¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint on myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. ² I will say to God, Do not condemn me; show me why you contend with me. ³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the ungodly? ⁴ Have you eyes of flesh? Or see you as man sees? ⁵ Are your days as the days of man? Are your years as man's days, ⁶ that you enquire after my iniquity, and search after my sin? ⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand. ⁸ Your hands have made me and fashioned me together all around; yet you do destroy me. ⁹ Remember, I beseech you, that you have made me as the clay; and will you bring me into dust again? ¹⁰ Have you not poured me out as milk, and curdled me like cheese? ¹¹ You have clothed me with skin and flesh, and have fenced me with bones and sinews. ¹² You have granted me life and favor, and your visitation has preserved my spirit. ¹³ And these things have you hid in your heart: I know that this is with you. ¹⁴ If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from my iniquity. ¹⁵ If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet I will not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see you my affliction; ¹⁶ for it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: And again you show yourself marvelous on me. ¹⁷ You renew your witnesses against me, and increase your indignation on me; changes and war are against me. ¹⁸ Why then have you brought me forth out of the womb? Oh that I had given up the ghost, and no eye had seen me! ¹⁹ I should have been as though I had not been; I should have been carried from the womb to the grave. ²⁰ Are not my days few? Cease then, and let me alone, that I may take comfort a little, ²¹ before I go from where I shall not return, even to the land of darkness and the shadow of death; ²² A land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.

¹⁵ And if you deal thus with me, kill me, I implore you, out of hand, if I have found favor in your sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

⁴ But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: And he requested for himself that he might die; and said, "It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

²⁰ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul; ²¹ which long for death, but it comes not; and dig for it more than for hid treasures; ²² which rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave? ²³ Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, and whom God has hedged in?

¹⁵ But he saves the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and iniquity stops her mouth.

²⁰ In famine he shall redeem you from death: And in war from the power of the sword.

² oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together! ³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: Therefore my words are swallowed up. ⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinks up my spirit: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

⁸ Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! ⁹ Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

²⁶ Do you imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?

¹¹ Therefore I will not refrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: Let me alone; for my days are vanity.

²¹ Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

¹⁵ If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet I will not lift up my head. I am full of confusion; therefore see you my affliction; ¹⁶ for it increases. You hunt me as a fierce lion: And again you show yourself marvelous on me.

¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

⁶ Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged: And though I forbear, what am I eased? ⁷ But now he has made me weary: You have made desolate all my company. ⁸ And you have filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: And my leanness rising up in me bears witness to my face. ⁹ He tears me in his wrath, who hates me: He gnashes on me with his teeth; my enemy sharpens his eyes upon me. ¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth; they have smitten me on the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. ¹¹ God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. ¹² I was at ease, but he has broken me asunder: He has also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers compass me all around, he splits my reins asunder, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground. ¹⁴ He breaks me with breach on breach, he runs on me like a giant. ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

⁴ And be it indeed that I have erred, my error remains with myself.

² hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations. ³ Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on. ⁴ As for me, is my complaint to man? And if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?

³ When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. ⁴ For day and night your hand was heavy upon me: My moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. ⁵ I acknowledged my sin to You, and I have not hid my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

¹⁵ What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and Himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: But in love to my soul You have delivered it from the pit of corruption: For You have cast all my sins behind Your back.

³ Therefore, O LORD, take now, I beseech You, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, such that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live."

⁵ if you would seek to God betimes, and make your supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ if you were pure and upright; surely now he would awake for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous.

²⁹ If I be wicked, why then labor I in vain?

³¹ Surely it is meet to be said to God, "I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more: ³² That which I see not teach you me: If I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

⁷ Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: According to your mercy remember me for Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath: Neither chasten me in Your hot displeasure. ² For Your arrows stick fast in me, and Your hand presses me sore. ³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. ⁴ For my iniquities have gone over my head: As a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. ⁵ My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. ⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. ⁷ For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: And there is no soundness in my flesh. ⁸ I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

²¹ But do this for me, O GOD the Lord, for Your name's sake: Because Your mercy is good, deliver me.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: ²⁴ And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

² And do not enter into judgment with Your servant: For in Your sight no man living shall be justified.

⁴⁰ Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. ⁴¹ Let us lift up our heart with our hands to God in heaven. ⁴² We have transgressed and have rebelled: You have not pardoned.

¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head: Woe to us, that we have sinned! ¹⁷ For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.

¹ There is therefore now no condemnation to those which are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

³¹ For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

²⁰ Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers:

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroys the perfect and the wicked.

²⁴ The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: He covers the faces of its judges; if not, where, and who is he?

¹⁵ You shall call, and I will answer you: You will have a desire to the work of your hands.

¹⁶ See, their good is not in their hand: The counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the ungodly is far from me.

⁵ For Job has said, "I am righteous: And God has taken away my judgment. ⁶ Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression. ⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water?

¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? And to princes, You are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? For they all are the work of his hands.

⁷ He withdraws not his eyes from the righteous: But with kings are they on the throne; yes, he does establish them forever, and they are exalted. ⁸ And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction; ⁹ then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

¹⁷ But you have fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: Judgment and justice take hold on you. ¹⁸ Because there is wrath, beware lest he take you away with his stroke: Then a great ransom cannot deliver you.

² shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? He that reproves God, let him answer it.

⁸ Will you also cancel my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

³³ For the LORD hears the poor, and does not despise His prisoners.

⁸ The LORD will perfect that which concerns me: Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever: Do not forsake the works of Your own hands.

⁸ But now, O LORD, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and we all are the work of Your hand.

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind. ³ But You, O LORD, know me: You have seen me, and tried my heart toward You: Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

² He has led me, and brought me into darkness, but not into light. ³ Surely He is turned against me; He turns his hand against me all the day long. ⁴ He has made My flesh and my skin old; He has broken my bones. ⁵ He has built against me, and compassed me with gall and travail. ⁶ He has set me in dark places, like those who have been long dead. ⁷ He has hedged me about, that I cannot get out: He has made my chain heavy. ⁸ Also when I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer. ⁹ He has enclosed my ways with hewn stone, He has made my paths crooked. ¹⁰ He was like a bear lying in wait to me, and as a lion in secret places. ¹¹ He has turned my ways aside, and pulled me into pieces: He has made me desolate. ¹² He has bent His bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow. ¹³ He has caused the arrows of His quiver to enter into my reins. ¹⁴ I was a derision to all my people; and their song all the day long. ¹⁵ He has filled me with bitterness, HJe has made me drunk with wormwood. ¹⁶ He has also broken my teeth with gravel stones, He has covered me with ashes. ¹⁷ And you have removed my soul far from peace: I forgot prosperity. ¹⁸ And I said, "My strength and my hope have perished from the LORD":

¹⁹ Therefore let those that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as to a faithful Creator.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his countenance, nor on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

³² For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

¹⁵ And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

¹⁴ His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and His eyes were as a flame of fire;

²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

² Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. ³ You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men." ⁴ For a thousand years in Your sight are as only yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

¹² But You, O LORD, shall endure forever; and Your remembrance to all generations.

²⁴ I said, "O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days: Your years are throughout all generations. ²⁵ Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth: And the heavens are the work of Your hands. ²⁶ They shall perish, but You shall endure: Yes, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture You shall change them, and they shall be changed: ²⁷ But You are the same, and Your years shall have no end.

¹² And as a vesture You shall fold them up, and they shall be changed: But You are the same, and Your years shall not fail."

⁸ But, beloved, do not be ignorant of this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

¹⁴ If I sin, then you mark me, and you will not acquit me from my iniquity. ¹⁵ If I be wicked, woe to me; and if I be righteous, yet I will not lift up my head. ¹⁶ For now you number my steps: Do you not watch over my sin?

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man: Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

²¹ shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

³⁴ Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but on all these.

¹² And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with candles, and punish the men that are settled on their lees: That say in their heart, 'The LORD will not do good, neither will He do evil.'

²⁴ But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, ²⁵ and did not need from man that any should testify: For He knew what was in man.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: And then every man shall have praise from God.

³⁹ See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: Neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take: When he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desires, even that he does. ¹⁴ For he performs the thing that is appointed for me: And many such things are with him.

⁶ let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know my integrity.

¹⁴ what then shall I do when God rises up? And when he visits, what shall I answer him?

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.

⁶ For the LORD knows the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

³ O LORD my God, If I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands;

⁸ The LORD shall judge the people: Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity that is in me. ⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: For the righteous God proves the hearts and inner reins through testing.

³ You have proved my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have examined me, and shall find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

¹ A Psalm of David. Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in my integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide. ² Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; essay my inner reins and my heart. ³ For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes: And I have walked in Your truth. ⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. ⁵ I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.

²² Now consider this, you that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

²¹ O LORD, do I not hate those that hate You? And am I not grieved with those that rise up against You? ²² I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

¹⁵ Now if you are ready that at what time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: But if you do not worship, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hands?"

¹⁰ And now I will reveal her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of My hand.

²⁸ And I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand. ²⁹ My Father, which gave them to Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father's hand. ³⁰ I and My Father are one."

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.

¹⁰ You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we ourselves behaved among you who believe:

⁶ And it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. ⁷ And the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repents Me that I have made them."

³ Is it good to you that you should oppress, that you should despise the work of your hands, and shine on the counsel of the ungodly?

⁷³ JOD: Your hands have made me and fashioned me: Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.

⁷ even everyone that is called by My name: For I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yes, I have made him."

