¹ Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, ² can a man be profitable to God, as he that is wise may be profitable to himself? ³ Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? Or is it gain to him, that you make your ways perfect? ⁴ Will he reprove you for fear of you? Will he enter with you into judgment? ⁵ Is not your wickedness great? And your iniquities infinite? ⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelled in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you; ¹¹ or darkness, that you cannot see; and abundance of waters cover you. ¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And you say, "How does God know? Can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood: ¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them? ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad: And the innocent laugh them to scorn. ²⁰ Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes. ²¹ Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace: By this good shall come to you. ²² Receive, I implore you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles. ²⁴ Then you shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yes, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you: And the light shall shine on your ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then you shall say, "There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent: And it is delivered by the pureness of your hands.

¹³ to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command you this day for your good?

¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

⁶ If you sin, what do you against him? Or if your transgressions be multiplied, what do you to him? ⁷ If you be righteous, what give you him? Or what receives he of your hand? ⁸ Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are; and your righteousness may profit the son of man.

² O my soul, you have said to the LORD, "You are my Lord: My goodness cannot stretch to reach You";

¹³ Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. ¹⁴ For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and its gain than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: And all the things you can desire are not to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her: And happy is everyone that retains her.

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: She shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: A crown of glory she shall deliver to you.

¹² If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself: But if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.

¹¹ Wisdom with an inheritance is good: And by it there is profit to those who see the sun. ¹² For wisdom is a defense, and money is a defense: But the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.

²⁹ And if your right eye causes you to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from you: For it is better for you that one of your members should perish, and not that your whole body should be cast into hell.

¹⁰ So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants: We have done what was our duty to do.' "

⁷ Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: For whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that You prove the heart through testing, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: And now I have seen with joy Your people, which are present here, to offer willingly to You.

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take: When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹ My foot has held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. ¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹ To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David. I said, "I will take heed to my ways, that I do not sin with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked are before me."

³ They also do no iniquity: They walk in His ways. ⁴ You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently. ⁵ O that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! ⁶ Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have respect to all Your commandments.

⁵⁹ I thought upon my ways, and turned my feet to Your testimonies.

¹⁰ He delights not in the strength of the horse: He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy.

¹ A false balance is abomination to the LORD: But a just weight is His delight.

²⁰ Those that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: But such as are upright in their way are His delight.

²² Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: But those that deal truly are His delight.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: But the prayer of the upright is His delight.

¹⁷ You all have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet all you say, "In what have we wearied Him?" When you all say, "Everyone that does evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delights in them"; or, "Where is the God of judgment?"

¹⁶ And in this I exercise myself, to always have a conscience void of offense toward God, and toward men.

¹ Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁸ But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, a sweet smelling savor, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

¹² Am I a sea, or a whale, that you set a watch over me?

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, see, he is strong: And if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

³ And does you open your eyes upon such an one, and bring me into judgment with you?

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

²⁹ Be you afraid of the sword: For wrath brings the punishments of the sword, that you may know there is a judgment.

⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

²³ For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

¹¹ When You correct man for iniquity with rebukes, You make his beauty to consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

⁶ At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.

¹⁶ It is burned with fire, it is cut down: They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

³ If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? ⁴ But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

² And do not enter into judgment with Your servant: For in Your sight no man living shall be justified.

¹⁴ For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of His people, and with their princes: "For you have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses. ¹⁵ What do you mean that you beat My people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor?" said the Lord GOD of hosts.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.

⁷ Remember, I implore you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off? ⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

⁶ and that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves.

¹⁴ if iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles.

⁵ For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ Your own mouth condemns you, and not I: Yes, your own lips testify against you.

³¹ Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: For vanity shall be his recompense. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

¹² Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.

¹² For innumerable evils have compassed around me: My iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head: Therefore my heart fails me.

²⁶ If you take any of your neighbor's clothing to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by that time the sun goes down:

⁶ No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: For he takes a man's life to pledge.

¹⁰ When you do lend your brother anything, you shall not go into his house to fetch his pledge. ¹¹ You shall stand abroad, and the man to whom you do lend shall bring out the pledge abroad to you. ¹² And if the man be poor, you shall not sleep with his pledge: ¹³ In any case you shall deliver him the pledge again when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his own clothing, and bless you: And it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God. ¹⁴ You shall not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of your brothers, or of your strangers that are in your land within your gates: ¹⁵ At his day you shall give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down on it; for he is poor, and sets his heart on it: Lest he cry against you to the LORD, and it be sin to you. ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: Every man shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ You shall not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow's clothing to pledge: ¹⁸ But you shall remember that you were a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD your God redeemed you there: Therefore I command you to do this thing.

