¹ See, my eye has seen all this, my ear has heard and understood it. ² What you know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior to you. ³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value. ⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! And it should be your wisdom. ⁶ Hear now my reasoning, and listen to the pleadings of my lips. ⁷ Will you speak wickedly for God? And talk deceitfully for him? ⁸ Will you accept his person? Will you contend for God? ⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him? ¹⁰ He will surely reprove you, if you do secretly accept persons. ¹¹ Shall not his excellency make you afraid? And his dread fall upon you? ¹² Your remembrances are like to ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay. ¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will. ¹⁴ Why do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand? ¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him: But I will maintain my own ways before him. ¹⁶ He also shall be my salvation: For a hypocrite shall not come before him. ¹⁷ Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears. ¹⁸ Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified. ¹⁹ Who is he that will plead with me? For now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost. ²⁰ Only do not two things to me: Then will I not hide myself from you. ²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: And let not your dread make me afraid. ²² Then call you, and I will answer: Or let me speak, and answer you me. ²³ How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin. ²⁴ Why do You hide Your face, and hold me for your enemy? ²⁵ Will you break a leaf driven to and fro? And will you pursue the dry stubble? ²⁶ For you write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the iniquities of my youth. ²⁷ You put my feet also in the stocks, and look narrowly to all my paths; you set a print on the heels of my feet. ²⁸ And he, as a rotten thing, consumes, as a garment that is moth eaten.

¹² Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a little of it.

⁹ Which does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number: ¹⁰ Who gives rain upon the earth, and sends waters upon the fields: ¹¹ To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety. ¹² He disappoints the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise. ¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night. ¹⁵ But he saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and iniquity stops her mouth.

²⁷ See this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it for your good.

⁸ For inquire, I implore you, of the former age, and prepare yourself to the search of their fathers: ⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow): ¹⁰ Shall not they teach you, and tell you, and utter words out of their heart?

⁹ Who knows not in all these that the hand of the LORD has worked this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. ¹¹ Does not the ear try words? And the mouth taste his meat? ¹² With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. ¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding. ¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening. ¹⁵ Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up: Also he sends them out, and they overturn the earth. ¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his. ¹⁷ He leads counsellors away spoiled, and makes the judges fools. ¹⁸ He looses the bond of kings, and girds their loins with a girdle. ¹⁹ He leads princes away spoiled, and overthrows the mighty. ²⁰ He removes away the speech of the trusty, and takes away the understanding of the aged. ²¹ He pours contempt on princes, and weakens the strength of the mighty. ²² He discovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death. ²³ He increases the nations, and destroys them: He enlarges the nations, and straitens them again. ²⁴ He takes away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. ²⁵ They grope in the dark without light, and he makes them to stagger like a drunken man.

¹⁷ I will show you, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare; ¹⁸ which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:

³ Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. ⁴ Hear, I beseech you, and I will speak: I will demand of you, and declare you to me. ⁵ I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear: But now my eye sees you. ⁶ For which reason I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.

³ Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He has done.

³ that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you all may also have fellowship with us: And truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yes, who knows not such things as these?

⁸ Have you heard the secret of God? And do you restrain wisdom to yourself? ⁹ What know you, that we know not? What understand you, which is not in us?

³⁵ Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

¹⁶ Therefore does Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge.

² Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goes out of his mouth.

⁴ behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: Yes, twice; but I will proceed no further.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

¹ Now concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. ² And if any man thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know.

⁴ For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if you receive another spirit, which you have not received, or another gospel, which you have not accepted, you might well bear with him. ⁵ For I suppose I was not the least bit behind the very great chief apostles.

¹⁶ I say again, let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet receive me as a fool, that I may boast myself a little. ¹⁷ That which I speak, I do not speak it according to the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting. ¹⁸ Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.

¹¹ I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me: For I ought to have been commended by you: For in nothing am I behind the very great chief apostles, though I am nothing.

³ If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

¹⁴ How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him? ¹⁵ Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me: ³⁵ Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

⁵ But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you;

¹⁵ Though he slay me, yet I will trust in him: But I will maintain my own ways before him.

²² Then call you, and I will answer: Or let me speak, and answer you me.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together", said the LORD: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. ¹⁹ If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land: ²⁰ But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword: For the mouth of the LORD has spoken it.

²¹ "Produce your cause", said the LORD; "bring forth your strong reasons", said the King of Jacob.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind.

² Hear, O mountains, the LORD's controversy, and you strong foundations of the earth: For the LORD has a controversy with His people, and He will plead with Israel.

