¹ I will stand on my watch, and set myself upon the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. ² And the LORD answered me, and said, "Write the vision, and make it plain upon tablets, that he may run that reads it. ³ For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. ⁴ Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: But the just shall live by his faith. ⁵ Yes also, because he transgresses by wine, he is a proud man, neither keeps at home, who enlarges his desire as hell, and is as death, and cannot be satisfied, but gathers to him all nations, and heaps to him all people: ⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, 'Woe to him that increases that which is not his! How long? And woe to him that lades himself with thick clay!'? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that will bite you, and awake that shall vex you, and you shall be for booty to them? ⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ⁹ Woe to him that covets an evil covetousness to establish his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it. ¹² Woe to him that builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity! ¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves in quest of much vanity? ¹⁴ For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea. ¹⁵ Woe to him that gives his neighbor drink, that puts your bottle to him, and also makes him drunk, that you may look on their nakedness! ¹⁶ You are filled with shame for glory: Drink also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: The cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned toward you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory. ¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it. ¹⁸ What profits the graven image that its maker has graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusts in it, to make dumb idols? ¹⁹ Woe to him that says to the wood, 'Awake'; to the dumb stone, 'Arise, it shall teach!' Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it. ²⁰ But the LORD is in His holy temple: Let all the earth keep silence before Him."

²⁴ And David sat between the two gates: And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold a man running alone.

¹⁷ And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a company. And Joram said, "Take a horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, "Is it peace?

⁹ And the children of Israel did secretly those things that were not right against the LORD their God, and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fenced city.

⁵ I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me. ⁶ Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered forever from my judge.

³⁵ Oh that one would hear me! Behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that my adversary had written a book.

³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

³ You shall hear my voice in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and will look up.

¹⁶ When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; ¹⁷ until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

⁸ I will hear what God the LORD will speak: For He will speak peace to His people, and to His saints: But let them not turn again to folly.

⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield.

⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights:

¹¹ The burden of Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, "Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?" ¹² The watchman said, "The morning comes, and also the night: If all of you will inquire, inquire all of you: Return, come."

⁶ I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem, they shall never hold their peace day nor night: You who make mention of the LORD, do not keep silent,

¹ Righteous are You, O LORD, when I plead with You: Yet let me talk with You about your judgments: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all happy who deal very treacherously?

¹² Are You not from everlasting, O LORD my God, my Holy One? We shall not die. O LORD, You have ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, You have established them for correction. ¹³ You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on iniquity: Why do You look upon those that deal treacherously, and hold Your tongue when the wicked devours the man that is more righteous than he? ¹⁴ And make men as the fish of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them? ¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their dragnet; because by them their portion is fat, and their meat plenteous. ¹⁷ Shall they therefore empty their net, and not spare to continually slay the nations?

³ Since you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which is not weak toward you, but is mighty in you.

¹⁶ to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the heathen; I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood:

⁸ And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.

¹⁹ Now therefore write you this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: Put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.

²² Moses therefore wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel.

¹ Moreover the LORD said to me, "Take a great scroll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Mahershalalhashbaz."

⁸ Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and note it in a book, that it may be for the time to come forever and ever:

² "Take a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day. ³ It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin." ⁴ Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: And Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which He had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

²⁷ Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, ²⁸ "Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. ²⁹ And you shall say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, 'Thus says the LORD; "You have burned this scroll, saying, 'Why have you written in it, saying, "The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause man and beast to cease from there?" ' " ³⁰ Therefore thus says the LORD of Jehoiakim king of Judah; "He shall have none to sit on the throne of David: And his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost. ³¹ And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they did not listen." ' " ³² Then Jeremiah took another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote in it from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: And there were added to them besides many like words.

⁴ But you, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

²⁸ And when she had said this, she went her way, and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, "The Master has come, and calls for you." ²⁹ As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came to Him.

¹⁹ Yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

¹² Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

¹⁸ I am He that lives, and was dead; and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. ¹⁹ Write the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;

¹³ Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from this time forward' ": "Yes", says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."

⁹ And he said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those which are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb.' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."

⁵ And He that sat upon the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write: For these words are true and faithful." ⁶ And He said to me, "It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him that is thirsty. ⁷ He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son. ⁸ But the fearful, unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: Which is the second death."

⁴¹ And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the same day it came to pass, that all the armies of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down to him: And he said, "Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

¹⁴ Wait on the LORD: Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: Wait, I say, "on the LORD.

