¹ And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as He taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon Him with the elders, ² and spoke to Him, saying, "Tell us, by what authority do You do these things? Or whom is he that gave You this authority?" ³ And He answered and said to them, "I will also ask you one thing; and answer Me: ⁴ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?" ⁵ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ⁶ But if we say, 'From men'; all the people will stone us: For they are persuaded that John was a prophet." ⁷ Therefore they answered that they could not tell where it was from. ⁸ And Jesus said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things." ⁹ Then He began to tell the people this parable: "A certain man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country for a long time. ¹⁰ And in due season he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they should give him some of the fruit of the vineyard: But the vinedressers beat him, and sent him away empty handed. ¹¹ And again he sent another servant: And they beat him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty handed. ¹² And again he sent a third: And they wounded him also, and cast him out. ¹³ Then the lord of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: It may be they will reverence him when they see him.' ¹⁴ But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.' ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. Therefore, what shall the lord of the vineyard do to them? ¹⁶ He shall come and destroy those vinedressers, and shall give the vineyard to others." And when they heard it, they said, "God forbid." ¹⁷ Moreover He beheld them, and said, "What is this then that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner'? ¹⁸ Whoever falls upon that stone shall be broken: But on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." ¹⁹ And that same hour the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him; but they feared the people: For they perceived that He had spoken this parable against them. ²⁰ Therefore they watched Him, and sent forth spies, who would feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of His words, so that they might deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ Then they asked Him, saying, "Master, we know that You say and teach rightly, neither do You revere the person of any, but teach the way of God in truth: ²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" ²³ But He perceived their craftiness, and said to them, "Why do you tempt Me? ²⁴ Show Me a silver coin. Whose image and inscription does it have?" They answered and said, "Caesar's." ²⁵ And He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." ²⁶ Therefore they could not take hold of His words in front of the people: And they marveled at His answer, and held their peace. ²⁷ Then certain Sadducees came to Him, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked Him, ²⁸ saying, "Master, Moses wrote to us that if any man's brother dies while still having a wife, and he dies without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁹ There were then seven brothers: And the first took a wife, and died without children. ³⁰ And the second took her as wife, and he died childless. ³¹ Then the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: And they left no children, and died. ³² Last of all the woman died also. ³³ Therefore, in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? For all seven had her as wife." ³⁴ Then Jesus answering said to them, "The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: ³⁵ But those who shall be counted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: ³⁶ Neither can they die anymore: For they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. ³⁷ Now Moses even told at the bush that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' ³⁸ For He is not a God of the dead, but of the living: For all live to Him." ³⁹ Then certain ones of the scribes answering said, "Master, You have spoken well." ⁴⁰ Moreover, after that they dared not ask Him any question at all. ⁴¹ And He said to them, "How can they say that Christ is David's Son? ⁴² Even David himself said in the Book of Psalms, 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, ⁴³ until I make Your enemies Your footstool." ' ⁴⁴ David therefore called Him 'Lord'; how then is He his Son?" ⁴⁵ Then, in the audience of all the people He said to His disciples, ⁴⁶ "Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; ⁴⁷ which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: The same shall receive greater damnation."

¹ Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ² But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: Therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office. ³ And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service. ⁴ And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar, and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers. ⁵ Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. ⁶ And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: One principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar. ⁷ Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, ⁸ the third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, ⁹ the fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, ¹⁰ the seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, ¹¹ the ninth to Jeshuah, the tenth to Shecaniah, ¹² the eleventh to Eliashib, the twelfth to Jakim, ¹³ the thirteenth to Huppah, the fourteenth to Jeshebeab, ¹⁴ the fifteenth to Bilgah, the sixteenth to Immer, ¹⁵ the seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses, ¹⁶ the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezekel, ¹⁷ the one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul, ¹⁸ the three and twentieth to Delaiah, the four and twentieth to Maaziah. ¹⁹ These were the orderings of them in their service to come into the house of the LORD, according to their manner, under Aaron their father, as the LORD God of Israel had commanded him. ²⁰ And the rest of the sons of Levi were these: Of the sons of Amram; Shubael: Of the sons of Shubael; Jehdeiah. ²¹ Concerning Rehabiah: Of the sons of Rehabiah, the first was Isshiah. ²² Of the Izharites; Shelomoth: Of the sons of Shelomoth; Jahath. ²³ And the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth. ²⁴ Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah: Of the sons of Michah; Shamir. ²⁵ The brother of Michah was Isshiah: Of the sons of Isshiah; Zechariah. ²⁶ The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi: The sons of Jaaziah; Beno. ²⁷ The sons of Merari by Jaaziah; Beno, and Shoham, and Zaccur, and Ibri. ²⁸ Of Mahli came Eleazar, who had no sons. ²⁹ Concerning Kish: The son of Kish was Jerahmeel. ³⁰ The sons also of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites after the house of their fathers. ³¹ These likewise cast lots in front of their brothers the sons of Aaron in the presence of David the king, and Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites, even the principal fathers in front of their younger brothers.

²³ And when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority do you do these things? And who gave You this authority?" ²⁴ And Jesus answered and said to them, "I will also ask you one thing, which if you tell me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁵ The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven, or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ But if we say, 'From men'; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet." ²⁷ Therefore they answered Jesus, and said, "We cannot tell." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

⁵⁵ In that same hour Jesus said to the multitudes, "Have you come out as against a thief with swords and wooden staffs to take Me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and you did not lay hold of Me.

²⁷ Then they came again to Jerusalem: And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders came to Him, ²⁸ And they said to Him, "By what authority do you do these things? And who gave You this authority to do these things?" ²⁹ And Jesus answered and said to them, "I will also ask you one question, and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. ³⁰ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? Answer Me." ³¹ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ³² But if we say, 'From men' "; they feared the people: For all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed. ³³ Therefore they answered and said to Jesus, "We cannot tell." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."

¹ And it came to pass afterward, that He went throughout every city and village, preaching and showing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: And the twelve were with Him,

⁴⁷ And He taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy Him, ⁴⁸ and could not find what they might do: For all the people were very attentive to hear Him.

²⁰ Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always assemble; and in secret I have said nothing.

¹ And as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

¹² And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

¹⁴ And he said, "Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?" And Moses feared, and said, "Surely this thing is known."

³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: And they cast their clothes upon the colt, and they set Jesus on him. ³⁶ And as He went, they spread their clothes on the road. ³⁷ And when He was drawing near, even now at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; ³⁸ saying, " 'Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the LORD': Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest." ³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said to Him, "Master, rebuke Your disciples." ⁴⁰ And He answered and said to them, "I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."

