¹ The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; ² to know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; ³ to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; ⁴ to give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. ⁵ A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain to wise counsels: ⁶ To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. ⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction. ⁸ My son, hear the instruction of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother: ⁹ For they shall be an ornament of grace to your head, and necklaces around your neck. ¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. ¹¹ If they say, "Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood, let us lurk privately for the innocent without cause: ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: ¹³ We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: ¹⁴ Cast in your lot among us; let us all have one purse": ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives. ¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of its owners. ²⁰ Wisdom cries outside; she utters her voice in the streets: ²¹ She cries in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: In the city she utters her words, saying, ²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make my words known to you. ²⁴ Because I have called, and you refused; I have outstretched my hand, and no man regarded; ²⁵ but you have disregarded all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof: ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes; ²⁷ when your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you. ²⁸ Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: ²⁹ For they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. ³² For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. ³³ But whoever hearkens to me shall dwell safely, and shall be at ease from fear of evil.

²⁴ And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her: And she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon: And the LORD loved him. ²⁵ And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

¹² Then sat Solomon on the throne of David his father; and his kingdom was established greatly.

³¹ For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: And his fame was in all nations all around. ³² And he spoke three thousand proverbs: And his songs were a thousand and five.

⁹ Behold, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies all around: For his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

⁵ And of all my sons, (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

²⁸ And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honor: And Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father: But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹ These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

¹ The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

⁹ And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

²⁵ These things I have spoken to you in proverbs: But the time comes, when I shall no longer speak to you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly about the Father.

⁵ Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should do so in the land where you go to possess it. ⁶ Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, "Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.

⁹ Give therefore your servant an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and bad: For who is able to judge this your so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life; neither have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies; but have asked for yourself understanding to discern judgment; ¹² behold, I have done according to your words: Lo, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like to you.

⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Do not forsake, and she shall preserve you: Love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding.

⁴ Say to wisdom, "You are my sister"; and call understanding your kinswoman:

⁵ O you simple, understand wisdom: And, you fools, be of an understanding heart.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And choosing to get understanding rather than silver!

¹⁶ For what reason is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has no heart toward it?

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the Holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.

²⁸ And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: For they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do judgment.

²² Receive, I implore you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you; ² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: He is a buckler shield to those that walk uprightly. ⁸ He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of His saints. ⁹ Then you shall understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. ¹¹ For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

⁷ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

¹¹ Come, you children, listen to me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

⁹ BETH: With what shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed to act according to Your word.

¹³⁰ The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make my words known to you.

¹⁰ When wisdom enters into your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul; ¹¹ discretion shall preserve you, understanding shall keep you:

²¹ My son, do not let them depart from your eyes: Keep sound wisdom and discretion:

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, ⁸ passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, ⁹ in the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: ¹⁰ And behold, there met him a woman with the attire of a harlot, and subtle of heart. ¹¹ (She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not abide in her house: ¹² Now she is outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner). ¹³ So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him, ¹⁴ I have peace offerings with me; this day I have paid my vows. ¹⁵ Therefore I came forth to meet you, diligently to seek your face, and I have found you. ¹⁶ I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. ¹⁷ I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. ¹⁸ Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: Let us solace ourselves with loves. ¹⁹ For the goodman is not at home, he has gone on a long journey: ²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him, and will come home on the day appointed. ²¹ With her very pleasing speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. ²² He immediately goes after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life. ²⁴ Therefore hearken to me now, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

¹² I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

¹⁷ I love those who love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

³² Now therefore hearken to me, O you children: For blessed are those that keep my ways.

⁴ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here": As for him that wants understanding, she says to him, ⁵ "Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. ⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

⁸ And a highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err in it.

²² Flee also youthful lusts: But follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

⁶ Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober minded.

³² And David said to Abigail, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent you to meet me this day: ³³ And blessed be your advice, and blessed be you, which have kept me from coming to shed blood this day, and from avenging myself with my own hand.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, "Are you made of the king's counsel? Forbear; why should you be smitten? Then the prophet declined, and said, "I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.