¹³ You shall arise, and have mercy upon Zion: For the time to favor her, yes, the set time has come,

⁵ I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope. ⁶ My soul waits for the Lord more than those that watch for the morning: I say, "more than those that watch for the morning.

¹⁸ And therefore the LORD will wait, that He may be gracious to you, and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you: For the LORD is a God of judgment: Blessed are all those that wait for Him.

¹² And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation', said the LORD, 'for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. ¹³ And I will bring on that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. ¹⁴ For many nations and great kings shall reduce them to subjection also: And I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.' "

⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land comes: And then many nations and great kings shall enservant him.

²⁵ The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

²⁵ For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall not be prolonged any longer: For in your days, O rebellious house, I will say the word, and will perform it", said the Lord GOD.

¹⁷ So he came near where I stood: And when he came, I was afraid, and fell upon my face: But he said to me, "Understand, O son of man: For at the time of the end shall be the vision."

¹⁹ And he said, "Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the last end time of the indignation: For at the time appointed the end shall be.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy.

¹⁴ Now I have come to make you understand what shall befall your people in the latter days, for the vision is yet for many days."

²⁷ And both these kings' hearts shall be to do mischief, and they shall speak lies to each other at one table; but it shall not prosper: For the end shall still be at the time appointed.

³⁵ And some of them of understanding shall fall, to purify them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: Because it is yet for an appointed time.

⁷ Therefore I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation: My God will hear me.

²⁵ And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and this same man was just and devout, waiting for the Consolation of Israel: And the Holy Spirit was upon him.

⁷ And shall not God avenge His own elect, who cry day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? ⁸ I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, shall He find faith on the earth?"

⁷ And He said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father has put under His own power.

²⁶ and He has made from one blood all nations of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the pre-appointed times, and the bounds of their habitation;

² but is under tutors and stewards until the time appointed by the father.

⁶ And now you know what withholds, that he might be revealed in his time. ⁷ For the mystery of iniquity is already at work: Only He who now holds back will impede, until He be taken out of the way. ⁸ And then that Wicked one shall be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming:

³⁶ For you have need of patience, so that after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise. ³⁷ For "Yet a little while, and He that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receives the early and latter rain. ⁸ You also be patient; establish your hearts: For the coming of the Lord draws near.

³ And through covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words: Whose judgment will now not linger for a long time, and their damnation does not slumber.

¹¹ Cast abroad the rage of your wrath: And behold everyone that is proud, and abase him. ¹² Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, "Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty?"

³⁷ Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: And those who walk in pride He is able to abase.

²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was disposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him: ²¹ And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys: They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that the Most High God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that He appoints over it whomever He will. ²² And you his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this; ²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified:

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: For everyone who exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted."

³⁶ He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: And he that does not believe the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him."

¹⁷ For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith: As it is written, "The just shall live by faith."

¹⁶ knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: For by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

¹¹ But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident: For, "The just shall live by faith." ¹² And the law is not of faith: But, "The man who does them shall live in them."

⁴ who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself as though he is God.

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith: But if any man draws back, My soul shall have no pleasure in him."

⁵ Likewise you younger ones, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject to one another, and be clothed with humility: For "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

¹⁰ He that believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself: He that does not believe God has made Him a liar; because he does not believe the record that God gave of His Son. ¹¹ And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. ¹² He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

¹⁰ You have indeed smitten Edom, and your heart has lifted you up: Glory of this, and tarry at home: For why should you meddle to your hurt, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly: But the proud He knows afar off.

¹ Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: And whoever is deceived by it is not wise.

²⁹ Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has babbling? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? ³⁰ Those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine. ³¹ Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives his color in the cup, when it moves itself aright. ³² At the last it bites like a serpent, and stings like an adder. ³³ Your eyes shall behold strange women, and your heart shall utter perverse things.

²⁰ Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

¹³ There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up. ¹⁴ There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. ¹⁵ The horse-leach has two daughters, crying, 'Give, give.' There are three things that are never satisfied, yes, four things do not say, 'It is enough': ¹⁶ The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire are they which do not say, 'It is enough.'

⁴ It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: ⁵ Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

¹⁰ He that loves silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loves abundance with increase: This also is vanity.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day. ¹² For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be on everyone that is proud and lofty, and on everyone that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low:

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: And the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

⁸ Woe to those that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the land!

¹¹ Woe to those that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; who continue until night, till wine inflames them! ¹² And the harp, and the viol, the tambourine, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: But they do not regard the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of His hands.