⁴⁵ Then He went into the temple, and began to drive out those who sold in it, and those who bought; ⁴⁶ saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is the house of prayer': But you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "

¹⁸ Then the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, seeing that You do these things?"

²² For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son: ²³ That all men should honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that does not honor the Son does not honor the Father which sent Him. ²⁴ "Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears My word, and believes on Him that sent Me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but has passed from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I say to you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: And those that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in Himself; so He has given to the Son to have life in Himself; ²⁷ and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

⁷ And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power, or by what name, have you done this?" ⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, ⁹ if we this day are examined for the good deed done to the feeble man, by what means he is made whole; ¹⁰ let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by Him does this man stand here before you whole.

²⁷ But he who did his neighbor wrong thust him away, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge over us?

³⁵ "This Moses whom they refused, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?' is the same that God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. ³⁶ He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ³⁷ "This is that Moses who said to the children of Israel, 'The LORD your God shall raise up to you a Prophet from your brethren, similar to me: Him you shall hear.' ³⁸ "This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spoke to him in Mount Sinai, and with our fathers: Who received the lively oracles to give to us: ³⁹ Whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust Him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

⁵¹ "You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit: As your fathers did, so you do.

² "Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." ³ And He answered and said to them, "Why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

⁶⁸ And if I also ask you, you will not answer Me, nor let Me go.

⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer every man.

²⁵ That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will. ²⁶ And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; your kingdom shall be sure to you, after that you shall make known that the heavens do rule.

⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ⁸ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft apparel? Behold, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. ⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You.' ¹¹ Truly I say to you, Among those that are born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than him. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you will receive it, this is Elijah, who was to come beforehand. ¹⁵ He who has ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁶ But to what shall I liken this generation? It is likened to children sitting in the marketplaces, and calling to their friends, ¹⁷ and saying: 'We have piped to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not lamented.' ¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a devil.' ¹⁹ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Behold a gluttonous man, and a wine drinker, a friend of publicans and sinners.' But wisdom is justified by her children."

¹¹ And Jesus answered and said to them, "Truly Elijah shall come first, and restore all things. ¹² But I say to you, That Elijah has come already, and they did not know him, but have done to him whatever they intended. Likewise the Son of Man shall also suffer because of them."

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?' ²⁶ But if we say, 'From men'; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet." ²⁷ Therefore they answered Jesus, and said, "We cannot tell." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. ²⁸ But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, 'Son, go work today in my vineyard.' ²⁹ He answered and said, 'I will not': But afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ Then he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, 'I will go, sir': And did not go. ³¹ Which of those two did the will of his father?" They said to Him, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: But the publicans and the harlots believed him: And you, when you had seen it, did not repent afterward, that you might believe him.

²⁸ For I say to you, Among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And all the people who heard Him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, not being baptized by him. ³¹ And the Lord said, "To what then shall I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like? ³² They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling to one another, saying, 'We have piped to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not wept.' ³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and you say, 'He has a devil.' ³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking; and you say, 'Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!' ³⁵ But wisdom is justified by all her children."

¹⁸ I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before you,

⁶ There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

¹⁹ And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?" ²⁰ And he confessed, and did not deny; but confessed, "I am not the Christ." ²¹ Therefore they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" And he said, "I am not." "Are you that prophet?" And he answered, "No." ²² Then they said to him, "Who are you? That we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?" ²³ He said, "I am 'the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, "Make straight the way of the Lord" ', as the prophet Isaiah said. ²⁴ And those who were sent were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said to him, "Why then do you baptize, if you are not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?" ²⁶ John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water: But there stands One among you, whom you do not know; ²⁷ it is He, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe string I am not worthy to unloose." ²⁸ These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.

¹⁵ John bore witness of Him, and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I spoke, 'He that comes after me is preferred before me: For He was before me.' " ¹⁶ And of His fullness we all have received, and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. ¹⁸ No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

³⁰ This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me: For He was before me.'

³⁴ And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God."

²⁶ And they came to John, and said to him, "Rabbi, He that was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bear witness, behold, the same baptizes, and all men come to Him."

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

³³ You sent to John, and he bore witness to the truth. ³⁴ But I do not receive testimony from man: But these things I say, that you might be saved. ³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: And you were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, 'Who do you think that I am? I am not He. But behold, there comes One after me, whose shoes of His feet I am not worthy to loose.'

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And more than a prophet.

⁵ And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

²⁶ But if we say, 'From men'; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet."

⁴⁶ But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitude, because they held Him as a prophet.

⁵ But they said, "Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people."

¹² And they sought to lay hold of Him, but feared the people: For they knew that He had spoken the parable against them: And they left Him, and went their way.

⁷⁶ And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: For you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways;

²⁶ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You.' ²⁸ For I say to you, Among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And all the people who heard Him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

⁴¹ Then many resorted to Him, and said, "John did no miracle: But all things that John spoke concerning this Man were true."

²⁶ Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence: For they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.

⁹ And He said, "Go, and tell this people, 'You indeed hear, but do not understand; and you see indeed, but do not perceive.' ¹⁰ Make the heart of this people dull, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

¹¹ LORD, when Your hand is lifted up, they will not see: But they shall see, and be ashamed for their envy of the people; yes, the fire of Your enemies shall devour them.

⁹ Stop yourselves, and wonder; cry out, and cry: They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. ¹⁰ For the LORD has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes: He has covered the prophets, your rulers, and the seers. ¹¹ And all the vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is learned, saying, "Read this, I pray": And he said, "I cannot; for it is sealed." ¹² And the book is delivered to him who is not learned, saying, "Read this, I pray": And he said, "I am not learned."

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid."

²⁸ For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counselor, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

¹⁹ Who is blind, but My servant? Or deaf, as My messenger that I sent? Who is blind as he who is perfect, and blind as the LORD's servant? ²⁰ Seeing many things, but you do not observe; opening the ears, but he does not hear.

¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: For He has shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

⁷ Yes, the stork in heaven knows her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but My people do not know the judgment of the LORD. ⁸ How do you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?' See, certainly in vain he made it; the pen of the scribes is in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: Lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them?

¹⁵ And the LORD said to me, "At this time take to yourself the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

¹⁷ Woe to the idol shepherd that leaves the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: His arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened."

⁷ For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: For he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. ⁸ But you all have departed out of the way; you all have caused many to stumble at the law; you all have corrupted the covenant of Levi", says the LORD of hosts. ⁹ "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and lowly before all the people, according to as you all have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law."

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

³⁹ And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those which do not see might see; and that those which see might be made blind."

¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all might be damned who did not believe the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

⁸ Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: Men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. ⁹ But they shall proceed no further: For their folly shall be manifest to all men, as Jannes' and Jambres' folly also was.