¹⁰ Therefore listen to me you men of understanding: Far be it from God, that He should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁶ If now you have understanding, hear this: Listen to the voice of my words.

³⁴ Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man listen to me.

⁹⁸ Through Your commandments You have made me wiser than my enemies: For they are ever with me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers: For Your testimonies are my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the ancients, because I keep Your precepts.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹ Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge: But he that hates reproof is brutish.

¹⁵ I speak as to wise men; judge for yourselves what I say.

⁸ With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

⁴ I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

² I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:

¹¹ The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

¹⁰ And the disciples came, and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?" ¹¹ He answered and said to them, "Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whoever has, to him more shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: But whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him. ¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables: Because seeing they do not see; and hearing they do not hear, neither do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive: ¹⁵ For this people's heart is waxed over, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.' ¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they see: And your ears, for they hear. ¹⁷ For truly I say to you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.

³⁴ Jesus spoke all these things to the multitudes in parables; and He did not speak to them without a parable: ³⁵ That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

⁵¹ Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord." ⁵² Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe which is instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old."

¹¹ And He said to them, "To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: But to those that are outside, all these things are done in parables:

³⁴ But He did not speak to them without a parable: And when they were alone, He expounded all things to His disciples.

³⁰ And Philip ran over to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you read?" ³¹ And he said, "How can I, unless some man should guide me?" And he desired that Philip would come up and sit with him.

¹⁴ But solid food belongs to those that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

¹⁶ as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things that are hard to be understood, which those who are unlearned and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, to their own destruction.

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: A good understanding have all those who do His commandments: His praise endures forever.

²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? And the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

²⁹ For they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof.

¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: And the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

⁵ A fool despises his father's instruction: But he that regards reproof is prudent.

³³ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.

² A fool has no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: For this is the whole duty of man.

¹⁸ He that believes in Him is not condemned: But he that does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. ²¹ But he who does truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are worked in God."

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

³ You shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep My Sabbaths: I am the LORD your God.

¹⁸ If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not listen to them: ¹⁹ Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place; ²⁰ and they shall say to the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. ²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: So shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

²⁵ If one man sins against another, the judge shall judge him: But if a man sins against the LORD, who shall earnestly pray for him?" Nevertheless they did not hearken to the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.

¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you;

¹ My son, do not forget my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine, do not forsake my law. ³ For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He also taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart retain my words: Keep my commandments, and live.

¹ My son, attend to my wisdom, and bow your ear to my understanding: ² That you may regard discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake the law of your mother:

¹ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with you.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.

¹ The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

² Then behold, they brought to Him a man sick from the palsy, lying on a bed: And Jesus seeing their faith said to the one sick from the palsy, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."

²² But Jesus turned himself around, and when He saw her, He said, "Daughter, be of good comfort; your faith has made you whole." And the woman was made whole from that hour.

⁵ when I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded is in you also.

⁴² And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in clothing of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

²² So shall they be life to your soul, and grace to your neck.

⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory she shall deliver to you.

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake the law of your mother: ²¹ Bind them continually upon your heart, and tie them around your neck.

¹⁰ Your cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, your neck with chains of gold.

⁹ You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; you have ravished my heart with one look of your eyes, with one chain of your necklace.

¹⁹ the chains, and the bracelets, and the lower-face veils,

¹¹ I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck.

⁷ The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spoke, and said to the wise men of Babylon, "Whoever shall read this writing, and show me the interpretation of it, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold around his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

¹⁶ And I have heard of you, that you can make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: Now if you can read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation of it, you shall be clothed with scarlet and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom."

²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

⁹ In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with bashfulness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly apparel; ¹⁰ (which is proper for women professing godliness), but with good works.

³ Whose adorning, let it not be that outward adornment of braiding the hair, and of wearing gold, or of putting on apparel; ⁴ but let it be the hidden woman of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great value in the sight of God.

