³⁵ And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men: But only the word that I shall speak to you, that you shall speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

⁵ And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak.

¹² And he answered and said, "Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD has put in my mouth?

¹⁶ And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Go again to Balak, and say thus.

²⁶ But Balaam answered and said to Balak, "Told not I you, saying, "All that the LORD speaks, that I must do?

¹³ if Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of my own mind; but what the LORD said, "that will I speak?

⁵ And said to him, "Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways: Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations." ⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." And Samuel prayed to the LORD. ⁷ And the LORD said to Samuel, "Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to you: For they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. ⁸ According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even until this day, works with which they have forsaken Me, and served other gods, so they do also to you. ⁹ Now therefore hearken to their voice: However, still protest solemnly to them, and show them the mannerisms of the king that shall reign over them."

¹² And when you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, 'No; but a king shall reign over us': When the LORD your God was your king. ¹³ Now therefore behold the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have desired! And behold, the LORD has set a king over you. ¹⁴ If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then both you and also the king that reigns over you shall continue following the LORD your God: ¹⁵ But if you will not obey the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD shall be against you, as it was against your fathers. ¹⁶ Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes. ¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, and He shall send thunder and rain; that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking for yourselves a king." ¹⁸ So Samuel called to the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: And all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. ¹⁹ And all the people said to Samuel, "Pray for your servants to the LORD your God, that we do not die: For we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for us a king."

¹⁰ The LORD brings the counsel of the heathen to nothing: He makes the devices of the people of no effect. ¹¹ The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

³⁰ they were not estranged from their lust. But while their food was yet in their mouths, ³¹ the wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

¹² So I gave them up to their own hearts' lust: And they walked in their own counsels.

²⁹ Because your rage against me, and your tumult, have come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn back by the way which you came." '

² And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, ³ "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling-block of their iniquity before their face: Should I be inquired of by them at all? ⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him who comes according to the multitude of his idols; ⁵ that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from Me through their idols." '

¹¹ I gave you a king in My anger, and took him away in My wrath.

⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