³ Knowing this first, that scoffers shall come in the last days, walking after their own lusts,

¹² He disappoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

¹⁴ Leave them alone: They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."

⁴ A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall be no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonah." And He left them, and departed.

²⁷ Therefore they answered Jesus, and said, "We cannot tell." And He said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

³³ Therefore they answered and said to Jesus, "We cannot tell." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."

¹⁵ So I took the chief of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens, and officers among your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your judges at that time, saying, "Hear the causes between your brothers, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ You shall not respect persons in judgment; but you shall hear the small as well as the great; you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: And the cause that is too hard for you, bring it to me, and I will hear it. ¹⁸ And I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.

¹⁸ Judges and officers shall you make you in all your gates, which the LORD your God gives you, throughout your tribes: And they shall judge the people with just judgment.

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within your gates: Then you shall arise, and get you up into the place which the LORD your God shall choose; ⁹ and you shall come to the priests the Levites, and to the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show you the sentence of judgment: ¹⁰ And you shall do according to the sentence, which they of that place which the LORD shall choose shall show you; and you shall observe to do according to all that they inform you: ¹¹ According to the sentence of the law which they shall teach you, and according to the judgment which they shall tell you, you shall do: You shall not decline from the sentence which they shall show you, to the right hand side, nor to the left. ¹² And the man that will do presumptuously, and will not listen to the priest that stands to minister there before the LORD your God, or to the judge, even that man shall die: And you shall put away the evil from Israel. ¹³ And all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously. ¹⁴ When you have come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell in it, and shall say, "I will set a king over me, like as all the nations that are about me; ¹⁵ you shall in any wise set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: One from among your brothers shall you set king over you: You may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.

⁸ You have brought a vine out of Egypt: You have cast out the heathen, and planted it. ⁹ You prepared a place before it, and caused it to take deep root, and it filled the land. ¹⁰ The hills were covered with its shadow, and its boughs were like the mighty cedars. ¹¹ She sent out her boughs to the sea, and her branches to the river. ¹² Why then have You broken down her hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck her? ¹³ The boar out of the woods destroys it, and the wild beast of the field devours it. ¹⁴ Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts: Look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he leased out the vineyard to keepers; everyone was to bring a thousand pieces of silver for the fruit of it. ¹² My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: You, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit of it two hundred.

¹ Now I will sing to my well Beloved a song of my Beloved touching His vineyard. My well Beloved has a vineyard in a very fruitful hill: ² And He fenced it, and gathered out the stones of it, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the middle of it, and also made a winepress in it: And He expected that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes. ³ "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, I implore you, judge between Me and My vineyard. ⁴ What more could have been done to My vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected that it should bring forth grapes, it brought forth wild grapes? ⁵ And now come; I will tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall of it, and it shall be trodden down: ⁶ And I will lay it waste: It shall not be pruned, nor dug; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain on it. ⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah His pleasant plant: And He looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.

²¹ Yet I had planted you a noble vine, wholly a right seed: How then are you turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine to me?

³³ Hear another parable: There was a certain householder who planted a vineyard, and hedged it all around, and dug a winepress in it, and built a tower, and leased it out to vinedressers, and went into a far country: ³⁴ Now when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive the fruit of it. ³⁵ But the vinedressers took his servants, and beat one, killed another, and stoned yet another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: And they did likewise to them. ³⁷ But last of all he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' ³⁸ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.' ³⁹ And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. ⁴⁰ Therefore when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers? ⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will lease out his vineyard to other vinedressers, which shall give him the fruits in their seasons." ⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner: This is the LORD'S doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? ⁴³ Therefore I say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it. ⁴⁴ And whoever falls on this stone shall be broken: But on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder." ⁴⁵ And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard His parables, they perceived that He spoke about them. ⁴⁶ But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitude, because they held Him as a prophet.

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered his goods to them.

¹ Then He began to speak to them in parables. "A certain man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge around it, dug a place for the wine vat, and built a tower; and he leased it to vinedressers, and went into a far country. ² And when the season came he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that he might receive some of the fruit of the vineyard from the vinedressers. ³ And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away empty handed. ⁴ Yet again he sent another servant to them; and they cast stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated. ⁵ And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some. ⁶ Therefore still having one son, his well-beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' ⁷ But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' ⁸ Then they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ Therefore what shall the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and will give the vineyard to others. ¹⁰ And have you not read this scripture; 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner: ¹¹ This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? " ¹² And they sought to lay hold of Him, but feared the people: For they knew that He had spoken the parable against them: And they left Him, and went their way.

¹² Therefore He said, "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹ "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. ² Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away: And every branch that bears fruit, He purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit. ³ Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine; no more can you, unless you abide in Me. ⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: For without Me you can do nothing. ⁶ If a man does not abide in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you. ⁸ In this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be My disciples.

⁶ I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither he that plants is anything, nor he that waters; but God that gives the increase. ⁸ Now he that plants and he that waters are one: And every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are laborers together with God: You are God's tillage, you are God's building.

⁸ that the LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel, which said to them, "Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage; ⁹ and I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drove them out from before you, and gave you their land; ¹⁰ and I said to you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: But you have not obeyed My voice.

²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak to you?

¹³ Yet the LORD testified against Israel, and against Judah, by all the prophets, and by all the seers, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

¹⁹ Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to the LORD; and they testified against them: But they would not give ear. ²⁰ And the Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said to them, "Thus said God, Why transgress you the commandments of the LORD, that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you. ²¹ And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.

¹⁵ And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: ¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

²⁶ Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their backs, and slew your prophets which testified against them to turn them to you, and they worked great provocations.

³⁰ Yet many years did you forbear them, and testified against them by your spirit in your prophets: Yet would they not give ear: Therefore gave you them into the hand of the people of the lands.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

³⁰ "In vain I have smitten your children; they received no correction: Your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

²⁴ Neither do they say in their heart, "Let us now fear the LORD our God, who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in His season: He reserves to us the appointed weeks of the harvest."

² Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.

³ "From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the LORD has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not listened. ⁴ And the LORD has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but you have not listened, nor inclined your ear to hear. ⁵ They said, 'All of you turn now again, everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and to your fathers forever and ever: ⁶ And do not go after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no harm.' ⁷ Yet you have not listened to Me", said the LORD; "that you might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

² "Thus says the LORD; 'Stand in the court of the LORD's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD's house, all the words that I command you to speak to them; diminish not a word: ³ It may be they will listen, and every man turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the evil which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.' ⁴ And you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD; "If you will not listen to Me, to walk in My law, which I have set before you, ⁵ to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I sent to you, both rising up early, and sending them, but you have not listened; ⁶ then I will make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth." ' "

²⁰ And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjathjearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah. ²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: But when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people. ²⁴ Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

²⁶ 'The LORD has made you priest in the stead of Jehoiada the priest, that you should be officers in the house of the LORD, for every man that is mad, and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in prison, and in the stocks. ²⁷ Now therefore why have you not reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, who makes himself a prophet to you?

¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return now each man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers': But you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to Me.

¹⁵ Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: For they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, "We beseech you, let this man be put to death: For thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt." ⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, "Behold, he is in your hand: For the king is not he who can do anything against you." ⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: And they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: So Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

⁴ However, I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, "Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate." ⁵ But they did not listen, nor incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away. ⁵ Therefore I have hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of My mouth: And your judgments are as the light that goes forth. ⁶ For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

³ Therefore say you to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn to Me", says the LORD of hosts, "and I will turn to you", says the LORD of hosts. ⁴ "Do not be as your fathers, to whom the former prophets have cried out, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings, all of you" ': But they did not hear, nor hearken to Me", says the LORD. ⁵ "Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? ⁶ But My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? And they returned and said, 'As the LORD of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, in this manner He has dealt with us.' "

⁹ "Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, 'Execute true judgment, and show mercy and compassions, every man to his brother: ¹⁰ And do not oppress the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.' ¹¹ But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts has sent in His Spirit by the former prophets: Therefore a great wrath came from the LORD of hosts. ¹³ Therefore it has come to pass, that as He cried out, and they would not hear; so they cried out, and I would not hear", says the LORD of hosts:

³⁴ Now when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive the fruit of it. ³⁵ But the vinedressers took his servants, and beat one, killed another, and stoned yet another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: And they did likewise to them.

⁴⁷ Woe to you! For you build the sepulchers of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you allow the deeds of your fathers: For they indeed killed them, and you build their sepulchers. ⁴⁹ Therefore the wisdom of God also said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute': ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing!

¹⁶ You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bear forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: That whatever you shall ask of the Father in My name, He may give it to you.

⁴ Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that you should be married to another, even to Him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God.

¹ Israel is an empty vine, he brings forth fruit to himself: According to the multitude of his fruit he has increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

³⁰ and say, 'If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.' ³¹ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the children of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes: And some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets, and stone those which are sent to you; how often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

² But even after we had suffered beforehand, and were shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God with much contention.

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of chains and imprisonment: ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn into parts, were tempted, were slain with the sword: They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

⁴ What more could have been done to My vineyard, that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected that it should bring forth grapes, it brought forth wild grapes?

³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin."

⁷ It may be they will present their supplication before the LORD, and will return everyone from his evil way: For great is the anger and the fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people."

⁴ O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goes away.

⁸ How shall I give you up, Ephraim? How shall I deliver you, Israel? How shall I make you as Admah? How shall I set you as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My repentings are kindled together.

¹⁷ And behold a voice from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

⁵ While he still spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: And behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear Him."

³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son: Hear Him."

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. ¹⁷ For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

³⁵ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. ³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

⁹ In this the love of God was manifested toward us, in how God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to also love one another. ¹² No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us. ¹³ By this we know that we dwell in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. ¹⁴ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. ¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.

¹⁸ And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near to them, they conspired against him to slay him. ¹⁹ And they said to one another, "Behold, this dreamer comes.dreamer: In Hebrew, master of dreams ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, "Some evil beast has devoured him: And we shall see what will become of his dreams."

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, ³ "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us." ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: The LORD shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure. ⁶ "Yet I have set My king upon My holy hill of Zion."

⁸ Ask of Me, and I shall give You the heathen for Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession.

²⁷ Also I will make him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

² saying, "Where is He that has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the east, and have come to worship Him." ³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea: For thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ 'And you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the princes of Judah: For out of you shall come a Governor, that shall rule My people Israel.' " ⁷ Then Herod, when he had privately called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared. ⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young Child; and when you have found Him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship Him also." ⁹ When they heard the king, they departed; and lo, the star which they saw in the east went before them, until it came and stood over where the young Child was. ¹⁰ When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. ¹¹ And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshiped Him: And when they had opened their treasures, they presented to Him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ¹² And being warned by God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way. ¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee into Egypt, and remain there until I bring you word: For Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him." ¹⁴ When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night, and departed into Egypt: ¹⁵ And was there until the death of Herod: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I have called My Son." ¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly wroth, and sent forth, and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and inside all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

⁷ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "It is because we have taken no bread."

²⁵ The baptism of John, where was it from? From heaven, or from men?" And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say to us, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

²¹ The governor answered and said to them, "Which of the two would you rather that I release to you?" They said, "Barabbas." ²² Pilate said to them, "What then shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said to him, "Let Him be crucified." ²³ And the governor said, "Why, what evil has He done?" But they cried out all the more, saying, "Let Him be crucified." ²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could prevail in nothing, but rather that a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, "I am innocent of the blood of this just Person: You see to it." ²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

⁴⁷ And He taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the chief of the people sought to destroy Him,

⁵ And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven'; He will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'

¹⁹ And that same hour the chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on Him; but they feared the people: For they perceived that He had spoken this parable against them.

² And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill Him; for they feared the people.

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What shall we do? For this Man does many miracles. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone after that, all men will believe upon Him: And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation." ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, "You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish."

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if as should be we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

² has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds;

³⁷ But last of all he sent his son to them, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' ³⁸ But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance.' ³⁹ And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. ⁴⁰ Therefore when the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?

⁶ Therefore still having one son, his well-beloved, he also sent him to them last, saying, 'They will reverence my son.' ⁷ But those vinedressers said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.' ⁸ Then they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ Therefore what shall the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the vinedressers, and will give the vineyard to others.

¹² Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

³⁶ Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it: ³⁷ And it yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: Also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our domestic beasts, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

⁸ Ask of Me, and I shall give You the heathen for Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession. ⁹ You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.' "

⁸ Your hand shall find out all Your enemies: Your right hand shall find out those that hate You. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger: The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ You shall destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

⁴¹ They said to Him, "He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will lease out his vineyard to other vinedressers, which shall give him the fruits in their seasons."

⁷ But when the king heard about it, he was wroth: And he sent forth his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.

²⁷ But bring here those enemies of mine, who were not willing that I reign over them, and slay them before me.' "

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, "It was necessary that the Word of God should first have been spoken to you: But seeing you put it away from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.

²² The Stone which the builders refused has become the Head Stone of the corner.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: He that believes shall not make haste.

⁹ For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: Behold, I will engrave the carved work upon it', says the LORD of hosts, 'and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner: This is the LORD'S doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?

