Genesis 11 Cross References - TKJU

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelled there. 3 And they said to one another, "Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and viscous mud for mortar. 4 And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. 6 And the LORD said, "Behold, the people are one, and they all have one language; and this is what they begin to do: And now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Come, let us go down, and in that place confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech." 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from there upon the face of all the earth: And they ceased to build the city. 9 Therefore the name of it is called Babel; because the LORD confounded the language of all the earth there: And from that place the LORD scattered them abroad upon the face of all the earth. 10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: 11 And after Shem begat Arphaxad, he lived five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begat Salah: 13 And after Arphaxad begat Salah, he lived four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 14 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: 15 And after Salah begat Eber, he lived four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters. 16 And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begat Peleg: 17 And after Eber begat Peleg, he lived four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters. 18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: 19 And after Peleg begat Reu, he lived two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters. 20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begat Serug: 21 And after Reu begat Serug, he lived two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters. 22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: 23 And after Serug begat Nahor, he lived two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters. 24 And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begat Terah: 25 And after Nahor begat Terah, he lived a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters. 26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 And Abram and Nahor took themselves wives: The name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with him from Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came to Haran, and dwelled there. 32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: And Terah died in Haran.

" 12 So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw. 13 And the taskmasters hurried them, saying, "Fulfill your assigned work, your daily tasks, like when there was straw." 14 And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as you did before?" 15 Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, "Why do you deal in this manner with your servants? 16 There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, 'Make brick': And behold, your servants are beaten; but the fault is in your own people. 17 But he said, "You are idle, you are idle: Therefore you say, 'Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD.' 18 Go now therefore, and work; for there shall be no straw given to you, yet you shall deliver the set number of bricks."

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were Jews dwelling in Jerusalem, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, "Behold, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how come we hear every man in our own tongue, in which we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God."

1 Corinthians 14:2-11

2 For he that speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak to men, but to God: For no man understands him; nevertheless in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 3 But he that prophesies speaks edification, exhortation, and comfort to men. 4 He that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he that prophesies edifies the church. 5 I would like that you all spoke with tongues, but far more that you prophesied: For greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the church may receive edification. 6 Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? 7 And even things without life bringing forth sound, whether pipe or harp, unless they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? 8 For if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself for the battle? 9 So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? For you shall speak into the air. 10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. 11 Therefore, if I do not know the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaks a barbarian, and he who speaks shall be a barbarian to me.

Isaiah 13:1-14

1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw. 2 Lift up a banner on the high mountain, exalt the voice to them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. 3 I have commanded My sanctified ones, I have also called My mighty ones for My anger, even them that rejoice in My highness. 4 The noise of a multitude in the mountains, as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: The LORD of hosts musters the host of the battle. 5 They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of His indignation, to destroy the whole land. 6 Howl all of you; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. 7 Therefore all hands shall be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: 8 And they shall be afraid: Pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: They shall be amazed at one another; their faces shall be as flames. 9 Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: And He shall destroy its sinners out of it. 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations shall not give light: The sun shall be darkened in His going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. 11 And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. 12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; a man even more than the golden wedge of Ophir. 13 Therefore I will shake heaven, and the earth shall move out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of His fierce anger. 14 And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man takes shepherds: Every man shall turn to his own people, and everyone flee into his own land.

