⁴¹ And the chief priests in like manner also mocked him, with the scribes and elders, and said, ⁴² He saved others, himself he cannot save. If he is the king of Israel let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe on him; ⁴³ he trusted in God; let him deliver him if he wishes for him; for he said, I am a Son of God.

³⁵ And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed, saying, He saved others; if this is the Christ, the elect of God, let him save himself. ³⁶ And the soldiers also mocked him, and came and presented him vinegar, ³⁷ and said, If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.

²³ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour has come that the Son of man should be glorified. ²⁴ I tell you most truly, that unless the kernel of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it continues alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

¹⁷ For it is better to suffer doing good, if the will of God allows, than doing evil. ¹⁸ For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might lead us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
