"

² And Abram said, "Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?"

¹⁹ And they came near to the steward of Joseph's house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

¹ And David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies that ministered to the king by course, and the captains over the thousands, and captains over the hundreds, and the stewards over all the substance and possession of the king, and of his sons, with the officers, and with the mighty men, and with all the valiant men, to Jerusalem.

⁹ He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

⁸ For she did not know that I gave her grain, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

²³ Therefore the kingdom of heaven is likened to a certain king, who would take account of his servants. ²⁴ And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him, who owed him ten thousand talents.1 talent is 750 ounces of silver; hence 10,000 talents is ~212.6 metric tons of silver.

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered his goods to them. ¹⁵ And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his distinct ability; and immediately took his journey.1 talent is 750 ounces of silver; hence five talents is ~234.4 pounds of silver, two talents is ~93.8 pounds of silver, and one talent is ~46.9 pounds of silver. ¹⁶ Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made with them another five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he who had received two, he also gained another two. ¹⁸ But he who had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ After a long time the lord of those servants came, and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents: Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them. ²¹ His lord said to him, 'Well done, you good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²² He also who had received two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents: Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.' ²³ His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: Look, there you have what is yours.' ²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed: ²⁷ Therefore you ought to have put my money with the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received back my own with interest. ²⁸ Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ²⁹ For to everyone that has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance: But from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away. ³⁰ And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, who ministered to Him out of their substance.

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹³ And not many days after the younger son gathered everything together, he took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his goods with riotous living.

³⁰ But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your estate with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.'

²⁰ Then another came, saying, 'Lord, behold, here is your pound of silver, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

¹ Let a man so account for us, as ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. ² Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.

⁷ For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not soon angry, not given to wine, doesn't strike others, not given to filthy profit;

³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may consume it upon your lusts.

¹⁰ As every man has received the gift, even so minister the same to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

⁹ And the LORD God called to Adam, and said to him, "Where are you?" ¹⁰ And he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself." ¹¹ And He said, "Who told you that you were naked? ²³ And he said to them, "Why do you do such things? For I hear of your evil dealings by all this people. ²⁴ No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: You make the LORD's people to transgress.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: But know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. ¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, and put away evil from your flesh: For childhood and youth are vanity.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

³⁶ But I say to you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account of it in the day of judgment.

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²¹ For I feared you, because you are an austere man: You take up that which you did not lay down, and reap what you did not sow.' ²² And he said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, taking up that which I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow: ²³ Why then did you not give my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have claimed my own with interest?' ²⁴ And he said to those that stood by, 'Take the pound of silver from him, and give it to him that has ten pounds.' ²⁵ (Then they said to him, 'Lord, he has ten pounds of silver.') ²⁶ For I say to you, That to everyone who has, more shall be given; and from him that does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

¹² So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

¹¹ For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those who are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

² Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to what he has done, whether it is good or bad.

¹⁴ Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.

²⁴ Some men's sins are clearly evident, going before them to judgment; and the evidence against some men follows afterwards.

⁵ Who shall give an account to Him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said to him, "What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?" Now Haman thought in his heart, "To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?"

⁴ The soul of the sluggard desires, and has nothing: But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

¹⁹ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns: But the way of the righteous is made plain.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

⁴ The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

²⁵ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labor. ²⁶ He covets greedily all the day long: But the righteous gives and spares not.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ and, look, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come as one that travels abroad; and your want as an armed man.

¹³ The slothful man says, "There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets." ¹⁴ As the door turns upon its hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it back again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

²³ Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and look well to your herds. ²⁴ For riches are not forever: And does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The hay appears, and the tender grass shows itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. ²⁶ The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. ²⁷ And you shall have enough goats' milk for your food, for the food of your household, and for the sustenance of your maidens.

²¹ He that delicately brings up his servant from a child shall have him become his son in the end.

³ And what will all of you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your glory?

³¹ the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and My people love to have it so: And what will you do in the end of it?'

⁵ What will you do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

⁴⁶ And they came to Jericho: Then as He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a large number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the side of the highway begging.

¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have no room where to stow my fruits?'

²⁰ Also there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores,

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: The rich man also died, and was buried;

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, not working at all, but are busybodies.

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny You, and say, 'Who is the LORD?' Or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

²² "For my people are foolish, they have not known Me; they are silly children, and they have no understanding: They are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge."

¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

⁴¹ "There was a certain creditor who had two debtors: The one owed five hundred silver coins, and the other fifty. ⁴² And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me therefore, which of them will love him most?"

⁵ Will you set your eyes upon that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

¹ Cast your bread upon the waters: For you shall find it after many days.

³ In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened, ⁴ and the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low; ⁵ also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: Because man goes to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: ⁶ Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. ⁷ Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

¹⁶ For I will not contend forever, neither will I always be wroth: For the spirit would fail before Me, and the souls which I have made.

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you do not hide yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: And your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear-guard.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility."

¹⁹ Do not store up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust corrupts, and where thieves break in and steal:

²⁴ No one can serve two masters: For either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

²¹ Jesus said to Him, "If you desire to be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: And come and follow Me."

³⁵ For I was hungry, and you gave Me food: I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me in: ³⁶ Naked, and you clothed Me: I was sick, and you visited Me: I was in prison, and you came to Me.' ³⁷ Then the righteous shall answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You? Or thirsty, and gave You a drink?' ³⁸ When did we see You a stranger, and take You in? Or naked, and clothe You? ³⁹ Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and came to You?' ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, 'Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you have done it to one of the least of these My brethren, you have done it to Me.'

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

³³ Sell what you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which do not wax old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

¹⁴ And you shall be blessed; for they cannot recompense you: For you shall be recompensed at the resurrection of the just."

⁴ And when he looked at him, he was afraid, and said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and your charitable alms have come up as a memorial before God.

³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your charitable alms are in remembrance in the sight of God.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

¹² For the administration of this service not only supplies the lack of the saints, but also is abundant through many thanksgivings to God; ¹³ While through the proof of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution to them, and to all men; ¹⁴ and by their prayer for you, who long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift.

⁹ But those that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: Which while coveting after, some have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they are not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy; ¹⁸ that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; ¹⁹ laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

¹⁶ The Lord give mercy to the house of Onesiphorus; for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: ¹⁷ But when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me. ¹⁸ The Lord grant to him that he may find mercy from the Lord in that day: And you know very well in how many things he ministered to me at Ephesus.

²¹ keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.

²⁷ Then after the dipped bread, Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."

² Who was faithful to Him that appointed Him, as also Moses was faithful in all His house.

¹⁸ Riches and honor are with me; yes, durable riches and righteousness. ¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

²² Now when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, "You still lack one thing: Sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: And come, follow Me."

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all saints, this grace is given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?

¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with eye-salve, that you may see.

¹⁴ But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of you, and of your own have we given you. ¹⁵ For we are strangers before you, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: Our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. ¹⁶ O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build you a house for your holy name comes of your hand, and is all your own.

²¹ and said, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

¹⁶ And you took from your garments, and decked your high places with various colors, and played the harlot upon them: Things which should not come, neither should they be so. ¹⁷ You have also taken your fair jewels of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made to yourself images of men, and did commit whoredom with them, ¹⁸ and took your broidered garments, and covered them: And you have set My oil and My incense before them. ¹⁹ Also My meat which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, with which I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet smell: And thus it was", said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ "Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to Me, and you have sacrificed these ones to them to be devoured. Are your whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that you have slain My children, and delivered and caused these ones to pass through the fire for them?

