¹ Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it; (though at that time I had not set up the doors on the gates); ² That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief. ³ And I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: Why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you? ⁴ Yet they sent to me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner. ⁵ Then sent Sanballat his servant to me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand; ⁶ in what was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu said it, that you and the Jews think to rebel: For which cause you build the wall, that you may be their king, according to these words. ⁷ And you have also appointed prophets to preach of you at Jerusalem, saying, "There is a king in Judah: And now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together. ⁸ Then I sent to him, saying, "There are no such things done as you say, "but you feign them out of your own heart. ⁹ For they all made us afraid, saying, "Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. ¹⁰ Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, "Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: For they will come to slay you; yes, in the night will they come to slay you. ¹¹ And I said, "Should such a man as I flee? And who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in. ¹² And, see, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: For Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me. ¹⁴ My God, think you on Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear. ¹⁵ So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. ¹⁶ And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard of it, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: For they perceived that this work was worked of our God. ¹⁷ Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came to them. ¹⁸ For there were many in Judah sworn to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah. ¹⁹ Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

¹⁰ When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.

¹⁹ But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, "What is this thing that you do? Will you rebel against the king?

¹ Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; even to the tower of Meah they sanctified it, to the tower of Hananeel.

³ But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid its beams, and set up its doors, its locks, and its bars.

⁶ Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid its beams, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.

¹ But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we built the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

⁶ So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together to its half: For the people had a mind to work. ⁷ But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

²⁵ Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem to the Messiah the Prince, shall be seven weeks, and sixty-two weeks: The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there under the fifth rib, that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, "Are you in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.

¹² The sons of Elpaal; Eber, and Misham, and Shamed, who built Ono, and Lod, with its towns:

³⁵ lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

¹² The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes on him with his teeth.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.

²⁴ He that hates conceals with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; ²⁵ when he speaks in a pleasing manner, do not believe him: For there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shown before the whole congregation.

⁴ Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied by his neighbor. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

² Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men who were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

³¹ And they come to you according to the coming of the people, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

⁴ The best of them is as a brier: The most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: The day of your watchmen and your visitation comes; now shall be their perplexity. ⁵ Do not trust in a friend, do not put your confidence in a guide: Keep the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom.

¹⁹ And that same hour the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him; but they feared the people: For they perceived that He had spoken this parable against them. ²⁰ Therefore they watched Him, and sent forth spies, who would feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of His words, so that they might deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ Then they asked Him, saying, "Master, we know that You say and teach rightly, neither do You revere the person of any, but teach the way of God in truth:

¹⁵ The simple believes every word: But the prudent man looks diligently into his course of life.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, where you go.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

³⁰ saying, 'This man began to build, and was not able to finish.'

⁴ I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: The night is coming, when no man can work.

¹⁵ Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all. ¹⁶ Take heed to yourself, and to the doctrine; continue in them: For in doing this you shall save both yourself, and those that hear you.

⁶ And Delilah said to Samson, "Tell me, I implore you, in what your great strength lies, and with what you might be bound to afflict you."

¹⁰ And Delilah said to Samson, "Behold, you have mocked me, and told me lies: Now tell me, I implore you, with what you might be bound."

¹⁵ And she said to him, "How can you say, 'I love you', when your heart is not with me? You have mocked me these three times, and have not told me in what your great strength lies." ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed to death; ¹⁷ that he told her all his heart, and said to her, "A razor has not come upon my head; for I have been a Nazarite to God from my mother's womb: If I am shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man." ¹⁸ And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, "Come up this once, for he has showed me all his heart." Then the lords of the Philistines came up to her, and brought money in their hand. ¹⁹ And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him. ²⁰ And she said, "The Philistines are upon you, Samson." And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, "I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself." And he did not know that the LORD had departed from him.

²¹ With her very pleasing speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.' "

⁵⁸ Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, seeing you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁵ To whom we did not yield by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

²⁶ Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebna, and Joah, to Rabshakeh, Speak, I implore you, to your servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: And talk not with us in the Jews' language in the ears of the people that are on the wall. ²⁷ But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? Has he not sent me to the men which sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you? ²⁸ Then Rabshakeh stood and cried out with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria:

¹¹ lest Satan should get an advantage over us: For we are not ignorant of his devices.

¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also are transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

¹¹ Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹² Be it known to the king, that the Jews which came up from you to us have come to Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up its walls, and joined the foundations.