⁵ And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved because of the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, "Stretch forth your hand." And he stretched it out; and his hand was restored whole like the other.

²³ Then Jesus looked around, and said to His disciples, "How hardly shall those that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!"

¹⁰ And have you not read this scripture; 'The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner:

⁴¹ And when He drew near, He beheld the city, and wept over it,

³⁷ For I say to you, That this which is written must still be accomplished in Me, 'And He was counted among the transgressors': For the things concerning Me have an end."

⁶¹ And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows, you shall deny Me three times."

⁴⁴ And He said to them, "These are the words which I spoke to you, while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the Law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me."

²⁵ But this came to pass, that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'

¹¹ This is the 'stone which was set at naught by you builders, which has become the head of the corner.'

⁷ Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious: But to those who are disobedient, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same is made the head cornerstone", ⁸ and "A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense", even to those which stumble at the word, being disobedient: For that also they were appointed.

¹⁴ And He shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

³⁴ You saw until a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and broke them to pieces. ³⁵ Then the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, were broken to pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, that no place was found for them: And the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth.

⁴⁴ And in the days of these kings the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: And the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. ⁴⁵ In as much as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass in time to come: And the dream is certain, and the interpretation of it sure."

³ And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

³⁴ Now when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive the fruit of it.

⁴⁴ And whoever falls on this stone shall be broken: But on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder."

¹⁶ Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to always fill up their sins: For the wrath has come upon them to the uttermost.

³ Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled together at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, ⁴ and consulted that they might take Jesus through cunning, and kill Him.

¹⁴ But when the vinedressers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'

² And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched there a wise woman, and said to her, "I implore you, feign yourself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not yourself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead:

² And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, I implore you, and disguise yourself, that you be not known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get you to Shiloh: Behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people. ³ And take with you ten loaves, and cracknels, and a jar of honey, and go to him: He shall tell you what shall become of the child. ⁴ And Jeroboam's wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age. ⁵ And the LORD said to Ahijah, "Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to ask a thing of you for her son; for he is sick: Thus and thus shall you say to her: For it shall be, when she comes in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman. ⁶ And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she came in at the door, that he said, "Come in, you wife of Jeroboam; why feign you yourself to be another? For I am sent to you with heavy tidings.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

¹² Those that seek after my life also lay snares for me: And those that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

³ Say to God, "How frightening You are in Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.

¹⁵ The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves to Him: Even their season should have endured forever.

²⁰ For the terrible one is brought to nothing, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: ²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproves in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nothing.

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and did not I know that they had devised devices against me, saying, 'Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may not be remembered anymore.'

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, "Fear on every side." "Report", they said, "and we will report it." All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, "Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His speech. ¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show Me the tribute money." And they brought to Him a silver coin. ²⁰ And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" ²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." ²² When they heard these words, they marveled, and left Him, and went their way.

² And when they had bound Him, they led Him away, and delivered Him to the governor Pontius Pilate.

² Therefore they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath day; that they might accuse Him.

¹³ Then they sent to Him certain ones of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch Him in His words. ¹⁴ Moreover when they had come, they said to Him, "Master, we know that You are true, and revere no man; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Should we give, or should we not give?" But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a silver coin, that I may see it." ¹⁶ And they brought it. And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They said to Him, "Caesar's." ¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.

⁵⁴ Lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.

²⁶ Therefore they could not take hold of His words in front of the people: And they marveled at His answer, and held their peace.

²⁸ Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: And it was early; but they themselves did not go into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; that they might yet eat the Passover. ²⁹ Pilate then went out to them, and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?" ³⁰ They answered and said to him, "If He were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered Him up to you." ³¹ Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him, and judge Him according to your law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put any man to death": ³² That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which He spoke, signifying what death He should die.

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

⁷ Why now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: For there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor reverence of persons, nor taking of gifts.

¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

² They speak vanity, everyone with his neighbor: With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.

²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "We beseech you, let our supplication be accepted before you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; (for we are but a few left of many, as your eyes do behold us): ³ That the LORD your God may show us the way in which we may walk, and the thing that we may do."

¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men.

⁴⁹ And immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Hail, Master"; and kissed Him. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, "Friend, why have you come?" Then they came, and laid hands on Jesus, and took Him.

¹⁴ Moreover when they had come, they said to Him, "Master, we know that You are true, and revere no man; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

² The same came to Jesus by night, and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God: For no man can do these miracles that You do, unless God is with him."

³⁴ Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, "Truly I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: ³⁵ But in every nation he that fears Him, and works righteousness, is accepted with Him.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, which corrupt the Word of God: But out of sincerity, but as from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

¹⁰ For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

⁶ But from those who seemed to be something (whatever they were, it does not matter to me: God accepts no man's person): For those who seemed to be something while in conference added nothing to me:

⁴ But as we were allowed by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which examines our hearts. ⁵ Seeing we did not use flattering words at any time, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness:

¹⁵ you shall in any wise set him king over you, whom the LORD your God shall choose: One from among your brothers shall you set king over you: You may not set a stranger over you, which is not your brother.

¹³ Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so you shall damage the revenue of the kings.

¹⁹ And I commanded, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made in it. ²⁰ There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid to them. ²¹ Give you now commandment to cause these men to cease, and that this city be not built, until another commandment shall be given from me. ²² Take heed now that you fail not to do this: Why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

⁷ Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass to this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.

⁴ There were also that said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that on our lands and vineyards.

³⁷ And it yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: Also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our domestic beasts, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

²⁵ He said, "Yes." And when he had come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or tribute? From their own children, or from strangers?"

¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show Me the tribute money." And they brought to Him a silver coin. ²⁰ And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" ²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."

³⁷ After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the taxing, and drew away many people after him: He also perished; and even as many as obeyed him were all dispersed.

⁹ When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw My work.

¹ The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting Him they asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites?

²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answering said to them, "What are you reasoning in your hearts?

⁸ But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, "Rise up, and stand forth in the midst." And he arose and stood forth.

¹⁶ And others, tempting Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven. ¹⁷ But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.

⁵³ And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to quarrel against Him vehemently, and to provoke Him to speak of many things: ⁵⁴ Lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.

²⁰ Therefore they watched Him, and sent forth spies, who would feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of His words, so that they might deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor.

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and did not need from man that any should testify: For He knew what was in man.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness."

⁹ Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: But all things are naked and uncovered to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to give account.

²⁸ But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred silver coins: And he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'

² And when he had agreed with the laborers for a silver coin a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

¹ And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene,tetrarch; or, governor of four provinces

²² Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?"

² And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that He Himself is Christ a King."

