We shall not die. O LORD, You have ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, You have established them for correction. ¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity: Why do You look upon those that deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he? ¹⁴ And make men as the fish of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? ¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. ¹⁷ Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare to continually slay the nations?

¹ How long will You forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

⁹ Why should You be like an astonished man, like a mighty man that cannot save? Yet You, O LORD, are in the midst of us, and we are called by Your name; do not leave us.

⁸ Also when I cry and shout, He shuts out my prayer.

¹⁰ And they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell on the earth?"

⁹ Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues: For I have seen violence and strife in the city. ¹⁰ Day and night they go about it upon its walls: Mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it. ¹¹ Wickedness is in the midst of it: Deceit and guile do not depart from her streets.

³ For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no chains in their death: But their strength is firm. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men. ⁶ Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish. ⁸ They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: They speak loftily. ⁹ They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

⁵ Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar! ⁶ My soul has long dwelt with him who hates peace.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: And behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

⁸ If you see the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, do not marvel at the matter: For he who is higher than the highest observes; and there be higher than they.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ "And like their bow they bend their tongues for lies: But they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me", said the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone take heed of his neighbor, and do not trust in any brother: Forevery brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will walk with slanders. ⁵ And everyone will deceive his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: They have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity. ⁶ Your habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me", said the LORD.

⁸ For since I spoke, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach to me, and a derision, daily.

⁶ And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you dwell among scorpions: Do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house.

¹ Woe is me! For I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape-gleanings of the vintage: There is no cluster to eat: My soul desired the first ripe fruit. ² The good man has perished out of the earth: And there is none upright among men: They all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man, his brother, with a net.good; or, godly, or, merciful ³ That they may do evil with both hands earnestly, the prince asks, and the judge asks for a reward; and the great man, he utters his mischievous desire: So they wrap it up.his mischievous desire: In Hebrew, the mischief of his soul ⁴ The best of them is as a brier: The most upright is sharper than a thorn hedge: The day of your watchmen and your visitation comes; now shall be their perplexity.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: Therefore be wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

⁸ (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds);

² You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shall you speak in a court case to decline morally after many to wrest judgment:speak: In Hebrew, answer

⁶ You shall not wrest the judgment of your poor in his court case.

¹⁹ You shall not wrest judgment; you shall not respect persons, neither take a gift: For a gift does blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: And the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

⁷ Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, are mighty in power?

³ If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

¹⁶ For dogs have compassed around Me: The assembly of the wicked have enclosed Me: They pierced My hands and My feet.

² Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

¹ A Psalm of Asaph. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. ² How long will you judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Defend the poor and fatherless: Do justice to the afflicted and needy. ⁴ Deliver the poor and needy: Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked. ⁵ They do not know, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: All the foundations of the earth are out of course.

²⁰ Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, those which frame mischief by a law? ²¹ They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

¹²⁶ It is time for You, LORD, to work: For they have made void Your law.

²¹ How has the faithful city become a harlot! It was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers. ²² Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water: ²³ Your princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: Everyone loves gifts, and follows after rewards: They do not judge the fatherless, neither does the cause of the widow come to them.

²⁰ Woe to those that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

² But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear. ³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness. ⁴ No one calls for justice, nor does anyone plead for truth: They trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity. ⁵ They hatch cockatrice' eggs, and weave the spider's web: He who eats of their eggs dies, and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper. ⁶ Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: Their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. ⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. ⁸ The way of peace they do not know; and there is no judgment in their goings: They have made them crooked paths: Whoever goes in them shall not know peace.

¹³ in transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. ¹⁴ And judgment is turned away backward, and justice stands afar off: For truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. ¹⁵ Yes, truth fails; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey: And the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him that there was no judgment.

²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: Therefore they have become great, and waxen rich. ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: Yes, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: They do not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy they do not judge. ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things?' said the LORD: 'shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously?

⁶ For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; yes, they have called a multitude after you: Do not believe them, though they speak fair words to you.

⁸ Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, "You shall surely die.

