⁴ And I gave to Isaac Jacob and Esau: And I gave to Esau Mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

²⁴ And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. ²⁵ And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. ²⁶ And after that his brother came out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: And Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

³ And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

⁸ Thus Esau dwelled in Mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

¹ And Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. ² And God spoke to Israel in the visions of the night, and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am." ³ And he said, "I am God, the God of your father: Do not fear to go down into Egypt; for there I will make a great nation of you: ⁴ I will go down with you into Egypt; and I will surely also bring you up again: And Joseph shall put his hand upon your eyes." ⁵ And Jacob rose up from Beersheba: And the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, and their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. ⁶ And they took their domestic beasts, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his seed with him: ⁷ His sons, and his sons' sons with him, his daughters, and his sons' daughters, and all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.

⁵ Meddle not with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

²³ Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham.