³ They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor. ¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁷ and has not oppressed any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has spoiled none by violence, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

¹² has oppressed the poor and needy, has spoiled by violence, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination,

¹⁶ neither has oppressed any, has not withheld the pledge, neither has spoiled by violence, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment,

⁸ And they lay themselves down upon clothes laid in pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god.

⁷ If there be among you a poor man of one of your brothers within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother: ⁸ But you shall open your hand wide to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wants. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, "The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to the LORD against you, and it be sin to you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him: Because that for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land: Therefore I command you, saying, "You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land.

¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it;

³¹ If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! We cannot be satisfied.

⁹ He has dispersed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

²⁴ There is that which scatters, and yet increases; and there is that which withholds more than is right, but it tends to poverty. ²⁵ The soul that blesses shall be made fat: And he that waters shall also be watered himself.

¹⁷ He that has pity upon the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given He will repay him again.

⁷ Is it not to deal your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you do not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁰ and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then your light shall rise in obscurity, and your darkness be like the noon day:

⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave Me no food: I was thirsty, and you gave Me no drink:

²⁰ Therefore "If your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him a drink: For in so doing you shall heap coals of fire upon his head."

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. ¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth is stoned, and is dead. ¹⁵ And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money: For Naboth is not alive, but dead.

⁸ Will you accept his person? Will you contend for God?

⁷ when I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street! ⁸ The young men saw me, and hid themselves: And the aged arose, and stood up. ⁹ The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The nobles held their peace, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me: ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: My judgment was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the poor: And the cause which I did not know I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

³⁴ Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

⁸ The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

³ the captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artisan, and the eloquent orator.

¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.

³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul

²¹ You shall neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: For you were strangers in the land of Egypt. ²² You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry; ²⁴ and My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁹ Cursed be he that perverts the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, "Amen.

²¹ He evil entreats the barren that bears not: And does not good to the widow.

¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came on me: And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb);

²¹ if I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man: Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: But the LORD upholds the righteous.

⁶ They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

¹⁷ learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

² to turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!

⁷ In you they have set light by father and mother: In the midst of you they have dealt with the stranger by oppression: In you they have vexed the fatherless and the widow.

²² Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; 'Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong, and that which was broken; and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.

⁵ And I will come near to you to decree judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his rights, and do not fear Me", says the LORD of hosts.

³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, 'Avenge me from my adversary.' ⁴ And he would not for a while: But afterward he said within himself, 'Though I do not fear God, nor regard man; ⁵ yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.' "

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: And let not your dread make me afraid.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a snare. ⁹ The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. ¹⁰ The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net.

⁶ Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: This shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁷ when your fear comes as desolation, and your destruction comes as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you.

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

⁸ He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.

³⁴ Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?

⁷ Deep calls to deep at the noise of Your waterspouts: All Your waves and Your billows have gone over me.

¹ To the chief Musician upon Shoshannim, A Psalm of David. Save me, O God; for the waters have come in to my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

⁴ then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul: ⁵ Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul."

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.

²² And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

² He has led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, "I am cut off."

² A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: A great people and a strong; there has not ever been the like, neither shall there be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. ³ A fire devours before them; and behind them a flame burns: The land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yes, and nothing shall escape them.

³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed around me: All Your billows and Your waves passed over me.

¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? Deeper than hell; what can you know?

³ When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained; ⁴ what is man, that You are mindful of him? And the son of man, that You visit him?

³ But our God is in the heavens: He has done whatever He has pleased.

¹⁶ The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: But the earth He has given to the children of men.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God: For God is in heaven, and you on earth: Therefore let your words be few.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: Where is the house that you build to Me? And where is the place of My rest?

¹¹ He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten: He hides His face; He will never see it."

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth: Swords are in their lips: They say, "Who can hear?"

⁵ They encourage themselves in an evil matter: They commune in discourse of laying snares privately; they say, "Who shall see them?

¹¹ And they say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?"

⁷ Yet they say, "The LORD shall not see, nor shall the God of Jacob regard it." ⁸ Understand, you brutish among the people: And you fools, when will you be wise? ⁹ He that planted the ear, shall He not hear? He that formed the eye, shall He not see?