²¹ And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: But when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt; ²² and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, namely, Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him into Egypt. ²³ And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him to Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

¹⁴ Then Jeremiah said, "It is false; I do not fall away to the Chaldeans." But he did not listen to him: So Irijah took Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes. ¹⁵ Therefore the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe: For they had made that the prison. ¹⁶ When Jeremiah entered into the dungeon, and into the cabins, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

⁴ Therefore the princes said to the king, "We beseech you, let this man be put to death: For thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: For this man seeks not the welfare of this people, but the hurt." ⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, "Behold, he is in your hand: For the king is not he who can do anything against you." ⁶ Then they took Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: And they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: So Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

⁹ Then said He to me, "The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perverseness: For they say, 'The LORD has forsaken the earth, and the LORD does not see.'

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst of her, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst of her. ²⁶ Her priests have violated My law, and have profaned My holy things: They have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they showed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from My Sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her princes in the middle of her are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. ²⁸ And her prophets have daubed them with untempered mortar, seeing vanity, and divining lies to them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord GOD', when the LORD has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: Yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. ³⁰ And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should not destroy it: But I found none.

⁴ They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: Thus judgment springs up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁷ You who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,

¹² For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: They afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their rights.

¹ Woe to those that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: So they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.oppress; or, defraud

¹ And I said, "Hear, I implore you, O heads of Jacob, and all you princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment? ² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ who also eat the flesh of My people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron."

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes: And some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, elders, and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put Him to death; ⁶⁰ but found none: Yes, though many false witnesses came, yet they found none. Finally two false witnesses came, ⁶¹ and said, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.' " ⁶² And the high priest arose, and said to Him, "Do You answer nothing? What is it which these witness against You?" ⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to Him, "I adjure You by the living God, that You tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God." ⁶⁴ Jesus said to Him, "You have said it: Nevertheless I say to you all, in time to come you shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." ⁶⁵ Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy; what need do we have of any further witnesses? Behold, now you have heard His blasphemy. ⁶⁶ What do you think?" They answered and said, "He is guilty of death."

¹ When the morning came, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put Him to death: ² And when they had bound Him, they led Him away, and delivered Him to the governor Pontius Pilate.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children." ²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them: And when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.

⁹ And He said to them, "Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition.

⁵² Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain those which foretold of the coming of the Just One; of whom you now have been the betrayers and murderers:

⁵⁹ And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

¹² And when it was day, certain ones of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. ¹³ Now there were more than forty who had committed to this conspiracy. ¹⁴ And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, "We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: Indeed, we establish the law.

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats? ⁷ Do they not blaspheme that worthy name by which you are called?

²⁷ And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and you shall be left few in number among the heathen, where the LORD shall lead you.

²¹ For the LORD shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, He shall be angry as in the valley of Gibeon, that He may do his work, His strange work; and bring to pass His act, His strange act. ²² Now therefore you shall not be mockers, lest your bands be made strong: For I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined on the whole earth.

⁹ Stop yourselves, and wonder; cry out, and cry: They are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink.

¹⁴ Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid."

¹² They have lied concerning the LORD, and said, "It is not He; neither shall evil come on us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: ¹³ And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: Thus shall it be done to them."

²⁵ "Behold, the days come", said the LORD, "that I will punish all those who are circumcised with the uncircumcised; ²⁶ egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all who are in the utmost corners, who dwell in the wilderness: For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart."

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' " ¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." ' ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: For I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth", said the LORD of hosts.'

¹² The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not have believed that the adversary and the enemy would have entered into the gates of Jerusalem.

²² "Son of man, what is that proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, 'The days are prolonged, and every vision fails?' ²³ Tell them therefore, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no longer use it as a proverb in Israel"; but say to them, "The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision. ²⁴ For there shall be no longer any vain vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel. ²⁵ For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall not be prolonged any longer: For in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the word, and will perform it", said the Lord GOD. ²⁶ Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying. ²⁷ "Son of man, behold, those of the house of Israel say, 'The vision that he sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of the times that are far off.' ²⁸ Therefore say to them, "Thus says the Lord GOD; 'My words shall not be prolonged any longer, but the word which I have spoken shall be done", said the Lord GOD.' "

¹² And He has confirmed His words, which He spoke against us, and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great evil: For under the whole heaven it has not been done as has been done upon Jerusalem.

