¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said, ² should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be justified? ³ Should your lies make men hold their peace? And when you mock, shall no man make you ashamed? ⁴ For you have said, "My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in your eyes. ⁵ But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against you; ⁶ and that he would show you the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacts of you less than your iniquity deserves. ⁷ Can you by searching find out God? Can you find out the Almighty to perfection? ⁸ It is as high as heaven; what can you do? Deeper than hell; what can you know? ⁹ The measure of it is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea. ¹⁰ If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him? ¹¹ For he knows vain men: He sees wickedness also; will he not then consider it? ¹² For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt. ¹³ If you prepare your heart, and stretch out your hands toward him; ¹⁴ if iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tabernacles. ¹⁵ For then you shall lift up your face without spot; yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: ¹⁶ Because you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away: ¹⁷ And your age shall be clearer than the noonday: You shall shine forth, you shall be as the morning. ¹⁸ And you shall be secure, because there is hope; yes, you shall dig about you, and you shall take your rest in safety. ¹⁹ Also you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid; yes, many shall make suit to you. ²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that was come on him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite: For they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.

¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

² how long will you speak these things? And how long shall the words of your mouth be like a strong wind?

³ Shall vain words have an end? Or what emboldens you that you answer?

² how long will it be ere you make an end of words? Mark, and afterwards we will speak.

¹¹ Do not let an evil speaker be established in the earth: Evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him."

¹⁹ In the multitude of words sin is not lacking: But he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, "What will this babbler say?" Others said, "He seems to be a herald of strange gods": Because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

⁴ I am as one mocked of his neighbor, who calls on God, and he answers him: The just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁴ But you are forgers of lies, you are all physicians of no value.

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one man mocks another, do you so mock him?

² should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? ³ Should he reason with unprofitable talk? Or with speeches with which he can do no good?

² Are there not mockers with me? And does not my eye continue in their provocation?

³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

²⁵ And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water?

¹⁶ As with hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.

¹⁶ Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek Your name, O LORD.

¹⁷ I did not sit in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of Your hand: For You have filled me with indignation.

¹⁴ And if any man does not obey our word by this letter, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned; so that he who is of the contrary point of view may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

¹⁸ how they told you there would be mockers in the last time, who would walk after their own ungodly lusts.

¹⁰ Then should I yet have comfort; yes, I would harden myself in sorrow: Let him not spare; for I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.

²⁹ Return, I implore you, let it not be iniquity; yes, return again, my righteousness is in it. ³⁰ Is there iniquity in my tongue? Cannot my taste discern perverse things?

²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do to you, O you preserver of men? Why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself?

² I know it is so of a truth: But how should man be just with God? ³ If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

⁴ Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one.

⁵ For Job has said, "I am righteous: And God has taken away my judgment. ⁶ Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.

² think you this to be right, that you said, "My righteousness is more than God's?

¹⁵ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: And always be ready to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason for the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat! ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

⁶ Behold, I am according to your wish in God's stead: I also am formed out of the clay. ⁷ Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy on you. ⁸ Surely you have spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying, ⁹ I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me. ¹⁰ Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy, ¹¹ he puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths. ¹² Behold, in this you are not just: I will answer you, that God is greater than man. ¹³ Why do you strive against him? For he gives not account of any of his matters. ¹⁴ For God speaks once, yes twice, yet man perceives it not. ¹⁵ In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumberings on the bed; ¹⁶ then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction, ¹⁷ that he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. ¹⁸ He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ² who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

¹ Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, ² shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? He that reproves God, let him answer it. ³ Then Job answered the LORD, and said, ⁴ behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ⁵ Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: Yes, twice; but I will proceed no further.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

²⁹ The secret things belong to the LORD our God: But those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.

¹³ And after all that is come on us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that you our God have punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and have given us such deliverance as this;

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who has hardened himself against him, and has prospered?

⁵ For your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

⁸ Have you heard the secret of God? And do you restrain wisdom to yourself?

¹¹ Are the consolations of God small with you? Is there any secret thing with you?

