²² Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body shall be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

²⁵ Brethren, I would not have you be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own conceits; that a hardening in part has happened to Israel, until the full number of Gentiles has come in.

¹⁹ For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and frustrate the cleverness of the clever. ²⁰ Where is the wise man? where is the scribe? where is the debater of this age? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by its wisdom did not come to know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of our preaching to save those who believe.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks he is wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He catches the wise in their own craftiness.