¹⁴ For the kingdom of heaven is like a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered his goods to them. ¹⁵ And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his distinct ability; and immediately took his journey.1 talent is 750 ounces of silver; hence five talents is ~234.4 pounds of silver, two talents is ~93.8 pounds of silver, and one talent is ~46.9 pounds of silver. ¹⁶ Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made with them another five talents. ¹⁷ And likewise he who had received two, he also gained another two. ¹⁸ But he who had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. ¹⁹ After a long time the lord of those servants came, and settled accounts with them. ²⁰ And so he who had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, 'Lord, you delivered to me five talents: Behold, I have gained five more talents besides them. ²¹ His lord said to him, 'Well done, you good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²² He also who had received two talents came and said, 'Lord, you delivered to me two talents: Behold, I have gained two other talents besides them.' ²³ His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.' ²⁴ Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed: ²⁵ And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the earth: Look, there you have what is yours.' ²⁶ His lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and slothful servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed: ²⁷ Therefore you ought to have put my money with the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received back my own with interest. ²⁸ Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ²⁹ For to everyone that has, more shall be given, and he shall have abundance: But from him who does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away.

⁴² But one thing is necessary: And Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

¹³ Also he called his ten servants, delivered to them ten pounds of silver, and said to them, 'Occupy until I come.'pounds: Greek or Attic mina, here translated as pound, is estimated at ~15.2 oz or ~431 grams per Encyclopedia Britannica ¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, 'We will not have this man to reign over us.' ¹⁵ And it came to pass, that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants to be called to him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. ¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, 'Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds.' ¹⁷ And he said to him, 'Well done, good servant: Because you have been faithful in a very little, you have authority over ten cities.' ¹⁸ And the second came, saying, 'Lord, your pound has gained five pounds.' ¹⁹ And He said likewise to him, 'You also be over five cities.' ²⁰ Then another came, saying, 'Lord, behold, here is your pound of silver, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

³ For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. ⁴ When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then you shall also appear with Him in glory.

⁴ to an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation, ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹⁵ And if it seem evil to you to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to Him, "Get away from here, Satan: For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only shall you serve.' "

⁵⁰ But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him: For he that is not against us is for us."

²³ He who is not with Me is against Me: And he that does not gather with Me scatters.

²⁶ "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.

¹⁶ Do you not know that to whom you yield yourselves as servants to obey, you are his servants whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? ¹⁷ But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered to you. ¹⁸ Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: For as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness, and to iniquity onto more iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness onto holiness. ²⁰ For when you were servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. ²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now being made free from sin, and having become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end everlasting life.

⁵ For those that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but those that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. ⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: For it is not subject to the law of God, indeed neither can be. ⁸ So then, those that are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁴ You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

¹⁵ But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: Yes, the attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it; they tore at me, and did not cease: ¹⁶ As with hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

⁵¹ The proud have held me in utter derision: Yet I have not declined from Your law.

³ He is despised and rejected by men; a Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: And we hid our faces from Him as it were; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

¹¹ Yes, they are greedy dogs who can never have enough, and they are shepherds who cannot understand: They all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.

¹³ "For from the least of them even to the greatest of them everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall inherit them: For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.

⁷ O LORD, you have deceived me, and I was deceived; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocks me. ⁸ For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst of her, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst of her. ²⁶ Her priests have violated My law, and have profaned My holy things: They have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they showed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her princes in the middle of her are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies to them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD', when the LORD has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: Yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

³¹ And they come to you according to the coming of the people, and they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they will not do them: For with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: For you neither go in yourselves, nor do you permit those who are entering to go in.

⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: For a man's life does not subsist in the abundance of the things which he possesses."

⁴⁷ which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: The same shall receive greater damnation."

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them ridiculed Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He is Christ, the chosen of God."

² For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of chains and imprisonment:

² looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. ³ For consider Him that endured such contradiction from sinners against Himself, lest you be wearied and faint in your minds.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that You prove the heart through testing, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: And now I have seen with joy Your people, which are present here, to offer willingly to You.

³⁰ Then hear you from heaven your dwelling place, and forgive, and render to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know; (for you only know are the hearts of the children of men before Him):

⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: For the righteous God proves the hearts and inner reins through testing.

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors.

¹³ Their way is their folly: Yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul: And men will praise you when you do well to yourself.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me, and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off.

⁵ Everyone that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

⁶ Most men will each proclaim his own goodness: But who can find a faithful man?

² Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: But the LORD ponders the hearts.

