¹ And lo! a man of God, came in out of Judah, by the word of Yahweh, unto Bethel,—as Jeroboam was standing by the altar, to make a perfume. ² He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "Altar, altar, thus says the LORD: 'Look, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name. On you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men's bones on you.'" ³ He gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the LORD has spoken: Look, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out." ⁴ And when king Jeroboam heard the words of the man of God, who cried against the altar, he stretched forth his hand from the altar, saying, Seize him: and behold his hand, which he stretched forth against him withered so that he could not draw it back to him. ⁵ And the altar was split apart, and the fatness was poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God gave by the word of the Lord. ⁶ The king answered the man of God, “Now intercede for the favor of the LORD your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again.” The man of God interceded with the LORD, and the king's hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before. ⁷ The king said to the man of God, "Come home with me, and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward." ⁸ Then the man of God said to the king, "Even if you give to me half of your house I will not come with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water in this place, ⁹ For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way that you came. ¹⁰ So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel. ¹¹ There was an old prophet living in Bethel. His sons told him what the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They reported what he said to the king. ¹² Their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" Now his sons showed him the way the man of God went, who came from Judah. ¹³ Then he said to his sons, "Saddle the donkey for me." So they saddled the donkey for him, and he mounted it ¹⁴ He rode after the man of God. He found him sitting under an oak tree. "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" He asked. "I am." Came his reply. ¹⁵ Then he said to him, "Come home with me, and eat bread." ¹⁶ And he said, I may not return with you nor go in with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. ¹⁷ for I was worded by the word of Yah Veh, Neither eat bread nor drink water there; nor return to go the way you came. ¹⁸ And he said to him, I am a prophet also as you are. And an angel spoke to me by the Word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with you into your house, so that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied to him. ¹⁹ So he returned with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water. ²⁰ But while they were seated at the table, the word of the LORD came to the old prophet who had brought him back. ²¹ and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, So says the LORD, Because you have resisted the mouth of the LORD, and have not kept the command that the LORD your God charged you, ²² but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water;” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.'” ²³ ¶ And when he had eaten of the bread and after he had drunk, the prophet that had brought him back saddled an ass for him, ²⁴ When he had gone, a lion met him by the way and killed him. His body was thrown on the path, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body. ²⁵ Behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived. ²⁶ When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God who was disobedient to the mouth of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to him." ²⁷ He said to his sons: "Saddle my donkey for me." They did so. ²⁸ He went and found his body thrown on the path, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body. The lion had not eaten the body, nor mauled the donkey. ²⁹ The prophet picked up the body of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back to the city where the old man lived so he could mourn and bury him. ³⁰ And he laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother! ³¹ After he had buried him, he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, bury me in the tomb in which the man of God is buried. Lay my bones beside his bones. ³² For the outcry he made by the word of the Lord against the altar in Beth-el and against all the houses of the high places in the towns of Samaria, will certainly come about. ³³ After this thing Jeroboam did not return from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. He consecrated anyone who wanted to be a priest at the high places. ³⁴ This was the sin of the house of Jeroboam. It brought about its ruin and total destruction from the face of the earth.

⁴⁰ He followed the LORD's command given through Moses. The copper-covered altar will remind Israel that no one but a descendant of Aaron may come near to burn incense to the LORD. Everyone else will die like Korah and his followers.

²² But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

³² And Jeroboam made a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah and he went up to the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. And he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made. ³³ Then, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, he went up to burn incense on the altar that he had set up in Bethel, thus beginning the feast that he had made up out of his own heart for the Israelites.

⁵ And the altar was split apart, and the fatness was poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God gave by the word of the Lord.

⁹ For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way that you came.

²⁶ When the prophet who brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, "It is the man of God who was disobedient to the mouth of the LORD. Therefore the LORD has delivered him to the lion, which has mauled him and slain him, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke to him."

³² For the outcry he made by the word of the Lord against the altar in Beth-el and against all the houses of the high places in the towns of Samaria, will certainly come about.

³⁵ Then a certain man of the sons of the prophets, said to his companion, in the word of the Lord: Strike me. But he would not strike.

¹⁷ Then he said, "What monument is that which I see?" The men of the city told him, "It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel."

²⁹ Now, the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer, concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat?

¹⁸ And they stood against King Uzziah and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but it is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully. There will be no honor for you from the LORD God."

¹² The towns of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem will go and cry out to the gods to whom they burn incense, but they'll be no help at all to them in the time of their disaster.

³ "From the thirteenth year of the reign of Ammon's son Josiah, the king of Judah, until the present time, for 23 years the word of the LORD has come to me, and I've spoken to you again and again, but you haven't listened.

²⁹ 'The Babylonians who are attacking this city will break in, set this city on fire, and burn it down. They will burn down the houses of people who made me furious by going up to the roofs to burn incense to Baal and to pour out wine offerings to other gods.'

¹¹ For from the east to the west, My name shall be great among the nations, and everywhere incense shall be offered to My name; and a pure food offering; for My name shall be great among the nations, says the LORD of hosts.

