¹³ And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: This sore travail God has given to the sons of man to be exercised by it.

¹⁹ in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground; for out of it you were taken: For dust you are, and to dust you shall return."

² The works of the LORD are great, sought out by all those who have pleasure in them.

² so that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you cry out after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures;

⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: And with all your getting get understanding.

¹ Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeks and intermeddles with all wisdom.

¹⁵ The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

²⁶ My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways.

¹⁷ And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

²³ For all his days are sorrows, and his labor grief; yes, his heart does not take rest in the night. This also is vanity.

²⁶ For God gives to a man who is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: But to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

¹⁰ I have seen the travail, which God has given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

⁴ Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied by his neighbor. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

²⁵ I applied my heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness:

⁹ All this I have seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: There is a time in which one man rules over another to his own hurt.

¹⁶ When I applied my heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done on the earth: (for there is also one that does not see sleep with his eyes neither day nor night): ¹⁷ Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: Because though a man labor to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yes moreover; though a wise man think to know it, yet he shall not be able to find it.

¹² And further, by these, my son, be admonished: Of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

¹⁵ Meditate upon these things; give yourself wholly to them; that your profiting may appear to all.