³ Then I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he worked a work on the wheels. ⁴ And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: So he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. ⁵ Then the word of the LORD came to Me, saying, ⁶ "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?" said the LORD. "Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so you are in My hand, O house of Israel. ⁷ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; ⁸ if that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them. ⁹ And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; ¹⁰ if it does evil in My sight, that it does not obey My voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.

⁷ And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

⁷ O remember that my life is wind: My eye shall no more see good.

¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: To the worm, You are my mother, and my sister.

¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a broken clay pot fragment; and My tongue sticks to My jaws; and you have brought Me into the dust of death.

⁶ Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses; for they have been in continuance from of old. ⁷ Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: According to your mercy remember me for Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

¹⁸ Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

⁴⁷ Remember how short my time is: Why have You made all men in vain?

³ You turn man to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men."

⁴ Remember me, O LORD, with the favor that you bring forth to Your people: O visit me with Your salvation;

⁷ Then the dust shall return to the earth as it was: And the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

⁹ Woe to him that strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him who fashions it, 'What are you making?' Or your work, 'He has no handles?'

⁶ "O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter?" said the LORD. "Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so you are in My hand, O house of Israel.

²¹ Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?

¹⁴ I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Marvelous are Your works; and that my soul knows truly well. ¹⁵ My substance was not hid from You, when I was made in secret, and curiously formed in the lowest parts of the earth. ¹⁶ Your eyes saw my substance, yet being imperfect; and in Your book all my members were written, which were fashioned in continuance, when as yet there were none of them.

¹⁷ He moves his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his stones are wrapped together. ¹⁸ His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

⁴ Again He said to me, "Prophesy upon these bones, and say to them, 'O all you dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. ⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones; "Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live: ⁶ And I will lay sinews on you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live; and you shall know that I am the LORD." ' " ⁷ So I prophesied as I was commanded: And as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. ⁸ And when I beheld, lo, the sinews and the flesh came upon them, and the skin covered them above: But there was no breath in them.

² For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven: ³ If as should be that we being clothed shall not be found naked.

¹⁶ From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplies, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, makes increase of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

¹⁹ Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown to me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:

⁴ The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.

²⁵ Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor even for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

²⁵ neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, seeing He gives to all life, breath, and all things;

²⁸ For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as also certain ones of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

⁹ On the left hand side, where he does work, but I cannot behold him: He hides himself on the right hand side, that I cannot see him:

¹³ But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desires, even that he does.

⁶ Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great on him. ⁷ For he does not know that which shall be: For who can tell him when it shall be?

⁷ I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create calamity: I the LORD do all these things.

¹⁵ Truly you are a God who hides Yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

⁹ Remember the former things of old: For I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like Me, ¹⁰ declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure': ¹¹ Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country: Yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

³⁷ Who is he who speaks, and it comes to pass, when the Lord does not command it?

³³ O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!

¹¹ according to the eternal purpose which He fulfilled in Christ Jesus our Lord:

⁷ keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, to the third and to the fourth generation."

¹⁸ the LORD is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.

²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

²⁸ I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.

²⁶ For you write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the iniquities of my youth. ²⁷ You put my feet also in the stocks, and look narrowly to all my paths; you set a print on the heels of my feet.

³ If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

¹ To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me, and known me.

⁷ And the LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of My people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

¹² Behold, he takes away, who can hinder him? Who will say to him, What do you?

¹⁵ Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

²⁰ If I justify myself, my own mouth shall condemn me: If I say, "I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse. ²¹ Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

⁷ You know that I am not wicked; and there is none that can deliver out of your hand.

⁶ Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling takes hold on my flesh.

¹⁵ Therefore am I troubled at his presence: When I consider, I am afraid of him.

⁷ Let my enemy be as the wicked, and he that rises up against me as the unrighteous.

¹⁷ The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

¹⁵³ RESH: Consider my affliction, and deliver me: For I do not forget Your law.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him: For the reward of his hands shall be given him.

⁵ Then I said, "Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: For my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts."

⁵ You meet him who rejoices and works righteousness, those who remember You in Your ways: Behold, You are wroth; for we have sinned: In those is continuance, and we shall be saved. ⁶ But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

²⁰ Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: My bowels are troubled; my heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: Abroad the sword bereaves, at home it is like death.

