⁷ The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

¹ Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear the LORD: And the creditor is come to take to him my two sons to be servants.

⁴ There were also that said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that on our lands and vineyards. ⁵ Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children: And, see, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought to bondage already: Neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: But he that honors Him has mercy on the poor.

²³ The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

²² Do not rob the poor, because he is poor: Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

² And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.

⁶ Thus says the LORD; "For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes;

¹ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, "Bring forth, and let us drink."

¹¹ Therefore, as much as your treading is upon the poor, and you take burdens of wheat from him: You have built houses of hewn stone, but you shall not dwell in them; you have planted pleasant vineyards, but you shall not drink wine from them. ¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their rights.

⁴ Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?"

²⁵ But since he did not have it to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.
