⁵ And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written in it,

¹ So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression. ² Now the first inhabitants that dwelled in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims. ³ And in Jerusalem dwelled of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh; ⁴ uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah. ⁵ And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. ⁶ And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brothers, six hundred and ninety. ⁷ And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah, ⁸ and Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephathiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; ⁹ and their brothers, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.

⁶² These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: Therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

²⁷ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which has put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem:

¹⁹ Think on me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.

¹⁴ My God, think you on Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

⁶⁴ These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: Therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

¹⁰ But by the grace of God I am what I am: And His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: Yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

⁵ Not that we are sufficient by ourselves to think anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

¹² Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ¹³ For it is God which works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure.

²⁹ For this purpose I also labor, striving according to His working, which works in me mightily.

¹⁶ Do not err, my beloved brethren.