¹⁵ Woe to those who seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, "Who sees us?" and "Who knows us?"

¹² Then He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? For they say, 'the LORD does not see us; the LORD has forsaken the earth.' "

⁹ Then said He to me, "The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: For they say, 'The LORD has forsaken the earth, and the LORD does not see.'

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: That say in their heart, 'The LORD will not do good, neither will He do evil.'

⁹ He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

¹⁴ From the place of His habitation He looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

² Clouds and darkness are all around Him: Righteousness and judgment are the habitation of His throne.

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me, and known me. ² You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off.

¹¹ If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me." ¹² Yes, the darkness does not hide from You; but the night shines as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

²⁴ Can anyone hide himself in secret places such that I shall not see him?" said the LORD. "Do I not fill heaven and earth?" said the LORD.

² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; nor hid, that shall not be known. ³ Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

¹¹ The earth was also corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. ¹² And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. ¹³ And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so also shall it be in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

¹⁷ And the flood was upon the earth forty days; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. ¹⁸ And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. ¹⁹ And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. ²⁰ The waters prevailed upward fifteen cubits; and the mountains were covered.15 Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures) is approximately 27.4 feet, or 8.3m; per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ²¹ And all flesh that moved upon the earth died, both of fowl, and of domestic beast, and of wild beast, and of every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth, and every man: ²² All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that were on the dry land, died. ²³ And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and domestic beasts, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: And only Noah remained alive, and those that were with him in the ark. ²⁴ And the waters prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.

¹⁹ The waters wear the stones: You wash away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and you destroy the hope of man.

³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.

²³ But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.

²⁴ I said, "O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days: Your years are throughout all generations.

¹⁷ Do not be overly wicked, neither shall you be foolish: Why should you die before your time?

²⁶ And everyone that hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, shall be likened to a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand: ²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: And great was the fall of it."

³⁷ But as the days of Noah were, so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be. ³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ and did not know until the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of Man be.

¹⁹ By which also He went and preached to the spirits in prison; ²⁰ which in time past were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is eight souls, were saved by water.

⁵ and did not spare the old world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

¹⁰ Their bull engenders, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf.

¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we pray to him?

⁶ There are many that say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

¹¹ Get out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us."

¹⁴ You all have said, 'It is vain to serve God: And what profit is it that we have kept His ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?

²⁹ And behold, they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?

³⁴ And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: And when they saw Him, they implored Him that He would depart out of their borders.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not proper;

⁷ The LORD makes poor, and makes rich: He brings low, and lifts up.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and those that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God brings abundantly.

¹⁶ See, their good is not in their hand: The counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

¹ Blessed is the man that does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.ungodly; or, wicked

¹⁴ From men which are Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure: They are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind.

¹⁷ Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."

¹⁶ 'After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; and I will build again its ruins, and I will set it up:

²³ If the whip slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

¹¹ Let Mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of Your judgments.

⁶ The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance: He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

⁸ Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Your judgments, O LORD,

⁴² The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: And all iniquity shall stop her mouth.

¹⁰ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her."

¹ And after these things I heard a great voice of many people in heaven, saying, "Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, to the Lord our God: ² For His judgments are true and righteous: For He has judged the great whore, which corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of His servants at her hand." ³ And again they said, "Alleluia. And her smoke rose up forever and ever."

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, "The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and has burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell you.

⁷ Remember, I implore you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?

³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.

¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: According to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice in it. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not;

²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For you say, "Where is the house of the prince? And where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

¹ There were present in that season some that told Him of the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answering said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were sinners more than all the other Galileans, because they suffered such things? ³ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, do you think that they were sinners more than all other men that dwelt in Jerusalem? ⁵ I tell you, no: But unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish."

²⁹ but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. ³⁰ Even like this shall it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, making them an example to those that afterward would live ungodly; ⁷ and delivered just Lot, who was vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: For the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: If you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: But those that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

⁵ Or let him take hold of My strength, that he may make peace with Me; and he shall make peace with Me."

¹⁹ "I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him who is far off, and to him who is near", said the LORD; "and I will heal him." ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ "There is no peace", said my God, "for the wicked."

²⁵ Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the way with him; lest at any time your adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison.

³ And this is life eternal, that they might know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

³⁶ The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (He is Lord of all):

⁶ For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God implored you through us: We make request of you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.