⁷ And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, "Lie with me." ⁸ But he refused, and said to his master's wife, "Behold, my master does not have knowledge of what is in the house with me, and he has committed all that he has to my hand; ⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me except you, because you are his wife: How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not hearken to her, to lie by her, or to be with her. ¹¹ And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and none of the men of the house were inside. ¹² And she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me": And he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got himself out. ¹³ And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled forth,

⁸ you shall not consent to him, nor listen to him; neither shall your eye pity him, neither shall you spare, neither shall you conceal him:

¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death; ¹⁷ that he told her all his heart, and said to her, "A razor has not come upon my head; for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother's womb: If I am shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man." ¹⁸ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up this once, for he has showed me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and brought money in their hand. ¹⁹ And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. ²⁰ And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, "I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself." And he did not know that the LORD had departed from him. ²¹ But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

¹ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.ungodly; or, wicked

¹⁸ When you saw a thief, then you consented with him, and have been partaker with adulterers.

²¹ With her very pleasing speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. ²² He immediately goes after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; ²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life.

²⁰ He that walks with wise men shall be wise: But a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²⁹ A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good.

¹⁹ He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets: Therefore do not engage with him that flatters with his lips.

¹⁸ For those that are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

¹¹ And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

⁸ He sits in the lurking places of the villages: In the secret places he murders the innocent: His eyes are privately set against the poor. ⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: He lies in wait to catch the poor: He does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net. ¹⁰ He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

¹² as a lion that is voracious of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.

⁷ For without cause they have hid their net in a pit for me, and without cause they have dug for my soul.

⁶ They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil matter: They commune in discourse of laying snares privately; they say, "Who shall see them? ⁶ They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: Both the inward thought of every one of them, and the heart, is deep.

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives.

⁶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

¹⁴ There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.

²⁶ 'For among My people are found wicked men: They lay wait, as he who sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and did not I know that they had devised devices against me, saying, 'Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may not be remembered anymore.'

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words." ¹⁹ "Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of those who contend with me. ²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, and to turn away Your wrath from them.

² The good man has perished out of the earth: And there is none upright among men: They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man, his brother, with a net.good; or, godly, or, merciful

³ Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled together at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and consulted that they might take Jesus through cunning, and kill Him.

²⁵ But this came to pass, that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'

¹⁵ Now you, therefore, together with the council, signify to the chief captain that he bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: And we are ready to kill him whenever he comes near."

³ and desired a favor against him, that he would send him to Jerusalem, while they are laying in wait by the road to kill him.

³⁰ But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed on them: And they perished from among the congregation.

¹⁰ And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: And they became a sign.

⁹ For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is truly wickedness; their throat is an open sepulcher; they flatter with their tongue.

¹ A Psalm of David. I will cry to You, O LORD my rock; be not silent to me: Lest, if You are silent to me, I become like those that go down into the pit.

²⁵ Let them not say in their hearts, "Ah, so we have our desire": Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up."

¹ To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God: For man would swallow me up; he oppresses me fighting daily. ² My enemies would daily swallow me up: For they are many that fight against me, O most High.

³ He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.

³ Then they would have swallowed us up alive when their wrath was kindled against us;

⁷ Hear me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails: Do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those that go down into the pit.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicates, he has cast me out.

⁵ The LORD was as an enemy: He has swallowed up Israel, He has swallowed up all her palaces: He has destroyed His strongholds, and has increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: They hiss and gnash the teeth: They say, "We have swallowed her up: Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it."

² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron."

¹³ "Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they have used deceit"; "the poison of asps is under their lips":

² Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed of it. ³ They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

¹⁹ So are the ways of everyone that is greedy of gain; which takes away the life of its owners.

¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped."

¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: Was not this known to me?" said the LORD. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

¹² The lion tore in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with shred.

⁹ 'The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former', says the LORD of hosts: 'And in this place I will give peace', says the LORD of hosts."