¹ Remember, O LORD, what has come on us: Consider, and behold our reproach. ² Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens. ³ We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows. ⁴ We have drank our water for money; our wood is sold to us. ⁵ Our necks are under persecution: We labor, and have no rest. ⁶ We have given the hand to the Egyptians, and to the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread. ⁷ Our fathers have sinned, and are no more; and we have borne their iniquities. ⁸ Servants have ruled over us: There is none that does deliver us out of their hand. ⁹ We got our bread with the peril of our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. ¹⁰ Our skin was black like an oven because of the terrible famine. ¹¹ They ravished the women in Zion, and the maids in the cities of Judah. ¹² Princes are hung up by their hand: The faces of elders were not honored. ¹³ They took the young men to grind, and the children fell under the wood. ¹⁴ The elders have ceased from the gate, the young men from their music. ¹⁵ The joy of our heart has ceased; our dance has turned into mourning. ¹⁶ The crown has fallen from our head: Woe to us, that we have sinned! ¹⁷ For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim. ¹⁸ Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate, the foxes walk on it. ¹⁹ You, O LORD, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation. ²⁰ Why do You forget us forever, and forsake us so long a time? ²¹ Turn us to You, O LORD, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old. ²² But You have utterly rejected us; You are very wroth against us.

¹⁸ Then you all shall return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serves God and him that does not serve Him.

¹⁰ So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants: We have done what was our duty to do.' "

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.

⁵⁹ then the LORD will make your plagues wonderful, and the plagues of your seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.

⁹ Which does great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:

¹³ I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so He will break all my bones: From day even to night You will make an end of me.

¹⁰ He was like a bear lying in wait to me, and as a lion in secret places.

⁷ Therefore I will be to them as a lion: As a leopard by the pathway, I will observe them: ⁸ I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will tear the membrane of their heart, and I will devour them there like a lion: The wild beast shall tear them.

⁸ The lion has roared, who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken, who can help but prophesy?

²¹ I went out full, and the LORD has brought me back home empty: Why then do you call me Naomi, seeing the LORD has testified against me, and the Almighty has afflicted me?"

⁸ And you have filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: And my leanness rising up in me bears witness to my face.

⁶ Know now that God has overthrown me, and has compassed me with his net. ⁷ Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment. ⁸ He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths. ⁹ He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head. ¹⁰ He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: And my hope has he removed like a tree. ¹¹ He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me to him as one of his enemies.

¹⁹ God shall hear, and afflict them, even He that abides of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they do not fear God.

¹¹ Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his lees, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity: Therefore his taste remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

¹⁰ Because it shut not up the doors of my mother's womb, nor hid sorrow from my eyes. ¹¹ Why died I not from the womb? Why did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly?

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.

¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: Yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he?

¹⁰ Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor have men lent to me on usury; yet every one of them does curse me.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day in which I was born: Let not the day in which my mother bore me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, "A man child is born to you"; making him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and did not repent: And let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noon; ¹⁷ because he did not slay me from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to always be enlarged with me. ¹⁸ Why did I come forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

²⁴ The Son of Man goes as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."

⁸ As a snail which melts, let every one of them pass away: Like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

⁶ My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope. ⁷ O remember that my life is wind: My eye shall no more see good.

¹⁶ I loathe it; I would not live always: Let me alone; for my days are vanity. ¹⁷ What is man, that you should magnify him? And that you should set your heart on him? ¹⁸ And that you should visit him every morning, and try him every moment? ¹⁹ How long will you not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow down my spittle? ²⁰ I have sinned; what shall I do to you, O you preserver of men? Why have you set me as a mark against you, so that I am a burden to myself? ²¹ And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now shall I sleep in the dust; and you shall seek me in the morning, but I shall not be.

⁹ (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow):

²⁵ Now my days are swifter than a post: They flee away, they see no good. ²⁶ They are passed away as the swift ships: As the eagle that hastens to the prey.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me: And let not your dread make me afraid.

¹ Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

⁵ Behold, You have made my days as a hand-breadth; and my age is as nothing before you: Truly every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

¹³ O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go away, and am no more.

¹⁵ As for man, his days are as grass: As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. ¹⁶ For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and the place where it was shall know it no more.

²³ But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

¹⁴ For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither does God respect any person: Yet does he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him.

⁵ Let darkness and the shadow of death stain it; let a cloud dwell on it; let the blackness of the day terrify it.

¹³ For now should I have lain still and been quiet, I should have slept: Then had I been at rest,

⁸ The eye of him that has seen me shall see me no more: Your eyes are on me, and I am not. ⁹ As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away: So he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more. ¹⁰ He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

¹⁰ But man dies, and wastes away: Yes, man gives up the ghost, and where is he? ¹¹ As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up: ¹² So man lies down, and rises not: Till heaven be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. ¹³ O that you would hide me in the grave, that you would keep me secret, until your wrath be past, that you would appoint me a set time, and remember me! ¹⁴ If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

²² When a few years are come, then I shall go the way from where I shall not return.

⁴ Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.

⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

¹¹ Shall Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in destruction? ¹² Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

¹¹ I said, "I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

⁶ Neither did they say, 'Where is the LORD who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelled?'

²² There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?

¹⁹ though You have severely broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death.

¹² Shall Your wonders be known in the dark? And Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before He causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, He turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: So that those which would pass from this place to you cannot; neither can those which would come from that place pass to us.'