² "I will utterly consume all things from off the land", says the LORD.the land: In Hebrew, the face of the land

¹³ and set up false witnesses, which said, "This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered to us."

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that which is spoken of in the prophets come upon you; ⁴¹ 'Behold, you despisers, wonder, and perish: For I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no way believe, though a man declare it to you.' "

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ A nation of fierce countenance, which shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young: ⁵¹ And he shall eat the fruit of your domestic beasts, and the fruit of your land, until you be destroyed: Which also shall not leave you either grain, wine, or oil, or the increase of your cows, or flocks of your sheep, until he have destroyed you. ⁵² And he shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fenced walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land: And he shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you.

² And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldeans, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

⁶ Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and bound him in fetters, to carry him to Babylon.

¹⁷ Therefore he brought on them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or maiden, old man, or him that stooped for age: He gave them all into his hand.

¹³ Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, until the Assyrian founded it for those that dwell in the wilderness: They set up its towers, they raised up its palaces; and he brought it to ruin.

⁶ 'Behold, the days come, that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: Nothing shall be left', said the LORD. ⁷ And of your sons that shall issue from you, which you shall beget, they shall take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon."

¹⁵ For lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north", said the LORD; "and they shall come, and they shall each one set his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah. ¹⁶ And I will utter My judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken Me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.

⁶ Set up the standard toward Zion: Retire, do not stay: For I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction."

⁸ For this gird yourself with sackcloth, lament and howl: For the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

¹⁵ See, I will bring a nation from afar upon you, O house of Israel", said the LORD: "it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, neither can you understand what they say.

²² Thus says the LORD, "Behold, a people comes from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth. ²³ They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, as men of war set in array against you, O daughter of Zion.

⁴ 'Thus says the LORD God of Israel; "Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, who besiege you outside the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹⁹ Neither shall you steal.

²⁷ Go you near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: And speak you to us all that the LORD our God shall speak to you; and we will hear it, and do it.

⁷ In that time the present shall be brought to the LORD of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning until now; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, the Mount Zion.

⁵ But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: And when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment on him. ⁶ Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: Also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah. ⁷ Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon. ⁸ And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and broke down the walls of Jerusalem. ⁹ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to him, with the rest of the people who remained.

⁹ Then they took the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment on him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: He also slew all the princes of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death.

²⁵ He took also out of the city an eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of those that were near the king's person, which were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land; and three score men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city. ²⁶ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land.

⁴⁹ The LORD shall bring a nation against you from far, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies; a nation whose tongue you shall not understand;

²⁶ And He will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss to them from the end of the earth: And behold, they shall come swiftly with speed: ²⁷ None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the lace of their shoes be broken: ²⁸ Whose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent, their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and their wheels like a whirlwind:

¹³ Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: His horses are swifter than eagles. Woe to us! For we are spoiled."

⁶ Why a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: Every one who goes out there shall be torn in pieces: Because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings have increased.

¹⁹ Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of heaven: They pursued us upon the mountains, they laid in wait for us in the wilderness.

³ and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "A great eagle with great wings, long winged, full of feathers, which had various colors, came to Lebanon, and took the highest branch of the cedar:

¹² "Say now to the rebellious house, 'Do you not know what these things mean?' Tell them, 'Behold, the king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem, and has taken its king, and its princes, and led them with him to Babylon;

¹ "Set the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed My covenant, and trespassed against My law.

³ Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not gnaw the bones until the next day.

²⁸ For wherever the carcase is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

³⁷ And they answered and said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together."

⁴⁹ And Joseph gathered grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left off numbering; for it was without number.