¹⁵ For this we say to you by a word of the Lord, that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will absolutely not precede those who have fallen asleep;

³ Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. And he was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne.

¹ Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

¹ Josiah was eight years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother's name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. ² And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the way of David his father and did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

¹⁵ And also the altar that was in Bethel. the high place that Jeroboam the son of Nebat had made by which he made Israel to sin, both that altar and the high place he broke down, and burned the high place; he ground it into powder, and burned the Asherah. ¹⁶ When Josiah turned and saw the tombs which were there on the hill, he sent and took the bones from the tombs and burned them on the altar. Thus he defiled them according to the word of the LORD that the man of God had proclaimed who had proclaimed these things. ¹⁷ Then he said, "What monument is that which I see?" The men of the city told him, "It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel." ¹⁸ And he said, Let him rest: no man shall disturb his bones. So they saved his bones, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

¹ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.

⁴ He tore down the altars of the Baal gods. He cut down the incense altars that were above them. He destroyed the Asherah poles, carved idols, and metal idols. He ground them into powder and scattered the powder over the tombs of those who had sacrificed to them. ⁵ He burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem. ⁶ In the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim, Simeon, and as far as Naphtali and their surrounding ruins, ⁷ Then he tore down the altars, beat the Asherah poles and idols into powder, and cut down all the incense altars everywhere in Israel. Then he went back to Jerusalem.

² Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for the LORD has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me.

⁹ Behold, the former things have come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

²⁶ That fulfilleth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith of Jerusalem, It shall be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They shall be built, and their ruins will I raise up. ²⁷ who says to the deep, 'Be dry,' and 'I will dry up your rivers;' ²⁸ "'I say of Cyrus: 'He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please. He will say of Jerusalem, 'Let it be rebuilt,' and of the Temple, 'Let its foundations be laid.'"

¹⁰ "I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say: 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.'

⁵ therefore I have declared it to you from of old. Before it happened I showed it to you, lest you should say, My idol has done them. And my graven image and my molten image, has commanded them. ⁶ You have heard; see it all. And will you not declare it? I announce new things to you from this time and hidden things that you have not known. ⁷ They are created now, not in the past. You have not heard about them before today, so you cannot say that you already knew about them.

¹ “Cry aloud! Don’t spare! Lift up your voice like a trumpet! Declare to my people their disobedience, and to the house of Jacob their sins.

²⁹ O land, land, land, hear the word of the LORD.

¹ "Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: 'O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.

⁴ '"'Therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign LORD. The Sovereign LORD says to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes and to the forsaken cities that have become a prey and derision to the rest of the nations that are round about,

⁴ I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and will bring you out with all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed in full armour, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them handling swords;

⁴⁰ He replied, "I tell you, if they were quiet, the stones would cry out!"

³ the LORD said: "Throw it on the ground." When Moses threw it on the ground, it became a snake, and he ran away from it. ⁴ the LORD said to Moses, Stretch out your hand, and take it by the tail. He stretched out his hand, and took hold of it, and it became a rod in his hand. ⁵ “This is so that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

⁸ "Then if they don't believe you and respond to the first sign, they may respond to the second sign. ⁹ But if they don't believe even these two signs, and won't listen to you, then take some water out of the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you took from the Nile will turn into blood on the dry ground."

¹⁰ Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh. They did as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials. It became a large snake.

¹ If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, ² and the sign or the wonder which he foretold to you occurs, saying, Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us serve them, ³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

¹⁷ He said to Him, If now I have found grace in Your eyes, then show me a sign that it is really You Who talk with me.

³⁴ Here's a sign for you your two sons Hophni and Phineas will both die on the same day!

⁸ And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the house of the LORD the third day?

¹¹ "Ask the LORD your God for a sign. Ask it in the deepest depths or in the highest heights." ¹² But Ahaz said: "I will not ask. I will not put the LORD to the test." ¹³ Isaiah said: "Hear this you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also?" ¹⁴ Therefore the LORD will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel (God with us).

⁶ And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city." ' ⁷ Isaiah said:" This is your sign from the LORD that he will do what he promises. ⁸ See, I will make the shade which has gone down on the steps of Ahaz with the sun, go back ten steps. So the shade went back the ten steps by which it had gone down.

²² Hezekiah said: "What will be the sign that I will go up to the Temple of the LORD?"

²⁹ This will be a sign to you,' declares the LORD, 'that I'll punish you in this place so that you may know that my words concerning disaster against you will surely stand.'

³⁸ Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from you." ³⁹ He answered them, "A wicked and adulterous generation seeks for a sign. But no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. ⁴⁰ For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the huge fish, so the Son of Man shall be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

¹⁸ Then the Jews asked him, "What sign can you show us as authority for doing these things?"

²² Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,

¹¹ They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as Elisha had spoken. ¹⁹ Then Elisha told the army, "This isn't the way, and this isn't the city! Follow me, and I'll bring you to the man you're seeking. Then he led them to Samaria. ²⁰ And when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in prison, burning with wrath against him because of this thing. And at the same time Asa was cruel to some of the people.