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: For a man's life does not subsist in the abundance of the things which he possesses."

⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while coveting after, some have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁹ "And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, ¹⁰ standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.' ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buys their merchandise anymore: ¹² The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all fragrant wood, and all sorts of ivory vessels, and all sorts of most precious wood vessels, and of brass, and iron, and marble, ¹³ and cinnamon, and incense, and fragrant ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. ¹⁴ And the fruits that your soul lusted after have departed from you, and all things which were dainty and gorgeous have departed from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

¹⁰¹ I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep Your word.

¹⁴ Do not enter into the path of the wicked, and do not go in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, do not pass by it, turn from it, and pass away.

²⁷ Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left: Remove your foot from evil.

⁸ Remove your way far from her, and do not come near the door of her house:

⁶ Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

¹⁰ Thus says the LORD to this people, "Thus they have loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD does not accept them; He will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins."

¹⁷ Therefore "Come out from among them, and be separate, says the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you",

¹⁶ For they do not sleep, except if they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.)

¹¹ who teaches us more than the wild beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

²³ till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare, and does not know that it is for his life.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib: But Israel does not know, my people do not consider.

⁷ Yes, the stork in heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but My people do not know the judgment of the LORD.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.

¹⁴ Behold, he travails with iniquity, and has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. ¹⁵ He made a pit, and dug it, and has fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own scalp.

¹⁶ The LORD is known by the judgment which He executes: The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

²³ But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.

²² His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins. ²³ He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹⁷ "Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant." ¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

¹⁷ A man that does violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man hold him up.

⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood." And they said, "What is that to us? You see to that." ⁵ Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hung himself.

¹¹ And Joab said to the man that told him, And behold, you saw him, and why did you not smite him there to the ground? And I would have given you ten shekels of silver, and a girdle. ¹² And the man said to Joab, "Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king's son: For in our hearing the king charged you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, "Beware that none touch the young man Absalom. ¹³ Otherwise I should have worked falsehood against my own life: For there is no matter hid from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against me.

²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: But, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well? ²² And he said, "All is well. My master has sent me, saying, "Behold, even now there be come to me from Mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: Give them, I implore you, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments. ²³ And Naaman said, "Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them on two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: And he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, "From where come you, Gehazi? And he said, "Your servant went no where. ²⁶ And he said to him, "Went not my heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall stick to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

³⁹ if I have eaten its fruits without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

²⁷ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house; but he that hates gifts shall live.

³ Do not be desirous of his dainties: For they are deceitful meat. ⁴ Do not labor to be rich: Cease out of your own wisdom.

¹³ There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners of them to their hurt.

¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it. ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; "They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah my brother! Or, Ah sister!' They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah lord! Or, Ah his glory!' ¹⁹ He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

¹ Woe to those that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: So they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.oppress; or, defraud ³ Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, against this family I devise an evil, from which you shall not remove your necks; neither shall you go haughtily: For this time is evil.

¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us." ¹² Therefore for your sake Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil!

¹⁹ saying, "Give me this power also, that whoever I lay hands on, he may receive the Holy Spirit." ²⁰ But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

³ not given to wine, doesn't strike others, not greedy of filthy profit; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: They have a heart exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ but was rebuked for his iniquity: The mute donkey speaking with a man's voice hindered the madness of the prophet.

¹ Does not wisdom cry out? And understanding put forth her voice? ² She stands in the top of high places, by the trailside in the places of the paths. ³ She cries out at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the in coming at the doors. ⁴ "To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. ⁵ O you simple, understand wisdom: And, you fools, be of an understanding heart.

³ She has sent forth her maidens: She cries upon the highest places of the city,

⁵⁴ And when He had come into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, "How does this Man have this wisdom, and these mighty works?

⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute':

³⁷ On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If any man thirsts, let him come to Me, and drink.