¹⁴ For He is our peace, who has made both [Jew and Gentile] one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation between us; ¹⁵ having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; so as to make in Himself from two one new man, thus making peace; ¹⁶ and that He might reconcile both to God in one body by the cross, having thereby slain the enmity: ¹⁷ And came and preached peace to you who were afar off, and to those that were near.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

¹ Now therefore listen, O Israel, to the statutes and to the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that you may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers gives you. ² You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish ought from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

⁶ And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart: ⁷ And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the highway, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. ⁸ And you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the posts of your house, and on your gates.

¹² Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹¹ I have hid Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you; ² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; ⁵ then you shall understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: Out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: He is a buckler shield to those that walk uprightly. ⁸ He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of His saints. ⁹ Then you shall understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yes, every good path.

⁴ He also taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart retain my words: Keep my commandments, and live.

²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart.

¹⁶ Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart: For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.

³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: And an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.

⁵² Then He said to them, "Therefore every scribe which is instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a householder, who brings forth out of his treasure things new and old."

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

⁵¹ Then He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them: But His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

¹ Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you would abound more and more. ² For you know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

¹³ Up, sanctify the people, and say, "Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow: For thus says the LORD God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of you, O Israel: You cannot stand before your enemies, until you take away the accursed thing from among you. ¹⁴ In the morning therefore you shall be brought according to your tribes: And it shall be, that the tribe which the LORD takes shall come according to its families; and the family which the LORD shall take shall come by households; and the household which the LORD shall take shall come man by man. ¹⁵ And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he has: Because he has transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he has worked folly in Israel. ¹⁶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

⁵ if you would seek to God betimes, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ if you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

¹³ If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward him; ¹⁴ if iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation.

²² And the LORD shall smite Egypt: He shall smite and heal it: And they shall even return to the LORD, and He shall be entreated of them, and shall heal them.

⁶ Turn to Him against whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously, and speaks uprightly; he who despises the gain of oppressions, who shakes his hands from holding bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil;

⁶ All of you seek the LORD while He may be found, call on Him while He is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: And let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

⁴ Again I will build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel: You shall be adorned with your tabrets again, and shall go forth in the dances of those who make merry.

¹ O Israel, return to the LORD your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity. ² Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: Say to Him, "Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: So will we render the calves of our lips.

³ Therefore say you to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "Turn to Me", says the LORD of hosts, "and I will turn to you", says the LORD of hosts.

³ Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: For everyone that steals shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and everyone that swears shall be cut off as on that side according to it." ⁴ "I will bring it forth", says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones."

²⁰ But brought word first to those of Damascus, and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works worthy for repentance.

⁷ Rooted and built up in Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His." And, "Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

²⁰ But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,

²⁹ and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: All these were the sons of Joktan.

²⁸ And they came to Ophir, and fetched from there gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

²¹ And all king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon were of pure gold; none were of silver: It was nothing accounted of in the days of Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: But they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

⁵ Moreover the brazen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: And Solomon and the congregation sought to it.

¹⁰ And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones.

²⁷ And the king made silver in Jerusalem as stones, and cedar trees made he as the sycomore trees that are in the low plains in abundance.

²⁵ if I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

⁹ Kings' daughters were among Your honorable women: Upon Your right hand stood the queen in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make a man more precious than fine gold; a man even more than the golden wedge of Ophir.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Fear not, Abram: I am your shield, and your exceedingly great reward."

⁵ The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup: You maintain my lot. ⁶ The lines are fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a goodly heritage.

² The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield: The LORD will give grace and glory: He will not withhold any good thing from those that walk uprightly.

⁶ And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

¹⁰ Fear not; for I am with you: Be not dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.'

³¹ What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, has not God chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which He has promised to those that love Him?

¹⁵ For then you shall lift up your face without spot; yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear:

¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

⁹ For he has said, "It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

¹ A Psalm of David. To You, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

⁴ Delight yourself also in the LORD: And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

⁴ Rejoice the soul of Your servant: For to You, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

⁸ Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for I do trust in You: Cause me to know the way in which I should walk; for I lift up my soul to You.

³ As the apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹⁴ Then you shall delight yourself in the LORD; and I will cause you to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it."

²² For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man:

²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God.

²⁶ He shall pray to God, and he will be favorable to him: And he shall see his face with joy: For he will render to man his righteousness.

