¹³ Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

¹⁷ And he said to David, "You are more righteous than I: For you have rewarded me good, whereas I have rewarded you evil.

¹ Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of the LORD. And with which shall I make the atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the LORD? ⁴ And the Gibeonites said to him, "We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shall you kill any man in Israel. And he said, "What you shall say, "that will I do for you. ⁵ And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel, ⁶ let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, "I will give them. ⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸ But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite: ⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: And they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, on the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest. ¹⁰ And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped on them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the wild beasts of the field by night. ¹¹ And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done. ¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa: ¹³ And he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan; and they gathered the bones of those that were hanged. ¹⁴ And the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulcher of Kish his father: And they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was entreated for the land.

¹² They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.

²⁰ Those that render evil for good are also my adversaries; because I follow the thing that is good.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: Neither was it he who hated me that magnified himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: ¹³ But it was you, a man my equal, my guide, and my acquaintance. ¹⁴ We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company. ¹⁵ Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: For wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: But I give myself to prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. ⁶ Set a wicked man over him: And let Satan stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: And let his prayer become sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: Neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, and to turn away Your wrath from them. ²¹ Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle.

⁵ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hung himself.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

¹⁷ Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honestly in the sight of all men.

¹⁵ See that no one renders evil for evil to any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

⁹ Not rendering evil for evil, or returning reproach for reproach: But on the contrary blessing; knowing that you are called to this, that you should inherit a blessing.
