¹² Set up the standard on the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes: For the LORD has both devised and done that which He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹⁴ And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at a time appointed, before the plain; but he did not know that there were liers in ambush against him behind the city.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

⁹ Associate yourselves, O you people, and you shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all you of far countries: Gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and you shall be broken in pieces. ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it shall come to nothing; speak the word, and it shall not stand: For God is with us."

² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.

³ "Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses; and get up you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the body armor. ⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back away? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: For fear was all around", said the LORD.

² "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.'

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.

²⁷ Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz against her; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up like the rough locusts.

²⁹ And the land shall tremble and sorrow: Forevery purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.

¹⁷ The LORD has done that which He had devised; He has fulfilled His word that He had commanded in the days of old: He has thrown down, and has not pitied: And He has caused your enemy to rejoice over you, He has set up the horn of your adversaries.

² I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for My people and for My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and divided My land.

⁹ Proclaim this among the Gentiles; "Prepare war", wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: ¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning-hooks into spears: Let the weak say, "I am strong." ¹¹ Assemble yourselves, and come, all you heathen, and gather yourselves together all around: Cause Your mighty ones to come down to that place, O LORD. ¹² Let the heathen be awakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: For there I will sit to judge all the heathen compassed around. ¹³ Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: Come, get down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. ¹⁴ Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.

¹ He that dashes in pieces has come up before your face: Keep the fortification, watch the way, make your loins strong, fortify your power mightily.

¹⁴ Draw yourself waters for the siege, fortify your strongholds: Go into clay, and tread the mortar, make strong the brick kiln. ¹⁵ There the fire shall devour you; the sword shall cut you off, it shall eat you up like the cankerworm: Make yourself many as the cankerworm, make yourself many as the locusts.
