²³ But before the faith came, we were kept shut up under the law for the faith to be revealed.

²³ And turning around to his disciples he said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! ²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which you see, and have not seen them, and to hear the things which you hear, and have not heard them.

¹⁹ But we know that whatever the law says, it says to those having the law, that every mouth may be stopped and all the world become guilty before God.

¹⁴ For sin shall not have a Lordship over you; for you are not under the law but under the grace. ^{15 (4:3)} What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under the grace? By no means.

³² For God has concluded all in disobedience that he may have mercy on all.

²⁰ to the Jews I have been as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain those under the law; ²¹ to those without law, as without law, being not without law to God, but with law to Christ, that I might gain those without law;

¹⁹ What then? The law was added on account of transgressions, till the offspring should come to which the promise was made, being appointed by angels by the hand of a mediator.

²⁴ So that the law was our schoolmaster to lead to Christ, that we might be justified by faith; ²⁵ but the faith having come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

^{1 (2:5)} But I say, that as long as the heir is a child, he differs not from a servant, though he is lord of all, ² but is under tutors and stewards till the time appointed by the father. ³ So also we, when we were children, were in servitude under the rudiments of the world; ⁴ but when the fullness of time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, ⁵ that he might redeem those under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