¹² And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

¹⁸ Then I said, "I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

¹⁸ If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with You.

⁸ In measure, when Israel shoots forth, You will debate with it: He maintains His rough wind in the day of the east wind.

⁷ The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

¹¹ At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "A dry wind of the high places blows in the wilderness toward the daughter of My people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

¹⁵ See, I will bring a nation from afar upon you, O house of Israel", said the LORD: "it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language you do not know, neither can you understand what they say. ¹⁶ Their quiver is as an open sepulcher, they are all mighty men. ¹⁷ And they shall eat up your harvest, and your bread, which your sons and your daughters should eat: They shall eat up your flocks and your herds: They shall eat up your vines and your fig trees: They shall impoverish your fenced cities, in which you trusted, with the sword.

⁸ Their widows will be increased to Me more than the sand of the seas: I have brought against them, against the mother of the young men, a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon them suddenly, and terrors on the city.

²² 'Behold, I will command', said the LORD, 'and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant.' "

¹⁰ Yes, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? Shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind touches it? It shall wither in the furrows where it grew." ' "

¹² But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: Her strong rods were broken and withered; the fire consumed them.

¹⁰ Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people', there it shall be said to them, 'You are the sons of the living God.'

¹⁵ Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: He shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

⁶ For lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, which shall march through the breadth of the land, to possess the dwelling places that are not their's.

⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people: ⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them? ⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. ¹² Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! ¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves in quest of much vanity?

²⁷ Isaiah also cries out concerning Israel, "Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:

¹² And Jehoiachin the king of Judah went out to the king of Babylon, he, and his mother, and his servants, and his princes, and his officers: And the king of Babylon took him in the eighth year of his reign.

⁶ So they took the king, and brought him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah; and they gave judgment on him. ⁷ And they slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.

¹⁰ And when the year was expired, king Nebuchadnezzar sent, and brought him to Babylon, with the goodly vessels of the house of the LORD, and made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Those that see you shall narrowly look on you, and consider you, saying, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms;

²⁴ Behold the mounts, they have come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: And what you have spoken has come to pass; and behold, You see it.

⁴ For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword;

⁴ And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem, he and all his army, and pitched against it, and built forts against it on every side. ⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ And in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land. ⁷ Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city on all sides): And they went by the way of the plain.

¹¹ At that time it shall be said to this people and to Jerusalem, "A dry wind of the high places blows in the wilderness toward the daughter of My people, not to fan, nor to cleanse, ¹² even a full wind from those places shall come to Me: Now I will also give sentence against them.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?" ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, "O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; the kingdom has departed from you. ³² And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the wild beasts of the field: They shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He wills." ³³ The same hour the thing was fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: And he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. ³⁴ And at the end of the days, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored Him that lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation:

³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was disposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

⁴ He is the Rock, his work is perfect: For all his ways are judgment: A God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

³⁰ How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up? ³¹ For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

²⁷ The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: And he shall thrust out the enemy from before you; and shall say, "Destroy them.

² There is none holy as the LORD: For there is none beside You: Neither is there any rock like our God.

²⁵ Have you not heard long ago how I have done it, and of ancient times that I have formed it? Now have I brought it to pass, that you should be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heaps.

¹³ Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, cast him down: Deliver my soul from the wicked, which are Your sword:

¹ To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, "I will love You, O LORD, my strength.

² Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

² Your throne is established of old: You are from everlasting.

¹⁷ I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

⁵ O Assyrian, the rod of My anger, and the staff in their hand is My indignation. ⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and I will give him a charge against the people of my wrath, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire in the streets. ⁷ However, he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off not a few nations.

⁶ He shall cause those that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. ⁷ Has He smitten Israel, as He smote those who smote Israel? Or is He slain according to the slaughter of the Israelites that are slain by Him? ⁸ In measure, when Israel shoots forth, You will debate with it: He maintains His rough wind in the day of the east wind. ⁹ By this therefore the iniquity of Jacob shall be purged; and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he makes all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten to pieces, the wooden pillars and images shall not stand up. ¹⁰ Yet the defended city shall be desolate, and the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: There the calf shall feed, and there he shall lie down, and consume its branches.