¹⁵ that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: So shall you find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: For which cause was this city destroyed.

¹ Now it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it; (though at that time I had not set up the doors on the gates); ² That Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.

³ "And like their bow they bend their tongues for lies: But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me", said the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone take heed of his neighbor, and do not trust in any brother: Forevery brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders. ⁵ And everyone will deceive his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: They have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me", said the LORD.

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, "Fear on every side." "Report", they said, "and we will report it." All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, "Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

¹¹ Blessed are you when men revile you, persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ a King."

¹³ When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

⁸ And not rather just say, (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) "Let us do evil, that good may come"? (whose damnation is just.)

⁸ by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: As deceivers, and yet true;

¹² having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: That while they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. ¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: Whether it be to the king, as supreme;

¹⁶ Having a good conscience; that when they speak evil of you, as of evil-doers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

¹⁰ But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, "Absalom reigns in Hebron. ¹¹ And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were called; and they went in their simplicity, and they did not know anything. ¹² And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.

⁷ And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: And they following Adonijah helped him.

¹⁸ And now, behold, Adonijah reigns; and now, my lord the king, you know it not:

²⁵ For he is gone down this day, and has slain oxen and fat domestic beasts and sheep in abundance, and has called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, "God save king Adonijah.

³⁴ And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: And blow you with the trumpet, and say, "God save king Solomon.

¹² And, see, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: For Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. ¹³ Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

¹⁵ Now you, therefore, together with the council, signify to the chief captain that he bring him down to you tomorrow, as though you would inquire something more perfectly concerning him: And we are ready to kill him whenever he comes near."

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: He has forsaken to be wise, and to do good.

¹² Those that seek after my life also lay snares for me: And those that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

² The tongue devises mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ No one calls for justice, nor does anyone plead for truth: They trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity.

²⁷ And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies to each other at one table; but it shall not prosper: For the end shall still be at the time appointed.

³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and did not abide in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: For he is a liar, and the father of it.

¹² And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, nor raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: ¹³ Neither can they prove the things of which they now accuse me.

⁷ And when he had come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood all around, and laid many grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

¹⁰ Then Paul said, "I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you very well know.

⁶ And David was greatly distressed; for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: But David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

⁷ Be you strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: For your work shall be rewarded.

¹⁸ Then they cried out with a loud voice in the Jews' speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

¹ Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity built the temple to the LORD God of Israel; ² then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said to them, "Let us build with you: For we seek your God, as you do; and we do sacrifice to him since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assur, which brought us up here. ³ But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the chief of the fathers of Israel, said to them, "You have nothing to do with us to build a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to the LORD God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us. ⁴ Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building, ⁵ and hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia. ⁶ And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they to him an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem. ⁷ And in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue, and interpreted in the Syrian tongue. ⁸ Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort: ⁹ Then wrote Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions; the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites, ¹⁰ and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnapper brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time. ¹¹ This is the copy of the letter that they sent to him, even to Artaxerxes the king; Your servants the men on this side the river, and at such a time. ¹² Be it known to the king, that the Jews which came up from you to us have come to Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up its walls, and joined the foundations. ¹³ Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so you shall damage the revenue of the kings. ¹⁴ Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonor, therefore have we sent and certified the king; ¹⁵ that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: So shall you find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: For which cause was this city destroyed. ¹⁶ We certify the king that, if this city be built again, and its walls set up, by this means you shall have no portion on this side the river. ¹⁷ Then sent the king an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria, and to the rest beyond the river, Peace, and at such a time. ¹⁸ The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me. ¹⁹ And I commanded, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. ²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid to them. ²¹ Give you now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until another commandment shall be given from me. ²² Take heed now that you fail not to do this: Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings? ²³ Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power. ²⁴ Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem. So it ceased to the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

¹⁰ And Judah said, "The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall. ¹¹ And our adversaries said, "They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the middle among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease. ¹² And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelled by them came, they said to us ten times, From all places from where you shall return to us they will be upon you. ¹³ Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows. ¹⁴ And I looked, and rose up, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Do not be afraid of them: Remember the LORD, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brothers, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

¹⁴ My God, think you on Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.

³ Each time I am afraid, I will trust in You.

³⁵ O God, you are frightful out of Your holy places: The God of Israel is He that gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God.

¹ In You, O LORD, I put my trust: Let me never be put into a state of confusion.