Jeremiah 50:1-46

1 The word that the LORD spoke against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet. 2 "Declare among the nations, and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and do not conceal: Say, 'Babylon is taken, Bel is confounded, Merodach is broken in pieces; her idols are confounded, her images are broken in pieces.' 3 For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell in it: They shall move, they shall depart, both man and beast. 4 In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together, going and weeping: They shall go, and seek the LORD their God. 5 They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces towards it, saying, 'Come, and let us join ourselves to the LORD in a perpetual covenant that shall not be forgotten.' 6 My people have been lost sheep: Their shepherds have caused them to go astray, they have turned them away upon the mountains: They have gone from mountain to hill, they have forgotten their resting place. 7 All who found them have devoured them: And their adversaries said, 'We do not offend, because they have sinned against the LORD, the habitation of justice, even the LORD, the hope of their fathers.' 8 Remove out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the he-goats before the flocks. 9 For lo, I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: And they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: Their arrows shall be as of a mighty expert man; none shall return in vain. 10 And Chaldea shall be a spoil: All that spoil her shall be satisfied", said the LORD. 11 "Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, O you destroyers of My heritage, because you have grown fat like a heifer in the grass, and bellow like bulls; 12 your mother shall be greatly confounded; she who bore you shall be ashamed: Behold, the last of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be wholly desolate: Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. 14 Put yourselves in array against Babylon on every side: All you who bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: For she has sinned against the LORD. 15 Shout against her from every side: She has given her hand: Her foundations have fallen, her walls are thrown down: For it is the vengeance of the LORD: Take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest: For fear of the oppressing sword everyone shall turn to his people, and everyone shall flee to his own land. 17 Israel is as scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: First the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones." 18 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; "Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. 19 And I will bring Israel to his habitation again, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied upon Mount Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In those days, and at that time", said the LORD, "the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: For I will pardon them whom I preserve. 21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: Waste and utterly destroy after them", said the LORD, "and do according to all that I have commanded you. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. 23 How the hammer of the whole earth is cut asunder and broken! How Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! 24 I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, O Babylon, and you were not aware: You are found, and also caught, because you have strived against the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened His armory, and has brought forth the weapons of His indignation: For this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the utmost border, open her storehouses: Cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly: Let nothing be left of her. 27 Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of His temple. 29 Call together the archers against Babylon: All you who bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: Recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her: For she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day", said the LORD. 31 "Behold, I am against you, O you most proud", said the Lord GOD of hosts: "for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. 32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him." 33 Thus says the LORD of hosts; "The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: And all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is His name: He shall thoroughly plead their cause, that He may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans", said the LORD, "and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. 36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall become fools: A sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. 37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: A sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. 38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: For it is the land of graven images, and they are insane with their idols. 39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell in it: And it shall no longer be inhabited forever; neither shall it be dwelled in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities", said the LORD; "so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell in it. 41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the borders of the earth. 42 They shall hold the bow and the lance: They are cruel, and will not show mercy: Their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride on horses, everyone put in array like a man to the battle, against you O daughter of Babylon. 43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feeble: Anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in travail. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan to the habitation of the strong: But I will make them suddenly run away from her: And who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? For who is like Me? And who will appoint Me the time? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me?" 45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that He has taken against Babylon; and His purposes, that He has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: Surely He shall make their habitation desolate with them. 46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations.

Separate yourself, I implore you, from me: If you will take the left hand side, then I will go to the right; or if you depart to the right hand side, then I will go to the left." 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan river, that it was well watered everywhere, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as you come to Zoar. 11 Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan river; and Lot journeyed east: And they separated themselves from each other.

Genesis 19:1-29

1 And there came two angels to Sodom at sunset; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: And Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; 2 and he said, "Behold now, my lords, turn in, I implore you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and you shall rise up early, and go on your way." And they said, "No; but we will abide in the street all night." 3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed around the house, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called to Lot, and said to him, "Where are the men which came in to you this night? Bring them out to us, that we may know them." 6 And Lot went out at the door to them, and shut the door after him, 7 and said, "I implore you, brethren, do not conduct yourselves so wickedly. 8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known a man; let me, I implore you, bring them out to you, and you do to them as is good in your eyes: Only do nothing to these men; for such shelter they came under the shadow of my roof." 9 And they said, "Stand back." And they said again, "This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will necessarily be a judge: Now we will deal worse with you, than with them." And they pressed intensely upon the man, even Lot, and came near to breaking the door. 10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door. 11 And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: So that they wearied themselves to find the door. 12 And the men said to Lot, "Do you have anyone here beside yourselves? Son-in-law, and your sons, and your daughters, and whatever you have in the city, bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them has waxed great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." 14 And Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, which married his daughters, and said, "Rise up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city." But he seemed as one that mimicks in derision to his sons-in-law. 15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, "Arise, take your wife, and your two daughters, which are here; lest you be consumed in the iniquity of the city." 16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful to him: And they brought him forth, and set him outside the city. 17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, "Escape for your life; do not look behind you, neither stay anywhere in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest you be consumed." 18 And Lot said to them, "Oh, not so, my Lord: 19 Behold now, your servant has found grace in your sight, and you have magnified your mercy, which you have shown to me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one: Oh, let me escape to that place, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said to him, "See, I have accepted you concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for which you have spoken. 22 Make haste, escape to that city; for I cannot do anything until you have come to that place." Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. 23 The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. 24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. 26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. 27 And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: 28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. 29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelled.
