¹ When you sit to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before you: ² And put a knife to your throat, if you are a man given to appetite. ³ Do not be desirous of his dainties: For they are deceitful meat. ⁴ Do not labor to be rich: Cease out of your own wisdom. ⁵ Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. ⁶ Do not eat the bread of him that has an evil eye, neither desire his dainty meats: ⁷ For as he thinks in his heart, so is he: He says to you, "Eat and drink"; but his heart is not with you. ⁸ The morsel which you have eaten you shall vomit up, and lose your sweet words. ⁹ Do not speak in the ears of a fool: For he will despise the wisdom of your words. ¹⁰ Do not remove the old landmark; and do not enter into the fields of the fatherless: ¹¹ For their Redeemer is mighty; He shall plead their cause with you. ¹² Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge. ¹³ Do not withhold correction from the child: For if you beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from hell. ¹⁵ My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. ¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things. ¹⁷ Do not let your heart envy sinners: But be in the fear of the LORD all the day long. ¹⁸ For surely there is an end; and your expectation shall not be cut off. ¹⁹ Hear, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart in the way. ²⁰ Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: ²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: And drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. ²² Hearken to your father that begat you, and do not despise your mother when she is old. ²³ Buy the truth, and do not sell it; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. ²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: And he that begets a wise child shall have joy of him. ²⁵ Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bore you shall rejoice. ²⁶ My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. ²⁷ For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. ²⁸ She also lies in wait as for a prey, and increases the transgressors among men. ²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has babbling? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? ³⁰ Those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives his color in the cup, when it moves itself aright. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder. ³³ Your eyes shall behold strange women, and your heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ Yes, you shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ "They have stricken me", you shall say, "and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I did not feel it: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again."

³² And they set up for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which ate with him, by themselves: Because the Egyptians cannot eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination to the Egyptians. ³³ And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: And the men marveled at one another. ³⁴ And he took and sent dishes to them from before him: But Benjamin's dish was five times as much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

¹² These are spots in your feasts of love, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: They are clouds without water, carried about by winds; trees whose fruit withers, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

⁸ For which reason if your hand or your foot causes you to offend, cut them off, and cast them away from you: It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. ⁹ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and throw it away from you: It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

²⁷ But I weary my body, and bring it into subjection: Lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

⁴ Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity: And let me not eat of their delicacies.

⁶ Do not eat the bread of him that has an evil eye, neither desire his dainty meats:

⁸ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's food, nor with the wine which he drank: Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

³⁴ Also take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you when unaware.

²² That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

⁵ Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not to your own understanding.

⁷ Do not be wise in your own eyes: Fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

²⁷ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he that hates gifts shall live.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: But he that makes haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break in and steal:

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man shall give to you: For God the Father has sealed Him."

²⁵ For I do not intend, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not mind high things, but descend from privilege of rank to men of low estate. Do not be wise in your own conceits.

⁸ And having food and clothing, let us be content with these. ⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while coveting after, some have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁵ Let your behavior be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: For He has said, "I will never leave you, nor forsake you."

³⁶ And their father Jacob said to them, "You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is not here, and will you take Benjamin away: All these things are against me."

¹⁴ And there came a messenger to Job, and said, "The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them: ¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you. ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell on the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: Surely they are disquieted in vain: He heaps up riches, and does not know who shall gather them.

³⁶ Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness. ³⁷ Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and You vivify me in Your way.

²⁴ For riches are not forever: And does the crown endure to every generation?

² "Vanity of vanities", says the Preacher, "Vanity of vanities; all is vanity."

¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners of them to their hurt. ¹⁴ But those riches perish by evil travail: And he begets a son, and there is nothing in his hand.

⁸ "Vanity of vanities", said the preacher; "all is vanity."

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: It means, that even those that have wives be as though they had none; ³⁰ and those that weep, as though they did not weep; and those that rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those that buy, as though they did not possess; ³¹ and those that use this world, as not abusing it: For the fashion of this world passes away.

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they are not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten.

¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, "The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you.

⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, which would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,

⁹ He that has a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he gives of his bread to the poor.

⁸ But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's food, nor with the wine which he drank: Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. ⁹ Now God had brought Daniel into favor and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs. ¹⁰ And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, "I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink: For why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? Then you would make me endanger my head with the king."

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with my own? Is your eye evil because I am good?'

²² thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

¹⁵ And she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you', when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me in what your great strength lies."

²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you? ²⁷ But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. ²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? ²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

²⁷ And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies to each other at one table; but it shall not prosper: For the end shall still be at the time appointed.