³ In the day when I cried You answered me, and strengthened me with strength in my soul.

³ Strengthen the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. ⁴ Say to those that are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, fear not: Behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; He will come and save you."

¹⁰ Fear not; for I am with you: Be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.'

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, "We beseech you, let this man be put to death: For thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt."

¹² And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in His name", says the LORD.

⁹ And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you: For My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore, I will most gladly rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

¹⁶ that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man;

¹⁰ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.

¹³ I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

¹² Therefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;

¹⁰ But the God of all grace, who has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

⁵ And against the wall of the house he built chambers all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the oracle: And he made chambers all around:

⁸ For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: And I will cut off from Ahab him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:

³ And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.

²⁴ And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the house of God, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem.

³ He in the first year of his reign, in the first month, opened the doors of the house of the LORD, and repaired them.

⁷ Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place to the God of Israel.

¹⁶ Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

³¹ And of the sons of Harim; Eliezer, Ishijah, Malchiah, Shemaiah, Shimeon,

¹² And, see, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: For Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

¹³ They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not its ways, nor abide in its paths. ¹⁴ The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. ¹⁵ The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, "No eye shall see me: And disguises his face. ¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: They know not the light. ¹⁷ For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: If one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

² Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue. ³ What shall be given to you? Or what shall be done to you, you false tongue?

⁹ A hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor: But through knowledge the just shall be delivered.

⁵ And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, "I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

²⁴ Then the Spirit entered into me, and set me on my feet, and spoke with me, and said to me, "Go, shut yourself within your house.

¹⁰ "Who is there among you that would even shut the doors for free? Neither do you all kindle fire on My altar for free. I have no pleasure in you", says the LORD of hosts, "Neither will I accept an offering from your hand.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³⁰ And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: And they took Paul, and dragged him out of the temple: Then immediately the doors were shut.

⁷ And why discourage you the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them? ⁸ Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land. ⁹ For when they went up to the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

⁵ For he put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel: You saw it, and rejoiced: Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?"

³ And I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: Why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?

⁹ For they all made us afraid, saying, "Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.

³ Behold, you have instructed many, and you have strengthened the weak hands. ⁴ Your words have upheld him that was falling, and you have strengthened the feeble knees. ⁵ But now it is come on you, and you faint; it touches you, and you are troubled. ⁶ Is not this your fear, your confidence, your hope, and the uprightness of your ways?

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. In the LORD I put my trust: How do you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain"? ² For lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privately shoot at the upright in heart.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever: The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursues: But the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹ Dead flies cause the perfumer's ointment to send forth a stinking smell: So does a little folly to him who has a reputation for wisdom and honor.

¹⁸ and shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: And they shall be as when a standard-bearer faints.

³¹ The same day there came certain ones of the Pharisees, saying to Him, "Get out, and depart from this place: For Herod will kill You." ³² And He said to them, "You go, and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.' ³³ Nevertheless I must walk today, tomorrow, and the day following: For it cannot be that a prophet perish outside of Jerusalem.

¹ Moreover Saul was consenting to his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither do I count my life dear to myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ Then Paul answered, "What makes you weep and to break my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

¹⁷ Yes, and if I am offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad, and rejoice with you all.

³⁰ Because for the work of Christ he came near to death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

²⁷ By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: For he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible.

¹¹ Yes, they are greedy dogs who can never have enough, and they are shepherds who cannot understand: They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

¹⁴ Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies in My name: I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoke to them: They prophesy to you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their heart."

¹⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you: They make you vain: They speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

²⁵ "I have heard what the prophets said, "who prophesy lies in My name, saying, 'I have dreamed, I have dreamed.'

¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, "Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD has not sent you; but you make this people trust in a lie.

⁷ Have you not seen a vain vision, and have you not spoken a lying divination, whereas you say, 'The LORD said it'; albeit I have not spoken?"

¹⁹ And will you pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls who should not die, and to save alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to My people who hear your lies?"

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

¹¹ The heads of it judge for reward, and its priests teach for hire, and its prophets divine for money: Yet they will lean upon the LORD, and say, "Is not the LORD among us? No evil can come upon us."

³³ I have coveted no one's silver, or gold, or apparel.

¹⁵ But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged by no man.