²⁵ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon, the ruler of the town, and to Joash, the king's son; ²⁶ Say: "This is what the king says: 'Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return home safely.'" ²⁷ And Micaiah said, "If you surely return in peace the LORD has not spoken with me." Then he said, "Hear, peoples, all of them!"

¹⁵ And the anger of the LORD burned against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him; and he said to him, Why have you sought the gods of the people that have not delivered their people out of your hand? ¹⁶ And it happened that while he was speaking to him, he said to him, "Have we appointed you as a counselor to the king? Stop—why should you be killed?" So the prophet stopped and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my advice."

¹⁵ "Do not touch my anointed ones. Do my prophets no harm."

² Pashur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were at the upper Benjamin Gate of the temple. ³ The next day Pashur released Jeremiah from the stocks, and Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not named you Pashur, but rather Magor-missabib. ⁴ For the LORD says, 'Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will carry them captive to Babylon, and will kill them with the sword. ⁵ I'll turn over all the wealth of this city, all its possessions, all its valuables, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah right into the hands of their enemies, and they'll plunder them, capture them, and take them to Babylon. ⁶ »‘You, Pashhur, and all who live in your house will go into captivity. You will enter Babylon, and there you will die and be buried, you and all your friends to whom you have falsely prophesied.’«

⁸ As soon as Jeremiah finished saying everything that the LORD had commanded him to say to all the people, the priests, the prophets, and all the people seized him, telling him as they did: "You must certainly die! ⁹ Why have you prophesied in the LORD's name, saying, 'This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate, without inhabitant?'” All the people were crowded around Jeremiah in the LORD's house. ¹⁰ When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house to the house of the LORD; and they sat in the entry of the New Gate of the LORD's house. ¹¹ The priests and the prophets said to the leaders and to the people: "This man deserves to be sentenced to death because he has spoken against our city. You heard him with your own ears."

²⁰ "There was another man prophesying in the name of the LORD. His name was Uriah, son of Shemaiah, from Kiriath Jearim. He prophesied against this city and this land as Jeremiah did. ²¹ "When King Jehoiakim and all his personal troops and officials heard what Uriah said the king wanted to put him to death. But Uriah heard about it and fled in fear to Egypt. ²² And Jehoiakim the king sent Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt. ²³ "They brought Uriah from Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim. The king executed Uriah and threw his body into the burial ground for the common people."

⁴ Then the officials said to the king, "Let this man be put to death because he's undermining the efforts of the soldiers who remain in this city and that of all the people by speaking words like these to them. Indeed, this man is not seeking the well-being of this people, but rather their harm." ⁵ King Zedekiah said, "Look, he's in your hands, and the king can do nothing to you." ⁶ So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the pit of Malchiah, the son of the king, which was in the courtyard of the guard. And they let Jeremiah down by ropes. Now in the pit there was no water, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.

¹⁰ Then Amasias the priest of Baithel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos is raising insurrections against thee in the midst of the house of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words. ¹¹ For this Amos has said, 'Jeroboam will die by the sword and Israel will certainly go into exile away from his land.'" ¹² And Amaziah said to Amos, "O seer, go, flee to the land of Judah and earn food there and prophesy there!" ¹³ Don't prophesy anymore at Bethel, because it's the king's sanctuary and a temple of the kingdom." ¹⁴ Then Amos answered Amaziah, "I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a farmer of sycamore figs; ¹⁵ But the LORD took me from tending the flock and the LORD kept saying to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.' ¹⁶ Now, then, hear the word of the LORD: You say, Do not prophesy against Israel, and do not drop words against the house of Isaac. ¹⁷ 'Therefore this is what the LORD says: "Your wife will become a whore in the city, and your sons and daughters will die by the sword. Your land will be divided and apportioned, and you will die in a foreign land. Israel will surely go into exile, far from its homeland."'"

⁴⁰ And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

⁵⁷ Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the High Priest, where the Teachers of the Law and the Councillors had assembled.

⁴⁴ Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The One I kiss is the man; arrest Him and lead Him away securely.” ⁴⁵ Going directly to Jesus, he said, “Rabbi!” and kissed Him. ⁴⁶ Then the men seized Jesus, and arrested him.

¹⁹ But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done, ²⁰ Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.

¹⁰ He looked around at them all, and said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He did, and his hand was restored.

²⁰ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever receives the one I send receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives the One who sent Me.”

⁶ When Jesus said 'I am he,' they drew back and fell to the ground.

¹² So they stirred up the people and elders and scribes. They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. ¹³ They presented false witnesses who said, “This man never stops speaking against this holy place and against the Law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say that this Jesus from Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us."

⁴ He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?” ⁵ “Who are You, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. ⁹ Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked directly at Elymas ¹⁰ and said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord? ¹¹ Now look, the hand of the Lord is against you, and for a time you will be blind and unable to see the light of the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

⁵ If anyone wants to harm them, fire proceeds from their mouths and devours their enemies. In this way, anyone who wants to harm them must be killed.