²² Woe to those that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: ²³ Who justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

⁷ However, he does not mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off not a few nations. ⁸ For he said, "Are not my princes altogether kings?" ⁹ Is not Calno as Carchemish? Is not Hamath as Arpad? Is not Samaria as Damascus? ¹⁰ As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; ¹¹ shall I not, as I have done to Samaria and her idols, do so to Jerusalem and her idols? ¹² Therefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord has performed His whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. ¹³ For he said, "By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: And I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:

¹⁶ Those that see you shall narrowly look on you, and consider you, saying, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; ¹⁷ that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities of it; who did not open the house of his prisoners?"

⁶ We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: Even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his wrath: But his lies shall not be so.

⁹ behold, I will send and take all the families of the north', said the LORD, 'and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

¹⁷ Then I took the cup at the LORD's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom the LORD had sent me: ¹⁸ To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and her kings, and her princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse; as it is this day; ¹⁹ pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; ²⁰ and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod, ²¹ edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon, ²² and all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea, ²³ dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners, ²⁴ and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert, ²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes, ²⁶ and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the face of the earth: And the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. ²⁷ "Therefore you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Drink all of you, and be drunken, and spew, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you." ' ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall say to them, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts; "You shall certainly drink. ²⁹ For lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: For I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth", said the LORD of hosts.'

²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

³⁹ In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the LORD.

¹ Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. ² Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink from them. ³ Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives and his concubines, drank from them. ⁴ They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

⁹ What do all you imagine against the LORD? He will make an utter end: Affliction shall not rise up the second time. ¹⁰ For while they are entwined together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as fully dried stubble.

⁷ And he took up his parable, and said, "Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, "Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.

¹⁸ And he took up his parable, and said, "Rise up, Balak, and hear; listen to me, you son of Zippor:

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. ¹⁶ He shall suck the poison of asps: The viper's tongue shall slay him. ¹⁷ He shall not see the rivers, the floods, the brooks of honey and butter. ¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: According to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice in it. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. ²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: Terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath. ²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

⁶ For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing. ⁷ You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry. ⁸ But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honorable man dwelled in it. ⁹ You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you, and sudden fear troubles you;

³ LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph?

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

⁴ that you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, "How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city ceased!" ⁵ The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. ⁶ He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders. ⁷ The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: They break forth into singing. ⁸ Yes, the fir trees rejoice at you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, "Since you are laid down, no woodcutter has come up against us." ⁹ Hell from beneath is moved for you to meet you at your coming: It stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. ¹⁰ They shall all speak and say to you, "Have you also become weak as us? Have you become like us?" ¹¹ Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of your viols: The worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you. ¹² How you have fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! ¹³ For you have said in your heart, "I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in uttermost sides of the north: ¹⁴ I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High." ¹⁵ Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. ¹⁶ Those that see you shall narrowly look on you, and consider you, saying, "Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; ¹⁷ that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities of it; who did not open the house of his prisoners?" ¹⁸ All the kings of the nations, even all of them, sleep in glory, every one in his own house. ¹⁹ But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable branch, and as the clothing of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.

²⁰ He feeds on ashes: A deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen to Me diligently, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

²² and a curse shall be taken up by all the captivity of Judah who are in Babylon concerning them, saying, "The LORD make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire";

¹³ Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicates, he has cast me out. ³⁵ The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon", shall the inhabitant of Zion say; "and my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea", shall Jerusalem say.

²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with those who help him: 'they have gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.'

⁴ In that day one shall take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, 'We are utterly pillaged: He has changed the portion of my people: How He has removed it from me! Turning away He has divided our fields.' "

⁹ They shall all come for violence: Their faces shall sup up as the east wind, and they shall gather the captivity as the sand. ¹⁰ And they shall scoff at the kings, and the princes shall be a scorn to them: They shall deride every stronghold; for they shall heap dust, and take it.

¹⁵ They take all of them up with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: Therefore they rejoice and are glad.

¹³ Behold, is it not of the LORD of hosts that the people shall labor in the very fire, and the people shall weary themselves in quest of much vanity?

²⁰ But God said to him, 'You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: Then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?'

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: It means, that even those that have wives be as though they had none; ³⁰ and those that weep, as though they did not weep; and those that rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those that buy, as though they did not possess; ³¹ and those that use this world, as not abusing it: For the fashion of this world passes away.

¹ Go now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver are cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as if it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who have harvested your fields, which you partially kept back by fraud, cries out: And the cries of those which have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: Therefore be sober, and watchful with prayer.

¹ He, that often being reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

⁸ He that digs a pit shall fall into it; and whoever breaks a hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

¹ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. ² Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness. ⁴ The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land.