¹⁰ Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. ¹¹ "To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" said the LORD: "I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of he-goats. ¹² When you come to appear before Me, who has required this at your hand, to tread My courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination to Me; the new moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away endure; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. ¹⁴ My soul hates your new moons and your appointed feasts: They are a trouble to me; I am weary to bear them.

¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell scents in your solemn assemblies.solemn assemblies; or, holy days ²² Though you offer me burnt offerings and your food offerings, I will not accept them: Neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat domestic beasts.peace offerings; or, thank offerings

¹⁵ And now we call the proud happy; yes, those that work wickedness are established; yes, those that tempt God are even delivered.' "

² Therefore, when you do your charitable deeds, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

⁵ And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

¹⁶ Moreover, when you fast, do not be as the hypocrites, with a sad countenance: For they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to be fasting. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

⁵ But they do all their works to be seen by men: They make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the borders of their garments.

²⁵ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but inside they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee, first cleanse that which is inside the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are similar to whitened sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

³⁹ And the Lord said to him, "Now you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

²¹ And he said, "All these things I have kept from my youth up."

²⁰ Therefore they watched Him, and sent forth spies, who would feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of His words, so that they might deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor.

²⁵ and did not need from man that any should testify: For He knew what was in man.

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

¹⁸ Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst apart in the middle, and all his bowels gushed out.

⁸ Also God, which knows the hearts, bore witness to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as He did to us;

²⁰ Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh shall be justified in His sight: For by the law is the knowledge of sin.

²¹ Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered Isaac his son upon the altar? ²² Do you see how faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him as righteousness": And he was called the Friend of God. ²⁴ You see then how a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. ²⁵ Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

⁴ but let it be the hidden woman of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great value in the sight of God.

⁵ Likewise you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility: For "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the inner reins and hearts: And I will give to every one of you according to your works.

² and saying, "Repent: For the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

¹⁷ From that time on Jesus began to preach, and to say, "Repent: For the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

²³ Then Jesus went all around Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all sorts of disease among the people.

⁷ And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And more than a prophet. ¹⁰ For this is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You.' ¹¹ Truly I say to you, Among those that are born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than him. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if you will receive it, this is Elijah, who was to come beforehand.

³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: But the publicans and the harlots believed him: And you, when you had seen it, did not repent afterward, that you might believe him.

¹⁴ Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

⁴⁵ But he went out, and began to proclaim it often, and to spread the matter abroad, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter into the city, but was outside in deserted places: And they came to Him from every quarter.

²⁶ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, And much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he, of whom it is written, 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, which shall prepare Your way before You.' ²⁸ For I say to you, Among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: But he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And all the people who heard Him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

² And He sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

⁹ And heal the sick that are there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

¹¹ 'Even the very dust of your city, which sticks on us, we wipe off against you: Nevertheless be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near to you.'

²⁹ Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'

³¹ But he said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead.' "

⁴⁵ Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, "We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."

⁴⁸ If we let Him alone after that, all men will believe upon Him: And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation."

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "Do you perceive how you prevail in nothing? Behold, the world has gone after Him."

¹⁸ But those things, which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that Christ should suffer, He has thus fulfilled.

²⁴ Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that followed after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days. ²⁵ You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.'

²⁵ Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth: And the heavens are the work of Your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but You shall endure: Yes, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture You shall change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But You are the same, and Your years shall have no end.

⁸ The grass withers, the flower fades: But the word of our God shall stand forever."

⁶ Lift up your eyes to heaven, and look upon the earth beneath: For heaven shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they who dwell in it shall die in like manner: But My salvation shall be forever, and My righteousness shall not be abolished.

¹⁸ For truly I say to you, Until heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall by no means pass from the law, until all is fulfilled.

³³ Heaven and earth shall pass away: But My words shall not pass away.

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: Indeed, we establish the law.

²⁵ But the word of the LORD endures forever." And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are in it shall be burned up.

¹¹ And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

¹ And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: For the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

⁴ And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: For the former things are passed away."

