¹⁸ For since he himself has suffered in being tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted.

¹ Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. ² And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. ³ And when the tempter came to him, he said, If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. ⁴ But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, ⁶ And said to him, If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning you: and on their hands they shall bear you up, lest at any time you dash your foot against a stone. ⁷ Jesus said to him, Again it is written, You shall not tempt the Lord your God. ⁸ Again, the devil took him to an exceedingly high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; ⁹ And said to him, All these things will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me. ¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, Begone, Satan: for it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very troubled. ³⁸ Then he said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death: remain here, and watch with me. ³⁹ And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.

⁵³ When I was with you daily in the temple, you did not stretch forth hands against me: but this is your hour, when darkness reigns.

²⁹ My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

¹³ No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to endure; but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.

⁷ And lest I should exalt myself beyond measure through the abundance of revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger from Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted beyond measure. ⁸ I begged the Lord thrice, that this might depart from me. ⁹ And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Therefore, most gladly will I boast in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore, for Christ's sake, I take pleasure in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in distresses: for when I am weak, then I am strong.

²¹ Who shall change our lowly body, that it may be fashioned like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself.

¹² And for this reason I also suffer these things: nevertheless, I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him until that day.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our infirmities; but one who in every respect was tempted as we are, yet without sin. ¹⁶ Therefore, let us boldly approach the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

² He can have compassion on the ignorant, and on those who are going astray; for he also is subject to weakness.

⁷ In the days of his flesh, he offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his piety. ⁸ Though he was a Son, yet he learned obedience through the things which he suffered; ⁹ And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation for all those who obey him;

²⁵ Therefore, he is also able to completely save those who come to God through him, for he ever lives to make intercession for them. ²⁶ For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, blameless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens;

⁹ Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust under punishment until the day of judgment:

²⁴ Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless in the presence of his glory with exceedingly great joy,

¹⁰ Because you have kept my word to patiently endure, I will keep you from the hour of trial, which shall come upon all the world, to test those who live upon the earth.