¹⁶ Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. ¹⁷ Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. ¹⁸ Their bows shall also dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.

² A grievous vision is declared to me; the treacherous dealer deals treacherously, and the spoiler spoils. Go up, O Elam: Besiege, O Media; I have made all her sighing to cease. ³ Therefore my loins are filled with pain: Pangs have taken hold of me, as the pangs of a woman that travails: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it. ⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: The night of my pleasure He has turned into fear to me. ⁵ Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: Arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. ⁶ For thus the LORD has said to me, "Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees." ⁷ And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with much heed: ⁸ And he cried, "A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my post whole nights: ⁹ And behold, here comes a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, "Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods He has broken to the ground."

²⁵ I have raised one up from the north, and he shall come: From the rising of the sun shall he call on My name: And he shall come on princes as on mortar, and as the potter treads clay.

¹ Thus says the LORD to His anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two-leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; ² I will go before you, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut apart the bars of iron: ³ And I will give you the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.

¹¹ Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country: Yes, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

¹¹ Therefore evil shall come on you; you shall not know from where it rises: And mischief shall fall upon you; you shall not be able to put it off: And desolation shall come on you suddenly, which you shall not know.

¹⁴ All you, assemble yourselves, and hear; who among them has declared these things? The LORD has loved him: He will do His pleasure on Babylon, and His arm shall be on the Chaldeans. ¹⁵ I, even I, have spoken; yes, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.

¹⁷ "For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you", said the LORD.

²¹ Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: Waste and utterly destroy after them", said the LORD, "and do according to all that I have commanded you. ²² A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. ²³ How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! ²⁴ I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, O Babylon, and you were not aware: You are found, and also caught, because you have strived against the LORD. ²⁵ The LORD has opened His armory, and has brought forth the weapons of His indignation: For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. ²⁶ Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: Cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: Let nothing be left of her. ²⁷ Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation. ²⁸ The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple. ²⁹ Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. ³⁰ Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day", said the LORD. ³¹ "Behold, I am against you, O you most proud", said the Lord GOD of hosts: "for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. ³² And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him."

¹¹ Make bright the arrows; gather the shields: The LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes: For His device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple.

²⁷ Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz against her; appoint a captain against her; cause the horses to come up like the rough locusts. ²⁸ Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, its captains, and all its rulers, and all the land of his dominion.

⁵⁷ And I will make her princes drunk, and her wise men, her captains, and her rulers, and her mighty men: And they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake", said the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts.

²⁵ And this is the writing that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. ²⁶ This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it. ²⁷ TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting. ²⁸ PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." ²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put a chain of gold around his neck, and made a proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. ³⁰ During that night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain. ³¹ And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

³ For when they shall say, "Peace and safety"; then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

⁸ O daughter of Babylon, who are to be destroyed; he shall be happy who recompenses you as you have bestowed upon us.

¹ Woe to you who plunder, and you were not plundered; and deal treacherously, and they did not deal treacherously with you! When you cease to plunder, you shall be plundered; and when you make an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with you.

⁴ And Your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpillar: As the running to and fro of locusts He shall run on them.

⁶ I was angry with My people, I have polluted My inheritance, and given them into your hand: You showed them no mercy; upon the elderly you have laid your yoke very heavily.

¹⁶ Therefore all they who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they who spoil you shall be a spoil, and all who prey upon you I will make a prey.

¹⁰ And Chaldea shall be a spoil: All that spoil her shall be satisfied", said the LORD. ¹¹ "Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage, because you have grown fat like a heifer in the grass, and bellow like bulls;

¹⁷ Israel is as scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: First the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones." ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

²⁸ The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple.

³³ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: And all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. ³⁴ Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁷ A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: A sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed.

⁸ Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: Howl for her; take balm for her pain, it may be she be healed.

¹³ O you who dwell upon many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, and the measure of your covetousness.

²⁴ And I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight", said the LORD.

⁴⁴ And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up: And the nations shall not flow together to him any more: Yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

⁴⁸ Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for Babylon: For the spoilers shall come to her from the north", said the LORD.

⁵⁵ Because the LORD has spoiled Babylon, and destroyed the great voice out of her; when her waves roar like great waters, the noise of their voice is uttered: ⁵⁶ Because the spoiler has come upon her, even on Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken: For the LORD God of recompenses shall surely repay.

