⁷ All the brothers of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him? He pursues them with words, yet they are absent from him.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my grief; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

⁸ You have put my acquaintance far away from me; You have made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

¹⁸ You have put lover and friend far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.

²⁰ The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: But the rich has many friends.

¹⁵ Now there was a poor wise man found in it, and he delivered the city by his wisdom; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then I said, "Wisdom is better than strength: Nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

³⁸ Then he cried out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." ³⁹ And those who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: But he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." ⁴⁰ Now Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be brought to Him: And when he had come near, He asked him,

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says to them, "Depart in peace, be warmed and filled"; but you do not give them those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's good life, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his inner heart of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
