³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes of Jacob's descendants, to whom the message from the LORD had come that "Israel shall be your name."

²⁸ And he said, Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel: for in your fight with God and with men you have overcome.

²⁰ And there he set up an altar, and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

¹⁰ God said to him: "Your name is Jacob. You shall no longer be called Jacob. Israel shall be your name." Thus He called him Israel.

⁴ Moses wrote down all the LORD’s words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

³ and tell them, 'Pick up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests' feet were standing, bring them along with you, and put them down where you camp tonight.'" ⁴ So Joshua summoned the twelve men whom he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe.

And they shall become one in your hand. ¹⁸ 'Tell us what you mean by this.' ¹⁹ Then say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: I will take Joseph's stick, which is in Ephraim's hand, and the tribes of Israel associated with it, and I will put them with Judah's stick. I will make them into one stick. They will be one in my hand."' ²⁰ When you hold the sticks in your hand, let the people see them. ²¹ "Tell them: 'The Sovereign LORD says: "I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from everywhere and bring them to their own land. ²² I will form them into one nation in the land on the mountains of Israel. One king will rule all of them. They will no longer be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.

¹³ This is what the Lord GOD says: "This is to be the territorial border by which you apportion the land for an inheritance among the twelve tribes of Israel, with Joseph double-portioned.

²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone.

⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; ⁵ one Lord, one faith, one baptism, ⁶ one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