²⁸ And to man he said, "Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

¹⁴ The secret of the LORD is with those that fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.

¹⁰ He has not dealt with us according to our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

⁴³ Many times He delivered them; but they provoked Him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Nevertheless, He regarded their affliction, when He heard their cry: ⁴⁵ And He remembered His covenant for them, and repented according to the multitude of His mercies. ⁴⁶ He made them also to be pitied by all those who carried them captives.

²² It is by the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions never fail.

²⁸ but there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these;

⁴⁷ The king answered to Daniel, and said, "It is true that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret."

³⁵ That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world."

²⁵ Now to Him that is powerful to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, ²⁶ but is now made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, is made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

⁹ But as it is written, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither has entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for those that love Him." ¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit: For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. ¹¹ For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? Even so no man knows the things of God, but the Spirit of God.

⁵ which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

⁹ Which does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:

¹⁴ See, these are parts of his ways: But how little a portion is heard of him? But the thunder of his power who can understand?

²³ Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: He is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: He will not afflict.

¹⁹ Your way is in the sea, and Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps are not known.

³ Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.

¹¹ He has made every thing beautiful in His time: Also He has set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God makes from the beginning to the end.

²⁸ Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint, nor is weary? There is no searching of His understanding.

²⁷ All things are delivered to Me from My Father: And no man knows the Son, except the Father; neither does any man know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!

¹⁰ But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit: For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.

¹⁶ "For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all saints, this grace is given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

¹⁸ But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

¹² Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!

⁶ Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.

⁵ Look to heaven, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than you.

¹¹ For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it. ⁷ Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or to what place shall I flee from Your presence? ⁸ If I ascend up into heaven, You are there: If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.

¹³ Let them praise the name of the LORD: For His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heaven.

² It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: But the honor of kings is to search out a matter. ³ The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

⁹ "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.

² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down:

¹⁸ may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; ¹⁹ and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.

²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; ²⁵ to make the weight for the winds; and he weighs the waters by measure.

⁵ By frightful things in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation; Who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of those that are afar off upon the sea: ⁶ Which by His strength sets firm the mountains; being girded with power: ⁷ Which stills the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people. ⁸ Those that dwell in the uttermost parts are also afraid at your tokens: You make the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice.

⁹ If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; ¹⁰ even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?

¹⁸ For he makes sore, and binds up: He wounds, and his hands make whole.

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What do you? ¹³ If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

¹⁴ Behold, he breaks down, and it cannot be built again: He shuts up a man, and there can be no opening.

²⁹ When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? And when he hides his face, who then can behold him? Whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

⁸ and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: You have set my feet in a large room.

²⁷ The first shall say to Zion, 'Behold, behold them': And I will give to Jerusalem one that brings good tidings.

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: And He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: And none can stay His hand, or say to Him, "What are You doing?"

⁷ "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; 'These things says He that is holy, He that is true, "He that has the key of David, He that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens";

¹³ And you say, "How does God know? Can he judge through the dark cloud? ¹⁴ Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven.

²¹ For his eyes are on the ways of man, and he sees all his goings. ²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. ²³ For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten: He hides His face; He will never see it."

¹⁴ You have seen it; for You behold mischief and spite, to recompense it with Your hand: The poor commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless.

²² This You have seen, O LORD: Do not keep silent: O Lord, do not be far from me.

¹¹ The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: Who can know it? ¹⁰ I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

² And they do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: Now their own doings have beset them on every side; they are before My face.

¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity: Why do You look upon those that deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he?

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and did not need from man that any should testify: For He knew what was in man.

¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: But all things are naked and uncovered to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to give account.

²³ And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am He which searches the inner reins and hearts: And I will give to every one of you according to your works.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

⁵ Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass? Or lows the ox over his fodder?

² no doubt but you are the people, and wisdom shall die with you. ³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yes, who knows not such things as these?

¹⁴ What is man, that he should be clean? And he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

⁵ Who has sent out the wild donkey free? Or who has loosed the bands of the wild ass? ⁶ Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings. ⁷ He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the crying of the driver. ⁸ The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.