²⁸ And one of them stood up, named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great famine throughout all the world: Which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

⁸ Meanwhile, he answered for himself, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended in anything at all." ⁹ But Festus, willing to do the Jews a favor, answered Paul and said, "Will you go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged concerning these things before me?" ¹⁰ Then Paul said, "I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: To the Jews I have done no wrong, as you very well know. ¹¹ For if I am an offender, or have committed anything worthy of death, I do not refuse to die: But if there is nothing to these things of which they accuse me, no man may deliver me to them. I appeal to Caesar." ¹² Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, "You have appealed to Caesar? To Caesar you shall go."

³² Then Agrippa said to Festus, "This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed to Caesar."

²² All the saints salute you, especially those that are of Caesar's household.

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king: And do not meddle with those that are given to change:

²⁷ Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first comes up; and when you have opened his mouth, you shall find a piece of money: Take that, and give it to them for Me and you."

²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's."

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they marveled at Him.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. ²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."

²⁹ But Peter and the other apostles answered and said, "We ought to obey God rather than men.

⁶ Because, for this reason you also pay tribute: For they are God's ministers, attending continually to this very thing. ⁷ Render therefore to all their dues: Tribute to whom tribute is due; customs to whom customs; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

³¹ Therefore, whether you eat, or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

¹³ Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: Whether it be to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ or to governors, as to those that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of those that do well. ¹⁵ For thus is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: ¹⁶ As free, yet not using your liberty as a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. ¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

¹¹ If any man speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God gives: That in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the praise and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

¹² And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.

²² When they heard these words, they marveled, and left Him, and went their way.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees heard that He had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together.

¹⁷ And when He had said these things, all His adversaries were ashamed: And all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by Him.

³⁹ Then certain ones of the scribes answering said, "Master, You have spoken well." ⁴⁰ Moreover, after that they dared not ask Him any question at all.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to those who are under the law: That every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

¹⁰ For there are many unruly and vain talkers, and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision:

⁶ Then Jesus said to them, "Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees."

¹² Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

²³ The same day the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him, ²⁴ saying, "Master, Moses said that if a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers: After the first had married a wife, he died, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother: ²⁶ Likewise the second also, and the third, until the seventh. ²⁷ And last of all, the woman died also. ²⁸ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of the seven shall she be? For they all had her." ²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." ³³ And when the multitude heard this, they were astonished at His doctrine.

¹⁸ Then the Sadducees came to Him, who say there is no resurrection; and they asked Him, saying, ¹⁹ "Master, Moses wrote to us that if any man's brother dies, and leaves his wife behind, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother. ²⁰ Now there were seven brothers: And the first took a wife; and dying left no seed. ²¹ And the second took her, and died, and he did not leave any seed either: And the third likewise. ²² Even all seven had her, and left no seed: Last of all the woman died also. ²³ Therefore, in the resurrection when they rise, whose wife shall she be of them? For all seven had her as wife." ²⁴ Jesus answering said to them, "Are you not therefore in error, because you do not know the scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. ²⁶ And concerning the dead, that they rise: Have you not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: Therefore you error greatly."

¹ And as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, ² being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

¹⁷ Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation,

⁶ But when Paul perceived that one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, "Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called into question." ⁷ And when he had said this, a dissension arose between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: And the multitude was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: But the Pharisees confess both.

¹² Now if Christ is preached that He rose from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?

¹⁷ And their word will eat as does a canker: Of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus; ¹⁸ who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.

⁸ And Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother."

¹¹ Then Judah said to Tamar his daughter-in-law, "Remain a widow at your father's house, until Shelah my son is grown": For he said, "Lest peradventure he die also, as his brothers did." And Tamar went and dwelled in her father's house.

²⁶ And Judah acknowledged them, and said, "She has been more righteous than I; because I did not give her to my son Shelah." And he knew her no more again.

⁵ If brothers dwell together, and one of them dies, and has no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry outside his family to a stranger: Her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. ⁶ And it shall be, that the firstborn which she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel. ⁷ And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate to the elders, and say, "My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother. ⁸ Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him: And if he stand to it, and say, "I like not to take her; ⁹ then shall his brother's wife come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, "So shall it be done to that man that will not build up his brother's house. ¹⁰ And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that has his shoe loosed.

¹¹ And Naomi said, "Turn again, my daughters: Why will you go with me? Are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? ¹² Turn again, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, 'I have hope', if I should have a husband also tonight, and should also bear sons;

²⁰ And if a man shall lie with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness: They shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

³⁰ Thus says the LORD, 'Write down this man as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days: For no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.' "

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers: And there arose another generation after them, which did not know the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel.

⁴ One generation passes away, and another generation comes: But the earth stays forever.

⁵ For the living know that they shall die: But the dead do not know anything, neither do they have any more reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment:

⁸ Yet the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: For the children of this world in their generation are wiser than the children of light.

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

² Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render to the wife due benevolence; and likewise also the wife to the husband. ⁴ The wife does not have power of her own body, but the husband does: And likewise also the husband does not have power of his own body, but the wife does. ⁵ Do not defraud one another, except if it be with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan does not tempt you through your lack of self-control. ⁶ But I speak this by permission, and not as a commandment. ⁷ For I would have that all men were even as I myself. But every man has his proper gift from God, one in this manner, and another in that. ⁸ Therefore, I say to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. ⁹ But if they cannot contain themselves, let them marry: For it is better to marry than to burn. ¹⁰ Now to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: And do not let the husband put away his wife. ¹² But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. ¹³ And the woman which has a husband that does not believe, if he is pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. ¹⁴ Because the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: Otherwise your children are unclean; but now they are holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: But God has called us to peace. ¹⁶ For how do you know, O wife, whether you shall save your husband? Or how do you know, O man, whether you shall save your wife?

³¹ "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh."

⁴ Marriage is honorable in everyone, and the bed undefiled: But whore-mongers and adulterers God will judge.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ³ And those who are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.

³² And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him: But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come.

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

²⁴ Jesus answering said to them, "Are you not therefore in error, because you do not know the scriptures, nor the power of God?

³⁶ Watch therefore, and pray always, that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."

²⁹ and shall come forth; those that have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

⁴¹ Therefore they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name.

¹⁵ And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.

⁵ Which are a clearly apparent token of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer:

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

⁴ You have a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white: For they are worthy.

⁸ He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and He shall take away the rebuke of His people from off all the earth: For the LORD has spoken it.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be your plagues; O grave, I will be your destruction: Repentance shall be hid from My eyes."

⁷ "Thus says the LORD of hosts; 'If you will walk in My ways, and if you will keep My ordinances, then you shall also judge My house, and shall also keep My courts, and I will give you places to walk among these that stand by.