¹⁶ You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

⁷ Remember, I implore you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off? ⁸ Even as I have seen, those that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

¹ Call now, if there be any that will answer you; and to which of the saints will you turn? ² For wrath kills the foolish man, and envy slays the silly one. ³ I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. ⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eats up, and takes it even out of the thorns, and the robber swallows up their substance.

²¹ For now you are nothing; you see my casting down, and are afraid.

³ Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ If your children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression;

² I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are you all.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. ⁷ The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks on a snare. ⁹ The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him. ¹⁰ The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way. ¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. ¹² His strength shall be extremely hungry, and destruction shall be ready at his side. ¹³ It shall devour the strength of his skin: Even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. ¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. ¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: Brimstone shall be scattered on his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. ²⁰ Those that come after him shall be astonished at his day, as those that went before were affrighted. ²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knows not God.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which you wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For you say, "Where is the house of the prince? And where are the dwelling places of the wicked? ²⁹ Have you not asked those that go by the way? And do you not know their tokens, ³⁰ that the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? They shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. ³¹ Who shall declare his way to his face? And who shall repay him what he has done? ³² Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. ³³ The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him. ³⁴ How then comfort you me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?

⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelled in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you; ¹¹ or darkness, that you cannot see; and abundance of waters cover you. ¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are! ¹³ And you say, "How does God know? Can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven. ¹⁵ Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood: ¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them? ¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me. ¹⁹ The righteous see it, and are glad: And the innocent laugh them to scorn. ²⁰ Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes. ²¹ Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace: By this good shall come to you. ²² Receive, I implore you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles. ²⁴ Then you shall lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. ²⁵ Yes, the Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver. ²⁶ For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you: And the light shall shine on your ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then you shall say, "There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. ³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent: And it is delivered by the pureness of your hands.

⁶⁹ The proud have forged a lie against me: But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.

¹⁴ They have also healed the hurt of the daughter of my people only slightly, saying, 'Peace, peace'; when there is no peace.

²² Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? Why then is the health of the daughter of My people not recovered?

³² Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams", said the LORD, "and do tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I did not send them, nor commanded them: Therefore they shall not profit this people at all", said the LORD.

¹³ There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: You have no healing medicines.

¹¹ Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: In vain you shall use many medicines; for you shall not be cured.

⁴ You have not strengthened the diseased, neither have you healed those who were sick, neither have you bound up those who were broken, neither have you brought back those who were driven away, neither have you sought those who were lost; but with force and with cruelty you have ruled them.

¹³ When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then Ephraim went to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: Yet he could not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.

¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those that are whole have no need of the physician, but those that are sick: I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

²⁶ and had suffered many things from many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and nothing was better, but rather grew worse,

³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? And when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed?

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what emboldens you that you answer?

² how long will it be ere you make an end of words? Mark, and afterwards we will speak.

² how long will you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

² hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations. ³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

¹ So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

²⁸ Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise: And he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

³ For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by a multitude of words.

¹³ Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

⁷ And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said to them, "Listen to me, you men of Shechem, that God may listen to you.

¹ Why, Job, I implore you, hear my speeches, and listen to all my words. ² Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue has spoken in my mouth. ³ My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: And my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.

² hear my words, O you wise men; and give ear to me, you that have knowledge.

⁶ Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. ⁷ For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

⁷ Remember, I implore you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?

² should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? And when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? ⁴ For you have said, "My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes.

⁵ He that speaks flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

⁴ my lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

²¹ Let me not, I implore you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles to man. ²² For I do not know to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

⁴ For truly my words shall not be false: He that is perfect in knowledge is with you.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: Yes, the time is coming, that whoever kills you will think that he does service to God.

⁵ But if our unrighteousness commends the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? (I speak as a man.) ⁶ God forbid: For how then shall God judge the world? ⁷ For if the truth of God has abounded more through my lie to His glory; why am I still also judged as a sinner? ⁸ And not rather just say, (as we are slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) "Let us do evil, that good may come"? (whose damnation is just.)

² but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the Word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

² You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shall you speak in a court case to decline morally after many to wrest judgment:speak: In Hebrew, answer ³ Neither shall you favor a poor man in his court case.

¹⁵ You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: You shall not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: But in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor.

²¹ Let me not, I implore you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles to man.

¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

²³ These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have reverence of persons in judgment.

⁹ "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and lowly before all the people, according to as you all have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law."

¹⁶ With him is strength and wisdom: The deceived and the deceiver are his.

² Are there not mockers with me? And does not my eye continue in their provocation?

³⁶ My desire is that Job may be tried to the end because of his answers for wicked men.

²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts:

²² Now therefore you shall not be mockers, lest your bands be made strong: For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined on the whole earth.

¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

⁷ Do not be deceived; God is not mocked: For whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap. ⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. ⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: For him will I accept: Lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself: But I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes. ²² Now consider this, you that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

⁹ But if you have reverence to people, you commit sin, and are convinced by the law as being transgressors.

¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of Your arm they shall be as still as a stone; until Your people pass over, O LORD, until the people which You have purchased pass over.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: And let not your dread make me afraid.

²³ For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

¹²⁰ My flesh trembles for fear of You; and I am afraid of Your judgments.

¹³ Sanctify the LORD of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread.

²² Do you not fear me?' said the LORD: 'will you not tremble at My presence, who has placed the sand as the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it?: And though the waves of it toss themselves, yet they cannot prevail; though they roar, yet they cannot pass over it?

¹⁰ But the LORD is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting King: At His wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide His indignation.

²⁸ And do not fear those which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: But rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

³ And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are Your ways, You King of saints. ⁴ Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For only You are holy: For all nations shall come and worship before You; for Your judgments are made manifest."

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

²⁷ And Abraham answered and said, "Behold now, I have taken upon myself to speak to the LORD, who am but dust and ashes:

¹⁴ And the LORD said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: For I will utterly wipe out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven."

¹⁹ How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

¹⁶ The face of the LORD is against those that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

¹² But You, O LORD, shall endure forever; and Your remembrance to all generations.

¹⁵ Let them be continually be before the LORD, that He may cut off the memory of them from the earth

⁷ The memory of the just is blessed: But the name of the wicked shall rot.

¹⁴ They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: Therefore You have visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

¹ For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

⁹ Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off! ¹⁰ Then should I yet have comfort; yes, I would harden myself in sorrow: Let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁵ So that my soul chooses strangling, and death rather than my life. ¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: Let me alone; for my days are vanity.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

⁵ O that you would altogether hold your peace! And it should be your wisdom.

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

³ And when I saw that you delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed in front of the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: Why then are you come up to me this day, to fight against me?

⁵ For he put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel: You saw it, and rejoiced: Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?"

²¹ And the woman came to Saul, and saw that he was exceedingly troubled, and said to him, "Behold, your handmaid has obeyed your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have hearkened to your words which you spoke to me.

⁴ He tears himself in his anger: Shall the earth be forsaken for you? And shall the rock be removed out of his place?

¹⁰⁹ My soul is continually in my hand: Yet I do not forget Your law.

⁵ The fool folds his hands together, and eats his own flesh.

²⁰ And he shall snatch on the right hand side, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand side, and they shall not be satisfied: Every man shall eat the flesh of his own arm:

²⁶ And I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: And all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob."

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

¹⁸ Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.

¹⁷ not for any injustice in my hands: Also my prayer is pure.

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!

²⁵ For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth: ²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: ²⁷ Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. ²⁸ But you should say, "Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me?

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take: When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

⁵ God forbid that I should justify you: Till I die I will not remove my integrity from me.

³¹ If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! We cannot be satisfied. ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street: But I opened my doors to the travelers. ³³ If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom: ³⁴ Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? ³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book. ³⁶ Surely I would take it on my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. ³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

² shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? He that reproves God, let him answer it.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

⁴ Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death.

³⁸ For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

² The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation: He is my God, and I will prepare Him a habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt Him.

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish:

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul? ⁹ Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him? ¹⁰ Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?

¹³ But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: They cry not when he binds them.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

⁶ He only is my rock and my salvation: He is my defense; I shall not be moved. ⁷ In God is my salvation and my glory: The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

¹⁴ The LORD is my strength and song, and has become my salvation.

²¹ I will praise You: For You have heard me, and are my salvation.

¹ And in that day you shall say, "O LORD, I will praise You: Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comforted me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: For the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also has become my salvation.

¹⁴ The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings?

²³ Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: Truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you to be a light to the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.' "

⁶ Hear now my reasoning, and listen to the pleadings of my lips.

² hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.

¹ Why, Job, I implore you, hear my speeches, and listen to all my words.

² I know it is so of a truth: But how should man be just with God? ³ If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

²⁰ If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: If I say, "I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

⁷ gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you to me. ⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

²⁶ Put Me in remembrance: Let us plead together: Declare yourself, that you may be justified.

³³ Who shall blame God's elect? It is God that justifies. ³⁴ Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, now rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁸ Your hands have made me and fashioned me together all around; yet you do destroy me.

⁵ If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

⁵ If you can answer me, set your words in order before me, stand up. ⁶ Behold, I am according to your wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay. ⁷ Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy on you.

³² If you have anything to say, "answer me: Speak, for I desire to justify you.

