² For if the word spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence;

⁵³ You who have received the law as delivered by angels, and have not kept it.

⁵ But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. ⁶ Now these things are examples for us, so we should not lust after evil things, as they lusted. ⁷ Nor be idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. ⁸ Let us not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. ⁹ Nor let us tempt the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents. ¹⁰ Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now all these things happened to them as examples: and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the end of the ages has come. ¹² Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

¹⁹ Then what purpose does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, until the seed should come to whom the promise was made. It was ordained by angels through the hand of a mediator.

¹ God, who spoke in times past to our fathers by the prophets at many times and in various ways,

²⁸ He who despised Moses' law died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses:

³⁵ Therefore, do not cast away your confidence, which has a great reward.

⁶ But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

²⁶ Considering abuse for the sake of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt: for he looked ahead to the reward.

⁵ Now I wish to remind you, though you already know all this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