¹⁸ Look! About this time tomorrow, I'll send a severe hail storm, such as has not happened in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. ¹⁹ Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. The hail will come down on every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn't brought home, and they will die.”'” ²⁰ Of the servants of Pharaoh, the one who feared the word of the LORD made his slaves and his livestock flee to the houses. ²¹ and he that did not regard the word of the LORD left his slaves and his livestock in the field. ²² the LORD said to Moses: "Stretch out your hand toward the sky. Hail will fall on all the land of Egypt, on man and on beast and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt." ²³ When Moses stretched out his staff toward heaven, the LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning struck the earth. The LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ It hailed, and lightning flashed while it hailed. This was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. ²⁵ And throughout all the land of Egypt the hail smote all that was in the field, both man and beast, and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

²³ Then the LORD said to Moses: ²⁴ Say to the people, Come away from the tent of Korah Dathan, and Abiram. ²⁵ Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel followed him. ²⁶ He said to the congregation: "Move away from the tents of these wicked men. Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you’ll be swept away because of all their sins." ²⁷ So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram came out and were standing at the entrances to their tents with their wives and children. ²⁸ Moses said: "This is how you will know that the LORD sent me to do all these things and that it wasn’t my idea: ²⁹ "If these men die a natural death like all other people the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ "But if the LORD does something totally new, if the ground opens up, swallows them and everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive to their graves; then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt." ³¹ When he finished speaking, the ground under them split, ³² The earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their households, all of Korah's men, and all their goods. ³³ They went down alive to their graves with everything that belonged to them. The ground covered them. They disappeared from the assembly. ³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up. ³⁵ And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

²² When a prophet speaks in the name of LORD, if the thing does not follow, nor come to pass, that is the thing which LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously. Thou shall not be afraid of him.

³ He gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the LORD has spoken: Look, the altar will be split apart, and the ashes that are on it will be poured out."

²⁸ Micaiah said, "If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me." He said, "Listen, all you people."

³⁵ The fight grew more violent as the day went on. The king was propped up in his chariot facing the Syrians (Aramaeans). The floor of the chariot was covered with the blood from his wound. By evening he died.

¹⁶ Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'I'm about to remove you from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.'" ¹⁷ And Hananiah died the same year in the seventh month.

²⁰ Then they went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word by the signs that accompanied it. Amen.

¹ Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. ² With his wife's full knowledge he kept back some of the money for himself and brought the remainder and laid it at the apostles' feet. ³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land? ⁴ Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!” ⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened. ⁶ Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. ⁷ About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened; ⁸ “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.” ⁹ Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too." ¹⁰ At that instant she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and found her dead. So they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

⁸ "The king sent for Moses and Aaron and told them: If you ask the LORD to take these frogs away from me and my people, I will let your people go and offer sacrifices to him."

¹² Then Moses and Aaron left Pharaoh's presence, and Moses cried out to the LORD about the frogs which he had sent on Pharaoh. ¹³ The LORD did just as Moses asked, and the frogs died in the houses, in the courtyards, and in the fields.

²⁸ Then Pharaoh said, "I'll let you go so you can offer sacrifices to the LORD your God in the desert. But you must not go very far away. Pray for me."

²⁸ "Pray to the LORD! We have had enough of this thunder and hail! I promise to let you go. You do not have to stay here any longer."

¹⁷ "Please forgive my sin one more time. Pray to the LORD your God to take this deadly plague away from me."

³² Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go. And bless me also.

¹³ So Moses prayed to the LORD: "O LORD, please heal her."

⁷ The people came to Moses and said: "We sinned when we criticized the LORD and you. Pray to the LORD so that he will take the snakes away from us. So Moses prayed for the people."

¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, Pray to the LORD your God for your servants, and not we will die, for we have added this evil to all our sins to ask a king for ourselves.

²³ Now as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. I'll also instruct you in the way that is good and right.

³ King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophet Jeremiah. They asked him: "Please pray to the LORD our God for us."

² came to Jeremias the prophet and said to him, Have compassion on us, we beseech thee and pray to the Lord thy God for this remnant; for we are left only few of many as thine eyes see. ³ "Pray that the LORD our God will show us the way we should go and what we should do." ⁴ I answered: "Very well, then. I will pray to the LORD our God, just as you have asked. I will tell you what he says. I will not keep back anything from you."

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

²⁷ "But I tell you who hear: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, ²⁸ bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

³⁴ And Jesus said: Father, forgive them. For they do not know what they do. And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

²⁴ Then Simon answered, “Pray to the Lord for me, so that nothing you have said may happen to me.”

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. ¹⁸ Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth yielded its crops.

⁹ I will make some who belong to that synagogue of Satan and claim to be Jews when they are not so, but are lying—I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and learn that I loved you.

⁵ I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said."

¹⁵ And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Please stay, and let us prepare a young goat for you."

²¹ So he brought him into his house, and fed the donkeys. And they washed their feet, and ate and drank.