²⁶ Have you not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, that you should lay waste defended cities into ruinous heaps.

²⁸ Have you not known? Have you not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint, nor is weary? There is no searching of His understanding.

¹⁵ I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.

⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and His Holy One, to Him whom man despises, to Him whom the nation abhors, to a Servant of rulers, "Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of the LORD who is faithful, and the Holy One of Israel, and He shall choose You."

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

²⁷ For thus has the LORD said, "The whole land shall be desolate; yet I will not make a full end of it.

¹⁸ Nevertheless in those days", said the LORD, "I will not make a full end of you.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. ¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' "

¹¹ For I am with you', said the LORD, 'to save you: Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet I will not make a full end of you: But I will correct you in measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.'

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself saying; 'You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke: Turn me, and I shall be turned; for you are the LORD My God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote on my thigh: I was ashamed, yes, even confounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.' ²⁰ Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I earnestly do remember him still: Therefore My bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy on him", said the LORD.

²⁴ 'Consider not what this people has spoken, saying, "The two families which the LORD has chosen, has he cast even them off?" Thus they have despised My people, that they should no more be a nation before them.' ²⁵ Thus says the LORD; 'If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth; ²⁶ then I will cast away the seed of Jacob and David My servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: For I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.' "

²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob My servant", said the LORD: "for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you: But I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet I will not leave you wholly unpunished."

¹⁹ You, O LORD, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation.

²⁵ But I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh shall fall down; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall put My sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out upon the land of Egypt.

¹¹ Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: Behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: We are cut off for our parts. ¹² Therefore prophesy and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, O My people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. ¹³ And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O My people, and brought you up out of your graves, ¹⁴ and shall put My spirit in you, and you shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: Then you shall know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it", said the LORD.' "

⁸ Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; except that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob", says the LORD. ⁹ "For lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve, yet the smallest grain shall not fall upon the earth.sift: In Hebrew, cause to movegrain: In Hebrew, stone

² "But you, Bethlehem Ephratah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you He shall come forth to Me that is to be Ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."

² O LORD, I have heard Your speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive Your work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.

⁶ "For I am the LORD, I do not change; therefore all you sons of Jacob are not consumed.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you;

¹⁷ Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

¹⁶ who only has immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man has seen, nor can see: To whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

¹⁰ And, "You, Lord, have laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning; and the heavens are the works of Your hands: ¹¹ They shall perish; but You remain; and they shall all wax old as does a garment; ¹² And as a vesture You shall fold them up, and they shall be changed: But You are the same, and Your years shall not fail."

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, "My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are rebuked by Him: ⁶ For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives."

⁸ Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

⁸ "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending", says the Lord, "which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

¹¹ saying, "I am Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last": And, "What you see, write in a book, and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia; to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

¹¹ How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house on his bed? Shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?

³² And the LORD shall return his blood on his own head, who fell on two men more righteous and better than he, and slew them with the sword, my father David not knowing of it, to wit, Abner the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah.

¹⁴ For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then enlargement and deliverance shall arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house shall be destroyed: And who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?"

¹⁵ Behold, he puts no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

⁴ For You are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness: Neither shall evil dwell with You. ⁵ The foolish shall not stand in Your sight: You hate all workers of iniquity.

¹ Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble? ² The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor: Let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man: Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

⁴ The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: His eyes behold and His eyelids examine the children of men. ⁵ The LORD proves the righteous through testing: But His soul hates the wicked and him that loves violence. ⁶ Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: This shall be the portion of their cup. ⁷ For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. ¹⁶ The face of the LORD is against those that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

²² This You have seen, O LORD: Do not keep silent: O Lord, do not be far from me.

¹² The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes on him with his teeth. ¹³ The Lord shall laugh at him: For He sees that his day is coming. ¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as are of upright conversation. ¹⁵ Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

³² The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

³ Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: A fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself: But I will reprove you, and set them in order before your eyes.

