¹ What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found?

⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

⁸ Bring forth fruit worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones.

²⁴ And he cried out, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things: but now he is comforted, and you are tormented.

²⁹ Abraham said to him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. ³⁰ And he said, No, father Abraham: but if someone went to them from the dead, they will repent. ³¹ And he said to him, If they will not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.

³³ They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how is it that you say, You shall be made free?

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's seed; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. ³⁸ I speak that which I have seen in the presence of my Father: and you do that which you have heard from your father. ³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I have heard from God: this Abraham did not do. ⁴¹ You do the deeds of your father. Then they said to him, We are not illegitimate children; we have one Father, even God.

⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are also dead: whom do you make yourself out to be?

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

²⁶ Brethren, sons of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, to us has been sent the word of this salvation.

¹⁶ Therefore it is by faith, that it might be by grace; so that the promise might be certain to all his descendants; not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

¹ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means. On the contrary, I would not have known sin, but by the law: for I would not have known about coveting unless the law had said, You shall not covet.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

²² Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? so am I.

⁹ Furthermore, we have had earthly fathers who corrected us, and we gave them respect: shall we not much more be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
