²¹ And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

¹⁴ And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, Thus said your brother Israel, You know all the travail that has befallen us: ¹⁵ How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelled in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers: ¹⁶ And when we cried out to the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt: And behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border: ¹⁷ Let us pass, I implore you, through your country: We will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: We will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your borders. ¹⁸ And Edom said to him, "You shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with the sword. ¹⁹ And the children of Israel said to him, "We will go by the high way: And if I and my domestic beasts drink of your water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.

²⁶ And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, ²⁷ let me pass through your land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left. ²⁸ You shall sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: Only I will pass through on my feet;

¹⁹ And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, "Let us pass, we implore you, through your land into my place. ²⁰ But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his coast: But Sihon gathered all his people together, and pitched in Jahaz, and fought against Israel. ²¹ And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: So Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