⁷ Then Saul said to his servant, But if we go, what are we to take the man? all our bread is gone, and we have no offering to take to the man of God: what are we to do? ⁸ The servant again answered Saul and said, "Look, I have in my hand a quarter shekel of silver! I will give it to the man of God so that he will tell us our way."

¹⁵ When he returned to the man of God, he and all of his army, he came and stood before him and said, "Please now, I know that there is no God in all of the world except in Israel. So then, please take a gift from your servant."

⁵ even while he had not yet returned, or go back to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and live with him among the people. Or to all that is right in your eyes to go, go. And the chief of the executioners gave him ration and a reward, and sent him away.

¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you.

¹⁸ When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, ¹⁹ saying, "Give me also this power, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." ²⁰ But Peter replied, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!

² Be shepherds of God's flock that is among you, watching over it, not because you must but because you want to, and not greedily but eagerly, as God desires. ³ Then they said, "The God of the Hebrews has met with us. Please let us go a three-day journey into the desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God so he does not strike us with pestilence or sword.

⁶ Pharaoh gave these orders to the slave drivers and foremen:

² You are to speak all that I've commanded you, and then your brother Aaron will speak to Pharaoh, telling him to let the Israelites go out of his land.

¹⁸ Balaam answered Balak's servants: "Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not disobey the command of the LORD my God no matter whether the request was important or not.

¹³ 'If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can't go beyond the word of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what the LORD says?'

¹⁶ And he said, I may not return with you nor go in with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water with you in this place. ¹⁷ for I was worded by the word of Yah Veh, Neither eat bread nor drink water there; nor return to go the way you came.

¹⁶ But he answered: As the Lord liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And when he pressed him, he still refused.

²⁶ And he said to him, Went not my heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? ²⁷ Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your descendants forever." He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

¹¹ If anyone will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that place, as a testimony against them.”

²³ And he vowed to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."

⁹ And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. ¹⁰ As the truth of Christ is in me, no man in the regions of Achaia shall stop me from this boasting.

²⁶ He said to the congregation: "Move away from the tents of these wicked men. Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you’ll be swept away because of all their sins."

¹³ some worthless men have gone out from among you and have mislead the inhabitants of their city, saying: Let us go and serve other gods you have not known. ¹⁴ then you shall inquire and make search, and ask carefully; and, behold, if the thing is truly established, that this abominable thing has been done among you, ¹⁵ Then take up arms against the people of that town and give it up to the curse, with all its cattle and everything in it. ¹⁶ "Gather all its treasure into the middle of its open square and burn the city and all its treasure with fire as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God. It shall be a ruin forever. It shall never be rebuilt. ¹⁷ Nothing of the devoted thing shall cling to your hand; that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show you mercy, and have compassion on you, and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers; ¹⁸ if you obey the voice of the LORD your God by observing all his commands that I'm commanding you today. Do what is right in the sight of the LORD your God."

²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams!

¹ And lo! a man of God, came in out of Judah, by the word of Yahweh, unto Bethel,—as Jeroboam was standing by the altar, to make a perfume.

²¹ and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, So says the LORD, Because you have resisted the mouth of the LORD, and have not kept the command that the LORD your God charged you, ²² but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water;” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.'”

¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

⁴ Let not my heart turn aside to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and let me not eat of their delicacies.

¹⁷ If you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

⁹ As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; remain in my love. ¹⁰ "If you obey my commands you will abide in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and abide in his love.

¹⁴ You are my friends, if you do what I command you.

¹⁷ Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and obstacles that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them.

¹¹ But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

¹¹ Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.

¹⁰ If any one comes to you and does not bring this Teaching, do not receive him into your house or welcome him; ¹¹ for he who greets him shares in his wicked work.

⁴ Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues.

⁴ And God met Balaam. And he said to Him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon the altar a bull and a ram. ⁵ And the LORD put a saying in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Go again to Balak and say on this wise."

² And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and sees Israel encamped by their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him.

¹¹ And when all who knew him formerly saw that he prophesied with prophets, the people said to one another, "What is this that has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?"

²⁰ But while they were seated at the table, the word of the LORD came to the old prophet who had brought him back. ²¹ and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, So says the LORD, Because you have resisted the mouth of the LORD, and have not kept the command that the LORD your God charged you,

²⁵ Behold, men passed by, and saw the body thrown on the path, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet lived.

¹⁸ And he said, Let him rest: no man shall disturb his bones. So they saved his bones, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria.

² "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, 'Hear the word of the LORD:

¹⁶ the prophets of Israel who prophesy as to Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her. And there is no peace, declares the Sovereign LORD.

²² Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’

⁵ For if a man does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?

¹⁶ but he was rebuked for his own transgression by a donkeya beast without speechwho spoke with a man's voice and restrained the prophet's madness.

²¹ Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

¹⁰ "Speak, you who ride on white donkeys, you who sit on saddle blankets, and you who walk by the way.