¹¹ Now also many nations are gathered against you, that say, "Let her be defiled, and let our eye look upon Zion." ¹² But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD, neither do they understand His counsel: For He shall gather them as the sheaves into the floor. ¹³ "Arise and thresh, O daughter of Zion: For I will make your horn iron, and I will make your hoofs brass: And you shall beat in pieces many people: And I will consecrate their gain to the LORD, and their substance to the Lord of the whole earth."

¹⁰ You have consulted shame to establish your house by cutting off many people, and have sinned against your soul.

¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall cover you, and the spoil of beasts, which made them afraid, because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.

¹⁵ And I am very sorely displeased with the heathen that are at ease: For I was only a little displeased, and they helped advance the affliction."

⁸ For thus says the LORD of hosts; "After the glory, He has sent me to the nations which plundered you: For he that touches you touches the apple of His eye. ⁹ For behold, I will shake My hand upon them, and they shall be a pillage to their servants: And you all shall know that the LORD of hosts has sent me.

² "Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling to all the people compassed around, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. ³ And in that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: All that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. ⁴ In that day", says the LORD, "I will smite every horse with astonishment, and his rider with madness: And I will open My eyes upon the house of Judah, and will smite every horse of the people with blindness.

¹² And this shall be the plague with which the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

¹⁰ And they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those that dwell on the earth?"

²⁰ Rejoice over her, you heaven, and you holy apostles and prophets; for God has avenged you on her." ²¹ And a mighty angel took up a stone like a large millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, "Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. ²² And the voice of harpists, musicians, pipers, and trumpeters shall not be heard any more at all in you; and no craftsman, of whatever craft he is, shall be found anymore in you; and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard any more at all in you; ²³ and the light of a candle shall not shine any more at all in you; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall not be heard any more at all in you: For your merchants were the great men of the earth; for by your sorceries all nations were deceived. ²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth."

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan river, that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you come to Zoar. ¹¹ Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan river; and Lot journeyed east: And they separated themselves from each other. ¹² Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD, exceedingly so.

²⁶ But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. ²⁷ And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: ²⁸ And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelled. ³⁰ And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelled in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: And he dwelled in a cave, he and his two daughters. ³¹ And the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in to us according to the manner of all the earth: ³² Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³³ And they made their father drink wine that night: And the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁴ And it came to pass on the next day, that the firstborn said to the younger, "Behold, I lay last night with my father: Let us make him drink wine this night also; and you go in, and lie with him, that we may preserve the seed of our father." ³⁵ And they made their father drink wine that night also: And the younger arose, and lay with him; and he did not perceive when she lay down, nor when she arose. ³⁶ Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father. ³⁷ And the firstborn bore a son, and called his name Moab: The same is the father of the Moabites to this day. ³⁸ And the younger, she also bore a son, and called his name Benammi: The same is the father of the children of Ammon to this day.

²⁵ The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire: You shall not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it to you, lest you be snared in it: For it is an abomination to the LORD your God. ²⁶ Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it: But you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

²¹ When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and behold, they are hid in the earth in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it. ²² So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it. ²³ And they took them out of the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua, and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the LORD. ²⁴ And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his donkeys, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: And they brought them to the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? The LORD shall trouble you this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. ²⁶ And they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. So the LORD turned from the fierceness of his anger. Why the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, to this day.

² And Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, "Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near to my house: And I will give you for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to you, I will give you the worth of it in money. ³ And Naboth said to Ahab, "The LORD forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you. ⁴ And Ahab came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him: For he had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.

¹⁹ And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, Have you killed, and also taken possession? And you shall speak to him, saying, "Thus says the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your blood, even yours. ²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found you: Because you have sold yourself to work evil in the sight of the LORD. ²¹ Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will take away your posterity, and will cut off from Ahab him that urinates against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, ²² and will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. ²³ And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, "The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that dies of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: But, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him. ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well? ²² And he said, "All is well. My master has sent me, saying, "Behold, even now there be come to me from Mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: Give them, I implore you, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments. ²³ And Naaman said, "Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them on two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: And he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, "From where come you, Gehazi? And he said, "Your servant went no where. ²⁶ And he said to him, "Went not my heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall stick to you, and to your seed forever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his meat be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: Every hand of the wicked shall come on him. ²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath on him, and shall rain it on him while he is eating. ²⁴ He shall flee from the iron weapon, and the bow of steel shall strike him through. ²⁵ It is drawn, and comes out of the body; yes, the glittering sword comes out of his gall: Terrors are on him. ²⁶ All darkness shall be hid in his secret places: A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. ²⁷ The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. ²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

³ For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom the LORD abhors. ⁴ The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. ⁵ His ways are always grievous; Your judgments are far above out of his sight: As for all his enemies, he puffs at them. ⁶ He has said in his heart, "I shall not be moved: For I shall never be in adversity."