³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

²⁵ For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

¹⁷ And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if as should be we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. ¹⁸ For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. ¹⁹ For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. ²⁰ For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of Him who has subjected the same in hope, ²¹ because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. ²³ And not only they, but we ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, that is, the redemption of our body.

²⁶ The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

⁴² So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

⁴⁹ And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

⁵² in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: For the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ⁵³ For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. ⁵⁴ So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in victory."

²¹ Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able to even subdue all things to Himself.

¹³ But I would not like you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who are deceased, that you do not sorrow, even as others who have no hope. ¹⁴ For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those which are also deceased in Jesus. ¹⁵ For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall not precede those which are deceased. ¹⁶ For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: And the dead in Christ shall rise first. ¹⁷ Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: And so shall we be with the Lord evermore.

¹ Behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. ² Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: But we know that when He appears, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

⁶ And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth. ⁷ Then He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne. ⁸ And when He had taken the book, the four beasts and twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, every one of them having harps, and golden vials full of incense, which are the prayers of saints. ⁹ And they sang a new song, saying, "You are worthy to take the book, and to open its seals: For You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ and have made us kings and priests to our God: And we shall reign on the earth." ¹¹ Then I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels all around the throne, and the beasts, and the elders: And the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing." ¹³ And I heard every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, saying, "Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be to Him that sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb forever and ever." ¹⁴ And the four beasts said, "Amen." And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped Him that lives forever and ever.

⁹ After this I beheld, and lo, a large multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; ¹⁰ And cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation to our God which sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb." ¹¹ And all the angels stood all around the throne, and around the elders and the four beasts, and fell on their faces before the throne, and worshiped God, ¹² saying, "Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen."

⁶ Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: Upon such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

⁴ And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: For the former things are passed away."

² In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, there was the tree of life, which bore twelve kinds of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: And the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. ³ And there shall be no more curse: But the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him: ⁴ And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: And they shall reign forever and ever.

⁹ Then he said to me, "See that you do not do it: For I am your fellow-servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: Worship God."

⁷ And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your seed after you in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you, and to your seed after you.

¹³ And behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: The land upon which you lie, I will give it to you, and to your seed;

²¹ so that I come back again to my father's house in peace; then the LORD shall be my God:

⁹ And Jacob said, "O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which said to me, 'Return to your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you':

² And the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush: And he looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ And Moses said, "I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." ⁴ And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, "Moses, Moses." And he said, "Here I am." ⁵ And he said, "Do not draw near here: Put off your shoes from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy ground." ⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

¹⁵ And moreover God said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you: This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.'

¹⁶ and for the precious things of the earth and fullness of it, and for the good will of him that dwelled in the bush: Let the blessing come on the head of Joseph, and on the top of the head of him that was separated from his brothers.

³ and sent forth his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding: And they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: Come to the marriage." ' ⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: ⁶ And the rest took his servants, treated them spitefully, and slew them. ⁷ But when the king heard about it, he was wroth: And he sent forth his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you shall find, invite to the marriage.' ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together as many as they all found, both bad and good: And the wedding was furnished with guests. ¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment: ¹² And he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not having a wedding garment?' And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' ¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen." ¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went, and took counsel how they might entangle Him in His speech. ¹⁶ And they sent out to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Master, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; neither do you care for any man: For You do not regard the person of men. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you tempt Me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show Me the tribute money." And they brought to Him a silver coin. ²⁰ And He said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" ²¹ They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "Render therefore to Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's." ²² When they heard these words, they marveled, and left Him, and went their way.

³⁰ "And when forty years were expired, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in the wilderness of Mount Sinai, in a flame of fire in a bush. ³¹ When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: And as he drew near to observe it, the voice of the Lord came to him, ³² saying, 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' Then Moses trembled, and dared not behold.

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: You maintain my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a goodly heritage. ⁷ I will bless the LORD, who has given me counsel: My inner reins also instruct me in the night seasons. ⁸ I have set the LORD always before me: Because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. ⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: My flesh also shall rest in hope. ¹⁰ For You will not leave my soul in hell; neither will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. ¹¹ You will show me the path of life: In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

²³ All you that fear the LORD, praise Him; all you seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and fear Him, all you seed of Israel. ²⁴ For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither has He hid His face from him; but when he cried out to Him, He heard. ²⁵ My praise shall be of You in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before those that fear Him. ²⁶ The meek shall eat and be satisfied: They shall praise the LORD that seek Him: Your heart shall live forever.

¹ David's Psalm of praise. I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. ² Every day I will bless You; and I will praise Your name forever and ever.

⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent Me, and I live by the Father: So he who eats Me, even he shall live by Me.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection, and the life: He that believes in Me, though he were dead, he shall yet live: ²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"

¹⁹ Yet a little while, and the world sees Me no more; but you see Me: Because I live, you shall live also.

¹⁰ For in that He died, He died to sin once: But in that He lives, He lives to God. ¹¹ Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁷ For none of us lives to himself, and no man dies to himself. ⁸ For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord: Whether we therefore live, or die, we are the Lord's. ⁹ Because, for this purpose Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹⁶ And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God; as God has said: "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

⁴ For though He was crucified through weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we shall live with Him by the power of God toward you.

³ For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then you shall also appear with Him in glory.

¹⁶ But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly: Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: For He has prepared a city for them.

¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple: And He that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

³⁴ But when the Pharisees heard that He had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. ³⁵ Then one of them, who was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and saying, ³⁶ "Master, which is the greatest commandment in the law?" ³⁷ Jesus said to him, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ³⁸ This is the first and great commandment. ³⁹ And the second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' ⁴⁰ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the prophets."

²⁸ Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, "Which is the first commandment of all?" ²⁹ And Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is, 'Hear, O Israel; the LORD our God is one LORD: ³⁰ And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength': This is the first commandment. ³¹ And the second is alike, namely this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² Therefore the scribe said to Him, "Well said, Master, You have spoken the truth: For there is one God; and there is no other but He: ³³ And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices." ³⁴ Then when Jesus saw that he answered prudently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no man dared ask Him any question.

⁹ And there arose a loud clamor: And the scribes who were of the Pharisees by occupation arose, and strove, saying, "We find no evil in this man: But if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God."

⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

⁴⁶ And no man was able to answer Him a word, neither did any man ask Him any more questions from that day forward.

³⁴ Then when Jesus saw that he answered prudently, He said to him, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And after that no man dared ask Him any question.

⁶ For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given: And the government shall be upon His shoulder: And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from now on even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: ² And the Spirit of the LORD shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. ⁶ In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: And this is His name by which he shall be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

¹⁵ In those days, and at that time, I will cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. ¹⁶ In those days Judah shall be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: And this is the name with which she shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.'

