⁶ Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have asserted our authority, as the apostles of Christ.

⁴¹ I do not receive honour from men.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, when you receive honour from one another, and do not seek the honour that comes from him who alone is God?

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him, he is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

¹ Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are you not my work in the Lord? ² If I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you: for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

⁴ Do we not have the right to eat and to drink? ⁵ Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? ⁶ Or is it only Barnabas and I who do not have the right to refrain from working?

¹² If others share this rightful claim upon you, do we not have a greater claim? Nevertheless, we have not used this right, but endure all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who perform the temple services eat the food of the temple? and those who serve at the altar share what is offered at the altar? ¹⁴ In the same way the Lord ordained that those who preach the gospel should live by the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have used none of these things: nor am I writing these things that it should be done for me: for it would be better for me to die, than for any man to make my boast an empty one. ¹⁶ For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast about: for it is a necessity laid upon me; woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! ¹⁷ If I do this willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a commission has been entrusted to me. ¹⁸ What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may offer the gospel without charge, not taking advantage of my rights in the gospel.

⁹ Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

¹³ For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slave or free; and have all been made to drink of one Spirit. ¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not part of the body; is it therefore not part of the body?

⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord; and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

¹ Now I, Paul, urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who am meek in your presence, but bold when I am absent from you. ² I urge you, that when I am present I may not be bold with the confidence with which I expect to be bold against some, who think that we walk according to the flesh.

¹⁰ For his letters, they say, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. ¹¹ Let such people realize this, that, the way we are in word by letters when we are absent, so we will also be in deeds when we are present.

¹⁰ Therefore I write these things while absent, that when present I need not be severe in using the power which the Lord has given me for building up, and not for tearing down.

¹⁰ Do I now seek the favour of men, or of God? or do I seek to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ.

²⁶ Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.

¹³ For not even those who are circumcised keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our toil and hardship: we laboured night and day, because we did not want to burden any of you as we preached to you the gospel of God.

⁸ For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy which we have before our God because of you;

¹⁷ Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially those who labour in preaching and teaching.

⁸ Therefore, though I could be bold in Christ and order you that which is proper, ⁹ Yet for love's sake I prefer to appeal to you, I, Paul, the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.
