9 And do not think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
10 And now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11 I baptize you with water for repentance: but he who comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire.
12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly clean his threshing floor, and gather his wheat into the barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14 But John tried to prevent him, saying, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?
15 And Jesus answered him, Let it be so now: for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he consented.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Luke 3:1-20

2 When Annas and Caiaphas were high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
3 And he went into all the country about the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;
4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth;
6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

14 And the soldiers likewise questioned him, saying, And what shall we do? And he said to them, Do not extort money from anyone or accuse anyone falsely; and be content with your wages.
15 And as the people were expectant, and wondering in their hearts if John was the Christ,
16 John answered, saying to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I comes, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire:

18 And in his exhortation he preached many other things to the people.

John 1:6-8

15 John bore witness to him, and cried out, saying, This was he of whom I spoke, He who comes after me ranks above me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No man has seen God at any time; but God the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.
19 And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who are you?
20 And he confessed, and did not deny; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Are you Elijah? And he said, I am not. Are you the prophet? And he answered, No.
22 Then they said to him, Who are you? that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?
23 He said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as the prophet Isaiah said.
24 Now they had been sent by the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, Why do you baptize then, if you are not the Christ, or Elijah, or the prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but one stands among you, whom you do not know;
27 It is he who comes after me, the thong of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.
28 These things took place in Bethany, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming to him, and said, Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man who ranks above me: for he was before me.
31 And I did not know him: but I came baptizing with water that he might be revealed to Israel.
32 And John bore witness, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained upon him.
33 And I did not know him: but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, He upon whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
34 And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.
35 Again the next day John stood with two of his disciples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God!
John 3:25-36
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and a Jew about purifying.
26 And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you bore witness, behold, he is baptizing, and all men are going to him.
27 John answered, A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given to him from heaven.
28 You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I have been sent before him.
29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He who comes from above is above all: he who is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he who comes from heaven is above all.
32 And what he has seen and heard, to that he testifies; yet no man receives his testimony.
33 He who has received his testimony has set his seal to this, that God is true.
34 For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for God gives the Spirit without measure.
35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.
36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life: but he who disobeys the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God rests upon him.