¹⁰ to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another diverse kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

³ not given to wine, doesn't strike others, not greedy of filthy profit; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

⁷ For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, doesn't strike others, not given to filthy profit;

² Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking on the oversight of it, not by compulsion, but willingly; not for filthy profit, but from a ready mind;

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits by testing whether they are of God: Because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

¹ A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

⁷ Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My law; fear not the reproach of men, neither be afraid of their revilings.

¹² I, even I, am He who comforts you: Who are you, that you should be afraid of a man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made like grass; ¹³ and forget the LORD your maker, who has stretched forth heaven, and laid the foundations of the earth; and have feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? And where is the fury of the oppressor?

¹¹ And of whom have you been afraid or feared, that you have lied, and have not remembered Me, nor laid it to your heart? Have I not held my peace even of old, and you do not fear Me?

¹⁷ You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all whom I command you: Be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound you before them.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

¹⁷ "Likewise, you son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy against them, ¹⁸ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Woe to the women who sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs on the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will you hunt the souls of My people, and will you save alive the souls who come to you? ¹⁹ And will you pollute Me among My people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls who should not die, and to save alive the souls that should not live, by your lying to My people who hear your lies?" ²⁰ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against your pillows, with which you hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls who you hunt to make them fly. ²¹ I will tear your kerchiefs, and deliver My people out of your hand, and they shall be no longer be in your hand to be hunted; and you shall know that I am the LORD. ²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life: ²³ Therefore you shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: For I will deliver My people out of your hand: And you shall know that I am the LORD." ' "

⁴ Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault; because he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, "We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except if we find it against him concerning the law of his God."

²⁸ And do not fear those which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: But rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His speech.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, elders, and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put Him to death;

¹³ and set up false witnesses, which said, "This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

¹² But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from those who desire an occasion in which to boast; that they may be perceived even like we are.

¹⁴ Therefore it is my will that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give no occasion for the adversary to speak reproachfully.

⁷ For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned; so that he who is of the contrary point of view may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

¹⁷ Therefore, to him that knows to do good, and does not do it, to him it is sin.

²² And the LORD said to him, "With which? And he said, "I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, "You shall persuade him, and prevail also: Go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you. ²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you?

⁴ Hear, O our God; for we are despised: And turn their reproach on their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity: ⁵ And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before you: For they have provoked you to anger before the builders.

¹⁹ Think on me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.

²⁹ Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

²⁰ But, O LORD of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the mind and the heart, let me see Your vengeance on them: For to you I have revealed my cause." ²¹ Therefore thus says the LORD of the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, "Do not prophesy in the name of the LORD, that you do not die by our hand": ²² Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, "Behold, I will punish them: The young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine: ²³ And there shall be no remnant of them: For I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation."

¹⁵ "Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in My name, and whom I have not sent, yet they say, 'Sword and famine shall not be in this land'; 'By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.

¹⁸ If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! And if I enter into the city, then behold those who are sick with famine! Yes, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they do not know.' "

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, and to turn away Your wrath from them. ²¹ Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle. ²² Let a cry be heard from their houses, when You shall bring a troop suddenly on them: For they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet. ²³ Yet, LORD, you know all their counsel against me to slay me: Do not forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from Your sight, but let them be overthrown before You; deal thus with them in the time of Your anger."

¹ And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, and in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azur the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in the house of the LORD, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

¹⁰ Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and broke it.

¹⁶ to wit, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and who see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace", said the Lord GOD. ¹⁷ "Likewise, you son of man, set your face against the daughters of your people, who prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy against them,

¹¹ Then many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

²⁴ For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; so that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: Men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

¹⁴ Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: The Lord reward him according to his works: ¹⁵ Of whom you beware also; for he has greatly withstood our words.

¹⁶ If any man sees his brother sin a sin which is not to death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those that sin not to death. There is a sin leading to death: I do not say that he should pray for it.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

⁷ But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

² Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing; then they said among the heathen, "The LORD has done great things for them."

³⁸ And now I say to you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: For if this counsel or this work is of men, it will come to nothing:

³⁰ After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece. After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah in front of his chamber.

¹³ Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.

⁴ Those that forsake the law praise the wicked: But such as keep the law contend with them.

⁷ The world cannot hate you; but it hates Me, because I testify of it, that the works of the world are evil.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love his own: But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

¹⁸ Therefore they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. ¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. ²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." ²¹ So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way how they might punish them, because of the people: For all men glorified God for that which was done.

⁵ They are of the world: Therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
