¹⁵ The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment.

¹⁶ David begged God on behalf of the youngster. He fasted, went inside, and spent the night lying on the ground. ¹⁷ The elders of his household stood over him to lift him up from the ground, but he was not willing, and he did not eat any food with them. ¹⁸ On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. They thought: "While the child was alive, we talked to him, and he would not listen to us. How can we tell him the child is dead? He may harm himself." ¹⁹ David saw that his servants were whispering to one another. He realized (discerned) that the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" David asked them. "Yes, he is dead." They answered. ²⁰ David stood up from the ground and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothing. Then he went to the house of the LORD and worshiped, and he went to his own house. He asked, so they served him food, and he ate. ²¹ His staff asked him, "What's this about? When the child was alive, you fasted and cried. Now that the child has died, you get up and eat!" ²² And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I thought, Who knows? [perhaps] the LORD will be gracious to me, that the child may live. ²³ But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.

¹⁷ Then your servant said, May the word of my lord the king give me peace! for my lord the king is as the angel of God in his hearing of good and bad: and may the Lord your God be with you!

⁹ So give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, so I can discern between good and evil. Otherwise, how shall I be able to govern this great people of yours?" ¹⁰ The LORD was pleased that Solomon had asked for this, ¹¹ And God said to him, Because your request is for this thing, and not for long life for yourself or for wealth or for the destruction of your haters, but for wisdom to be a judge of causes;

¹⁴ The Lord is the strength of them who fear him; and it is his covenant to display it for them.

⁵ Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

⁵ Whoever keeps the commandment shall not come to harm, and his wise heart will know the time and procedure.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.

¹ Then some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” ² So Paul and Barnabas engaged these men in sharp debate. The two of them were appointed, along with some other believers, to go up to Jerusalem to see the apostles and elders about this question. ³ The church saw them off upon their journey, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria they told of the conversion of the heathen, and caused great rejoicing among all the brothers. ⁴ When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them. ⁵ But some believers from the party of the Pharisees stood up and declared, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the Law of Moses.”

³ Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts; for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

¹ Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly—as infants in Christ.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

³⁷ If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that what I am writing to you is the Lord's command.

³ Yet not even Titus, who was with me, was compelled to be circumcised, even though he was a Greek. ⁴ This issue arose because some false brothers were brought in under false pretenses to spy on our freedom in Christ Jesus, in order to enslave us. ⁵ We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel would remain with you.

¹ Brothers, if someone is caught in a trespass, you who are spiritual should restore him with a spirit of gentleness. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

¹³ until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as we mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ. ¹⁴ Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming.

¹⁰ so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ;

⁹ For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,

²¹ but test everything; hold on to the good.

¹⁴ But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained their sensibilities to distinguish good from evil.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