¹¹ Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

⁷ Lo, this is the man that did not make God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

¹¹ The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit. ¹² Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

¹⁵ Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with death, and with hell we are in agreement; when the overflowing whip shall pass through, it shall not come to us: For we have made lies our refuge, and we have hid ourselves under falsehood:"

⁷ And you said, 'I shall be a lady forever': So that you did not take these things to your heart, neither did remember the latter end of it. ⁸ Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, that dwell carelessly, that say in your heart, 'I am, and none other besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children': ⁹ But these two things shall come to you in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: They shall come on you in their perfection for the multitude of your sorceries, and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

¹³ Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; who uses his neighbor's service without wages, and gives him nothing for his work; ¹⁴ who said, 'I will build myself a wide house and large chambers, and cuts himself out windows; and it is paneled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.' ¹⁵ Shall you reign, because you close yourself in cedar? Did not your father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: Was not this known to me?" said the LORD. ¹⁷ But your eyes and your heart are not but for your covetousness, and to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it. ¹⁸ Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; "They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah my brother! Or, Ah sister!' They shall not lament for him, saying, 'Ah lord! Or, Ah his glory!' ¹⁹ He shall be buried with the burial of a donkey, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Your terribleness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: Though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there", said the LORD.

⁴ Though you exalt yourself as the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, I will bring you down from there", says the LORD.

¹ Then I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold a flying roll. ² And he said to me, "What do you see?" And I answered, "I see a flying roll; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits."Using Hebrew cubits (of the scriptures), this L x W equates to approximately 36.5' x 18.2', respectively; or 11.12m x 5.56m; per Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary and Easton's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, Appendix VI. ³ Then he said to me, "This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: For everyone that steals shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and everyone that swears shall be cut off as on that side according to it." ⁴ "I will bring it forth", says the LORD of hosts, "and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by My name: And it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones."

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the contrariety of Korah.

³⁸ The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: For they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: And they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.

²³ Then king Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah have not spoken this word against his own life.

²⁶ surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons", says the LORD; and I will requite you in this plat", says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the plat of ground, according to the word of the LORD.

⁷ And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they lurk privately for their own lives.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: All those that hate me love death."

²⁰ You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: The seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. ²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. ²² For I will rise up against them", says the LORD of hosts, and cut off the name from Babylon, and remnant, and son, and nephew", says the LORD.

¹¹ You shall conceive chaff, you shall bring forth stubble: Your breath shall devour you as fire.

³⁰ Thus says the LORD, 'Write down this man as childless, a man who shall not prosper in his days: For no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting on the throne of David, and ruling anymore in Judah.' "

¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear the LORD, and sought the LORD, and the LORD relented of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls."

³¹ And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they did not listen." ' "

¹⁴ And the LORD has given a commandment concerning you, that, "Your name will not be sown any more: I will cut off the graven image and the molten image out of the house of your gods: I will make your grave; for you are vile."

¹⁶ You are filled with shame for glory: Drink also, and let your foreskin be uncovered: The cup of the LORD's right hand shall be turned toward you, and shameful spewing shall be on your glory.

²⁵ Then all the people answered, and said, "His blood be on us, and on our children."

¹⁰ And He said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood cries to me from the ground.

²⁷ And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke to us: It shall be therefore a witness to you, lest you deny your God.

²⁶ And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the LORD, that rises up and builds this city Jericho: He shall lay its foundation in his firstborn, and in his youngest son he shall set up the gates of it."

³⁴ In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: He laid its foundation in Abiram his firstborn, and set up its gates in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Joshua the son of Nun.

¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.

¹ Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and robbery; the prey does not depart;

⁴⁷ Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What shall we do? For this Man does many miracles. ⁴⁸ If we let Him alone after that, all men will believe upon Him: And the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation." ⁴⁹ And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said to them, "You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation should not perish."

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: And when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

⁶ And the LORD said, "Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and this is what they begin to do: And now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down, and in that place confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth: And they ceased to build the city. ⁹ Therefore the name of it is called Babel; because the LORD confounded the language of all the earth there: And from that place the LORD scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

³¹ And one told David, saying, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, "O LORD, I implore you, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness: And the counsel of the froward is carried headlong. ¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: Surely they are disquieted in vain: He heaps up riches, and does not know who shall gather them.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

⁵ The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came. ⁶ Everyone helped his neighbor; and everyone said to his brother, "Be of good courage." ⁷ So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he who smoothes with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, "It is ready for the soldering": And he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved. ⁸ "But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham My friend.