⁵ Behold, I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin my mother conceived me.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: To be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity. ¹⁰ Do not trust in oppression, and do not become ostentatious in robbery: If riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

²² So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before You.

⁶ A brutish man does not know; neither does a fool understand this.

² surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. ³ I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. ⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, if you can tell?

¹⁸ I said in my heart, "Concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might test them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts."

²⁴ A wild donkey used to the wilderness, that snuffs up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? All those that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

¹⁶ Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not mind high things, but descend from privilege of rank to men of low estate. Do not be wise in your own conceits.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He catches the wise in their own craftiness." ²⁰ And again, "The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

³ Among whom we all also had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

²⁰ But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

¹³ Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, do not boast, and do not lie against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. ¹⁶ For where envying and strife are, there is confusion and every evil work. ¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.

³ And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If you return to the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts to the LORD, and serve Him only: And He will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines."

¹⁴ And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.

³ Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the groves out of the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.

⁸ I would seek to God, and to God would I commit my cause:

⁵ if you would seek to God betimes, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ if you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

²¹ Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace: By this good shall come to you. ²² Receive, I implore you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

³¹ Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands to God.

⁸ And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that did not set their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

⁹ My eyes mourn because of affliction: LORD, I have called upon You daily, I have outstretched my hands to You.

⁶ I stretch forth my hands to You; my soul thirsts after You, as a thirsty land. Selah.

⁴⁷ And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and did not prepare himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

⁷ Remember, I implore you, who ever perished, being innocent? Or where were the righteous cut off?

⁵ Is not your wickedness great? And your iniquities infinite?

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles.

³² That which I see not teach you me: If I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

² I will behave wisely myself in a perfect way. O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

¹⁵ And when you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear: Your hands are full of blood.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, everyone according to his ways", said the Lord GOD. "Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away all your transgressions from you, by which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: For why will you die, O house of Israel?

³ Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: For everyone that steals shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and everyone that swears shall be cut off as on that side according to it." ⁴ "I will bring it forth", says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones."

⁸ Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

⁵ But to Cain and to his offering He did not have respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you wroth? And why has your countenance fallen?

¹⁵ If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet I will not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see you my affliction;

²⁶ For then you shall have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face to God.

¹ A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

¹ To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

⁶ Surely he shall not be moved forever: The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. ⁷ He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: His heart is stable, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

⁶ Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have respect to all Your commandments. ⁷ I will praise You with uprightness of heart, when I have learned Your righteous judgments.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: And his children shall have a place of refuge.

¹ The wicked flee when no man pursues: But the righteous are bold as a lion.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

⁸ It is my will therefore that men everywhere pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in Him; that when He appears, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.

¹⁹ And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. ²⁰ For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. ²¹ Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God. ²² And whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

¹¹ And I will establish My covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any longer by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth."

⁵¹ And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: "For God," he said, "has made me forget all my toil, and all my father's house."Manasseh; that is, Forgetting

¹⁵ My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;

¹¹ or darkness, that you cannot see; and abundance of waters cover you.

⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

²⁰ For he shall not remember the days of his life much; because God answers him in the joy of his heart.

¹ And in that day you shall say, "O LORD, I will praise You: Though You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comforted me. ² Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: For the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; He also has become my salvation.

⁴ Fear not; for you shall not be ashamed: Neither will you be confounded; for you shall not be put to shame: For you shall forget the shame of your youth, and shall not remember the reproach of your widowhood any more.

⁹ "For this is like the waters of Noah to Me: For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so I have sworn that I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you.

¹⁶ That he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from My eyes.

²¹ When a woman is in labor she has sorrow, because her hour has come: But as soon as she has delivered the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a baby is born into the world.

¹⁴ And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are those which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple: And He that sits on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes."

¹⁰ Why David blessed the LORD before all the congregation: And David said, "Blessed be you, LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.

¹¹ Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house: And they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought on him: Every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. ¹² So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: For he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-donkeys. ¹³ He had also seven sons and three daughters. ¹⁴ And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. ¹⁵ And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: And their father gave them inheritance among their brothers. ¹⁶ After this lived Job a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. ¹⁷ So Job died, being old and full of days.