¹ Woe to you who plunder, and you were not plundered; and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease to plunder, you shall be plundered; and when you make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

¹² Will You refrain Yourself for these things, O LORD? Will You hold Your peace, and afflict us very sore?

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously? ² You have planted them, yes, they have taken root: They grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: You are near in their mouth, and far from their mind.

³ Why do You show me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? For spoiling and violence are before me: And there are things that raise up strife and contention. ⁴ Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment never goes forth: For the wicked compass around the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceeds.

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Son Jesus; whom you delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let Him go. ¹⁴ But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you; ¹⁵ and killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.

¹⁵ But as He which has called you is holy, so likewise you be holy in all manner of conversation; ¹⁶ because it is written, "Be holy; for I am holy."

⁷ Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: He lies in wait to catch the poor: He does catch the poor, when he draws him into his net.

⁸ The fishers shall also mourn, and all those who cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and those that spread nets on the waters shall languish.

¹⁶ Behold, I will send for many fishers", said the LORD, "and they shall fish them; and afterwards I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

¹¹ "Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage, because you have grown fat like a heifer in the grass, and bellow like bulls;

¹⁵ All who pass by clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, "Is this the city that men call 'The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth'?" ¹⁶ All your enemies have opened their mouth against you: They hiss and gnash the teeth: They say, "We have swallowed her up: Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it."

⁶ For thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your spite against the land of Israel;

² "Son of man, because Tyrus has said against Jerusalem, 'Aha, she who was the gates of the people is broken: She has turned to me: I shall be replenished, now she is laid waste:'

⁴ But I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will cause the fish of your rivers to stick to your scales, and I will bring you up out of the midst of your rivers, and all the fish of your rivers shall stick to your scales. ⁵ And I will leave you thrown into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers: You shall fall upon the open fields; you shall not be brought together, nor gathered: I have given you to the wild beasts of the field and to the fowls of the heaven for meat.

¹⁵ As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will do to you: You shall be desolate, O Mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: And they shall know that I am the LORD." ' "

² The Lord GOD has sworn by His holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that He will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.

²⁷ Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go to the sea, and cast a hook, and take up the fish that first comes up; and when you have opened his mouth, you shall find a piece of money: Take that, and give it to them for Me and you."

⁵ And Simon answering said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: Nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." ⁶ And when they had done this, they inclosed a great multitude of fish: And their net broke. ⁷ Therefore they beckoned to their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. ⁸ When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord." ⁹ For he was astonished, and all who were with him, at the draw of the fish which they had taken: ¹⁰ And so also were James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not fear; from this time forward you shall catch men."

⁶ And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and you shall find some." Therefore they casted, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish. ⁷ Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord." Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his fisherman's coat (for he was naked), and cast himself into the sea. ⁸ And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.200 Roman cubits is approximately 290 feet or 88.4 meters. ⁹ Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid upon it, and bread. ¹⁰ Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have now caught." ¹¹ Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of large fish, one hundred and fifty three: And although there were so many, yet the net was not broken.

¹⁰ And those that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts to one another; because these two prophets tormented those that dwelt on the earth.

¹⁷ and you say in your heart, My power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.

¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man: ¹⁴ And my hand has found as a nest the riches of the people: And as one gathers eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped." ¹⁵ Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shakes it? As if the rod should shake itself against those that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift itself up, as if it were not wood.

²⁴ By your servants you have reproached the Lord, and have said, "By the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and its choice fir trees: And I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

³ Behold, you are wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from you:

³ Speak, and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon who lies in the middle of his rivers, who has said, 'My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.'

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?"

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified:

¹¹ Then his mind shall change, and he shall pass over, and offend, imputing his power to his god."

⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

¹⁶ Those that see you shall narrowly look on you, and consider you, saying, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; ¹⁷ that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities of it; who did not open the house of his prisoners?"