⁴ He had thirty sons who rode thirty donkeys. They had thirty cities in the land of Gilead. They are called the villages of Jair.

²⁶ He replied, "Well, your majesty, since your servant is lame, I told myself, 'I'll have my donkey saddled and I'll ride on it so I can leave with the king.' But my servant Ziba deceived me

²⁷ He said to his sons: "Saddle my donkey for me." They did so.

⁴ and ran for a day's journey deep into the wilderness. He found a juniper tree, sat down under it, and prayed that he could die. He asked God, "Enough! LORD! Take my life, because I'm not better than my ancestors!"

⁶ Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, wearied as he was from his journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

³⁴ "My food," replied Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work.

¹¹ To this very hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. ¹² We work hard with our own hands. When we are vilified, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;

²⁷ in labor and toil and often without sleep, in hunger and thirst and often without food, in cold and exposure.

¹² I know what it is to be poor, and I know what it is to be rich: I have gone through many things and experienced many things, both to be full and to be hungry, both to have plenty and to be in want. ¹³ I can do anything through him who gives me strength.

¹ Now the serpent was craftier than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman: "Did God really say, you must not eat from any tree in the garden?" ² The woman said to the serpent: "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden. ³ '"However, God did say: 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not touch it, or you will die.'"

¹³ When Balaam got up in the morning, he said to Balak's princes: "Go back to your own country. the LORD has refused to let me go with you."

¹⁹ "Now, please stay here tonight, as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD may have to tell me."

⁸ Then the man of God said to the king, "Even if you give to me half of your house I will not come with you, nor will I eat bread or drink water in this place, ⁹ For so was it charged me by the word of the LORD, saying, Eat no bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way that you came.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

²³ But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.”

⁴ "You will not die," the serpent said to the woman. ⁵ "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened. Then you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

³⁵ The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only the word that I will speak to you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

¹¹ The angel of the LORD came and sat under the oak that was at Ophrah that belonged to Jehoash the Abiezrite; and Gideon his son was threshing wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites. ¹² The angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior."

³ The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, Look now, you are barren and childless but you will conceive and bear a son.

¹⁵ Elders and dignitaries are the head, and prophets who teach lies are the tail.

¹² They lied about the LORD. They said: "It is not he, bad things will not happen to us. We will not see sword or famine."

³¹ "The prophets prophesy falsely, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?

¹⁴ In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.”

¹⁷ They say continually to those who despise me, the LORD has said, You will have peace. And to everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil will come upon you.

³² Look, I'm against those who prophesy based on false dreams," declares the LORD, "and relate them and lead my people astray with their lies and their recklessness. I didn't send them; I didn't command them, and they provide no benefit at all to these people," declares the LORD.

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you have made this people trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'I'm about to remove you from the face of the earth. This year you will die because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.'"

⁹ “My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who utter lying divinations. They will not be in the council of my people, neither will they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither will they enter into the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Sovereign LORD.” ¹⁰ Because, yes, because they led my people astray, saying 'Peace!' And there is not peace. And when anyone builds a flimsy wall, look, they coat it with whitewash.

²² ‘»You have discouraged righteous people with your lies, even though I had not brought them any grief. You encouraged wicked people not to turn from their wicked ways to save their lives.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.

¹⁸ For such as these are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

¹ Now there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies that even deny the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

²⁰ But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed signs on his behalf, by which he deceived those who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. Both of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

¹ If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,

³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

⁵ That prophet or diviner of dreams must be executed, because he advocated rebellion against the LORD your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of slavery, and because he lured you from the way in which the LORD your God instructed you to live. Purge the evil from among you."

²⁰ But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, that which I have not commanded him to speak, and who speaks in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

¹⁹ But Peter and John replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to listen to you rather than God.

¹⁸ With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice the ones who are just escaping from those who live in error. ¹⁹ They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to corruption. For a man is a slave to whatever has overcome him.

⁵ And the LORD put a saying in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Go again to Balak and say on this wise."

¹⁶ The LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and say this."

⁴ The oracle of him who hears the words of God and who sees the vision of the Almighty. Falling down, yet having his eyes open.

¹⁶ "The oracle of him who hears the words of God, knows the knowledge of the Most High, and sees the vision of the Almighty. Falling down, yet having his eyes uncovered. ¹⁷ I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and crush all the sons of Sheth. ¹⁸ Edom will be a captive; Seir, its enemies, will be a captive, and Israel will be acting courageously. ¹⁹ One from Jacob shall hold sway, and will destroy the survivors of the city. ²⁰ And he looked at Amalek, uttered his oracle, and said, "Amalek is first of the nations, but his future will be forever ruin." ²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable and said, Your dwelling place is strong, your nest is set in the rock. ²² But still the Kenites will be wasted, till Asshur takes you away prisoner. ²³ And he took up his oracle, and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this! ²⁴ "Ships will come from the coast of Kittim. They will afflict Asshur and will afflict Eber. They will also come to destruction."

