⁵ "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel; 'Like these good figs, so I will acknowledge those who are carried away captive of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans for their good.

¹⁶ who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers knew not, that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;

¹² Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, and teach him out of Your law; ¹³ that You may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked. ¹⁴ For the LORD will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted I went astray: But now I have kept Your word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Your statutes.

⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those that trust in Him.

⁹ And I will bring the one-third through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will prove them through testing as gold is proved: They shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, 'It is My people': And they shall say, 'The LORD is my God.' "

¹² But he answered and said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.'

²⁷ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me:

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

³ But if any man loves God, the same is known of Him.

⁹ But now, after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly principles, to which you desire again to be in bondage?

¹⁹ Nevertheless the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal: "The Lord knows those that are His." And, "Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity."

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him: ⁶ For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives." ⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if you are without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then you are bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: Should we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed chastened us for a few days according to their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: Therefore be zealous, and repent.