¹¹ Behold, all you that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: Walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that you have kindled. This you shall have from My hand; you shall lie down in sorrow."

⁵⁸ Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the people shall labor in vain, and the folk in the fire, and they shall be weary."

⁶⁴ And you shall say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring on her: And they shall be weary.' " Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁴ Yet when Edom says, "We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places"; thus says the LORD of hosts, "They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, 'The border of wickedness', and, 'The people against whom the LORD has indignation forever.'

²⁷ All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD: And all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before You.

⁹ All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O LORD; and shall glorify Your name.

¹ A Psalm. ¹³ And when David had called him, he ate and drink before him; and he made him drunk: And at sunset he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but not went down to his house.

²⁶ Then said Absalom, If not, I implore you, let my brother Amnon go with us. ¹⁵ For thus says the LORD God of Israel to me; "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.

⁷ Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, who made all the earth drunk: The nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

⁵ In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.

² With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication."

³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are made rich through the abundance of her delicacies."

⁸ For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and He pours out of the same: But its dregs, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory: But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

⁴ so shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptian's prisoners, and the Ethiopian's captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

⁷ But they have also erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up by wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. ⁸ For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

³ Your nakedness shall be uncovered, yes, your shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet you as a man.

²⁶ And I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: And all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Savior and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacob."

²¹ Therefore now hear this, you afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine: ²² Thus said your Lord the LORD, and your God that pleads the cause of His people, "Behold, I have taken out of your hand the cup of trembling, even the dregs of the cup of My fury; you shall no more drink it again: ²³ But I will put it into the hand of those who afflict you; who have said to your soul, 'Bow down, that we may go over': And you have laid your body as the ground, and as the street, to those who went over."

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who dwell in the land of Uz; the cup shall also pass through to you: You shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked.

⁷ As they were increased, to that degree they sinned against Me: Therefore I will change their glory into shame.

⁵ "Behold, I am against you", says the LORD of hosts; "and I will expose your skirts upon your face, and I will show the nations your nakedness, and the kingdoms your shame. ⁶ And I will cast abominable filth upon you, and make you vile, and will set you as a gazingstock.

¹⁹ Whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her two-fold more according to her works: With the cup which she has filled, pour out to her double.

²³ But you, O God, shall bring them down into the pit of destruction: Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in You.

¹⁷ A man that does violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man hold him up.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has swallowed me up like a dragon, he has filled his belly with my delicates, he has cast me out. ³⁵ The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon", shall the inhabitant of Zion say; "and my blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea", shall Jerusalem say. ³⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; "Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her springs dry. ³⁷ And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant.

⁸ Because you have spoiled many nations, all the remnant of the people shall spoil you; because of men's blood, and for the violence of the land, of the city, and of all that dwell in it.

¹ Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars.

⁴ Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ⁵ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ⁶ they have ears, but they do not hear: They have noses, but they do not smell: ⁷ They have hands, but they do not handle: They have feet, but they do not walk: Neither do they speak through their throat. ⁸ Those who make them are similar to them; so is everyone that trusts in them.

¹⁵ The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. ¹⁶ They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see; ¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths. ¹⁸ Those that make them are like them: So is everyone that trusts in them.

³¹ And the strong shall be as wick, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

³⁸ And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

¹⁷ They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, who trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, "you are our gods."

⁹ Those who make a graven image, all of them are vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they do not see, nor know; that they may be ashamed. ¹⁰ Who has formed a god, or cast a graven image that is profitable for nothing?

¹⁴ He hews himself down cedars, and takes the cypress and the oak, which he strengthens for himself among the trees of the forest: He plants an ash, and the rain does nourish it. ¹⁵ Then it shall be for a man to burn: For he will take of it, and warm himself; yes, he kindles it, and bakes bread; yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a graven image, and falls down to it. ¹⁶ He burns part of it in the fire; with part of it he eats flesh; he roasts roast, and is satisfied: Yes, he warms himself, and said, "Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: ¹⁷ And the residue of it he makes into a god, even his graven image: He falls down to it, and worships it, and prays to it, and said, "Deliver me; for you are my god." ¹⁸ They have not known nor understood: For He has shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. ¹⁹ And none considers in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned part of it in the fire; yes, also I have baked bread on the coals of it; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: And I shall make the residue of it an abomination? Shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?" ²⁰ He feeds on ashes: A deceived heart has turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, "Is there not a lie in my right hand?"