⁷ For the Lord GOD will help Me; therefore I shall not be confounded: Therefore I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. ⁸ He is near who justifies Me; who will contend with Me? Let us stand together: Who is My adversary? Let him come near to Me.

⁹ Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name." But His word was in my heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

³³ Who shall blame God's elect? It is God that justifies.

⁸ And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. ⁹ And the LORD God called to Adam, and said to him, "Where are you?" ¹⁰ And he said, "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."

¹² Yes, the darkness does not hide from You; but the night shines as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

¹⁵ And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

²⁰ Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little,

¹¹ Shall not his excellency make you afraid? And his dread fall upon you?

¹⁵ Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden? ¹⁶ Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood: ¹⁷ Which said to God, "Depart from us: And what can the Almighty do for them?

⁷ Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy on you.

¹⁰ Remove Your stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of Your hand.

¹⁶ If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had listened to my voice.

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

¹⁵ You shall call, and I will answer you: You will have a desire to the work of your hands.

³ Gird up now your loins like a man; for I will demand of you, and answer you me.

⁵ Is not your wickedness great? And your iniquities infinite?

⁸ And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction; ⁹ then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or outstretched our hands to a strange god; ²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

²⁰ And he said, "I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: For they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.

¹⁶ Then said Samuel, "Why then do you ask of me, seeing the LORD has departed from you, and has become your enemy?

² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me.

⁹ He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: He gnashes on me with his teeth; my enemy sharpens his eyes upon me.

¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me to him as one of his enemies.

² oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; ³ when his candle shined on my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

²¹ You are become cruel to me: With your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.

¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy,

¹ Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?

¹ How long will You forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

²⁴ Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

⁶ I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with my own heart: And my spirit made diligent search. ⁷ Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more? ⁸ Is His mercy wholly gone forever? Does His promise fail forevermore? ⁹ Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He shut up His tender mercies in anger? Selah.

¹⁴ LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?

¹⁷ And I will wait upon the LORD, who hides His face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for Him.

⁵ The LORD was as an enemy: He has swallowed up Israel, He has swallowed up all her palaces: He has destroyed His strongholds, and has increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation.

¹⁵ Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

³⁶ And on them that are left alive of you I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall when none pursues.

¹⁴ After whom has the king of Israel come out? After whom do you pursue? After a dead dog, after a flea.

³ And does you open your eyes upon such an one, and bring me into judgment with you?

¹⁸ They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carries away.

¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: But God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

²⁰ A bruised reed He shall not break, and smoking flax He shall not quench, until He sends forth judgment to victory.

²⁰ And she said to them, "Do not call me Naomi, call me Mara: For the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me.

²⁰ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul;

¹¹ His bones are full of the sin of his youth, which shall lie down with him in the dust.

⁷ Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: According to your mercy remember me for Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

³ for my soul is full of troubles: And my life draws near to the grave. ⁴ I am counted with those that go down into the pit: I am as a man that has no strength: ⁵ Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom You remember no more: And they are cut off from Your hand. ⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. ⁷ Your wrath lies hard upon me, and You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah. ⁸ You have put my acquaintance far away from me; You have made me an abomination to them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. ⁹ My eyes mourn because of affliction: LORD, I have called upon You daily, I have outstretched my hands to You. ¹⁰ Will You show wonders to the dead? Shall the dead arise and praise You? Selah. ¹¹ Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in destruction? ¹² Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? ¹³ But to You I have cried, O LORD; and in the morning my prayer shall come before You. ¹⁴ LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? ¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth on up: I am distracted while I suffer Your terrors. ¹⁶ Your fierce wrath goes over me; Your terrors have cut me off. ¹⁷ They came all around me like water daily; together they compassed around me. ¹⁸ You have put lover and friend far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.

¹¹ and at the end you mourn, when your flesh and your body are consumed, ¹² and say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.'

⁵ Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty eight years.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "Behold, you are made whole: Sin no more, lest a worse thing come to you."

¹⁰ Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time. ¹¹ And behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ¹² And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: Yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.

⁷ So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.

⁶ that you enquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin?

¹⁶ For now you number my steps: Do you not watch over my sin?

¹¹ he puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths.

²² He immediately goes after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

²⁴ Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and fastened their feet in the stocks.

¹² Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb.

¹⁷ My bones are pierced in me in the night season: And my sinews take no rest. ¹⁸ By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: It binds me about as the collar of my coat. ¹⁹ He has cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

²⁹ I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls. ³⁰ My skin is black on me, and my bones are burned with heat.

¹¹ When You correct man for iniquity with rebukes, You make his beauty to consume away like a moth: Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

¹² Therefore I will be to Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.