³¹ It has been said, 'Whoever puts away his wife, let him give her a written petition of divorce': ³² But I say to you, That whoever puts away his wife, except for the cause of fornication, causes her to commit adultery: And whoever marries her that is divorced commits adultery.

⁹ And I say to you, Whoever puts away his wife, except if it be for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery: And whoever marries her that is put away commits adultery."

¹¹ And He said to them, "Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her. ¹² And if a woman puts away her husband, and marries another, she commits adultery."

⁴ The wife does not have power of her own body, but the husband does: And likewise also the husband does not have power of his own body, but the wife does.

¹⁰ Now to the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: And do not let the husband put away his wife. ¹² But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she is pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

²⁶ And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple clothing that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels' necks.

¹⁵ And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: And the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

¹¹ They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance. ¹² They take the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ. ¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

¹³ Thus were you decked with gold and silver; and your clothing was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you ate fine flour, and honey, and oil: And you were exceeding beautiful, and you did prosper into a kingdom.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

⁷ Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that with which you spread forth to be your sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered you.

⁴ that lie on beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ that chant to the sound of the viol, and invent instruments of music for themselves, like David; ⁶ that drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: But they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

¹⁷ Then they clothed Him with purple, platted a crown of thorns, and put it around His head,

²⁰ And when they had mocked Him, they took the purple off of Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.

¹⁶ Moreover He spoke a parable to them, saying, "The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I have no room where to stow my fruits?' ¹⁸ So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there I will stow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have a great many goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry." ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?' ²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

¹ Moreover He also said to His disciples, "There was a certain rich man which had a steward; and the same stewart was accused to him that he had wasted his goods.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, He said, "How hardly shall those that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. ⁵ You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colors, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication:

⁷ To the degree she has glorified herself, and lived deliciously, give her that much torment and sorrow: For she says in her heart, 'I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.'

¹⁶ and saying, 'Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!

⁸ He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: For the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and He has set the world upon them.

⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivers him out of them all.

¹⁴ For all the day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.

⁶ From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrefying sores: They have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

²² Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is the health of the daughter of My people not recovered?

²¹ and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores.

³⁵ Now it came to pass, that as He was coming near Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the roadside begging: ³⁶ And hearing the multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. ³⁷ And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. ³⁸ Then he cried out, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me." ³⁹ And those who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: But he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me." ⁴⁰ Now Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be brought to Him: And when he had come near, He asked him, ⁴¹ saying, "What is your will that I should do to you?" And he said, "Lord, that I may receive my sight." ⁴² Then Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight: Your faith has saved you." ⁴³ And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God: And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

¹ Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

²⁷ And she said, "True, Lord: Yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table."

²⁸ And she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord: Yet the dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs."

¹² When they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing is lost."

¹¹ Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place;

²⁷ in weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

³⁴ And when he was come in, he ate and drink, and said, "Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: For she is a king's daughter. ³⁵ And they went to bury her: But they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.

¹³ For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: Then had I been at rest, ¹⁴ with kings and counsellors of the earth, which build desolate places for themselves; ¹⁵ or with princes that had gold, who filled their houses with silver: ¹⁶ Or as a hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light. ¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary be at rest. ¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. ¹⁹ The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.

³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. ³¹ Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done? ³² Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.

⁶ Those that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever): ⁹ That he should still live forever, and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. ¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. ¹² Nevertheless, man being in honor does not remain: He is like the beasts that perish.

¹⁸ Surely you have set them in slippery places: You cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when You awake, you shall despise their image.

¹¹ For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. ¹² They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death.

¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: This also is vanity.

¹⁸ All the kings of the nations, even all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house.

¹⁶ 'What do you have here? And whom do you have here, that you have hewed yourself out a sepulcher here, as he who hews himself out a sepulcher on high, and who engraves a habitation for himself in a rock?'

¹ The righteous perishes, and no man takes it to heart: And merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. ² He shall enter into peace: They shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

¹¹ And I say to you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

³⁸ the field is the world; the good seeds are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; ³⁹ the enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. ⁴⁰ Therefore, as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so it shall be at the end of this world. ⁴¹ The Son of Man shall send forth His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those which do iniquity; ⁴² and shall cast them into a furnace of fire: There shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. ⁴³ Then the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁰ Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I say to you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.