⁶ And He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and Your judgment as the noonday.

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing;flourishing: In Hebrew, green

⁴ To the upright there arises light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.

⁸ Then your light shall break forth like the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: And your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear-guard. ⁹ Then you shall call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, 'Here I am.' If you take away the yoke from the midst of you, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then your light shall rise in obscurity, and your darkness be like the noon day:

³ Then we shall know, if we follow on pursuing to know the LORD: His going forth is prepared like the morning; and He shall come to us as the rain, as the latter and former rain to the earth.

⁸ Rejoice not against me, O my enemy: When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light to me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my cause, and executes judgment for me: He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness.

⁶ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the light shall not be clear, nor dark: ⁷ But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: But it shall come to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

² But to you that fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you all shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

²⁶ And it was revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ And he came by the Spirit into the temple: And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him after the custom of the law, ²⁸ then he took Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, ²⁹ "Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word: ³⁰ For my eyes have seen Your salvation, ³¹ which You have prepared before the face of all people; ³² a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel."

⁵ And your threshing shall reach to the vintage, and the vintage shall reach to the sowing time: And you shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely. ⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: And I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

¹¹ What is my strength, that I should hope? And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.

²⁷ You shall make your prayer to him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows. ²⁸ You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to you: And the light shall shine on your ways. ²⁹ When men are cast down, then you shall say, "There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.

⁵ I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

⁸ I will both lay myself down in peace, and sleep: For You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

⁵ Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God: For I shall yet praise Him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

²⁴ When you lie down, you shall not be afraid: Yes, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet. ²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. ²⁶ For the LORD shall be your confidence, and shall keep your foot from being taken.

³² The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: But the righteous has hope in his death.

³ And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations: Knowing that tribulation works patience; ⁴ and patience, experience; and experience, hope: ⁵ Now hope does not make us ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us.

²⁷ To whom God would make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

²⁶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chief captain of his army. ²⁷ And Isaac said to them, "Why have you come to me, seeing you hate me, and have sent me away from you?" ²⁸ And they said, "We saw for certain that the LORD was with you: And we said, 'Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you; ²⁹ that you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace: You are now the blessed of the LORD.' " ³⁰ And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. ³¹ And they rose up early in the morning, and swore to one another: And Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

⁶ And I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: And I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land.

⁸ Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: For him will I accept: Lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job. ⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according to as the LORD commanded them: The LORD also accepted Job.

¹² And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat your favor.

⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: And every man is a friend to him that gives gifts.

¹⁴ Thus says the LORD, "The labor of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over to you, and they shall be yours: They shall come after you; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down to you, they shall make supplication to you, saying, 'Surely God is in you; and there is none else, there is no other God.' "

¹⁴ Also the sons of those who afflicted you shall come bending to you; and all those who despised you shall bow themselves down at the soles of your feet; and they shall call you; The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

⁹ Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them come and worship before your feet, and to know that I have loved you.

¹⁶ I also will do this to you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

⁶⁵ And among these nations shall you find no ease, neither shall the sole of your foot have rest: But the LORD shall give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind:

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: ¹⁴ Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

⁵ He that speaks flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

¹⁴ His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?

²² For God shall cast on him, and not spare: He would fain flee out of his hand.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

³ I am weary of my crying: My throat is dried: My eyes fail while I wait for my God.

²⁴ The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁰ Whoever curses his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

¹⁷ As for us, our eyes yet failed, for our help is vain: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us.

¹⁴ Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself:

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. ²⁰ Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not light? Even very dark, and no brightness in it?

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: And He said, "Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: And cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: He that flees from them shall not flee away, and he that escapes from them shall not be delivered.cut; or, wound ² Though they dig into hell, there My hand shall take them; though they climb up to heaven, there I will bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out from there; and though they hide from My sight in the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.' ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are tormented. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: So that those which would pass from this place to you cannot; neither can those which would come from that place pass to us.'

³ how shall we escape, if we neglect such great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those that heard Him;