²⁸ So that they cause the cry of the poor to come to him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁴ Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay your vows to the most High: ¹⁵ And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

¹² Your vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises to You.

¹³ I will go into Your house with burnt offerings: I will pay You my vows, ¹⁴ which my lips have uttered, and my mouth has spoken, when I was in trouble.

¹⁷ I cried out to Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue. ¹⁸ If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: ¹⁹ But truly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, which has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me.

¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

¹ I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications.

¹⁴ I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people.

⁴ When you vow a vow to God, do not defer to pay it; for he has no pleasure in fools: Pay that which you have vowed.

⁹ Then you shall call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;

⁹ But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD."

¹⁴ And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us: ¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.

³ when his candle shined on my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

⁴ Grant according to your own heart, and fulfill all your counsel.

¹⁷ And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: And establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, the work of our hands, You establish it.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ To the upright there arises light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

²¹ And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right hand side, and when you turn to the left.

³⁷ Who is he who speaks, and it comes to pass, when the Lord does not command it?

² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

²² And all things, whatever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive."

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world: He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

¹⁵ Given that you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live, and do this, or that."

¹⁹ He shall deliver you in six troubles: Yes, in seven there shall no evil touch you. ²⁰ In famine he shall redeem you from death: And in war from the power of the sword. ²¹ You shall be hid from the whip of the tongue: Neither shall you be afraid of destruction when it comes. ²² At destruction and famine you shall laugh: Neither shall you be afraid of the wild beasts of the earth. ²³ For you shall be in league with the stones of the field: And the wild beasts of the field shall be at peace with you. ²⁴ And you shall know that your tabernacle shall be in peace; and you shall visit your habitation, and shall not sin. ²⁵ You shall know also that your seed shall be great, and your offspring as the grass of the earth. ²⁶ You shall come to your grave in a full age, like as a shock of grain comes in in his season. ²⁷ See this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it for your good.

² I will be glad and rejoice in You: I will sing praise to Your name, O most High. ³ When my enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at Your presence.

¹⁴ "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him: I will set him on high, because he has known My name. ¹⁵ He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. ¹⁶ With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

⁹ For lo, Your enemies, O LORD, for lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered. ¹⁰ But You shall exalt my horn like the horn of an unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil. ¹¹ My eyes also shall see my desire on my enemies, and my ears shall hear my desire of the wicked that rise up against me.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly: But the proud He knows afar off.

²³ A man's pride shall bring him low: But honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

² For all those things My hand has made, and all those things have been in existence", said the LORD: "but to this man I will look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.

²⁶ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: This shall not be the same: Exalt him who is low, and abase him who is high. ²⁷ I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: And it shall be no more, until He come whose right it is; and I will give it Him." '

¹² And whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁵² He has put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted those of low degree.

¹¹ For whoever exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

⁹ Moreover He spoke this parable to certain ones who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: ¹⁰ "Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed in this manner with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.' ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner.' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

⁶ But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

⁵ Likewise you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility: For "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

²⁶ And the LORD said, "If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes." ²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, "Behold now, I have taken upon myself to speak to the LORD, who am but dust and ashes: ²⁸ Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: Will You destroy all the city for lack of five?" And He said, "If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it." ²⁹ And he spoke to Him yet again, and said, "Peradventure there shall be forty found there." And He said, "I will not do it for forty's sake." ³⁰ And he said to Him, "Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall be thirty found there." And He said, "I will not do it, if I find thirty there." ³¹ And he said, "Behold now, I have taken upon myself to speak to the LORD: Peradventure twenty shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for twenty's sake." ³² And he said, "Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will yet speak but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there." And He said, "I will not destroy it for ten's sake."

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: For him will I accept: Lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

²⁰ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.

⁴ He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: Your hands are full of blood.

¹² And those who shall be of you shall build the old waste places: You shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

¹ "Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its broad places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who executes judgment, who seeks the truth; and I will pardon it.

⁹ "And now, I implore you, beseech God that He will be gracious to us: This has been by your own hand: Will He regard your persons?", says the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus apart, and said, "Why could we not cast him out?" ²⁰ And Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief: For truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Remove from here to yonder place'; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

¹⁵ And the evil spirit answered and said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?" ¹⁶ Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

²⁴ saying, 'Fear not, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar: And look, God has given you all those who sail with you.'

⁸ It is my will therefore that men everywhere pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