³¹ And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?

²³ Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is he that betrays You?"

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation?

¹⁴ Since then, as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, then it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of its fashion perishes: So also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

²⁴ Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live on to righteousness: By whose stripes you were healed.

¹³ Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from this time forward' ": "Yes", says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

¹⁰ For You will not leave my soul in hell; neither will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: For He shall receive me. Selah.

¹³ For great is Your mercy toward me: And You have delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

⁵ Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

²⁷ Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.

¹⁸ But he does not know that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

²⁴ The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

⁹ Hell from beneath is moved for you to meet you at your coming: It stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

²² But I say to you, That whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: And whoever shall say to his brother, 'You vain fellow' shall be in danger of the council: But whoever says, 'You fool', shall be in danger of hell fire.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

¹¹ And I say to you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. ¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?

²³ And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven, shall be brought down to hell: For if the mighty works which have been done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

⁹ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and throw it away from you: It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape the damnation of hell?

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, "What have I to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God most high? I beseech You, do not torment me."

²⁸ There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. ²⁹ And they shall come from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

²⁸ For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'

⁵⁵ "O Death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?"

⁴ For if God did not spare the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

¹⁰ the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: ¹¹ And the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever: And they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name."

¹⁰ And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night forever and ever.

¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead that were in them: And they were judged, every man according to their works. ¹⁴ Then death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

¹⁶ Then said Samuel, "Why then do you ask of me, seeing the LORD has departed from you, and has become your enemy?

¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: The women come, and set them on fire: For it is a people of no understanding: Therefore He that made them will not have mercy on them, and He that formed them will show them no favor.

¹⁷ When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the middle of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, My servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry: Behold, My servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty: Behold, My servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed: ¹⁴ Behold, My servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

²⁴ "And they shall go forth, and look on the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me: For their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh."

¹² And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

⁹ And do not think to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

⁴¹ Then He shall say also to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁴³ And if your hand causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life maimed, than to go into hell having two hands, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁴ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to be cast into hell having two feet, into the fire that shall never be quenched: ⁴⁶ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁷ And if your eye causes you to offend, pluck it out: It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to be cast into hell fire having two eyes: ⁴⁸ Where 'Their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.' ⁴⁹ For everyone shall be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice shall be seasoned with salt.

⁸ Therefore bring forth fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father': For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

³⁰ And he said, 'No, father Abraham: But if one went to them from the dead, they will repent.'

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, 'Give Me a drink'; you would have asked of Him, and He would have given you living water."

¹⁴ But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

³⁷ On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If any man thirsts, let him come to Me, and drink.

³³ They answered Him, "We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: How come You say, 'You shall be made free'?" ³⁴ Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. ³⁵ And the servant does not abide in the house forever: But the Son abides evermore. ³⁶ Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. ³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's seed; but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. ³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with My Father: And you do that which you have seen with your father." ³⁹ They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.

⁵³ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead: Who do You make Yourself out to be?" ⁵⁴ Jesus answered, "If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing: It is My Father that honors Me; of whom you say that He is your God. ⁵⁵ Yet you have not known Him; but I know Him: And if I should say, 'I do not know Him', I would be a liar like you: But I know Him, and keep His sayings. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day; and he saw it, and was glad."

¹² And the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had while still uncircumcised.

⁷ Neither are they all children because they are the seed of Abraham: But, "In Isaac shall your seed be called." ⁸ That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: But the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

⁸ in flaming fire taking vengeance on those that do not know God, and that do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹³ For he that has shown no mercy shall have judgment without mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: Thus is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

¹⁵ And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

¹³ They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. ¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways.

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and see, he was not there: Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

They are utterly consumed with terrors.

⁷ Jerusalem remembered in the days of her affliction and of her miseries all her pleasant things that she had in the days of old, when her people fell into the hand of the enemy, and no one helped her: The adversaries saw her, and mocked at her Sabbaths.