²⁴ but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

³⁰ But by reason of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who of God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

³ in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

²⁷ What I tell you in darkness, that speak in light: And what you hear in the ear, that preach upon the housetops.

² And large multitudes were gathered together to Him, therefore He went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always assemble; and in secret I have said nothing.

²⁰ "Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this Life."

³ And Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD God of the Hebrews, 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

²⁸ And the LORD said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My laws?

²⁷ how long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water?

⁸ Understand, you brutish among the people: And you fools, when will you be wise?

⁴ to give subtlety to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

²⁹ For they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

³⁴ Surely He scorns the scorners: But He gives grace to the lowly.

¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

¹⁶ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here": And as for him that wants understanding, she says to him,

⁶ A scorner seeks wisdom, and does not find it: But knowledge is easy to him that understands.

¹² A scorner does not love one that reproves him: Neither will he go to the wise.

²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

¹¹ When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: And when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

¹³ But go and learn what this means: 'I will have mercy, and not sacrifice': For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: And you shall find rest for your souls. ³⁰ For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."

¹⁷ Then Jesus answered and said, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I endure you? Bring him here to Me."

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets, and stone those which are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁴² saying, "If you had known, even you, at least in this day, the things which relate to your peace! But now they are hid from your eyes.

²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³ Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the last days, walking after their own lusts,

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let him that hears say, "Come." And let him that is thirsty come. And whoever is willing, let him take the water of life freely.

¹ David's Psalm of praise. I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever.

²⁵ but you have disregarded all my counsel, and would have none of my reproof:

³⁰ They would have none of my counsel: They despised all my reproof.

²³ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

¹⁷ He is in the way of life that keeps instruction: But he that refuses reproof errs.

¹ He, that often being reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

¹⁵ until the Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.

⁸ Rain down, you heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: Let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.

¹ "Ho, everyone who thirsts, all of you come to the waters, and he who has no money; come all of you, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come to Me: Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

¹⁴ 'Turn, O backsliding children', said the LORD; 'for I am married to you: And I will take one of you from a city, and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

²⁷ Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. ²⁸ Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²⁹ Yet the house of Israel said, 'The way of the LORD is not equal.' O house of Israel, are not My ways equal? Are not your ways unequal? ³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.

¹¹ Say to them, 'As I live', said the Lord GOD, 'I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: Turn yourself, turn from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?'

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

²⁸ And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: And they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

¹³ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

³⁶ What manner of saying is this that He said, 'You shall seek Me, and shall not find Me: And where I am, there you cannot come'?" ³⁷ On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If any man thirsts, let him come to Me, and drink.

³⁶ "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this same Jesus, whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ." ³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" ³⁸ Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹ Therefore repent, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord shall come;

²⁰ But brought word first to those of Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy for repentance.

¹⁶ So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth. ¹⁷ Because you say, 'I am rich, and am increased with goods, and have need of nothing'; but do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked: ¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye-salve, that you may see. ¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.

²⁰ You shall hide them in the secret of Your presence from the pride of man: You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is My hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at My rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: Their fish stinks, because there is no water, and die for thirst.

¹² Therefore I will number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter: Because when I called, you did not answer; when I spoke, you did not hear; but did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I do not delight."

⁴ I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none answered; when I spoke, they did not hear: But they did evil before My eyes, and chose that in which I did not delight.

¹³ And now, because you have done all these works", said the LORD, "and I spoke to you, rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear; and I called you, but you did not answer;

¹⁸ Therefore I will also deal in fury: My eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: And though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, yet I will not hear them."

¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in His Spirit by the former prophets: Therefore a great wrath came from the LORD of hosts.

⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: ⁶ And the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and slew them.

³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets, and stone those which are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! ³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate.

³⁰ by stretching forth Your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of Your holy Child Jesus."

²¹ But to Israel he said, "All day long I have stretched forth My hands to a disobedient and contrary people."

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if those who refused 'Him that spoke on earth' did not escape, much more we shall not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven: ²⁶ Whose voice then shook the earth: But now He has promised, saying, "Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven."