⁵¹ He did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

² If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

⁷ Then the eyes of both of them were opened. They realized they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

³ Therefore Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and in the presence of all the people I will display my glory.'" So Aaron was silent.

¹² But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them."

²⁴ "Let Aaron be gathered to his people; he will not come into the land that I have given to the Israelites because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

¹⁸ Soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward from his seat by the gate, and his back was broken, and he died; for he was an old man and heavy. Now he had judged Israel twenty years.

¹³ Then Samuel said to Saul, "You have behaved foolishly! You have not kept the command of the LORD your God which he commanded you. For then, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. ¹⁴ But now your kingdom shall not stand. the LORD has sought Him a man after His own heart, and the LORD has appointed him to be leader over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.

¹⁹ "Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you pounce on the plunder? Why did you do evil in the sight of the LORD?"

²² And Samuel said, Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice! To listen is better than the fat of rams! ²³ For rebellion is like the sin of divination; arrogance is like iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you from being king!" ²⁴ Then Saul told Samuel: "I have sinned by not following the LORD's command or your instructions. I was afraid of the people and listened to them.

⁷ the LORD's anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God's ark.

⁹ "'Why did you despise what the LORD has promised by doing what is detestable in his sight? "'You struck down Uriah the Hittite with a battle sword. "'You took his wife to be your own. "'You killed him with the sword of the Ammonite army. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.' ¹¹ "This is what the LORD says: 'Look, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

¹³ So Gad went to David and asked him, "Shall seven years of famine come to your land, or three months of reversals while you flee from your enemies as they pursue you, or three days of pestilence in your land? Decide right now what I am to answer to the one who sent me."

¹⁷ for I was worded by the word of Yah Veh, Neither eat bread nor drink water there; nor return to go the way you came.

¹³ Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him. His wise friends and his wife Zeresh said to him, "If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fail, is one of the Jewish people, you won't prevail against him. Instead, you will surely fall before him."

¹⁹ Your wickedness will chastise you, and your apostasies will reprove you. Therefore know and see that it is evil and bitter, your forsaking of the LORD, your God, and fear of me is not in you," declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty.

⁸ But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a divine curse! ⁹ As we have said before, so I say again now, if any one is preaching to you a gospel contrary to what you received, let him be accursed!

¹⁹ Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.

³⁰ And he laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, Alas, my brother!

¹³ All Israel will mourn for him and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam will come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward the LORD, the God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

¹⁹ In process of time, at the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of severe diseases. His people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. ²⁰ Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for eight years. He left this earth to nobody's regret and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.

¹⁸ All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, each one in his own house. ¹⁹ But you are thrown from your grave like a despised branch, like the covering of the slain, those pierced by the sword, those who go down into the stones of the Pit, like a dead body trampled under foot. ²⁰ You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The offspring of evildoers will not be mentioned forever.

¹⁸ Therefore the LORD tells us about Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: "They will not cry for him: 'Alas, my brother!' And, 'Alas, sister!' They will not mourn him: 'Alas for the master!' And, "Alas for his splendor!" ¹⁹ He will be buried with the burial of a donkey. He will be dragged away and thrown outside the gates of Jerusalem.

³⁶ so he told him, "Because you haven't obeyed the LORD's voice, as soon as you leave here, a lion will kill you." As soon as the man left, a lion found him and killed him.

²⁴ He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion outside. I will be killed in the streets."

¹³ The sluggard says, "There is a lion in the road. A fierce lion roams the streets."

¹⁹ It will be as if a man fled from a lion and a bear met him; or he went into the house and leaned his hand against the wall and a snake bit him.

³¹ For if we were judging ourselves, we would not come under judgment. ³² But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

¹¹ There was an old prophet living in Bethel. His sons told him what the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They reported what he said to the king.

¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.'

¹⁴ But because you have utterly scorned the LORD in this matter, the son born for you will certainly die."

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of you. I am afraid of your judgments.

³¹ If the righteous be recompensed upon earth, how much more then the ungodly and the sinner?

⁶ Slay utterly old man and youth, and virgin, and infants, and women: but go ye not nigh any on whom is the mark: begin at my sanctuary. So they began with the elder men who were within in the house.

³⁰ That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe, ²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

² And fire went out from before the LORD and consumed them; and they died before the LORD.

⁵ So they came near, and carried them in their tunics out of the camp, as Moses had said.

⁴ "You will drink from the brook. I have ordered the ravens to feed you there."

⁶ The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

¹¹ when I said: 'This far you may come and no farther'; here is where your proud waves halt?

⁷ Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures, and all depths. ⁸ lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word;

²² "Do you not reverence (respect) me?" Asks the LORD. "Do you not tremble [with awe] in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, a permanent barrier it cannot cross. Although the waves toss continuously, they cannot break through. Although they roar, they cannot cross it. ²³ But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts. They have turned aside and have gone away.

