¹ Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it on his head, and kissed him, and said to him, Hath not the Lord anointed thee to be ruler ever his people Israel? Thou therefore shalt rule over the people of the Lord, and save them out of the hand of their enemies. And this shall be to thee the sign that the Lord hath anointed thee to be ruler over his heritage;

⁶ and the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and be changed into another man.

⁹ Accordingly, soon as he turned his back to depart from Samuel, God gave him another heart; and all the signs came to pass that day. ¹⁰ And when he went thence to the mount, behold a choir of prophets met him, and a Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied in the midst of them.

⁶ a Spirit of the Lord came upon him, and his anger was greatly inflamed against them,

¹⁸ Then one of his servants answered and said, Behold I have seen a son of Jessai the Bethlemite. He is skilled in music, and is a man of understanding and a warrior, graceful in speech, and of a comely appearance, and the Lord is with him.

⁶ And when he arose and went into the house, the prophet poured the oil on his head, and said to him, Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, I have anointed thee to be king over the people of the Lord; over Israel.

¹ And there shall spring up a shoot from the root of Jessai; even from that root shall spring up a blooming shoot; ² and the spirit of God will rest upon him; a spirit of wisdom and understanding; a spirit of counsel and majesty; a spirit of knowledge and piety: ³ by this spirit he will be filled with the fear of God. He will not judge according to opinion, nor will he reprove according to report;

³⁴ For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God; for God giveth him not the spirit by measure.

⁹ Thou didst love righteousness and hate iniquity, Therefore God, thy God anointed thee With the oil of joy above thy associates!"
