¹ And he said unto the disciples, 'It is impossible for the stumbling blocks not to come, but woo to him through whom they come;

²³ and he having turned, said to Peter, 'Get you behind me, adversary! You are a stumbling-block to me, for you do not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

⁷ 'Woe to the world from the stumbling-blocks! For there is a necessity for the stumbling-blocks to come, but woo to that man through whom the stumbling-block does come!

¹³ no longer, therefore, may we judge one another, but this judge you rather, not to put a stumbling-stone before the brother, or an offence.

²⁰ for the sake of victuals cast not down the work of God; all things, indeed, are pure, but evil is to the man who is eating through stumbling. ²¹ Right it is not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything in which your brother does stumble, or is made to fall, or is weak.

¹⁷ And I call upon you, brethren, to mark those who the divisions and the stumbling-blocks, contrary to the teaching that you did learn, are causing, and turn you away from them;

¹³ wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh -- to the age -- that my brother I may not cause to stumble.

³² become offenceless, both to Jews and Greeks, and to the assembly of God;

¹⁹ for it behooves sects also to be among you, that those approved may become manifest among you;

¹⁰ and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved, ¹¹ and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie, ¹² that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.

¹⁴ 'But I have against you a few things: That you have there those holding the teaching of Balaam, who did teach Balak to cast a stumbling-block before the sons of Israel, to eat idol-sacrifices, and to commit whoredom;

²⁰ 'But I have against you a few things: That you do allow the woman Jezebel, who is calling herself a prophetess, to teach, and to lead astray, my servants to commit whoredom, and idol-sacrifices to eat;

¹⁴ and it leads astray those dwelling on the land, because of the signs that were given it to do before the beast, saying to those dwelling upon the land to make an image to the beast that has the stroke of the sword and did live, ¹⁵ and there was given to it to give a spirit to the image of the beast, that also the image of the beast may speak, and that it may cause as many as shall not bow before the image of the beast, that they may be killed. ¹⁶ And it makes all, the small, and the great, and the rich, and the poor, and the freemen, and the servants, that it may give to them a mark upon their right hand or upon their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that no one may be able to buy, or to sell, except he who is having the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. ¹⁸ Here is the wisdom! He who is having the understanding, let him count the number of the beast, for the number of a man it is, and its number is 666.