²² Then, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

²⁷ The satraps, the viceroys, the governors, and the royal advisors gazed at those men and saw that the fire had no effect on their bodies not a hair on their head was singed, their clothes were not burned, and they did not smell of fire. ²⁸ Nebuchadnezzar spoke up and said: 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! He sent his angel to deliver his servants who trusted in him. They disobeyed the king's command and were willing to risk their lives in order not to serve or worship any god except their own God.

²² "My God sent his angel, and shut the lions' mouths. They did not hurt me. I was found innocent before him. I have done no wrong before you, O king." ²³ The king was very happy. He commanded that they take Daniel out of the den. So Daniel was taken out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he trusted in his God. ²⁴ Then the king gave orders to bring those men who had tried to have Daniel devoured, and they threw them, their children, and their wives into the lions' pit. They had not reached the floor of the pit before the lions had overtaken them and crushed all their bones.

²⁶ Suddenly a strong earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. At once all the doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.

³³ who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and obtained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, ³⁴ quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, whose weakness was turned to strength, who became mighty in war, and put foreign armies to flight.

¹⁸ Therefore the LORD tells us about Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah: "They will not cry for him: 'Alas, my brother!' And, 'Alas, sister!' They will not mourn him: 'Alas for the master!' And, "Alas for his splendor!"

² God-fearing men buried Stephen and mourned deeply over him.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

⁹ Do not take away my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men

¹⁰ In such a case I saw the wicked entombed, Those who used to come and go from the holy place And were lauded in the city where they had done such things. This too is vanity."

²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and the angels carried him into AbrahamÆs bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side.

³⁰ I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and cast your dead bodies upon the bodies of your idols; and my soul will abhor you.

²⁹ And he put one in Beth-el and the other in Dan.

³¹ Then he built the houses on the high places, and he appointed priests from all walks of life who were not from the sons of Levi.

² He cried against the altar by the word of the LORD, and said, "Altar, altar, thus says the LORD: 'Look, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name. On you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and they will burn men's bones on you.'"

²⁴ He bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver, fortified the hill, and named the city Samaria after Shemer, the former owner of the hill.

¹⁶ When Josiah turned and saw the tombs which were there on the hill, he sent and took the bones from the tombs and burned them on the altar. Thus he defiled them according to the word of the LORD that the man of God had proclaimed who had proclaimed these things. ¹⁷ Then he said, "What monument is that which I see?" The men of the city told him, "It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel." ¹⁸ And he said, Let him rest: no man shall disturb his bones. So they saved his bones, with the bones of the prophet that came out of Samaria. ¹⁹ Josiah removed all the houses of the high places the kings of Israel built in the towns of Samaria. This provoked the LORD to anger and he did with them as he had done in Bethel.

¹³ The troops that Amaziah sent back so that they couldn’t go with him into battle raided the towns in Judah from Samaria to Beth Horon. They killed three thousand people and took a lot of goods.

¹⁰ and the rest of the peoples, whom the great and noble Osnappar hath exiled, and set in the city of Samaria,—and the rest Beyond the River, and so forth:

⁴ Now he had to go through Samaria. ⁵ So He came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph.

⁴¹ »Dress your brother Aaron and his sons in these clothes and anoint them, ordain them, and set them apart to serve me as priests.

⁵¹ When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

¹⁰ "Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests. Anyone else who tries to do the priests' duties must be put to death."

⁵ "The staff from the man I choose will begin to grow. In this way I will silence the frequent complaints the Israelites make against you and Aaron."

¹² The Israelites said to Moses: Now we are going to die! We will perish! We are all lost! ¹³ Anyone who comes near the LORD’s tent will die! Are we all going to die?

¹² Micah consecrated the Levite, and the young man became his priest, living in his house.

³¹ Then he built the houses on the high places, and he appointed priests from all walks of life who were not from the sons of Levi.

¹⁵ and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made.

⁹ Have ye not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests as the peoples of the lands? whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, he becomes a priest of what is not God.

³⁴ When he slew them, they sought him, and turned them early, and inquired after God.

⁴ But the vessel he was working on with the clay was ruined in the potter's hand. So he remade it into another vessel that seemed appropriate to him.

¹¹ For indeed, the LORD is giving the command and he will smash the large house to rubble and the small house into bits.

¹³ while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

²⁶ Then Jeroboam said to himself, "Now the kingdom will return to the house of David

³⁰ This thing became a sin; for the people went even as far as Dan to worship before the one there.

¹⁰ Therefore, look, I am about to bring disaster upon the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off males from Jeroboam, bond or free, in Israel. I will burn after the house of Jeroboam as one burns after the manure, until it is finished.

²⁹ As soon as he was king, he struck all the house of Jeroboam. He didn’t leave to Jeroboam any who breathed, until he had destroyed him; according to the saying of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite; ³⁰ because of the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and that he caused Israel to sin by his provocation with which he provoked the LORD the God of Israel to anger.

³¹ But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart; he did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam by which he caused Israel to sin.

²¹ for he rent Israel away from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat, king,—and Jeroboam thrust away Israel from following the LORD, and caused them to commit a great sin.

⁶ Righteousness guards the way of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