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

¹¹ But My people would not hearken to My voice; and Israel would have none of Me.

¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the Most High:

³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, not being baptized by him.

¹⁴ Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.

⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: The LORD shall have them in derision.

¹³ The Lord shall laugh at him: For He sees that his day is coming.

¹⁵ Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴ For I say to you, That none of those men who were called shall taste of my supper.' "

⁹ Before your pots can feel the burning thorn branches, He shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in His wrath.

²² Let their table become a snare before them: And that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. ²³ Let their eyes be darkened, that they do not see; and make their loins continually to shake. ²⁴ Pour out Your indignation upon them, and let Your wrathful anger take hold of them. ²⁵ Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. ²⁶ For they persecute him whom You have smitten; and they speak to the grief of those whom You have wounded. ²⁷ Add iniquity to their iniquity: And do not let them come into Your righteousness. ²⁸ Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: But the desire of the righteous shall be granted. ²⁵ As the whirlwind passes, so is the wicked no more: But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: The LORD has His way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

²³ But woe to those who are with child, and to those who breastfeed in those days! For there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. ²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: And Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ²⁵ And there shall be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; ²⁶ men's hearts failing them from fear, and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth: For the powers of heaven shall be shaken.

³⁴ Also take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with gluttony, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you when unaware. ³⁵ For it shall come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.

⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: ¹⁷ For the great day of His wrath has come; and who shall be able to stand?"

³ And the LORD said, "My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: Yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years."

¹⁸ And you shall cry out in that day because of your king which you have chosen for yourselves; and the LORD will not hear you in that day."

⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?

¹² There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.

⁴¹ They cried, but there was none to save them: Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.

³⁴ When He slew them, then they sought Him: And they returned and inquired early after God. ³⁵ And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer. ³⁶ Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, and they lied to Him with their tongues.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: Your hands are full of blood.

¹¹ Therefore thus says the LORD, "Behold, I will bring evil on them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry to Me, I will not listen to them.

¹² When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: But I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence."

¹⁵ I will go and return to My place, until they acknowledge their offense, and seek My face: In their affliction they will seek Me early."

⁴ Then they shall cry to the LORD, but He will not hear them: He will even hide His face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves badly in their doings.

¹³ Therefore it has come to pass, that as He cried out, and they would not hear; so they cried out, and I would not hear", says the LORD of hosts:

²² Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name? And in Your name have cast out devils? And in Your name done many wonderful works?' ²³ And then I will profess to them, 'I never knew you: Depart from me, you that work iniquity.'

¹⁰ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage: And the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.' ¹² But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'

²⁵ When once the Master of the house is risen up, and has shut the door, and you begin to stand outside, and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us'; and He shall answer and say to you, 'I do not know you, nor what place you belong': ²⁶ Then you shall begin to say, 'We have eaten and drank in Your presence, and You have taught in our streets.' ²⁷ But He shall say, 'I tell you, I do not know you, nor what place you belong; depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.' ²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts.

¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What have you to do with declaring My statutes, or should you take My covenant in your mouth? ¹⁷ Seeing you hate instruction, and cast My words behind you.

¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: The women come, and set them on fire: For it is a people of no understanding: Therefore He that made them will not have mercy on them, and He that formed them will show them no favor.

⁹ That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: ¹⁰ Which say to the seers, "See not"; and to the prophets, "Do not prophesy to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceits: ¹¹ Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us." ¹² Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, "Because you despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely on them:

⁴² But one thing is necessary: And Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers: ⁵³ Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it." ⁵⁴ When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed upon him with their teeth.

²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

¹¹¹ I have taken Your testimonies as a heritage forever: For they are the rejoicing of my heart.

¹⁷³ Let Your hand help me; for I have chosen Your precepts.

⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁸ But they all in one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a piece of ground, and I really need to go and see it: I beseech you to have me excused.' ¹⁹ And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them: I beseech you to have me excused.' ²⁰ Yet another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

¹⁴ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: And a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

⁸ He that sows iniquity shall reap vanity: And the rod of his anger shall fail.

¹⁰ Say to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: For they shall eat the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

¹⁹ Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backslidings shall reprove you: Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that My fear is not in you", said the Lord GOD of hosts.

¹⁹ Hear, O earth: Behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to My words, nor to My law, but rejected it.

⁷ Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: For whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

¹⁵ But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: You are waxen fat, you are grown thick, you are covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. ¹⁶ They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. ¹⁷ They sacrificed to devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. ¹⁸ Of the Rock that begat you you are unmindful, and have forgotten God that formed you. ¹⁹ And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. ²⁰ And he said, "I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith. ²¹ They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: And I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. ²² For a fire is kindled in my anger, and shall burn to the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. ²³ I will heap mischiefs on them; I will spend my arrows on them. ²⁴ They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts on them, with the poison of dragons, of the dust. ²⁵ The sword outside, and terror inside, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. ²⁶ I said, "I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men: ²⁷ Were it not that I feared the wrath of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves strangely, and lest they should say, "Our hand is high, and the LORD has not done all this. ²⁸ For they are a nation void of counsel, neither is there any understanding in them. ²⁹ O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end! ³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up? ³¹ For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges. ³² For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: Their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter: ³³ Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps. ³⁴ Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures? ³⁵ To me belongs vengeance and recompense; their foot shall slide in due time: For the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. ³⁶ For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he sees that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left. ³⁷ And he shall say, "Where are their gods, their rock in whom they trusted, ³⁸ which ate the fat of their sacrifices, and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you, and be your protection. ³⁹ See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: Neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. ⁴⁰ For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, "I live forever. ⁴¹ If I whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward those that hate me. ⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges on the enemy. ⁴³ Rejoice, O you nations, with his people: For he will avenge the blood of his servants, and will render vengeance to his adversaries, and will be merciful to his land, and to his people. ⁴⁴ And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

⁶ A brutish man does not know; neither does a fool understand this. ⁷ When the wicked spring up as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever:

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: All those that hate me love death."

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed. ¹² Therefore, behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will send to him wanderers, who shall cause him to wander, and shall empty his vessels, and break their bottles.

¹⁶ Moreover He spoke a parable to them, saying, "The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have no room where to stow my fruits?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will stow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?' ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: ²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith: But if any man draws back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him." ³⁹ But we are not of those who draw back to perdition; but of those that believe to the saving of the soul.

⁸ But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards, and not sons.

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him that speaks. For if those who refused 'Him that spoke on earth' did not escape, much more we shall not escape, if we turn away from Him that speaks from heaven:

⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

¹² What man is he that fears the LORD? He shall teach him in the way that He shall choose. ¹³ His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

¹³ Oh, that My people had hearkened to Me, and Israel had walked in My ways!

⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: His heart is stable, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

²¹ My son, do not let them depart from your eyes: Keep sound wisdom and discretion: ²² So shall they be life to your soul, and grace to your neck. ²³ Then you shall walk in your way safely, and your foot shall not stumble. ²⁴ When you lie down, you shall not be afraid: Yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.

³² Now therefore hearken to me, O you children: For blessed are those that keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise, and do not refuse it. ³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

¹¹ For by me your days shall be multiplied, and the years of your life shall be increased.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: And his children shall have a place of refuge.

³ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You: Because he trusts in You.

¹⁸ O that you had listened to My commandments! Then had your peace been as a river, and your righteousness as the waves of the sea:

³ Incline your ear, and come to Me: Hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁵ While he still spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: And behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear Him."

⁹ But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified: For these things must first come to pass; but the end is not immediately."

¹⁹ In your patience you possess your souls.

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: ²⁸ And I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. ²⁹ My Father, which gave them to Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ As it is written, "For Your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." ³⁷ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁵ who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.