¹⁶ They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: They who are makers of idols shall go into confusion together.

²⁰ Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you who have escaped of the nations: They have no knowledge who set up the wood of their graven image, and pray to a god that cannot save.

¹ Bel bows down, Nebo stoops, their idols were on the beasts, and on the domestic beasts: Your carriages were heavy laden; they are a burden to the weary beast. ² They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but have themselves gone into captivity.

⁶ They lavish gold out of the bag, and weigh silver in the balance, and hire a goldsmith; and he makes it a god: They fall down, yes, they worship. ⁷ They bear him on the shoulder, they carry him, and set him in his place, and he stands; from his place he shall not move: Yes, one shall cry to him, yet he cannot answer, nor save him out of his trouble. ⁸ Remember this, and show yourselves men: Bring it to mind again, O you transgressors.

²⁷ Saying to a stock, 'You are my father'; and to a stone, 'You have brought me forth': For they have turned their back to me, and not their face: But in the time of their trouble they will say, 'Arise, and save us.' ²⁸ But where are your gods that you have made yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble: For according to the number of your cities are your gods, O Judah.

³ For the customs of the people are vain: For one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax. ⁴ They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it does not move. ⁵ They are upright like the palm tree, but do not speak: They must be carried, because they cannot go by themselves. Do not be afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.

⁸ But they are altogether brutish and foolish: The wooden idol is a doctrine of vanities.

¹⁴ Every man is brutish in His knowledge: Every founder is confounded by the graven image: For His molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. ¹⁵ They are vanity, and the work of errors: In the time of their visitation they shall perish.

² "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.'

⁸ Those that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

² For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: Therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd.

²³ and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made in likeness to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. ²⁴ Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: ²⁵ Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

²¹ What fruit did you have then in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

² You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, even as you were led.

⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in those that perish; because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this reason God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

¹ Now the Spirit expressly speaks, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; ² speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

¹¹ Then I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the power of the first beast before him, and causes the earth and those that dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. ¹³ And he does great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, ¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to those who dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and lived. ¹⁵ And he had power to give life to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived those that had received the mark of the beast, and those that worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

²⁶ And they took the bull which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, "O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped on the altar which was made. ²⁷ And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, "Cry aloud: For he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleeps, and must be awaked. ²⁸ And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out on them. ²⁹ And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

⁷ All those who serve graven images are confounded, that boast themselves of idols: Worship Him, all you gods.

¹⁷ they have ears, but they do not hear; neither is there any breath in their mouths.

¹⁹ The workman melts a graven image, and the goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains.

¹⁷ And the residue of it he makes into a god, even his graven image: He falls down to it, and worships it, and prays to it, and said, "Deliver me; for you are my god."

⁹ Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: Blue and purple is their clothing: They are all the work of cunning men.

⁴⁷ Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will do judgment on the graven images of Babylon: And her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

⁷ Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, sackbut trumpet, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

¹⁸ But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

²⁹ Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: Because there is no other God that can deliver in this manner."

²³ but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you, and your lords, your wives, and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor know: And the God in Whose hand is your breath, and Whose are all your ways, you have not glorified:

⁵ Then the mariners were afraid, and every man cried out to his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah had gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

²⁹ In as much as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is similar to gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colors, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication:

⁴ The LORD is in His holy temple, the LORD's throne is in heaven: His eyes behold and His eyelids examine the children of men.

¹⁰ Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

⁸ You caused judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still, ⁹ when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

³ But our God is in the heavens: He has done whatever He has pleased.

¹³ For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. ¹⁴ "This is My rest forever: Here I will dwell; for I have desired it.

¹ In the year that king Uzziah died I also saw the LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and robe train filled the temple.

¹ Thus says the LORD, "The heaven is My throne, and the earth is My footstool: Where is the house that you build to Me? And where is the place of My rest?

⁶ A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that renders recompense to His enemies.

⁴ Then I said, 'I am cast out of Your sight; yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.'

⁷ When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: And my prayer came in to You, into Your holy temple.

² Hear, all you people; hearken, O earth, and all that is in it: And let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the LORD from His holy temple.

⁷ Hold your peace at the presence of the Lord GOD: For the day of the LORD is at hand: For the LORD has prepared a sacrifice, he has bid his guests.bid: In Hebrew, sanctified

¹³ Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: For He is raised up out of His holy habitation."

²¹ in whom all the building, being fitly framed together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord: ²² In whom you also are built together as a habitation of God through the Spirit.