³ And behold, certain ones of the scribes said within themselves, "This Man blasphemes." ⁴ But Jesus knowing their thoughts said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke within himself, saying, "This Man, if He were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches Him: For she is a sinner."

³⁷ And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee implored Him to dine with him: And He went in, and sat down to eat. ³⁸ And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner. ³⁹ And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ You fools, did not He that made that which is outside make that which is inside also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have; and behold, all things are clean to you. ⁴² But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: These you ought to have done, and not left the others undone. ⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. ⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are as graves which are not visible, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them." ⁴⁵ Then one of the lawyers answered, and said to Him, "Master, in this saying You reproach us also." ⁴⁶ And He said, "Woe to you also, you lawyers! For you load men with burdens grievous to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Woe to you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: For they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute': ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zacharias, who perished between the altar and the temple: Truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Woe to you, lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge: You did not enter in yourselves, and you hindered those that were entering in." ⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel against Him vehemently, and to provoke Him to speak of many things: ⁵⁴ Lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

⁷ He that reproves a scorner gets shame to himself: And he that rebukes a wicked man gets himself a blemish. ⁸ Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

²¹ But they held their peace, and did not answer him a word: For the king's commandment was, saying, "Do not answer him."

⁶ Do not give that which is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and tear you to pieces.

¹⁴ Moreover the Pharisees, who were covetous, also heard all these things: And they derided Him.

⁵² Then the Jews said to Him, "Now we know that You have a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, 'If anyone keeps My sayings, he shall never taste death.'

³⁰ The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He has opened my eyes. ³¹ Now we know that God does not hear sinners: But if any man is a worshiper of God, and does His will, He hears him. ³² Since the world began it has not been heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this Man were not of God, He could do nothing." ³⁴ They answered and said to him, "You were all together born in sins, and do you teach us?" And they cast him out.

⁴⁰ Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?"

²⁰ And many of them said, "He has a devil, and is mad; why give audience to Him?"

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, "What will this babbler say?" Others said, "He seems to be a herald of strange gods": Because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.

³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: And others said, "We will hear you again on this matter."

²⁵ Now when they did not agree among themselves, they departed, after that Paul spoke one word, "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, ²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people, and say, "Hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and not perceive: ²⁷ For the heart of this people is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." ' ²⁸ "Therefore let it be known to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and that they will hear it."

²¹ For since in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of preaching to save those that believe. ²² For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: ²³ But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness; ²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place; ¹² and we labor, working with our own hands: Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: We are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things to this day.

¹⁴ You shall not remove your neighbor's landmark, which they of old time have set in your inheritance, which you shall inherit in the land that the LORD your God gives you to possess it.

¹⁷ Cursed be he that removes his neighbor's landmark. And all the people shall say, "Amen.

²⁷ Yes, you overwhelm the fatherless, and you dig a pit for your friend.

⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed of it. ³ They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder blade, and my arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

⁶ They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

²⁸ Do not remove the ancient landmark, which your fathers have set.

⁵ For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor;

³ Thus says the LORD; "Execute judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: And do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.'

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

²⁷ Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

²² You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁹ Cursed be he that perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, "Amen.

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth:

⁵ "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise", says the LORD; "I will set him in safety from he that puffs at him."puffs at him; or, would ensnare him

²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

³³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: And all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. ³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry.

² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

¹ My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow your ear to my understanding: ² That you may regard discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.

¹⁷ Bow down your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge.

¹⁹ Hear, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart in the way.

³¹ And they come to you according to the coming of the people, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

⁵² Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe which is instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old."

²¹ Therefore lay aside all filthiness and superabundance of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. ²² But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. ²³ For if anyone is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: ²⁴ For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what sort of man he was. ²⁵ But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues in it, he not being a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

²⁴ He that spares his rod hates his son: But he that loves him chastens him before long.

¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not let your soul spare because of his crying.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: But a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yes, he shall give delight to your soul.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

⁵ to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

³² But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you;

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

²⁰ A wise son makes a glad father: But a foolish man despises his mother.

²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: And he that begets a wise child shall have joy of him. ²⁵ Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bore you shall rejoice.

³ Whoever loves wisdom rejoices his father: But he that keeps company with harlots spends his substance.

⁴¹ Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with My whole heart and with My whole soul.'

¹⁷ The LORD your God is mighty in the midst of you; He will save, He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over you with singing."

² Then behold, they brought to Him a man sick from the palsy, lying on a bed: And Jesus seeing their faith said to the one sick from the palsy, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."

²³ And bring here the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: ²⁴ For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to be merry.