²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified:

³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

⁴⁵ And if your foot causes you to offend, cut it off: It is better for you to enter into life crippled, than to be cast into hell having two feet, into the fire that shall never be quenched:

²⁴ But woe to you that are rich! For you have received your consolation.

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

³³ These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

²² confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: For it is not subject to the law of God, indeed neither can be.

³ That no man should be moved by these afflictions: For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.

²⁵ choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

¹⁵ Do not love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: Therefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.

¹⁴ Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.

²² Now consider this, you that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

²⁴ And there shall be no longer a pricking brier to the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn from all who are around them, who despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD."

¹⁸ Then you all shall return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that does not serve Him.

⁴⁶ And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: But the righteous into life eternal."

⁵⁹ I tell you, you shall not depart from that place, until you have paid the very last small bronze coin."small bronze coin: In KJV, mite; which was equivalent to 1/8'th of an assarius "as" coin during Roman times.

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

⁴ so that we ourselves exult with joy about you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure: ⁵ Which are a clearly apparent token of the righteous judgment of God, that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer: ⁶ Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you; ⁷ and to you who are troubled, rest with us; when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, ⁸ in flaming fire taking vengeance on those that do not know God, and that do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: ⁹ Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power; ¹⁰ when He shall come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all those that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, then it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of its fashion perishes: So also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. ¹² Blessed is the man that endures temptation: For when he is approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

¹¹ He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: And he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: And he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: And he that is holy, let him be holy still."

¹² Nevertheless, man being in honor does not remain: He is like the beasts that perish. ¹³ Their way is their folly: Yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.

⁴⁰ And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation."

²³ Except that the Holy Spirit witnesses in every city, saying that chains and afflictions await me.

⁶ That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: Because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we have also forewarned you and testified.

²⁰ To the law and to the testimony: If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

¹⁶ Seek out of the book of the LORD, and read: Not one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: For My mouth has commanded it, and His spirit has gathered them.

² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. ³ And all of you shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this", says the LORD of hosts. ⁴ "Remember the law of Moses My servant, all of you, which I commanded to him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

¹⁷ And the book of the prophet Isaiah was delivered to Him. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written,

¹⁶ The Law and the prophets were until John: Since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presses into it.

²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded to them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself.

³⁹ Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: And these are they which testify of Me. ⁴⁰ And you are not willing to come to Me, that you might have life. ⁴¹ I do not receive honor from men. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. ⁴³ I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me: If another shall come in his own name, him you will receive. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from God only? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: There is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust. ⁴⁶ For had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: For he wrote of Me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how shall you believe My words?"

²¹ For since old times there is in every city those who preach Moses, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath day."

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether these things were so. ¹² Therefore many of them believed; including honorable women who were Greeks, and not just a few men.

¹⁵ and that from childhood you have known the Holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: ¹⁷ That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished for all good works.

¹⁹ We also have a more sure word of prophecy; which you do well that you take heed of, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the day star arise in your hearts: ²⁰ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. ²¹ For in old times the prophecy did not come by the will of man: But holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'

⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which has power over these plagues: And they did not repent to give Him glory. ¹⁰ And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues out of pain, ¹¹ and blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

²⁷ God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant."

⁴³ And when He had spoken in this manner, He cried out with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" ⁴⁴ And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: And his face was bound around with a handkerchief. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go." ⁴⁵ Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on Him. ⁴⁶ But some of them went their way to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What shall we do? For this Man does many miracles. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone after that, all men will believe upon Him: And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation." ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, "You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish." ⁵¹ Now this he did not speak of himself: But being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; ⁵² and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad. ⁵³ Then, from that day forward they took counsel together with the intent to put Him to death.

¹⁰ But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus to death also; ¹¹ because on account of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

⁸ And he went into the synagogue, and spoke boldly for a span of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

²⁸ Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You almost persuade me to be a Christian."

²³ And when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the Law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning until evening.

³ But if our gospel is hid, it is hid to those that are lost:

¹¹ Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I also trust are made manifest in your consciences.