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. ¹⁰ Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle. ¹¹ And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. ¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' " ¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them." ¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

¹ The word of the LORD which came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Gentiles; ² against Egypt, against the army of Pharaohnecho king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah. ³ "Order the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses; and get up you horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, and put on the body armor. ⁵ Why have I seen them dismayed and turned back away? And their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled quickly, and do not look back: For fear was all around", said the LORD. ⁶ "Do not let the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they shall stumble, and fall toward the north by the river Euphrates. ⁷ Who is this who comes up as a flood, whose waters are moved as the rivers? ⁸ Egypt rises up like a flood, and his waters are moved like the rivers; and he said, 'I will go up, and will cover the earth; I will destroy the city and its inhabitants.' ⁹ Come up, you horses; and rage, you chariots; and let the mighty men come forth; the Ethiopians and the Libyans, who handle the shield; and the Lydians, who handle and bend the bow. ¹⁰ For this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, that He may avenge Him of his adversaries: And the sword shall devour, and it shall be satiate and made drunk with their blood: For the Lord GOD of hosts has a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates. ¹¹ Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: In vain you shall use many medicines; for you shall not be cured. ¹² The nations have heard of your shame, and your cry has filled the land: For the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty, and they have both fallen together." ¹³ The word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet, how Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ "Declare in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Noph and in Tahpanhes: Say you, 'Stand fast, and prepare yourselves; for the sword shall devour all around you.' ¹⁵ Why are your valiant men swept away? They did not stand because the LORD drove them away. ¹⁶ He made many fall, yes, one fell on another: And they said, 'Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.' ¹⁷ They cried there, 'Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he has passed the appointed time.' ¹⁸ "As I live", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts, "Surely as Tabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come. ¹⁹ O you daughter dwelling in Egypt, furnish yourself to go into captivity: For Noph shall be waste and desolate without an inhabitant. ²⁰ Egypt is like a very fair heifer, but destruction comes; it comes out of the north. ²¹ Also her hired men are in the midst of her like fattened bulls; for they are also turned back, and have fled away together: They did not stand, because the day of their calamity had come on them, and the time of their visitation. ²² The sound of it is like a serpent as it goes; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood. ²³ They shall cut down her forest', said the LORD, 'though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the grasshoppers, and are innumerable.' ²⁴ The daughter of Egypt shall be confounded; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north. ²⁵ The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, said; "Behold, I will punish the multitude of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with their gods, and their kings; even Pharaoh, and all those who trust in him: ²⁶ And I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: And afterward it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old", said the LORD. ²⁷ "But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel: For, behold, I will save you from afar off, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and be in rest and at ease, and none shall make him afraid. ²⁸ Do not fear, O Jacob My servant", said the LORD: "for I am with you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have driven you: But I will not make a full end of you, but correct you in measure; yet I will not leave you wholly unpunished."