³² It was proper that we should make merry, and be glad: For your brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.' "

¹¹ These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any food?" They answered Him, "No."

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? ²⁰ For you are our glory and joy.

⁸ For now we live, if you stand firmly fixed in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanks can we render back to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God;

¹ My little children, these things I write to you so that you do not sin. And if any man sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

⁴ I rejoiced greatly because I found out your children are walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

³ For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth. ⁴ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

⁶ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

²⁹ Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good for the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers.

⁴ neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: But rather giving of thanks.

⁴ That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

² For in many things we offend everyone. If any man does not offend in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious, comparing against the workers of iniquity. ² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. ³ Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and truly you shall be fed.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: A good understanding have all those who do His commandments: His praise endures forever.

³¹ Do not envy the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.

¹⁶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.

¹ Do not be envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

¹⁴ Happy is the man that fears always: But he that hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.

⁷ For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also various vanities: But you shall fear God.

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: For this is the whole duty of man. ¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

³¹ Then the churches had rest throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.

¹ Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without reverence of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

¹⁸ For the needy shall not always be forgotten: The expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: For the end of that man is peace.

¹⁴ So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul: When you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

¹¹ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you', said the LORD, 'thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing shall I be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

³⁵ Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great recompense of reward.

¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. ¹² When you go, your steps shall not be hampered; and when you run, you shall not stumble. ¹³ Take firm hold of instruction; do not let her go: Keep her; for she is your life. ¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, do not pass by it, turn from it, and pass away. ¹⁶ For they do not sleep, except if they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. ¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. ¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble. ²⁰ My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. ²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. ²² For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh. ²³ Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

⁶ Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

¹² Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to the words of knowledge.

²⁶ My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.

¹ Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: And whoever is deceived by it is not wise.

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has babbling? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? ³⁰ Those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives his color in the cup, when it moves itself aright. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder. ³³ Your eyes shall behold strange women, and your heart shall utter perverse things. ³⁴ Yes, you shall be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lies upon the top of a mast. ³⁵ "They have stricken me", you shall say, "and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I did not feel it: When shall I awake? I will seek it yet again."

⁷ Whoever keeps the law is a wise son: But he that is a companion of riotous men shames his father.

⁶ Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that are of heavy hearts. ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

¹¹ Woe to those that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who continue until night, till wine inflames them!

²² Woe to those that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

¹³ And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die.

⁴⁹ and begins to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;

¹³ And not many days after the younger son gathered everything together, he took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his goods with riotous living.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lasciviousness, not in strife and envying.

¹⁸ And do not be drunk with wine, in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

³ For the years past of our life may suffice for us to have worked the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revelries, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: ⁴ In which they think it is strange that you do not run with them to the same riotous excesses, speaking evil of you:

²⁰ and they shall say to the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall your poverty come as one that travels abroad, and your want as an armed man.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

¹⁷ He that loves pleasure shall be a poor man: He that loves wine and oil shall not be rich.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ and, look, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come as one that travels abroad; and your want as an armed man.

¹ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the rich valleys of those that are overcome with wine! ² Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand. ³ The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

⁵ Awake, you drunkards, and weep; and howl, all you drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

¹¹ But now I have written to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; not to eat with such an one.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

²¹ envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, as I have also told you in time past, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ You shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep My Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.

¹⁸ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not listen to them: ¹⁹ Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place; ²⁰ and they shall say to the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. ²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: So shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

¹⁶ Cursed be he that sets light by his father or his mother. And all the people shall say, "Amen.

⁸ My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother:

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake the law of your mother:

¹¹ There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

⁴ For God commanded, saying, 'Honor your father and mother': And, 'He that curses father or mother, let him die the death.' ⁵ But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or his mother, "Whatever you might be profited by me, it is a gift"; ⁶ and does not honor his father or his mother, thinking he shall be exempt.' Thus you have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

¹⁰ For Moses said, 'Honor your father and your mother'; and, 'Whoever curses father or mother, let him die the death':

²⁶ Therefore, when Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" ²⁷ Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord: For this is right. ² "Honor your father and mother"; (which is the first commandment with promise);

¹² But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? ¹³ Man knows not its price; neither is it found in the land of the living. ¹⁴ The depth said, "It is not in me: And the sea said, "It is not with me. ¹⁵ It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. ¹⁶ It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. ¹⁷ The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: And the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold. ¹⁸ No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: For the price of wisdom is above rubies. ¹⁹ The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

⁷² The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver.

¹²⁷ Therefore I love Your commandments above gold; yes, above fine gold.

² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;

⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Do not forsake, and she shall preserve you: Love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And choosing to get understanding rather than silver!

¹⁶ For what reason is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has no heart toward it?

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

¹ "Ho, everyone who thirsts, all of you come to the waters, and he who has no money; come all of you, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

⁴⁴ Again, the kingdom of heaven is likened to treasure hid in a field; which when a man has found it, he hides it, and out of joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field.

⁴⁶ Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he gains the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²³ Except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that chains and afflictions await me.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted as losses for Christ. ⁸ Yes without doubt, and I count all things as loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: For whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as dung, that I may win Christ,

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: For he had respect for the recompense of the reward.

¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye-salve, that you may see.

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they did not love their lives to the death.

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, 'Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.' "

¹ Now the days of David drew near that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, ² I go the way of all the earth: Be you strong therefore, and show yourself a man; ³ and keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do, and wherever you turn yourself:

⁹ Now therefore hold him not guiltless: For you are a wise man, and know what you ought to do to him; but his hoar head bring you down to the grave with blood.

¹⁵ My son, if your heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. ¹⁶ Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when your lips speak right things.

¹⁹ And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? Yet he shall have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity.

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather beseech you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Yes, brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: Refresh my bowels in the Lord.

⁹ And Jabez was more honorable than his brothers: And his mother called his name Jabez, saying, "Because I bore him with sorrow." ¹⁰ And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, "Oh that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border, and that Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me!" And God granted him that which he requested.

²⁵ A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.

³¹ And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: And the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of His father David: ³³ And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end."

⁴⁰ and entered into the house of Zacharias, and greeted Elisabeth. ⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elisabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit: ⁴² And she spoke out with a loud voice, and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. ⁴³ And how is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? ⁴⁴ For see, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. ⁴⁵ And blessed is she who believed: For there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord." ⁴⁶ Then Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, ⁴⁷ and my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

⁵⁸ And her neighbors and her cousins heard how the Lord had shown great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

²⁷ And it came to pass, as He spoke these things, a certain woman from the multitude lifted up her voice, and said to Him, "Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the nipples which You have sucked." ²⁸ But He said, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the Word of God, and keep it."

⁵ And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

⁴³ Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

² Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, and that seek Him with the whole heart.

⁹ BETH: With what shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed to act according to Your word. ¹⁰ With my whole heart I have sought You: O let me not wander from Your commandments. ¹¹ I have hid Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

¹ My son, do not forget my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:

⁴ He also taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart retain my words: Keep my commandments, and live.

²³ Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

²⁵ Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. ²⁶ Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. ²⁷ Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left: Remove your foot from evil.

⁹ Who is wise? He shall understand these things. Who is prudent? He shall know them. For the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: But the transgressors shall stumble and fall in them.

³⁷ He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. ³⁸ And he who does not take up his cross, and follow after Me, is not worthy of Me.

²⁶ "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

¹⁴ For the love of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that if One died for all, then all were dead: ¹⁵ And that He died for all, that those who live should no longer live to themselves, but to Him which died for them, and rose again.

⁵ And this they did, not just as we hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God.

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

¹⁹ We also have a more sure word of prophecy; which you do well that you take heed of, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the day star arise in your hearts:

¹⁴ The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: He that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall in it.

⁴ And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah. ⁵ And the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and said to her, "Entice him, and see in what his great strength lies, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: And we will give you, every one of us, eleven hundred pieces of silver." ⁶ And Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me, I implore you, in what your great strength lies, and with what you might be bound to afflict you." ⁷ And Samson said to her, "If they bind me with seven green cords that were never dried, then I shall be weak, and be as another man." ⁸ Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green cords which had not been dried, and she bound him with them. ⁹ Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he broke the cords, as a thread of wick is broken when it touches the fire. So his strength was not known. ¹⁰ And Delilah said to Samson, "Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies: Now tell me, I implore you, with what you might be bound." ¹¹ And he said to her, "If they bind me tight with new ropes that were never used, then I shall be weak, and be as another man." ¹² Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he broke them from off his arms like a thread. ¹³ And Delilah said to Samson, "Till now you have mocked me, and told me lies: Tell me with what you might be bound." And he said to her, "If you weave the seven locks of my head with the web." ¹⁴ And she fastened it with the pin, and said to him, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web. ¹⁵ And she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you', when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me in what your great strength lies." ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death; ¹⁷ that he told her all his heart, and said to her, "A razor has not come upon my head; for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother's womb: If I am shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man." ¹⁸ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up this once, for he has showed me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and brought money in their hand. ¹⁹ And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. ²⁰ And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, "I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself." And he did not know that the LORD had departed from him. ²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house. ²² However, the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

¹⁶ To deliver you from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flatters with her words; ¹⁷ that forsakes the guide of her youth, and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ For her house inclines to death, and her paths to the dead. ¹⁹ None that go to her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.