²¹ then also may My covenant be broken with David My servant, that he should not have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levites the priests, My ministers.

¹ The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham.

⁴¹ While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, ⁴² saying, "What do you think of Christ? Whose Son is He?" They said to Him, "The Son of David." ⁴³ He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call Him 'Lord', saying, ⁴⁴ "The LORD said to my Lord, 'sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool?' " ⁴⁵ If David then calls Him 'Lord', how is He his Son?"

³⁵ Then Jesus answered, while He taught in the temple, and said, "How come the scribes say that Christ is the Son of David? ³⁶ For David himself said by the Holy Spirit, 'The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool." ' ³⁷ Therefore David himself calls Him 'Lord'; how then is He his Son?" And the common people heard Him gladly.

³⁸ Then he cried out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." ³⁹ And those who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: But he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me."

⁴² Has not the scripture said that Christ comes from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, after the flesh, He would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

³ concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; ⁴ and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

¹⁶ "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the Bright and Morning Star."

¹ Now these are the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, "and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said, ² the Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and his word was in my tongue.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool."

²⁰ For it is written in the Book of Psalms, 'Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell in it'; and, 'Let another take his office as a bishop.'

³⁴ "For David is not ascended into the heavens: But he himself said, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, ³⁵ until I make Your enemies Your footstool." '

³³ God has fulfilled the same for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second Psalm, 'You are My Son, this day I have begotten You.' ³⁴ And concerning how He raised Him from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, He spoke in this manner, 'I will give you the sure mercies of David.' ³⁵ Therefore He also says in another Psalm, 'You shall not permit Your Holy One to see corruption.'

²⁵ For He must reign, until He has put all enemies under His feet.

¹³ But to which of the angels has He ever said, "Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool"?

⁷ Therefore (as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you will hear His voice,

¹ Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? ² The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against His anointed, saying, ³ "Let us break their bands apart, and cast away their cords from us." ⁴ He that sits in the heavens shall laugh: The LORD shall have them in derision. ⁵ Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and vex them in His sore displeasure. ⁶ "Yet I have set My king upon My holy hill of Zion." ⁷ "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son; this day I have begotten You.

⁸ Your hand shall find out all Your enemies: Your right hand shall find out those that hate You. ⁹ You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger: The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them. ¹⁰ You shall destroy their fruit from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. ¹¹ For they intended evil against You: They imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform. ¹² Therefore You shall make them turn their back, when You shall make ready Your arrows upon Your strings against the face of them.

⁹ Those that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before Him; and His enemies shall lick the dust.

⁴ For my love they are my adversaries: But I give myself to prayer. ⁵ And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. ⁶ Set a wicked man over him: And let Satan stand at his right hand. ⁷ When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: And let his prayer become sin. ⁸ Let his days be few; and let another take his office. ⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; let them also seek their bread out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he has; and let the strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: Neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be continually be before the LORD, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth ¹⁶ Because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. ¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: As he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing as with a garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garment which covers him, and for a girdle with which he is continually girded. ²⁰ Let this be the reward of my adversaries from the LORD, and of those who speak evil against my soul.

⁵ The LORD at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath. ⁶ He shall judge among the heathen, He shall fill the places with the dead bodies; He shall wound the heads over many countries.

¹⁴ And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. ¹⁵ And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: And He shall rule them with a rod of iron: And He treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. ¹⁶ And He has on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. ¹⁷ Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; ¹⁸ that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses, and of those that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great." ¹⁹ And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him that sat on the horse, and against His army. ²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. ²¹ And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: And all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

²³ "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel", which being interpreted is, "God with us."

³¹ And behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: And the Lord God shall give to Him the throne of His father David: ³³ And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His kingdom there shall be no end." ³⁴ Then Mary said to the angel, "How shall this be, seeing I have not known a man?" ³⁵ And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow you: Therefore that Holy One which shall be born of you shall also be called the Son of God.

¹¹ For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.

⁵ whose are the fathers, and from whom as far as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen among angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

¹⁰ Then He called the multitude, and said to them, "Hear and understand:

¹ Then Jesus spoke to the multitude, and to His disciples, ² saying, "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men: They make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the borders of their garments. ⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ greetings in the markets, and to be called by men, 'Rabbi, Rabbi.'

³⁴ And when He had called the people to Him with His disciples also, He said to them, "Whoever is willing to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

³⁸ Then He said to them in His doctrine, "Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, love salutations in the marketplaces, ³⁹ the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

²⁰ Rebuke those that sin before everyone, that others also may fear.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: But honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

¹⁵ And He charged them, saying, "Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod."

⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

¹ In the meantime, when there was an innumerable multitude of people gathered together, so that they trod upon one another, He began to say first of all to His disciples, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

⁷ And He put forth a parable to those who were called, when He noted how they chose the uppermost rooms; saying to them,

¹⁰ Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vain-glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves. ⁴ Let not every man look upon his own things, but every man also after the things of others. ⁵ Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

¹⁵ Of whom you beware also; for he has greatly withstood our words.

⁹ I wrote to the church: But Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.

² to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: ⁷ Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, forever and ever. ⁸ Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit. ⁹ Will you steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know; ¹⁰ and come and stand before Me in this house, which is called by My name, and say, 'We are delivered to do all these abominations?'

⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.

³¹ And they come to you according to the coming of the people, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

⁷ that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: And a man and his father will go in to the same maid, to profane My holy name:

⁴ Hear this, O you that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail, ⁵ saying, "When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? And the Sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?new moon; or, month ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yes, and sell the refuse of the wheat?"

² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: So they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.oppress; or, defraud

⁸ Even of late My people are risen up as an enemy: You pull off the robe with the garment from those that pass by securely, as men averse from war.

² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;

²² But I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment, than for you. ²³ And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, shall be brought down to hell: For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ²⁴ But I say to you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for you."

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

²⁶ You blind Pharisee, first cleanse that which is inside the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are similar to whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

⁴⁰ Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers: These shall receive greater damnation."

¹² But I say to you, That it shall be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom, than for that city. ¹³ Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented a long while ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.

⁴⁷ And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and did not prepare himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. ⁴⁸ But he that did not know, and committed things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with a few stripes. For to whomever much is given, from him much shall be required: And to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask all the more.

⁵ Seeing we did not use flattering words at any time, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness; God is witness:

² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, ³ without natural affection, truce-breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those who are good, ⁴ traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; ⁵ having a form of godliness, but denying the power of it: From such turn away. ⁶ For of this sort are those that creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with diverse lusts,

¹⁶ They profess that they know God; but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and reprobate to every good work.

¹ My brethren, do not be many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