¹ Zedekiah was one and twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ² And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Jehoiakim had done. ³ For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, until He had cast them out from His presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. ⁴ And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came against Jerusalem, he and all his army, and pitched against it, and built forts against it on every side. ⁵ So the city was besieged to the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. ⁶ And in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine was severe in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land. ⁷ Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city on all sides): And they went by the way of the plain. ⁸ But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him. ⁹ Then they took the king, and carried him up to the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment on him. ¹⁰ And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: He also slew all the princes of Judah in Riblah. ¹¹ Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison until the day of his death. ¹² Now in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, who served the king of Babylon, came into Jerusalem, ¹³ and burned the house of the LORD, and the king's house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, and all the houses of the great men, he burned with fire: ¹⁴ And all the army of the Chaldeans, who were with the captain of the guard, broke down all the walls of Jerusalem on every side. ¹⁵ Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive certain of the poor of the people, and the residue of the people who remained in the city, and those who fell away, who fell to the king of Babylon, and the rest of the multitude. ¹⁶ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left certain of the poor of the land for vinedressers and for farmers. ¹⁷ Also the pillars of brass that were in the house of the LORD, and the bases, and the brazen sea that was in the house of the LORD, the Chaldeans broke, and carried all the brass of them to Babylon. ¹⁸ The caldrons also, and the shovels, and the snuffers, and the bowls, and the spoons, and all the vessels of brass with which they ministered, they took away. ¹⁹ And the basins, and the fire-pans, and the bowls, and the caldrons, and the candlesticks, and the spoons, and the cups; that which was of gold in gold, and that which was of silver in silver, the captain of the guard took away. ²⁰ The two pillars, one sea, and twelve brazen bulls that were under the bases, which king Solomon had made in the house of the LORD: The brass of all these vessels was without weight. ²¹ And concerning the pillars, the height of one pillar was eighteen cubits; and a fillet of twelve cubits did compass it; and the thickness of it was four fingers: It was hollow. ²² And a capital of brass was on it; and the height of one capital was five cubits, with network and pomegranates on the capitals all around, all of brass. The second pillar also and the pomegranates were like these. ²³ And there were ninety-six pomegranates on a side; and all the pomegranates on the network were a hundred all around. ²⁴ And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, and Zephaniah the second priest, and the three keepers of the door: ²⁵ He took also out of the city an eunuch, which had the charge of the men of war; and seven men of those that were near the king's person, which were found in the city; and the principal scribe of the host, who mustered the people of the land; and three score men of the people of the land, that were found in the midst of the city. ²⁶ So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah. ²⁷ And the king of Babylon smote them, and put them to death in Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive out of his own land. ²⁸ This is the people whom Nebuchadrezzar carried away captive: In the seventh year three thousand and twenty-three Jews: ²⁹ In the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar he carried away captive from Jerusalem eight hundred and thirty-two persons: ³⁰ In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadrezzar Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred and forty-five persons: All the persons were four thousand six hundred. ³¹ And it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-fifth day of the month, that Evilmerodach king of Babylon in the first year of his reign lifted up the head of Jehoiachin king of Judah, and brought him forth out of prison. ³² And spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings who were with him in Babylon, ³³ and changed his prison garments: And he continually ate bread before him all the days of his life. ³⁴ And for his diet, there was a continual diet given him by the king of Babylon, every day a portion until the day of his death, all the days of his life.

¹ The word of the LORD came to me again, saying, ² "Son of man, set your face against the Ammonites, and prophesy against them; ³ and say to the Ammonites, 'Hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you said, 'Aha', against My sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity; ⁴ behold, therefore I will deliver you to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall set their palaces in you, and make their dwellings in you: They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk. ⁵ And I will make Rabbah a stable for camels, and the Ammonites a couching place for flocks: And you shall know that I am the LORD." ⁶ For thus says the Lord GOD; "Because you have clapped your hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all your spite against the land of Israel; ⁷ behold, therefore I will stretch out My hand upon you, and will deliver you for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut you off from the people, and I will cause you to perish out of the countries: I will destroy you; and you shall know that I am the LORD." ⁸ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because Moab and Seir say, 'Behold, the house of Judah is like all the heathen;' ⁹ Therefore, behold, I will open the side of Moab from the cities, from his cities which are on his frontiers, the glory of the country, Bethjeshimoth, Baalmeon, and Kiriathaim, ¹⁰ to the men of the east with the Ammonites, and will give them possession, that the Ammonites may not be remembered among the nations. ¹¹ And I will execute judgments on Moab; and they shall know that I am the LORD." ¹² Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended, and revenged himself on them;" ¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "I will also stretch out My hand upon Edom, and will cut off man and beast from it; and I will make it desolate from Teman; and those from Dedan shall fall by the sword. ¹⁴ And I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel: And they shall do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance", said the Lord GOD. ¹⁵ Thus says the Lord GOD; "Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a spiteful heart, to destroy it for the old hatred;" ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD; "Behold, I will stretch out My hand upon the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethims, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast. ¹⁷ And I will execute great vengeance on them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay My vengeance on them." ' "

⁹ They shall all come for violence: Their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. ¹⁰ And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn to them: They shall deride every stronghold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people: ⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them? ⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.

¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.