¹² Now she is outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner).

²² He immediately goes after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life. ²⁴ Therefore hearken to me now, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth. ²⁵ Do not let your heart decline to her ways, do not go astray in her paths. ²⁶ For she has cast down many wounded: Yes, many strong men have been slain by her. ²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

²⁶ And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as fetters: Whoever pleases God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.

² "Lift up your eyes to the high places, and see where you have not been lain with. In the road you have sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness.

¹¹ Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.

⁸ Nor let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.

¹ And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying to me, "Come here; I will show you the judgment of the great whore that sits upon many waters: ² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication."

¹² His eyes shall be red with wine, and His teeth white with milk.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.

²⁸ Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Mark you now when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: Have I not commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant.

¹⁶ And they went out at noon. But Benhadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him. ¹⁷ And the young men of the princes of the provinces went out first; and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, "There are men come out of Samaria. ¹⁸ And he said, "Whether they be come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they be come out for war, take them alive. ¹⁹ So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them. ²⁰ And they slew every one his man: And the Syrians fled; and Israel pursued them: And Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the horsemen. ²¹ And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter. ²² And the prophet came to the king of Israel, and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do: For at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.

²¹ For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: And drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

⁷ But they have also erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up by wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. ⁸ For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

⁴⁹ and begins to smite his fellow-servants, and to eat and drink with the drunken; ⁵⁰ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour that he is not aware of,

⁴⁵ But then, if that servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming'; and begins to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and be drunk; ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

²¹ And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He pours out of the same: But its dregs, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

² She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine; she has also furnished her table.

⁶ that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

² And it came to pass in an evening, that David arose from off his bed, and walked on the roof of the king's house: And from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look on.

¹ Why, Job, I implore you, hear my speeches, and listen to all my words.

³⁷ Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; and You vivify me in Your way.

²⁵ Do not lust after her beauty in your heart; neither let her take you with her eyelids.

²⁸ But I say to you that whoever looks upon a woman, to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. ²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell. ³⁰ And if your right hand causes you to offend, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body be cast into hell.

⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out: It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to be cast into hell fire having two eyes:

¹² For every man cast down his rod, and they became serpents: But Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods.

¹⁶ He shall suck the poison of asps: The viper's tongue shall slay him.

¹¹ and at the end you mourn, when your flesh and your body are consumed,

⁸ He that digs a pit shall fall into it; and whoever breaks a hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

³ The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

⁵ They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: He who eats of their eggs dies, and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

¹⁷ "For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you", said the LORD.

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they hide from My sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: So that those which would pass from this place to you cannot; neither can those which would come from that place pass to us.'

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

³² Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³³ And they made their father drink wine that night: And the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁴ And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father: Let us make him drink wine this night also; and you go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³⁵ And they made their father drink wine that night also: And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁶ Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. ³⁷ And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Moab: The same is the father of the Moabites to this day. ³⁸ And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Benammi: The same is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.

¹² Those who sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

¹² To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaks froward things;

⁵ Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

³³ And blessed be your advice, and blessed be you, which have kept me from coming to shed blood this day, and from avenging myself with my own hand. ³⁴ For surely, as the LORD God of Israel lives, which has kept me back from hurting you, unless you had hurried and come to meet me, surely there would not have been left to Nabal anything that pisses against the wall by the morning light." ³⁵ So David received from her hand that which she had brought him, and said to her, "Go up in peace to your house; see, I have hearkened to your voice, and have accepted your person." ³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light. ³⁷ But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone. ³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.

¹⁶ And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread out widely upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah. ¹⁷ And David smote them from the twilight even until the evening of the next day: And not a man of them escaped there, except four hundred young men, which rode upon camels, and fled.

⁹ And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.

³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,

¹⁹ and it come to pass, when he hears the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, "I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of my heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:

¹¹ As a dog returns to his vomit, so a fool returns to his folly.

²² Though you pound a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet his foolishness will not depart from him.

¹² "Come all of you", they say, "I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow shall be like today, and much more abundant."

³ O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? You have stricken them, but they have not grieved; You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: They have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God.

³² If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me, if the dead do not rise? "Let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we die." ³³ Do not be deceived: "Evil communications corrupt good manners." ³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.

¹⁹ Who being past feeling have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

²² But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog returned to his own vomit again"; and, "the hog that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."
