.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. ⁶ But he must ask in faith, without doubting, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

¹⁴ This is the confidence that we have toward him: that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
